Just paid for a class on this camera yesterday and came across your video today. Learned so much more from your video than what I learned yesterday. Thank you for putting this together.
Just curious, did your camera come with instructions? Because mine didn't. I know I can download it online, but I kind of expected a printed manual to be included with a 1700 $ camera... guess not 🙄
I just got one and this is exactly what i needed. Thanks. Camera doesn't come with a manual. Found it online and it's 528 pages of dense copy. It's nuts how manufacturers rely on people like you to do this these days 😎. Super helpful, keep it up.
Hey guys! This is also my first camera and it just came in today! Very excited to master this damn thing. How has the experience been for you guys so far being that you are all also beginners?? Was it hard to get the hang of? Do you think you should’ve started off with a “more simple” and less advanced camera? (Asking everyone above^^)
This is unbelievably helpful, and I'm incredibly grateful for your taking the time to do this. For 30 years I've been shooting with film or with a camcorder form-factor so when I picked up this little Sony sweetheart I was overwhelmed by the myriad of new options. This is exactly what I needed. You rock.
@@Jason_Hermann Your video is over an hour long. Most others intros are 20-25 minutes. That's because you say an extra sentence or two about each item. You give some context and meaning rather than merely identifying what's what. That's why your's are so useful. Question for you: S-Log is a new thing for me. It looks like you're also a FCP user. Do you have anything in your videos about how to treat S-Log footage in Final Cut? Thanks so much.
@@MitchellRoseFilms Hey there, and I do have a video talking about S-Log2 ruclips.net/video/jnn82Fhc4Do/видео.html , but not Slog 3 which is what this camera is capable of and what I would recommend using... However, my buddy Josh made a really good tutorial video on S-Log3 which I recommend checking out here: ruclips.net/video/Z4Ic19eP36Y/видео.html
Hi again. I got this camera for a new project I'm working on which has very kinetic camera operating. I had read that the stabilization was first rate. I have to say I'm very disappointed in the stabilization. I just got an iPhone 15 Pro and the stabilization is far superior. Even just walking in a circle around the subject, the a6700 looks like it doesn't even have stabilization turned on. And Active is to overreactive - for this piece, when I move the camera quickly it overcompensates. Very disappointed and I'm probably going to shoot this film on the iPhone.
The stabilization is relative to the size of the sensor, so yes the iPhone has way better "effective" stabilization. You need a gimbal for a real camera like this to get butter smooth footage. @@MitchellRoseFilms I have this one: ruclips.net/video/X0ELPTehTxk/видео.html
8 years with my A6300 and I was happy. However I now have the A6700 and I am blown away with all great advances. Your "Beginners" guide was so helpful. Thank you for the excellent overview. My challenge is if I can remember more than two of the features. 🥴
I’m bet there’s thousands of people like me out there that want to use a good camera, buy one, but just get overwhelmed by the options and (seemingly) complicated process of setting apertures and shutter speeds and ISOs and, on top of that, six million options in the menus! “Can it really be this complicated to take a photo!?” Absolutely super video. Appreciate there’ll always be a certain degree of trial and error for the new user but this video is pitched perfectly for new users like me. I’ve been looking at the RX10 iv but the chap in the shop upsold me to this camera saying “you’d be getting a way better camera for not much more money” with the sigma lens. It weighs loads less and I feel much less intimidated by it so looking forward to getting out and about and shooting! Thanks so much for this video it’s awesome and I’m sure I’ll be watching it a few times as I get to grips with my new toy!
Thanks for the very kind words and congratulations on the new awesome camera! The fact that you can put any lens on the A6700 and the sensor is larger, does make it a lot more powerful than the R10 IV for sure! I have a few other videos on the A6700, so be sure to check those out as well! Links in the video description area...
By far the best tutorial I have come across in the 25+ videos I have gone through in the past week since I bought my camera. Other videos gloss over the mechanics of navigating through a complex web of cascading menus and focus on the purpose and impact of various camera settings. For me, menu navigation was the biggest stumbling block. By offering a set of prescriptive suggestions for different situations, this video also provides a great starting point. Then it point out the impact of individual options to experiment with. Just what I was looking for.
Finally a proper how to use guide for beginners with clear and precise information. It is very hard to find a video like this. I've seen some others and they all tell you how you should set up your camera based on what they think it's best. So thank you for not going down that same path.

The true beginner guide video. Very simple for easy to understand, clean tutorial, very organize, very informative and effective step by step technique. My respect to you Sir Jason!! Thank you for this video guide.
My first camera was a RX100 and your video for that taught me everything I needed to know about it. Now I just bought the a6700 and still learning a lot from you and your tutorials. Love your work man. Great job 👏🏾
This is THE Video you need to watch if you are new to Sony Alpha 6x00 or specifically 6700 . Even after 1.08 hours, there is so much more that this camera offers were my thoughts. However, this video is apt for me to get started ! Great job there!
This camera is the A7R5 of the aps-c lineup of cameras. Been setting up the camera to shoot bees in action on my shrub. Took a while, made a number of errors, more like not paying attention to my settings. Now this beast locks on bees and tracks them as they dart around. Getting lots of great sharp hits. Surprisingly the lens I am using for this task is the 90mm 2.8 macro lens. Not only is it fast in focusing, but it is also razor sharp. It makes the a6700 sensor shine even more. I think as people get used to the tiny body, they will appreciate not having to lug a heavy FF body around. It is so small that people will not notice it, allowing you to take pictures with no one noticing.
Jay, I purchased my a6700 today and it will be delivered on Sunday. I shot film for manny years, but it has been 20 years sine then so it will be like my first camera. I found your video today and the information is excellent. I will be using this to set up my new camera when it arrives. Thank you!!

I bought one today at a photography show as a 16-50 kit, to replace an ageing Lumix. It doesn't come with a charger, or even a charging cable! And as you'd expect, no memory card (but I sweet talked them into including one). You do get a neck strap, and printed manual.
Bought this camera with a nice starker kit yesterday. As someone new to photo (and my interest: videography) all the options are quite overwhelming. Thank you for taking the time to record this. You explain it all really well, in a nice pace and easy to follow (with some retries ;)). Already feel comfortable handling the different options. Looking forward to advancing to shooting in LOG so I can nicely combine the Sony footage with my drone's footage. You have yourself a new follower!
This was awesome!! Just ordered mine and I can't wait for it to arrive. My first "real" camera also. Thank you so much for taking the time to make this.
My first camera. Absolutely amazing video to get me started. Very thorough. Exactly what I was looking for. Followed you as you went with mine in my hands.
Jason. Amazing video and so nicely explained. I am planning to buy the A6700 and mostly probably the 15mm f1.4 for talking head videos. Upgrading from shooting with my DJI osmo pocket 3 and Samsung S24 Ultra. Once again thank you for the amazing video. Keep it up.

Wow, thank you so much for taking the time to film this video. You explained everything in detail, which is exactly what I needed. Amazing video!! Thank you again
One question I have that I couldnt find in your excellent video is using sRGB vs RGB color space setting. What is your recommendation? Thank you in advance.
Fantastic video, very informative. I've permanently added this to my Bookmarks Bar, because I KNOW i'll be referring to this again and again. Thank you!

battery on charge but just got the sony a6700,,,, took few shots in my living room low light .. no card yet ..wow .. its a killer..put the sony 70 350 on full zoom wide open 50 sec auto iso..the zip on my suit case looks nearly macro ...
Jason, love the channel! Question, if you could have either (but only 1, not both) would you go with the Sony rx10iv or the A6700/sony 70-350mm/Sigma 17-50mm combo?
Thank you and easily the A6700 and lenses.... You can always buy, barrow, or rent more lenses if you ever wanted to get into portraits or macro for example and get a few killer prime lenses, go manual lenses f/1.4 and stuff like that. The RX10 IV is an incredible all-in-one camera and I would really enjoy having one for my daughters softball games and/or maybe for a vacation/ travel situation for the pure convenience and versatility. Carrying the extra weight is a burden depending on what you are up to, but when push comes to shove I usually want the better quality and the power the mirrorless camera provides with limitless lens options. In addition the A6700 has a way better battery 👍
I am going to be buying this camera and i thoroughly enjoyed what you did here. You have such a great way of explaining features by giving context to them. I think you really have a great talent. I'm subscribed and will watch some of your other videos as well.
thank you for sharing your knowledge and insight in such a simple and beginner friendly way. its intimidating jumping into this space and you have made it alot easier - THANK YOU.
Jason you literally gave a full detailed tutorial on how to operate the A6700 whilst also teaching us the basics of a camera or take photographs. That's a crazy good video right here 💯💯
Got the a6700, overheating in 4K on one shoot, returned immediately. Loving the fx30. Don’t waste your time with this camera unless you just want to take pictures. It’s a heating brick with not a single vent.
A couple of things the a6700 has the FX-30 doesn't is the EVF, very useful for photography and a mechanical shutter. RUclipsrs have made it clear that the a6700 is good for short bursts of 4K. It's the camera to take with you on outings, grabbing photos and short videos, not the FX-30, which is larger and heavier than the a6700. Both have their primary function. Wish you knew this before buying the hybrid vs video centric camera.
What a brilliant video. I will favorite this because I will need it in a couple of weeks. I currently have a6400 but upgrading to a6700. Lot of similarities between these 2 models but also lot of new features on the a6700 that I will be excited to try out. The new menu layout seems great! Can't wait.
This is a great video, thank you so much! I just purchased the A6700 and this has been most helpful. I have learned so much from you already. I have book marked this video to refer to again.
This was a very helpful video! I really like how you explain things and also remind on important details here and there to ensure it's understood. I have some idea how to take pictures in M mode, but I'm for sure no expert or even close. This video was very good to follow (I'm not a native speaker, but no issue), since I had some idea what you refer too, but not that much.
You just earned a Sub... Thank you. I just got mine today, and I am watching this video to get to know my new camera. (even though I have used mirror less cams for quite some time). Awesome work... Thank you
Wow Jason, your videos are Excellent! Such detail and so well explained. Great pace and demonstrations. I first saw your video on the Sony RX10 and now switching to a6700 + Sigma 18-50 f2.8 & Sony 70-350G. Your guidance helps a lot. Also your a6700 Review was awesome. Just wonder does a6700 IBIS work with Sigma 18-50 (with no Stabilisation). Thank You.
Awesome, thank you for the kind words and yes the IBIS definitely works with the Sigma and Active stabilization should also work if you need a little extra digital stabilization as well.
excellent video. I may have bit off a bit more than I could chew with purchasing this camera so i appreciate your indepth review. Do you have a video on updating the firmware? I see my firmware needs to be updated.

You're very welcome!
I will take it ❤ thank you for the guide 😊
You're welcome 😊
Jason you literally gave a full detailed tutorial on how to operate the A6700 whilst also teaching us the basics of a camera or take photographs. That's a crazy good video right here 💯💯
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you, this is incredibly useful
You're very welcome!
Got the a6700, overheating in 4K on one shoot, returned immediately. Loving the fx30.
Don’t waste your time with this camera unless you just want to take pictures. It’s a heating brick with not a single vent.
Yeah, the FX30 is the APS-C camera to get for long form video recording 100%
A couple of things the a6700 has the FX-30 doesn't is the EVF, very useful for photography and a mechanical shutter. RUclipsrs have made it clear that the a6700 is good for short bursts of 4K. It's the camera to take with you on outings, grabbing photos and short videos, not the FX-30, which is larger and heavier than the a6700. Both have their primary function. Wish you knew this before buying the hybrid vs video centric camera.
Perfekt Tutorial! Thank you very much, Sir. Greetings from Husum, Germany.
I appreciate the kind words , thank you :)
What a brilliant video. I will favorite this because I will need it in a couple of weeks. I currently have a6400 but upgrading to a6700. Lot of similarities between these 2 models but also lot of new features on the a6700 that I will be excited to try out. The new menu layout seems great! Can't wait.
So helpful
This is a great video, thank you so much! I just purchased the A6700 and this has been most helpful. I have learned so much from you already. I have book marked this video to refer to again.
You're very welcome and Happy New Year :)
Great video! I found it VERY helpful.
Made it to the end! Thank you for taking the time to make this.
You're very welcome!
subbed, EXCELLENT WORK
Thanks!
Thank you
thank you sooooooo much, wish you good luck!🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊😊😊
What a legend. Awesome video

cant wait to get mine Monday - thanks Jay, this vid will help, coming from a Nikon (5100) background.
Perfect video for beginners ❤
Thank. you :)
Brilliant. Thank you Jason.
Hi Jason, big thanks from France 👍
Great in depth video, thank you. Subscribed
Awesome, thank you!
excellent video. I may have bit off a bit more than I could chew with purchasing this camera so i appreciate your indepth review. Do you have a video on updating the firmware? I see my firmware needs to be updated.
Hello and thanks :) I did a firmware update tutorial video for the Sony A74 which is basically the same exact process: ruclips.net/video/rT0hCG01H80/видео.html Firmware Download for the A7C2 is here: www.sony.com/electronics/support/e-mount-body-ilce-7-series/ilce-7cm2l/software/00301105
Great video. Just one question - can I start and stop video recording remotely? With a phone? Computer?
thank you very much , god bless you
Thanks so much for posting this. Just bought this camera and was so disappointed in Sony's documentation.
You're very welcome!
Thank you you did a great job
Superb Video Jason thank you 👌
Well presented. Thank you.
Thank you Jason, very informative, maybe a little to much...I was wearing out my finger on the pause button. One question that I am a bit frustrated on. I put the memory card in my computer reader and it only shows the JPEG files, I can not find any video. Can you please tell me what I need to do to have the files show up on the card? Thanks
Yeah, they are in a different folder.... see here: ruclips.net/video/kv8HYCYGyTw/видео.html
