2 years I've waited for a video like this. One that would finally get my truck to stay on all night. You sir are a god amongst truck drivers. I drive for England so yeah their idle override crap sucks. I'd like to see the England's sleep in a truck while its 78 degrees outside. See how they like it. Again thank you. You just made my life a whole lot better
josejuan817 bro tape a hand warmer over the temp reader under the driver mirror if you still drive for England that is and have a 16 or newer also our late model 18’s have opti in the settings you can toggle
Saludos desde México buen hombre gracias me funciono ahora si podre descansar un rato dios lo bendiga ojalá asi fueran todas las personas y pudieran aportar algo
Hey it worked. I didn't use the weight dumb bell. I used a shoe. Wedged it between the foot peddle and the bottom of the dash. It worked. Man thanks allot. Wasn't getting any sleep because of the heat. Now I'll be able to. God bless you
this apu on my truck was driving me nuts , I tried everything to over ride my idle but nothing worked, thanks to u , I tried ur method and it works on my 2016 cascadia , thanks a million , finally I could have some sleep
I been away from solo driving for over a year. Went with a new company to solo and they have the optimized idle. Tried everything I could think of to keep this truck running. It's 9 degrees Fahrenheit and that dang optimized idle quit on me thanks for the new trick. My dog and I won't freeze tonight while we sleep. THANK YOU!!!!!
Thank you so much for this info. My boyfriend has a Cpap machine and couldn't get the truck to idle no matter what he tried. I found this, guided him through it and finally its working.. Thanks a million!!! 👍👍👍☺
OMG. Only been 19 minutes so far, but this is definitely working. My APU is crap. They "repaired"?????? it a few days ago, but crapped out on the second day after the so called repairs. I also tried every other "fix", but nothing worked until now. Thank you very much for making this video. You are a genius! Thanks Roger! It's hot as hell down here in South Florida without a/c running in the sleeper.
Dude you are my hero today. I was freezing at 7 degrees temperature because this Penske rental would only iddle for about 10 minutes. Until I found this. I used a bag of tire chains, pretty heavy haha
My shoe box full of bills, trip sheets, and receipts is just heavy enough to keep the pedal down. Hahaha.. Thanks for the info, my apu stopped working. Now I won't freeze to death.
Thanks, Roger. I was surprised how simple this is and that it works. My truck will only remain idling if it is below 35 degrees or above 70. But....if the company is gonna make me sit all day, this works great when I need to run the truck for an hour or so to keep the batteries charged to power the various electronics I keep in the truck.
I love you! I own the truck and want it to idle in the winter but need idle shutdown in the summer. You saved me a bunch of cash at the dealer! 2017 evo
Yes. This does work on my 2015. Thanks a million man. I just turned in a 2013 old lease truck (I'm a company man) and it didn't have the idle shutdown or the stupid on guard system. I looked at 8 trucks and this was the only one that didn't have ONGUARD so I took it. Come to find out it has an idle shutdown. Not anymore!!! Kudos friend.
Hahaha! I was considering trying this method when nothing else was working! My main reason was keeping my Xbox from shutting off when the truck starts. Thanks bud
Going on 10 minutes still running. I cant believe it! iv tried every thing but this lol Luckily I have dumbels in my truck. I think it's crazy they have a range of 34-68 like 35 isnt cold. The inverter gets down to 12v and screams EOS. Cant even watch a movie I have to start the truck every 30 minutes. Not anymore thanks a million sir
This works ! On my 2016 Freightliner. I just drop the pedal to the floor beore starting, using a hammer as a wedge between the pedal and dash. It low-idles at about 6,000 RPM, and I don't have to touch the cruise. If you only occasionally idle to keep up the batteries, most companies don't care, but you have to beat these 'idiot proof' systems :p. Thanks a million !
you are the fucking man sir works like a charm i dont even have to push the resume button just hold the pedal down and start my truck an the rpm only goes to 6
It works bro thanks alot... I was about to quit celadon cause I'm not freezing in this winter! I might still leave celadon... crappy company. Worse move as a driver so far by coming here!
I don't drive anymore, but when I was driving, I had a small 12v heater I was able to point at the outside temperature sensor. It would register like 110-120 degrees outside, and truck stayed running all night lol. Wish I knew this trick
I have a 2018 Cascadia Evolution. My company said to idle the truck at 800 rpms when it is really cold. So to do this you have the truck in neutral, turn on the cruise control and just hit the accelerate button a few times and it should just run. Hope this helps.
I learned something for the 23. Fasten seatbelt, u can be in or out😂. Out is preferred. Push in yellow break, then idle up to 2. Been on for a long time. Over an hour so far. But seat belt is key
awesome! turn on cruise set idle where u want and just put a flat head screw driver in the crack holding the pedal slightly down works!! my apu is broke i really hate to idle (my truck full service ryder lease) but its hot af and now i can get the apu fixed when its convenient for me not them. (2016 cascadia evolution with the autoshift)
Hey Roger, thanks for the info. I also drive a Cascadia and have a little different method I use. Start the truck and let it idle, turn on the cruise control button, then just touch the resume button. You'll be able to tell if it's working if you put your foot on the accelerator and nothing happens. My method just keeps the truck running for about 30 min. Also, if after 5 min. the shut down lights start to flash, just touch the fuel peddle again and it cancels the shut down. This method only keeps it on for about 30 min, so it sounds like your way the truck runs a lot longer. I use my way if I'm just having lunch and don't want to leave the truck.
Update: well all of the information you gave me was awesome, and I'm sure it works for a lot of people - but apparently I have the smartest Freightliner truck on the face of the Earth... You can't fool it with wheel chocks, and the idle/weight combo was figured out by this truck as well... So what I had to do, was adjust the weight on the gas pedal to trick the truck into believing there is a foot on the accelerator by balancing the weight on the accelerator... And the truck figured that out too.... 🤦🏽♂️ I'm doomed
clarence montgomery on mine I use @ 5 and 2.5 lb weight zip tied. Then it’s zip tied with a loop over the top. I use another sand bag at 2 lbs to keep it at above 1000 rpm. Usually at 1100 rpm. Sometimes it slips a bit in rpm and need second sand bag. So about 9.5 lbs of weight holding the pedal constant. With it hanging down. Metal weights not plastic. It works great. But vibration does sometimes makes the pedal rise and below 1000 rpm it shuts off.
I tried this with my foot just to see if it would work. It did. Once you start the truck with the peddle down and hit Accel/res, after the rmps go up you can let go of the peddle and it will stay on 700 rmps.
My variation that worked on my new (to me) 2016 Freightliner Cascadia I was assigned; had a 2015 International they retired and idling was never an issue on that truck. This video IS CORRECT.... however, in my method, I did not need a dumbbell or any weight whatsoever; here it is step by step: 1. Start your truck or if you've been driving and are just parking, NO need to shutdown and restart. However, you can do it either way. TURN OFF CRUISE CONTROL 2. Wait until the "engine" dash indicator starts flashing; alerting you that the engine is about to shut down.... right when it starts, TURN ON your cruise control with button on left side of steering wheel. 3. Mash you gas pedal slightly to about 1500 RPMS (in neutral of course) and press the ACC/RES (accelerate/resume) once or twice.. I do twice only since it worked the first time... i think once you press it the first time, it doesn't matter how many more times, but not screwing with my method:) 4. Release gas pedal and let idle normally. Sit back and chill, you're good to go That's it.... after 5 minutes, I know mine is overridden, yours may have a different time setting. A few points to make: 1. Some RUclips videos mention releasing your parking brakes on the tractor and that it "tricks" the computer on the truck that your driving. I FOUND THIS WORKS EITHER WAY.... obviously, if you're bobtail you can't rely on the trailer brakes to keep you from moving....AGAIN, for me, it works with parking set or released. IF you do try/required to releasing parking brakes, please chock one of your drive tires on either side for added safety. 2. Please note, I work for a "mega carrier" (for now).... you know who they are...they are also known for squeezing pennies wherever they can and make it hard enough to override ANYTHING, so if I can do it in a "mega carrier" truck, most likely it will work for those of you who work for midsize carriers, etc..... 3. (For newbies) Please, if you "Check Engine" light comes on steady (not flashing) as in the idle shut off scenario, YOU HAVE AN ENGINE PROBLEM... GET IT TO A SHOP! Again, this video is CORRECT, but my method works and I don't have to buy a dumbbell and I have verified then"parking brake" tip on other videos is optional. I personally don't like knowing my parking brakes are released, regardless of if I'm attached to a trailer or not, so I (and you) don't have to worry about that tip. Finally, please know if you move just a few feet.... say decide to move to a closer parking spot at a Loves or something after you've overridden the idle shutdown, you may have to do it all over... luckily, it's extremely easy! Good luck and drive safe
I work for a mega company too and their trucks will shut off even with it in drive and with the parking valves not set. Happened to me while I was waiting for a spot to open up 😡
It's funny because when we first started working for this company, all we had to do was turn the truck on and have the Drive switch set and it would stay on forever. Now, in the same exact truck, no matter what method we use, it's gona shut off. Real BS and frustrating that the company goes out of their way to make sure you can't use the heater or AC when you really need it.
britt dino Makes me wonder what would happen if you got stuck at some dumbass light on a hill and maybe a cop stops traffic for a bit. You'd have to remember that your truck is gonna shut off soon! Kinda dangerous if you ask me but, they don't care.
Mines idle for hours at one time, but can't remember what setting it was, damn, I should have paid attention, my apu blowing hot air, had to get up in the middle of the night to cool off.
Is there any way that the company can find out about this? What I mean is would this use more fuel? Not too interested in having to find a new company but also not interested in roasting! They don't realize that even in 55 degree temps the truck stays at about 76-78 with 2 people in it. Currently have a bag over the mirrors outside and it's working but not sure how long lol
wishingonflowers ... If your company has gone to the trouble of installing a device to override your idle, you can probably count on the fact that they're able to monitor your activity, including fuel consumption.
I follow these steps exactly and it's not working, I turn the key to the on position then set up the weight, then I turn the truck on but it ramps up to 1500 RPM (governed max rpm)....
Try reving engine , hit cruise control while holding throttle , engine should idle at higher rpm , hit the plus button for higher rpm , should idle for an hour or two
The override button works on my 2016 cascadia II but doesn't work on other trucks in the same company.. Depressing the brake pedal also works on all 2014 to 2016s that I've been in. Thing is pressing something defeats the purpose of having it continue to run for HVAC while resting. Has anyone asked their company to disable the shut down or adjust the temperature settings? I'm soon going to bring it up to my company and if it's as simple as asking the temps to be adjusted... I'll let ya'll know!
I did it and but thiers an easier way do what he said but use your foot and bring it up to 700 n turn on cruze control n tap the acc/res button and it should go up to 8 or stabilize n u can remove ya foot it should stay reved up at u or 8 n it wont shut off
I have a 15 Freightliner cascadia . I had problems with the cruise control setting. only way this will work for me is if I go into the parked menu and scroll down to engine info then set the cruise control. it idles at 7 rpm and hasn't shutdown since I figured this out about an hour ago. thanks.
WORKED!!! For the record, I used my 5th wheel pin puller to set the throttle. I propped the "T" under the wheel, and Made sure the wheel had a good solid amount of downward pressure. Thank you!

Loving it. Thanks again.

thanks a million bro! I would like to nominate you as the 2016 OTR Trucker of The Year!

Thank you for your video. It really works. I think thousands truck drivers are waiting for thisvideo.
No problem, glad it works for ya!
they way u smiled at the end of the video was like you knew you just solved everyones problem
Timothy Guerra it was more about getting back at the system but I’ll take that too.
Damn this really works on my 2017 Cascadia. Thank you sir.
Pavel Jakl , NICE
this works on my 2017 freightliner. ...thank you Roger. ..very much!!!!

Yeah, I hear you bro, I'm probably gonna get fired for it but there's no shortage of trucking jobs right now...lol
Hahaha! I was considering trying this method when nothing else was working! My main reason was keeping my Xbox from shutting off when the truck starts. Thanks bud

Thanks this works , my Apu went out yesterday. 2016 Cascadia
It’s working. I went home for a week and came back to truck and it was still running. Nice cool truck when I got back in. 🤣

James Erikson did the above instructions work for you? If not, your company disabled it
Doesn't work. I work for England.
Awesome, great info because my APU is TRASH!!!! 😩😩😩😩😩😩😩
Do you put it in idle mode? Or should I just hit the acel button and that's it?
Thanks

I was held upp in road construction waiting on the pilot car, after two minutes it just kept shutting down. It is a major pain in the butt.
that's my boy Roger
I had a mechanic laugh about the espar bunk heater constantly not working, and idle sensors not accurate, sometimes you get lucky!!
Harry Keen mine works fine, in California...lol
Oh so sweet 😋
worked perfectly!! thanks!!
This is true I thought of this along time ago i was using my toolbox but now i use my 25lb weight now.
Thank you so much
My boy... 👍💪💪💪
Will it work on a 2019 for some reason does not have the opti idle option ? Have watched all the videos but does not have that option.
Ronnie kamper Not familiar with 2019’s
Worth a try
I'm going to try it out
I follow these steps exactly and it's not working, I turn the key to the on position then set up the weight, then I turn the truck on but it ramps up to 1500 RPM (governed max rpm)....
Try reving engine , hit cruise control while holding throttle , engine should idle at higher rpm , hit the plus button for higher rpm , should idle for an hour or two
Does the cruise need to be on?
The override button works on my 2016 cascadia II but doesn't work on other trucks in the same company.. Depressing the brake pedal also works on all 2014 to 2016s that I've been in. Thing is pressing something defeats the purpose of having it continue to run for HVAC while resting.
Has anyone asked their company to disable the shut down or adjust the temperature settings?
I'm soon going to bring it up to my company and if it's as simple as asking the temps to be adjusted... I'll let ya'll know!
Haahaha😂😂😂😂😂 this was Gold!!!!!
What works on a 2016 freightliner cascadia evolution
If there's any difference
2016 Evolution DD15 with optimized idle. Yeah its work ! My batterie a/c die today :/ No choice idleing haha
thank you..I go make ,my company doesn't care if I have ac oh don't..
It's a good thing to know being as my espar heater never works when it's cold. Fucken junk.
thanks
I did it and but thiers an easier way do what he said but use your foot and bring it up to 700 n turn on cruze control n tap the acc/res button and it should go up to 8 or stabilize n u can remove ya foot it should stay reved up at u or 8 n it wont shut off
Mine shuts down between 20 degrees and 70 degrees. 71 degrees and above it'll run all night.
thank you!
put you trailer brake on and your tractor off.. pull out red push in yellow.. and start engine
I wonder if this will work on a 2017
pcguy36 remind me and ill let you know by tomorrow
I am running a 2017 Cascadia day cab and I can't find it
Works perfectly in my 2017 Cascadia Evolution.
pcguy unless you're sleeping in your day cab, why would you need to?
well if you sit at a customer location for several hours when it is 100+ that might get a little warm
Ok so what is the point on the dumbbell when you can just use your foot 🤔
2016 Freightliner Cascadia evolution. Nothing overriding idle shut down including this method. Truck shuts off at 3 minutes and 45 seconds.
I used to do that on my old 2013 but on the 2017 it doesn't work ;(
I have a 15 Freightliner cascadia . I had problems with the cruise control setting. only way this will work for me is if I go into the parked menu and scroll down to engine info then set the cruise control. it idles at 7 rpm and hasn't shutdown since I figured this out about an hour ago. thanks.
