      Just curious, did your camera come with instructions? Because mine didn't. I know I can download it online, but I kind of expected a printed manual to be included with a 1700 $ camera... guess not 🙄

    I just got one and this is exactly what i needed. Thanks. Camera doesn't come with a manual. Found it online and it's 528 pages of dense copy. It's nuts how manufacturers rely on people like you to do this these days 😎. Super helpful, keep it up.

Was it hard to get the hang of? Do you think you should’ve started off with a “more simple” and less advanced camera? (Asking everyone above^^)

    This is unbelievably helpful, and I'm incredibly grateful for your taking the time to do this. For 30 years I've been shooting with film or with a camcorder form-factor so when I picked up this little Sony sweetheart I was overwhelmed by the myriad of new options. This is exactly what I needed. You rock.

      @@Jason_Hermann Your video is over an hour long. Most others intros are 20-25 minutes. That's because you say an extra sentence or two about each item. You give some context and meaning rather than merely identifying what's what. That's why your's are so useful.
      Question for you: S-Log is a new thing for me. It looks like you're also a FCP user. Do you have anything in your videos about how to treat S-Log footage in Final Cut?
      Thanks so much.

      @@MitchellRoseFilms Hey there, and I do have a video talking about S-Log2 ruclips.net/video/jnn82Fhc4Do/видео.html , but not Slog 3 which is what this camera is capable of and what I would recommend using... However, my buddy Josh made a really good tutorial video on S-Log3 which I recommend checking out here: ruclips.net/video/Z4Ic19eP36Y/видео.html

      Hi again. I got this camera for a new project I'm working on which has very kinetic camera operating. I had read that the stabilization was first rate. I have to say I'm very disappointed in the stabilization. I just got an iPhone 15 Pro and the stabilization is far superior. Even just walking in a circle around the subject, the a6700 looks like it doesn't even have stabilization turned on. And Active is to overreactive - for this piece, when I move the camera quickly it overcompensates. Very disappointed and I'm probably going to shoot this film on the iPhone.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  Год назад +2

      The stabilization is relative to the size of the sensor, so yes the iPhone has way better "effective" stabilization. You need a gimbal for a real camera like this to get butter smooth footage. @@MitchellRoseFilms I have this one: ruclips.net/video/X0ELPTehTxk/видео.html

    By far the best tutorial I have come across in the 25+ videos I have gone through in the past week since I bought my camera. Other videos gloss over the mechanics of navigating through a complex web of cascading menus and focus on the purpose and impact of various camera settings. For me, menu navigation was the biggest stumbling block. By offering a set of prescriptive suggestions for different situations, this video also provides a great starting point. Then it point out the impact of individual options to experiment with. Just what I was looking for.

    I’m bet there’s thousands of people like me out there that want to use a good camera, buy one, but just get overwhelmed by the options and (seemingly) complicated process of setting apertures and shutter speeds and ISOs and, on top of that, six million options in the menus! “Can it really be this complicated to take a photo!?”
    Absolutely super video. Appreciate there’ll always be a certain degree of trial and error for the new user but this video is pitched perfectly for new users like me. I’ve been looking at the RX10 iv but the chap in the shop upsold me to this camera saying “you’d be getting a way better camera for not much more money” with the sigma lens. It weighs loads less and I feel much less intimidated by it so looking forward to getting out and about and shooting!
    Thanks so much for this video it’s awesome and I’m sure I’ll be watching it a few times as I get to grips with my new toy!

      Thanks for the very kind words and congratulations on the new awesome camera! The fact that you can put any lens on the A6700 and the sensor is larger, does make it a lot more powerful than the R10 IV for sure! I have a few other videos on the A6700, so be sure to check those out as well! Links in the video description area...

    On my 3rd view of this amazing video I finally began to soak it in! Also on the 3rd viewing I finally recognized your reference to turn the aperture ring to the A on the lens for it to work Auto with the a6700. So I appreciate your answering that question for me on your Yongnuo video even though I should have seen it here before (a testament to your extreme patience). Bottom line, thanks to you, the a6700 is no longer intimidating. Thank you for all the effort you put into this video❗

    This camera is the A7R5 of the aps-c lineup of cameras. Been setting up the camera to shoot bees in action on my shrub. Took a while, made a number of errors, more like not paying attention to my settings. Now this beast locks on bees and tracks them as they dart around. Getting lots of great sharp hits. Surprisingly the lens I am using for this task is the 90mm 2.8 macro lens. Not only is it fast in focusing, but it is also razor sharp. It makes the a6700 sensor shine even more. I think as people get used to the tiny body, they will appreciate not having to lug a heavy FF body around. It is so small that people will not notice it, allowing you to take pictures with no one noticing.

    Excellent overview, Jason. Many thanks. I am trying to fathom S&Q! For example, what are the settings to shoot 5 seconds of video every minute for 4 hours, and in what menu would I input this information? What quality settings would you suggest? Are there any videos you would recommend? Thanks again.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  3 месяца назад

      S&Q is specifically for slow and quick motion within the frame rates and record settings the camera offers. So you can record in a 60p frame rate for example with an interval of 1 second yielding you a 5 second movie over the course of a 5 minute total record time. For what you want to do Interval Shooting would be a better option do to the time compression you are looking for, but you will need to make the movie with the photos after the fact. See here: helpguide.sony.net/ilc/2320/v1/en/contents/0407P_interval_shoot_setting.html

    Jason, love the channel! Question, if you could have either (but only 1, not both) would you go with the Sony rx10iv or the A6700/sony 70-350mm/Sigma 17-50mm combo?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  7 месяцев назад

      Thank you and easily the A6700 and lenses.... You can always buy, barrow, or rent more lenses if you ever wanted to get into portraits or macro for example and get a few killer prime lenses, go manual lenses f/1.4 and stuff like that. The RX10 IV is an incredible all-in-one camera and I would really enjoy having one for my daughters softball games and/or maybe for a vacation/ travel situation for the pure convenience and versatility. Carrying the extra weight is a burden depending on what you are up to, but when push comes to shove I usually want the better quality and the power the mirrorless camera provides with limitless lens options. In addition the A6700 has a way better battery 👍

    Thanks for this video! Very helpful. Can you take photos without a lens? It's showing a grey screen without it. Working well with the lens attached though.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  6 месяцев назад

      Hello and yeah a lens is required. The camera will take photos without a lens, but that is because a lot of adapters and manual focus lenses have no electronics in them, so technically the camera does not know if a lens is attached in those cases. Most modern lenses have electronics these days though.

    Wow Jason, your videos are Excellent! Such detail and so well explained. Great pace and demonstrations. I first saw your video on the Sony RX10 and now switching to a6700 + Sigma 18-50 f2.8 & Sony 70-350G. Your guidance helps a lot. Also your a6700 Review was awesome. Just wonder does a6700 IBIS work with Sigma 18-50 (with no Stabilisation). Thank You.

      Awesome, thank you for the kind words and yes the IBIS definitely works with the Sigma and Active stabilization should also work if you need a little extra digital stabilization as well.

    Hi again Jason, Thank you for such a quality explanation of a6700. Superb detail on 'Set up' menu. Can you tell me how to cancel Tracking/ /Auto Tracking? When I touch the screen to change 'Drive mode' - tracking flickers around the screen and Drive mode doesn't open. Ha, it'll be something simple, still getting used to the camera. Thanks again for your inspiring videos. Colin.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  9 месяцев назад +1

      Hello Colin, the circle center button inside the rear control wheel will cancel tracking. Often it's easier to go thru the Fn menu than trying to touch the screen for settings I find as well Colin as it does what your describing if you don't touch it perfectly. All the best, Jay

      Hi Jay, thank you. That's great, using Fn menu rather than trying to hit the icon accurately on screen. For sure the Menu is quite intuitive when you get used to it. I'll also make use of Custom buttons and My Menu for easy access. My daughter's half Marathon this Weekend, a good time to use the a6700:)! Thanks again. Colin.

    Excellent video. Just one question (re: 37:25): How do you set the camera *back* to subject tracking mode once you've tapped a spot on the screen and "cancel tracking"? TIA.

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  9 месяцев назад +1

      Thank you and all you have to do is re-touch the screen on what you want to track and it will re-enable it. You must be in tracking mode though and not touch to focus mode, which is different than tracking.

    • @therealmitch-a-palooza7262

      @@Jason_Hermann Thanks man! I tried doing it that way a bunch of times in animal recognition mode on my cat, but the "tracking cancelled" message remains. The only way I can tell on how to get it out of "tracking cancelled" mode is to turn the camera on and off. I must be doing something wrong???

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  9 месяцев назад

      Interesting... What exactly do you have set for your focus mode, focus area, camera mode, video or photo, etc... Worst case you can try reseting the camera back to factory default.

    Excellent Jay, as usual! One question, I got a the 16-50 kit lens basically to learn the camera and hope to eventually get the excellent 16-55 2.8 G lens. What is your opinion of that kit lens for beginners with the 6700?

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  5 месяцев назад

      I actually like the kit lens for the most part, but the slower variable max aperture is a bit of a bummer once you use better lenses. With that being said it's sharp, has a decent range, very cheap, and is ultra compact, so for the money it's a nice kit lens. You have a lot of options these days for sure and you might want to consider some of the very affordable prime lenses that are out these days... You can see some of those in this video here: ruclips.net/video/ish37aDJwX8/видео.html

    What does the default middle button of the wheel do in video mode? thank you so much!

    • @Jason_Hermann
      @Jason_Hermann  6 месяцев назад +1

      Good question as the manual does not say for some reason. By default it appears to be the standard focus button meaning it will just enable the center area focus as an over ride when pressed... That is how it is working on my camera anyway 👍
