I believe I've purchased an 07 TRX 420 SE with a bad one way bearing, starter gear or clutch. Starter spinning strong but doesn't seem to engage the flywheel to turn over the ignition system. Ran strong first couple of days. Decided to clean up the machine to better understand it's condition. Previous owner didn't manage the machine well. 2500 hrs. Everything seems original factory. So I changed the oil and filter. Ran machine maybe another hour and here I am. Would you have any footage on this task. I watched your 4 part vid on the 420 rebuild. Greaful for that find.
Not sure if you addressed this but the outer clutch disk goes on the shallow slot. (First 5 go in the deep slot and the 6th goes on the shallow slot) when you installed them on part 4 you installed them all in one slot.....

I have a 2007 Honda Rancher 420, well taken care of, only 900 miles and 154 hours on it. Road it one week ago and parked it. Ride it regularly to keep it running. Went to start it, and one loud click. Have since replaced the battery, starter solenoid, and starter, same click. Removed the 3-bolt cover on the back of the motor to gain access to the 17mm crank bolt, and removed the spark plug to see if I could turn the crank (maybe feel or here something). Counter clockwise it's fairly easy to turn for 360 degrees. However, clockwise is really tight at TDC. Any ideas as to what I might be running up against. Never been under water, oil is ok, coolant is full. Looked in the cylinder with a bore scope, nothing obvious. Since it's over 10 years old the Houston Honda dealers don't want to work on it.
I know that the 420 and the earlier model 450 are different engine, but are the components inside the crankcase somewhat similar? Great reference video by the way.
Does the disassembly for the shift shaft apply the same for the ES models? Ive got an 07 ES where the splines are worn down to the front shift motor area and need to replace the shaft.

Question, after I rebuilt my Honda Rancher 350 crankshaft engine, it would not go into neutral and therfore could not get it to turn over. I have torn the engine down, cleaned and rebuilt it 3 times and the same thing happens every time. Any idea what I could be missing??

Anybody know really good place to buy a whole brand new manual transmition for a 08 rancher. My shifting forks broke and wiped out 4th and 5th gear and some other stuff
Question, I was trying to change my switch assembly sensor in the back, somehow the shift shaft pulled out some through the back and now it does not want to go back in. Does that mean that I have to take the front cover off now and make sure it did not come off completely and through out the other side?

I have a 2015 420 auto/es that shuts off when put into gear have any idea like the clutch stays engaged
What were the issues, how would I know it was time to replace a crank shaft?

+NewtDons SHS Powersports is my go to place for new parts, but you can find used cases on eBay almost all the time.
if you just take off the cylinder do you have to worry about timing
Whatever you do to take it off you have to put it back the same way. Just mark everything with a Sharpie. All yr timing marks

I'm about to start rebuilding a 680 Rincon 2010 is it the same case do you rebuild it the same way ?

Not a dumb question. Everything pretty much the same. Flywheel different but the rest is pretty much same

That definitely sounds like you maybe threw a rod or you're timing chain is stretched to hell.
