    Thanks DRay!!!! We found an old 300 in trade of my sons 125 dirt bike, I didn’t realize what a great trade we got! You can’t kill 300s! But my teenager sure killed the rear end! Waiting on rebuild parts to get in then will be doing this to ours. I don’t have a hearing press but I have a hydraulic jack so was thinking of welding a frame around it for a make shift press??? Thanks for these videos dude! Saved my life! And 200 bucks lol

    a 3/4 in sockets set work great for pressing stuff in or out with graduated sizes to fit almost any seal or bearing over the 7/8 socket size

    Ever thought about just using grease on the pinon bearing or would the grease not be good for the gear oil?

    When did you install the seal from the driveshaft into rear diff? Just wondering if it needed to be pressed?

    Have you ever packed those bearings before you think that would help with keep water out of these things or do they have a updated bearing kit?

    Hey D-Ray Smith,
    I have a final drive with all the teeth chewed off (PO, this is my first drive powered atv, did not check, because it drove fine, but when i drive it for a bit at home i noticed a grinding noise, opened it up, had like tar and metal shaving in it.)
    I got replacement shims and stuff. Currently I am trying to get the shimming correct on the pinion and drive gear/disk but having massive problems. I can not get the shimming within what the repair manual says. I did get it correct one time, but then the free play between the teeth was not in tolerance.
    How important is it to get the shimming correct on these things? Can i just say F*** it and put the best fit in and use it without worrying about damaging anything? (because you just like throw a shim on it and call it a day)
    Also, how important is that circlip @ 1:11 that goes on that pinion bearing ? My differential did not have it (i assume this dif was taken apart before. I can not find a replacement online. the bearing still stays in there regardless, but i am just curious if its gonna cause problems later.
    I know that was a lot, sorry but your expertise can save me ALOT of work, money and frustration.
    Cheers!

    Do the 2 shims together equal a certain spec like 3mm or 3.25mm or 3.50mm?

  • @mikehaggadone8508

    Help PLEASE!!!
    I ordered the kit. Got it apart and ended up needing a new gear set.
    While awaiting gears the work bench was cleaned by someone else and the spacer shims for ring gear were thrown in trash apparently. There are 20 different options for thickness. Where do you think I should start? In your experience is there a regular OE combination I should order first to start with?

    Just checking no adding any grease from inside?

    Remember the bearing on the end of the opinion could be so bad that it changes the size of the end of the opinion or we get what I’m saying I just ran into this the end of the pinion that goes on the bearing with the circlet has about a quarter of an inch enough in it so I had to buy a new pinion and rain gear

    How do you know what size washer to put between pinion and large bearing that goes on the pinion gear?

  • @MrVjackson4328
    @MrVjackson4328 6 лет назад +1

    How did you get the needle bearing out that the pinion goes into? I saw you installing the new bearing with the pull strap wrapped around it, but I never saw how the old one was removed...

      watch the part two video of the series. He explains it there. ruclips.net/video/oIzjg09WZrE/видео.html
      The only thing I did a little differently was to use a Dremel tool to cut the lock ring in half. Then I took a pick tool and rotated what was left around in the slot and cut it again. I kept doing this until I could pull out with a pair of needle-nose pliers as much of the lock ring as possible. Once the lock ring is gone, or no longer adequately holding the slot, you can punch it out from the rear by drilling the holes he describes in the video.

      When I did mine on My 05 grizzly 660 I used a kit made by tusk its a bearing remover the kits around 70 80 bucks but it had a mandrel with a screw that goes through the middle that spreads open. It made the job a breeze. I believe motion pro makes a kit too its just more cash but basically the same kit. Quality between the two I'm not sure I do not own both

      Final backlash measurement on my 05 grizzly is between 4 to 8 thousandths lash. Best thing too do is get yourself a factory service manual

    So this not really a diff is it?
    It is just a pinion and a ring gear..
    Where are the differential gears?
    This diff doesnt make sense to me.

    • @joeyseabaugh6742
      @joeyseabaugh6742 Год назад

      It isn’t a differential. It is a solid axle machine. Just a gear box with hypoid gears
