I guess because it seems that it design more for video and I was also looking for a reason to give my wife to buy a new camera for my Canon lenses from when I jumped ship to Nikon
Thank you SO much for making a simple video going through all the menu options. I can't tell you how many I watched that had random unnecessary B-roll, and how many didn't explain how to actually get to the menu option and how to change it. You're the best!
This was a lifesaver. Just bought an M50 last week and was fumbling around with some of the settings. I had resigned myself to having to read through the manual tonight. Fortunately your video allowed me to continue my streak of never having read a user manual ever. Thumbs up!
Watched this twice now and it's really helped. So thank you for doing this. I am an older guy in the UK and have downsized to the M50, from a 70D due to starting to have issues with the weight you get with a DSLR. Great job, you are a star! Tim
This is my first camera ever. I've had it for months, taking it with me but barely using it because I don't know how. In half an hour this video taught me everything. You are a god send.
Thank youuu!! This was very helpful! I just bought my M50 and it's my first "real" camera ever, so I'm just learning and this video helped me a lot to get started. :)
Fantastic and thorough explanation for the M50. I have had the camera for over a year. I learned more in this video than everything I did in the past year. Thank you so very much. Great and understandable video. I loved it.
Thx for the very informative video, Jared! I wanted to let you know, though, that you CAN use the shutter button for video start/stop if you have your top dial set to video mode. There's an additional option under "button fnc" that wasn't visible in Auto Mode. I was so happy to find this out that I thought I'd let others know about it. Thanks for the hard work on your video here, it helped me a lot.
The absolute best tutorial! I just received my M50 as a gift (first time using a real camera) I've always used my phone. I was completely clueless and most videos just rushed through the set up which was not useful. This helped me so much Jared! Thank you so much!!
Hey Jared, Your tutorial is just what I needed for better understanding of my brand new M50. The manual that comes with the camera sucks, plus I needed a magnifying glass to read it. Thanks for excellent Info.
These are Gold, When I bought my first camera I came here. An I just bought my second and I'm back again, Thanks brother keep the vids coming. From The Bahamas 🇧🇸
That was pretty good. I think that you should have also mentioned/shown the following: 1. Done a run through setting up the 'phone app.. 2. It would be good for people to know that, instead of the 'phone app, there is a remote that can do most of what the app does - the BR-E1. 3. Showing how the Focus Peaking works would have taken a couple of seconds, so I would vote for that to be included if this phone is updated, and you review the update. 4. Cannot remember if you mentioned that the slow-motion (780p) mode is silent, but it is. 5. And the M50's stabilization is terrible, both 'regular' and digital (I love the camera, though). 6. Plugging a mic. in to the jack on the camera body can obscure part of the flip-screen (if turned toward the person in front of the camera), because of the positioning of the mic. jack. 7. You missed mentioning and showing audio levels, and that the audio levels are (stupidly) not visible on the flip screen when it is turned toward the person in front of the camera. Combined with the fact that there is no headphone socket, this means that the only way to monitor audio levels is when the screen is folded onto the back of the camera and is being looked at by someone behind the camera. 8. Has a timelapse function. 9. The RAW format is a special 'compressed' RAW (C-RAW). 10. In addition to the very few M-mount lenses, if used with an adapter (and the Meike is much cheaper and works exactly the same as Canon's own adapter), lenses from the following Canon series can be used EF, EF-M, E-FS, as well as quite a few third-party lenses.
Just a quick reply to your #9 comment. The camera offers you the choice of traditional RAW or C-RAW. So you're partially correct. If for some reason you prefer saving larger RAW files on your SD card, you can choose to do so. By the way, there's a good analysis of the new C-RAW format here, for those who are interested... www.the-digital-picture.com/Canon-Cameras/Canon-C-RAW-Image-File-Format.aspx

Now I am thinking it might be replacement. Biggest headaches of the weekend, short battery life and bouncing the lens adapter between my 50mm f1.8 and 85mm f1.8. 16:51 good to know, that if shooting in RAW and in monochrome that the image when imported into the computer will still have the color data, but if shooting in JPEG and monochrome the image when imported into the computer will be black n white no color data. 17:53 I agree to have touch shutter off. 18:10 super cool this camera has touch n drag AF.
Try to find Custom Functions: "Enable shutter without lens" Damn that was burried in there. Under the wrench, then 5, then 3, then scroll through that even. Had to enable that so I could use a manual focus lens that I purchased for my M50.
"There's no Netflix on this camera, although that's a good idea for the future". Ha! I happen to agree with you Jared even though you were being facetious. Wait, were you? LOL

Yes you can turn off the automatic Display setting. Here is how you do it: 1. Hit the menu button. **Note** Make sure you are in Standard mode, not Guided Mode. 2. Head to the yellow wrench icon menu and scroll over to page number 4. 3. Tab down to "Display Settings" 4.Change the "Display Control" from "Auto" to "Manual" That's it! Now it the screen won't turn off anymore anytime you accidentally move in front of the EV! :)
Just got this camera and this is the best video explaining everything about this! You rock dude and from a guy with big hair to another...it rocks! \m/
Thank you SO MUCH!! I went through 20 or so different vids before I found yours. They all rushed through things assuming that I knew what they were talking about!! Your video was SO HELPFUL!
The canon EOS M50 is in a special niche, it's a vlogging camera. I don't know, tired of those niches with Canon, one camera does this, one camera does that, but another camera can't do that because the functions exist but they are crippled or limited. I think the price might attract some people, the ones that are still with canon and could not find a lightweight camera to do the same thing that Sony's cameras I guess. I would personally not buy this camera for photography, but more for videos. How is that bitrate compared to the 80D? It seems better IMO. There are many reasons to buy this camera and many other reasons for not buying it ugh. And it's pretty cheap compared to other cameras. Dang it i am going to buy it.
I bought one. It's too bad that the microphone output is on the left side of the flipscreen, because you can't turn the flipscreen 180 degrees; Canon should have put the mic port on the right, but i guess they wanted to save money on the design, since all their motherboards are designed to go on the left. So it's not a problem with the 80D it's high enough to put a mic cable but for the M50 that can be a big issue for audio amateurs.
Steven Rix yea that sucks.. luckily for me i barely do video mostly pics. How are the photos compared to your last camera & have you tried the 4k still photo capture yet
This is easily in the top ten best videos in the wide world of interwebs! Thanks! I just bought one of these, and was pretty intimidated to take it out of the Auto setting.
Thanks for taking to time to go over each menu item. You saved me tons of time. I'm a recently retired commercial photographer and just got the M50. I really love this camera. I was so pleased with your clip I decided to subscribe. Keep up the good work.
Thank you Jared. I was not enjoying using my new M50 camera but watching and this set up video and taking pictures now has the bomb. I would recommend this video for beginners.
You’re forgetting to mention that “switch” on the battery cover, is not actually a switch. It’s another door for a cord you put in the camera if you want to connect your camera to the mains power. Try pulling that rubber bit open, then you’ll know what I’m talking about. It on nearly every canon camera, not just the m50.
Stefan - TravelFlow Stefan, I can’t tell you how many ‘reviews’ I’ve read that said it didn’t have that facility, I didn’t understand how you could get a cable into the battery compartment to power the camera and have the door closed so as to access the screw mount for tripod/gimbal. Top man. Thanks a million
Oh, wow, oh wow, since I usually film my tutorials at home you have opened my sky of posibilites, thank you so much, Stefan. But how can you switch anything through that hole and what kind of plug does it need to be? Can you please help or give a link , I would love to know

Got my M50 around the time this video hit and found it extremely helpful. I still refer to it on occasion as I become more familiar with using the camera. Excellent video. Thanks Jared.
I just bought the M50, felt this was a good beginner camera. Your video definitely clarified the functions of the camera, most things I knew from playing around with it but there were a few things I had no idea about until I watched this. All in all, good job :) thank you for the assistance.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! This videos was so helpful not only was it educational but it was enjoyable to watch. Thank you for being so enthusiastic and fun!
This helped a bit. I just got the camera and this is so much better than reading the manual. I would've still been reading it without. Good understanding of what I'm doing. I've also watched a few tutorials bit none of them explained every function like you have. I knows unlikely that you'll read this but I just wanna say thanks for making the video. I'm a brand new cannon m50 owner just looking for better understanding of the product and this video, while long, did it for me.
thanks bro. I really needed this. I am taking a photo course and used the canon EOS 6D which is better (in my eyes) than the M50 because its a full frame camera. Now that I am done with the course, I am back to my M50 trying to maximize its potential. Thanks for the guidance.
Just bought an M50 earlier today. Was screwing around with settings but felt a little lost. The run through in this video was very helpful. It all feels familiar now. Great little camera.
I was having trouble fixing somethings my daughter messed around with :/ I came across many videos NOT like yours amazing at what you teach and really know how to work with you’re settings ❤️ great job !!!
I just got an m50. For the VF Settings, I use "display 2", which shrinks it down a bit, because then I can easily see the whole viewfinder image while wearing my glasses.
Thank you for this video. I just bought an M50 and I'm a total beginner. I had no idea about locking the lens (I'm using the kit lens) each time when turning the camera off and storing it!

I’m waiting to be disappointed with their FF mirrorless.
Best video on how to setup Canon EOS m50. It was soo helpful I watched it multiple times. Thank you very much.
I will file the manual just in case but that was definitely a better instructional guide. Cheers mate.
I review some of your videos every once in a while. I really enjoy your work. A lot of time and work. Thank you. Good luck on the new place.
I have bought this camera just a day before!! Really helpful!
And i just love ur hair😀😀
Love from India!🙏🙏
A newbie here. Thank you for speaking clearly and taking your time. It's much appreciated.
Man your videos save me so much work for not reading the awful manual. A big thanks :)
Jared thank you so much. That's all I can say. You're the best Manual out there.
Another stellar video...great to hear insight from a real photographer and not a Vlogger. Keep it up!!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! This videos was so helpful not only was it educational but it was enjoyable to watch. Thank you for being so enthusiastic and fun!
You are a legend mate, just bought this camera I guess i will visit your channel often
Just picked up my M50 yesterday and this video has been super informative. Thank you for making it.
Thanks so much!! As a newbie, your video is most helpful, informative & entertaining.Viewed several times and took notes.
I was having trouble fixing somethings my daughter messed around with :/ I came across many videos NOT like yours amazing at what you teach and really know how to work with you’re settings ❤️ great job !!!
Awesome!... My new M50 will show up at my door tomorrow and I already know how to operate the functions. Thank you!!! it was so good!
Just picked up this camera yesterday. Planning to use it for some video, I appreciate the rundown. Mega helpful. Click, Click, BOOM!
A bundle of thanx for ur time that u took to record this video to help peoples like me bless u always ♥️
Just got mine as a gift. Your video was super helpful. Thanks, Jared!
same!
Best M50 tutorial on the web. Thanks Jared!
I just got an m50. For the VF Settings, I use "display 2", which shrinks it down a bit, because then I can easily see the whole viewfinder image while wearing my glasses.
Super helpful and way better than reading the manual - thanks!
Thanks for doing this so efficiently and respecting my time. My grandson loved your Oscar the Grouch trash button analogy.
Thank you for this video. I just bought an M50 and I'm a total beginner. I had no idea about locking the lens (I'm using the kit lens) each time when turning the camera off and storing it!
Great video! I have been shooting with the M50 for 2 weeks and it has been working great!
Awesome video!!! So much easier to figure the ins and outs of the camera from this video rather than dulling over the manual.
I bought this camera yesterday and this video helped a lot.
You have no idea how much you helped me.Think was so informative and straight forward. You definately gained a new subscriber.Thank you so much.
Have had Amy camera for a few months, was using it great no problems with the camera, leant a lot from this Video, thank you for helping me out, more then useful for me
I just got my Canon EOS M50 and as a complete beginner in cameras this helped me a lot. Thank you Jared. , really appreciate the tutorial 🙂🙏
Brilliant tour of the camera. That probably saved me hours of online reading and trawling through the manual.
Hi Jared! It's February 2021 and this video was so helpful for me! I'm starting a channel and I bought this camera with the Sigma 16mm lens to use for blogging but had no idea how to use it. Thank you for this great information!
