      It is normally used for the British classic 'bangers and mash' as below or with steak/minced beef pie and mash.

    This gravy looks great, I wish I could have a taste or at least smell it. I'm a bloke who enjoys cooking so I enjoyed watching this: no extraneous BS glorifying yourself, just simple and straight to the point. I've got some snags in the fridge: when I cook them with mashed potatoes and pees you can guess what kind off sauce will accompany them. Champion!

    Good recipe. I nearly got unreasonably angry when you added the oil and shouted inside my head- where is the butter? But you saved the day. Nearly the same as my method but I add a bit of red wine, no sugar and caramelise the onions for half an hour to an hour.
    The only reason I add the red wine is so I can drink a glass while I stir the onions. We have either one glass or two glass onion gravy in our house.

    • @BackyardChef
      @BackyardChef  2 года назад

      Sounds like a great plan Oliver - Red wine here in Thailand is expensive for a decent one - there are some very cheap (Balsamic vinegar tasting) ones. I'm glad you make a good gravy - there is nothing better than a real gravy complimenting your meal. best, Rik

    The sign that the celebrity chef era began was every recipe saying to "caramelize" things instead of "browning" them. 🙄 Anyway, this looks easy and good for so many things.

    I'm shocked with how he does this.
    Don't use a wok. Use a deep dish frying pan that has a lid. So you trap the moisture. Don't add sugar or pepper. Just add some regular oil with the butter and keep an eye on it all. Then stir it so the onions cook evenly.
