Yep this works, chock the wheel, and **don't do this bobtail**(lol), and if you open the driver door the horn will honk so use the passenger door if you want to keep it idling without bothering other drivers when you exit and re-enter your truck
It's ashame we have to do these things to bypass the shit systems in order to be comfy or to survive. One day I'm just going to quit because it's bullshit not having a way to keep warm because the fuelvsaving mechanisms I've encountered are unreliable.
Thanks for posting this. I've been trying to get mine to idle for the longest. I need to say that mine had actuallly idled off while I was in D and no brakes released... just my foot on the brakes in stopped traffic. I understand that most these features are customizable and their "default" setting could really depend on the Carrier you drive for. I've used the chokes on the gas peddle... play with its position until you rev the engine up about 1rpm over it's idle. Your trailer brakes are much more likely to freeze and make you get down there with a hammer after your 10 hour reset.
Dr diesel will turn off idle shutdown for $100, or find the outside air temp sensor plug located on drivers side rear frame rail (looks like a capped off connector plug) and unplug it. You'll get an engine check light, but it will idle all night
Hey thanks for the video man! I just got a 2019 last night and it was driving me crazy that I couldn't Idol it and the mechanics didn't know the trick that you do! I do drive for Maverick so we get performance points based on our idle time but if I have to use it to recharge my battery for 45 minutes this is a great option thank you man
Yep this is how mine works also. I release the parking brake only on flat parking areas though and chalk the wheels as an extra precaution. If your truck is on any incline you can also set your RPMs to max with your tractor brake on and this will also override the engine shutdown.
When I was issued my 2016. No one told me about the idle shutoff. I thought it was like my trainers 2017. Well to my surprise I spent a couple nights sweating my ass off in Laredo, TX. It was only 97 in the evening. Then I meet some drivers who showed me that I only need to do is turn on cruise & hit set. That works for my 2016.
Some trucks have it on the frame rail behind the axle most are hidden in the mirror. On the drivers side mirror you will see a nipple looking thing sticking out at the bottom of the plastic housing. That is the tip of the sensor unit that detects the temperature. On the 2015 I had right behind the lower mirror is the top of the unit. It unplugs like a head light. After that out side temp guage will go blank and check light will go on. The 2018 I'm in today has the same nipple thing but sensor body seems to be hidden in the mirrors support. If you hold the sensor thing in your hand it heats up the trucks guage. I had my hand on it for 3 minutes 10 minutes later it say 67 degrees outside and it's only 50 out. Just remember to plug it back when going into terminal so shop doesn't see it . I did it all thru winter in the 2015 and nobody figured it out. Seems the 2018 is just harder to get to but I'm only driving for 2 days so not messing with it
Great video but I’m bobtailing most nights after dropping the trailer. 😔 I just want to blow this truck up! Need to get mine out of the shop and not have this problem. UPDATE: I had Freightliner turn it off. They charged one hour labor. Well worth it. No more shut down now. Great 😊!
Thank you for the tutorial, this worked. I want to emphasize the fact you must press on the break when you release the yellow spring break. Thanks again PS anybody reading this the bunk heaters do work without the vehicle running
The problem with opt idle is it will shutdown and restart through out the night. That's if you get it to work right. Mine only idles for two hours then stayed off in standby mode.
Ethan Lee If outside temp is lower than 70F that button won't work on my truck and it will still shutdown period. Only if it's hotter than 70F you can idle. (That's what MY Cascadia does)
If I push it on my truck it just idles for a few mins before trying to shut down again. If I leave the tractor breaks pressed in for 30 minutes it shuts off, etc etc it's a real drag considering it has opti idle (which isn't working) and the bunk heaters broken -.-
@@ganaughns7190 I've heard many different tricks, and every truck has its own. But, the best way is take it to FL dealer. It takes 5min for them (plus wait time though lol)
On mine that only works for about 45 - 60 seconds. Have to sit in driver's seat and keep pushing it. Used to be able to idle by just releasing the parking break. So far the fix this nice gentleman offered (combo of upping engine idle AND releasing parking break) is working for me. Thanks!!
Click on optimized idle click ok to enable then you'll see interior comfort mode switch to on position. You have to keep the key in the on position it will start by itself
These trucks are handsome, but they made so many odd choices. Low bumper, if your company doesn't buy the fridge, there is a huge empty space, and no shelf for the TV, inverter is standard, but DC phone port in bunk is not, and some vicious anti-idle enforcement. These kinds of choices will leave inexperienced drivers stranded without enough battery to start their trucks.
I figured that out myself. How do you change the time on the clock? I found where you can change to Daylight savings time or not but the time still isn't right.
Thank you for posting the link. Unfortunately when I press the menu button on the right side of the steering wheel twice, it doesn't have an optimized idle option in the menu. It shows "Engine Idle Adjust 1/1" I don't know if that means it isn't equipped or if it's been hidden from me. Suggestions?
The one what i have been driving is simply push twice that button like in the video then U WILL SEE THIS WARNING CAUTION To avoid unintentional and bla bla so press ok then u will see interior comfort off just with arrow put it to on mode and then there is a nob in the sleeper compartment, just turn that on and here you go the sensor in ur cab will determine when to start the engine or shut it off
You do know that it’s not good to freeze to death, being alive is better than filters and this government BS that causes all this inhuman torture of poor drivers, you must be company owner, I owned trucking company but I cared too much for my drivers that’s why I have no longer my company but I’m happy that didn’t take advantage of hard working people I don’t need to be rich to be happy trucking should be more appreciated and truckers should be more cared for unfortunately corporate evil folks don’t care, god bless all truckers out there be safe!
I did this my second night in my 22 cascadia and it ran all night but now it only runs for about an hour. I think the company has these trucks by the balls and remotely adjusted the settings to make it turn off.
DONT RELEASE YOUR PARKING BRAKE!!!! YOU DONT HAVE TO CHAULK YOUR WHEELS ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IT SET THE IDLE TO THE HIGHEST SETTING AND THATS IT!!!!! IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL IT WILL DISENGAGE THE IDLE AND YOULL JUST NEED TO REDO IT. THATS ALL YOU HAVE TO DO
You put to much work into it.this is what I do. 1.start your engine 2..use controls on the left of your steering wheel 3.use right arrow to go to the truck picture vehicle settings 4 hit ok 5 highlight attention assistant hit ok 6 use down arrow highlight off hit ok 7 use return key on left side of steering wheel 8 when youu see the the caution warning just press ok.that's it don't press anything else.I have my truck for 2 days and had to figure it out 2018 cascadia Detroit engine.I hope y'all can get it to work 4.
thank you sooo much i was working in northern Ca canada -35 c and i belive you saved my life with your vidio....excellet job..
thanks again

thanks for making this video bro works on my truck now i can stay warm in 25 degree weather
Thanks buddy, works like a charm. Who knew I'd need AC in March, baton rouge, 80 degrees. Thanks!!!

Thanks for the info man, you have the exact same year 2018 I have, tried it and it's actually working like a charm!!
Dr diesel will turn off idle shutdown for $100, or find the outside air temp sensor plug located on drivers side rear frame rail (looks like a capped off connector plug) and unplug it. You'll get an engine check light, but it will idle all night
Thank you man this is working for me so far it’s been over hour

Thanks, it works great. The only thing I don't like is it turns the headlights on when the parking brake is released.
Thank you , this works
Thank you. Good video. Works.
Sr thank you for the video i have the same problem .
I've been doing this to a truck I got a few days ago ago and it keeps shutting off after 30 minutes. 1st time I tried it worked but lately it hasn't.
What happens if you are low on DEF? Could you still run it for the night?
Great video but I’m bobtailing most nights after dropping the trailer. 😔 I just want to blow this truck up! Need to get mine out of the shop and not have this problem.
UPDATE:
I had Freightliner turn it off. They charged one hour labor. Well worth it. No more shut down now. Great 😊!

Salute
Shit now I can take a damn nap. Thanks
It did work on my 2018, didn't touched the brake pedal though...
Yeees it wooooorks! Thank you Simple driver!
panov mitko how did you idle to 700 he didn't show that
Thank you for the tutorial, this worked. I want to emphasize the fact you must press on the break when you release the yellow spring break. Thanks again
PS anybody reading this the bunk heaters do work without the vehicle running
Your a lifesaver my ass was hot in California..lol
Isnt there a bunk heater?
They just keep fucking these trucks up more and more
Isn't this what interior comfort mode is for under Vehichle settings then Optimized idle? I'm new to this so just wondering if this is same thing.
This is for people who don't have that.
The problem with opt idle is it will shutdown and restart through out the night. That's if you get it to work right. Mine only idles for two hours then stayed off in standby mode.
That mess don't work at all. It will run for a HR or two and shut down and won't crank back up. It's a headache.
😭 they hid the option in our unit or it isn't equipped.
I have a 2018 and didn't work for me. Did step by step...
Right above the yellow brake there is a button "over ride/eng shdn".
Press it. It does magic.
misaVR I pressed the button but it didn’t do anything. I still don’t know how to override the shutdown.
Ethan Lee

Travis Brownlee that doesn't work
Travis Brownlee that shit doesn't work
Travis Brownlee . Don't work in 2018... i make in my 2016 and my 2017 and yes work ,,,, but now in my 2018 doesn't work
😭 they hid the option in our unit or it isn't equipped.
What kind of fuel mileage have you been getting?
5.3 average. How bout u?
7.8mpg going with the wind
You have to turn the a.c. on in the sleeper berth or else truck won't start by itself .
These trucks are handsome, but they made so many odd choices. So just turning cruise on and bumpin it up dont work anymore
When your order a truck unless it got a PTO they can disable the ability to raise rpm using cruise
Mine is 2018 freightliner
Just have to say you have a dog in the sleeper and they have to disable the auto shut off.
This didn’t work for me. 😭
I figured that out myself. How do you change the time on the clock? I found where you can change to Daylight savings time or not but the time still isn't right.
NVM I figured that out too...
Just idle the thing up and give it some damn oil pressure holy fuck
Here is the direct video from FrieghtLiner to fix this safely! freightlinerads.azureedge.net/2614-optimized_idle-engine_not_runn-2017-11-03.mp4

It will shut it self in few hours. I figure the same thing. Mine is 2021
There is a damn button on the dash that says over ride. Bahahahaha
Does not work for 2019 cascadia
Simple trucker you ain't gotta do all that. All you have to do is click on interior comfort mode
Travis Brownlee where I can do that? 2018 model...
Travis Brownlee in what uear?
Travis Brownlee how do you do that
But that will only make the truck run for 2 hour and stay off for an hour
Not on mine
You know you're plugging your filter, right? And its 5 thousand dollars to replace it, right?
You do know that it’s not good to freeze to death, being alive is better than filters and this government BS that causes all this inhuman torture of poor drivers, you must be company owner, I owned trucking company but I cared too much for my drivers that’s why I have no longer my company but I’m happy that didn’t take advantage of hard working people I don’t need to be rich to be happy trucking should be more appreciated and truckers should be more cared for unfortunately corporate evil folks don’t care, god bless all truckers out there be safe!
Why would you pop your tractor break if you LITTERALY are already automatically revving the engine lol
That doesnt work at all u still get slammed with the engine shutdown
o..ok
I did this my second night in my 22 cascadia and it ran all night but now it only runs for about an hour. I think the company has these trucks by the balls and remotely adjusted the settings to make it turn off.
Does not work on 2019
Rather just take it in to freightiner
Ask your mechanic to turn off the setting.
Best way to idle a 2018 cascadia drive it into a lake go buy a glider
DONT RELEASE YOUR PARKING BRAKE!!!! YOU DONT HAVE TO CHAULK YOUR WHEELS
ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IT SET THE IDLE TO THE HIGHEST SETTING AND THATS IT!!!!!
IF YOU ACCIDENTALLY DEPRESS THE BRAKE PEDAL IT WILL DISENGAGE THE IDLE AND YOULL JUST NEED TO REDO IT.
THATS ALL YOU HAVE TO DO
Thanks for this. I just got into a P4 a few days ago 🙌🏾
Bunch of crap.
Use your bunk heater.
What your doing doesn't work
If he had a bunk heater he wouldn't have to do this. Think!
Should be use the bunk heater when it’s hot outside? 🤔
That is not the correct way to do that sir
Who idles there truck these days when you can get apu units
Shane Schweiger APU is nice.. sadly though some of us drive fleet trucks for companies that don't give us APUs #SadFace
When the apu is down...
What if you don't have an APU?
People that don't have an APU, idiot.
Wow you are doing way too much! Read your driver manual page 6.1
You put to much work into it.this is what I do.
1.start your engine
2..use controls on the left of your steering wheel
3.use right arrow to go to the truck picture vehicle settings
4 hit ok
5 highlight attention assistant hit ok
6 use down arrow highlight off hit ok
7 use return key on left side of steering wheel
8 when youu see the the caution warning just press ok.that's it don't press anything else.I have my truck for 2 days and had to figure it out
2018 cascadia Detroit engine.I hope y'all can get it to work
4.
Thank you
