Along with Bill Bruford, Gavin is one of my all-time favorite drummers. Interestingly, whilst listening to this gem, I felt like I was transported to King Crimson's Discipline/Beat/Three of a Perfect Pair era, but with Bruford incorporating double bass pedals into his repertoire, and maybe some 80's Alan Holdsworth structures thrown in for good measure.
I noticed that too. 99/100 guys playing that groove wouldn't have been able to work those hat releases in like that. It's so freakin clean! Aside from drummers, I don't think most folks understand how difficult those subtle coordinations are. And Gavin's doing that kinda stuff all the time, almost effortlessly - it's like each of his limbs has its own brain...
@@Drummr88 I'm not a drummer (ok, I played during a blue moon, but after a Terry Bozzio clinic I kissed the kit goodbye and put down my sticks for good) but I always say "GH is on a different hemisphere". His way of fluid layering and placing his patterns on the drums, is phenominal. He comes up with a creative work around (e.g. use mutiple snares to record one song) or with a witty flick of the stick, so he can play his patterns as fluid and subtle like only Harrison can ánd make it interesting for us to watch and listen to. I guess we are all just blown away by and hooked on his authenticity. 🥇
That wry smile by Gavin at 48 seconds made me smile ... a true master of his instrument enjoying every second. That's what it's all about. This guy could make spackle buckets and trash can lids sound like a million bucks !!!
I am learning a lot with Gavin lately... Am I the only one who loves his performance on PT's The Incident? Anyway his best performances IMO are live, and my favorite of him is in the Anesthetize DVD... great drummer.
I've attended both Anesthetize recording days in my hometown Tilburg, NL. I was right in front of him. (funny though, I can hear myself chear a few times during a break or after a tight ass fill and there are some glimpses of me too in the dvd) Gavin Harrison is phenominal. Always in hyper-focus, communicating with his bandmates and delivering every salvo in fluid precision. And although Porcupine Tree is a great pleasure to watch, as far as I'm concerned, Harrison is on a different hemisphere and steals the show. And I've attended quite some shows to see Harrison, but still, I am bummed I missed The Man who sold Himself Amsterdam NL gig with 05Ric! 😞
Every now and then I like to come back to these rare live videos of GH + 05ric and be reminded how god damn incredible this is. I really wish They'd tour this material extensively. Would love to see them in Australia together
Yeah, and I'm also hearing a bit of Holdsworth style arpeggiation and chording, and Paul Williams vocals, let's say, off "I.O.U." However I like this piece, mainly on the strength of the vocal timber and melodies, and don't consider it that derivative.
Bruford said in the late 80s he can't wait to hear what will happen in the future w their use metric modulation and sound. So then this happens. It's only the beginning folks there's kids out there doing reaction videos of all the Prog from the past ...just wait..
Really dig some of that - sort tripped fusion. I couldn't stand being there seeing that computerized light scene though - I'm almost sick just seeing it here. OMG switch it off!!
I love this video, and the song, I have seen Gavin play it live at a clinic. I did think it took way too long for the spotlight to get to the bassist when he did a solo!
Love this tune, very King Crimson-ish, especially in the guitars and vocals. Although Gavin actually sounds alot like Bruford in some of his beats here aswell.
I'm still bummed that I missed The Man who sold Himself tour gig in Paradiso, Amsterdam NL! 😔💔 But, there is proof that even a 12 year hiatus can come to an end, so maybe, some day, pigs can fly ...🤞
Once againg. The sonor tom-toms are the best sounding toms on planet! It all began from steve smith. his toms sounded fenomenal. Gavin proves it again. Still cannot understand how this little snare sound so low and tight. Still cannot understant where did you found this crazy bass player:-)))???
This is one of the best 05ric songs. The chorus is really sweet. Also think this live version has a more enjoyable guitar solo than the studio version.
Yeah listening to this instantly I had the thought Gavin would've also been great on the new BEAT/Crimson tour instead of Danny Carey - who's obviously also great and a very cool choice.
Precision! Gavin is precision! Every time, every song, every gig, he demonstrates an unreal amount of precision that few other drummers can match.
gavin harrison is quickly becoming my favorite drummer, that set sounds soo good every time

Yep I was getting frame by frame vibes from this track.
Most definitely. More than a hint of Eighties Crimson in this!
@@Eleventhearlofmars Me too!
0:24 oh god the way he opens the hat on the second 16th note in a triple hit mmmfffhphhh so clean holy shit
So clean!

Not only a great drummer but a musician to boot! He takes music and drumming to a whole new level. What's not to like?
This is great footage Gavin. Thanks for sharing!
4:28. There starts the beyond a drumkit beats. Thanks Gavin for your gifts.
That wry smile by Gavin at 48 seconds made me smile ... a true master of his instrument enjoying every second. That's what it's all about. This guy could make spackle buckets and trash can lids sound like a million bucks !!!
3:15 is freaking Genius sick fill, I think I heard it about 500 times by now, seriously woooowwww
SICK!!!!! Gavin is such an incredible talent!!
This deserves back up singers big time and a Holdsworth tone solo, I love 05ric Bass solos that sound like Holdsworth. Great group
I am learning a lot with Gavin lately... Am I the only one who loves his performance on PT's The Incident? Anyway his best performances IMO are live, and my favorite of him is in the Anesthetize DVD... great drummer.
I have that DVD as well the playing on it is inspirational
He nailed the ending of Way out of here with herta polirythm and cheating the poligraph. Love that dvd. Too bad Prodigal was cut out
check out his work with King Crimson

Ikr! His drums on The Incident sound so frickin good dude. It's what makes it my No. 1 PT album. Gavin is just in another whole dimension.
Wow... the vocal parts are actually very cool, nice melody against everything that is going on...open and flowing. Cool stuff!
Surely there's more footage from this show, I'd love to see the whole thing
Really impressed by ric's vocals here. great tune btw
Harrisons way of creating innovative (unsettled) grooves is just awesome, so much flow....:)
HE IS ONE OF THE GREATEST DRUMMERS OUT THERE!!!!!!
I do believe the word "complexity" goes well with this. Simply brilliant and amazing to watch better then just listening.
it really has Adrian Belew's vibes! Love it!
So lovely! and wicked!
The best drummer on the World!
No one is technically better than Gavin. Love to listen to him play.
Oohhh that groove at 4:50, never seen this before this is amazing
Gavin...is unreal ..so smooth and buttery!!
This is so much insipiring!!!! everytime I see a Gavin Harrison video I just want to take my sticks and start playing!! :)
Every now and then I like to come back to these rare live videos of GH + 05ric and be reminded how god damn incredible this is. I really wish They'd tour this material extensively. Would love to see them in Australia together
i so hope this band manages to be able to make its way to the states, i NEED to see this show
what a great show! thanks for uploading this video!
You are the best Gavin!
Stellar playing, even better mix! Cheers!
Gavin say's his double bass drum work is not what he works on the most...still, quite strong and Amazing....LOVE IT ....
Just awesome.
...I LOVE HIS STYLE...THE BEST STYLE EVER!!!
Gavin plays with at least 3 awesome bands! He’s an incredible drummer!!!!
Excellent job Gavin!! just say I hope someday see you in Costa Rica!!
'Discipline' - King Crimson anyone?
Yeah, and I'm also hearing a bit of Holdsworth style arpeggiation and chording, and Paul Williams vocals, let's say, off "I.O.U." However I like this piece, mainly on the strength of the vocal timber and melodies, and don't consider it that derivative.

love that snare sound! your overall drum sound mixing is awesome
Insane drum part!
Grazie di cuore !!!
i see where where talent has blessed you all!! awesome!! i like
nice camera work and tasty drumming as always, Gavin!
freaking awesome.....
Gavin harrison is the reason why you just give up playing drums and buy a yo'yo... #ManLove
11 people feel the same :D
Why give up?have fun.
I just took up sailing
gusbandicoot not when you’ve watched a yo-yo tricks world championship. Just buy a pedigree dog 🐕 and take it for walkies everyday.😂
why, .. so to me,.. Gavin is just an incentive to develop me as a drummer
Would love to see 05Ric in Toronto
Was very pleased to see when he toured with King Crimson.
Hey Gavin, was the full performance from this set ever released anywhere. I really what I have heard!
That fill at 3:14 sounds just like the one he uses in Anesthetize by PT, love it
Yep, the heavy part of anaesthetise
Awesome performance Gavin...hear your going to New Hampshire in October..hope to see you there...
OMG double bass on last minutes was amazing :-D
HOLY MOTHER OF GOD!!!
mahn i loved that
Oh man! Gavin Harrison does it so coolly. Makes me feel like why am I drumming?? :-P
Really dig some of that - sort tripped fusion. I couldn't stand being there seeing that computerized light scene though - I'm almost sick just seeing it here. OMG switch it off!!
Perfeito!!!
Superb!
I liked your comment "Grazie Mille" in our language 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻🤙🏻
Really fresh...i like it very mouch!
this piece is well played. I'm getting a King Crimson vibe from it.
Discipline, Beat, Three of a perfect pair era
Also PT's

Incredible drumming!
Very very impressive ! It's amazing, why this is so easy for you Gavin? Thank you for the sharing and I wait another video with impatience !

HELL YES!
Bel lavoro Andrea! Wow an amazing show!
A really interesting song.
Refreshing, Unique, Technically difficult yet FULL of Groove... Awesome as Always, Gavin! Reagrds from Argentina!
I love this video, and the song, I have seen Gavin play it live at a clinic. I did think it took way too long for the spotlight to get to the bassist when he did a solo!
I saw him in a clinic in Halifax, Nova Scotia. Sitting 5 feet away from him. Insane.
Love the 'C0P Cam'!
the best !!!!!
Talk about original drummer almost every one of his songs there are fills u never heard anyone do before!
Love this tune, very King Crimson-ish, especially in the guitars and vocals. Although Gavin actually sounds alot like Bruford in some of his beats here aswell.
+Simoto92 I love King Crimson, and as someone mentioned this is very Discipline/Indiscipline, but Bruford has nowhere near the chops that Gavin has.
So King Crimson!
awesome
Dat snare sound!!
this is ridiculously good
King Crimson's influence on this is undeniable
I deny it
I'm still bummed that I missed The Man who sold Himself tour gig in Paradiso, Amsterdam NL! 😔💔 But, there is proof that even a 12 year hiatus can come to an end, so maybe, some day, pigs can fly ...🤞

Gavin proves it again. Still cannot understand how this little snare sound so low and tight.
Still cannot understant where did you found this crazy bass player:-)))???
Thiago's bass solo.... so nice.
That's some slick playing.
Holy $hit! Gavin!
😎👍🇬🇧🥁GAVIN!!!
This is one of the best 05ric songs. The chorus is really sweet. Also think this live version has a more enjoyable guitar solo than the studio version.
Excellent and brilliant! you must come to sweden!:D
Amazing my friend! I hope I get a chance to witness you guys live some day (I live in Finland and your tour doesn't come here :( - yet)!
Просто шедевральная игра!
Gavin is my favorite and the GH05 band is superior! Thanks for the post, looking forward to more great videos.
Great job
Bravo!!! Disipline Crimson like

Sono morto
WOW
It's Discipline era Crimson with David Sylvian singing! And it's fucking awesome!
Yeah listening to this instantly I had the thought Gavin would've also been great on the new BEAT/Crimson tour instead of Danny Carey - who's obviously also great and a very cool choice.
remaind me of king crimson
oltre ad essere un grandissimo batterista è anche una persona simpatica :)
