I think it blows that tubers feel pressured to minimize Patreon. What you do is valuable and you deserve all the money your thoughts and ability can bring you. I'm glad you set this up.
Agreed. I tend to cringe a little when witnessing your sense of guilt in referencing your resources Ian. It's called capitalism. You are a guitar teacher...and a good one at that.
this is a very important lesson: I've taken on board this theory, chord tones/arpeggios etc many times and try and practise it, get it down ... but make slow improvements, here this lesson directly applies it to a sound I know and like, and now it immediately not only completes the puzzle but provides a real incentive and purpose to practise. Really very very good, even if you didn't like Knopfler's sound, this is essential viewing to take to the upper levels of intermediate playing. thank you very much.
Connecting Chord Shapes - This lesson should be called "Stiching Your Chord Shapes Together" This is one of those lessons that can help to take a door that it cracked open to fully open. If you know your caged chord shapes, great! If you can play the chord tones, and full major diatonic and pentatonic scales from each shape great!... but connecting the chord tones from one shape to neighboring shapes - now that takes time and even more forethought while you play. If this is where you are in your playing, then this lesson is for you! Stich emphasizes note choices, not speed. The chord progression is simple, and the time in between playing chord tones gives you time to think about what you want to play next. No matter what, if you play a chord tone (or double stop), it will sound good and musical. I can't speak more highly about this lesson.
Thank you, Ian, for one of your best RUclips lessons yet. Building the fills on only the last chord in the progression -- and moving that up and down the neck, starting out with only the actual chord tones and then adding in a couple of embellishments (4th, flatted 2nd) makes things so much simpler and easier for those of us still struggling not to suck. Very much appreciated.
Love your relaxed teaching style and the way you explain and demonstrate things so clearly. You inspire an "I can do that" mindset which I'm sure makes most people just want to grab their guitar and have a go.
Fantastic. 18, 3rd guitar lesson of ten. "I want to play Sultans of Swing" 28 years later...you bring all together....Brilliant unpacking of Knopfler's thinking and how to understand what is happening instead of just memorising it. Now the brain twisting challenge of unpacking all his riffs onto the map you've given us! And providing us with a way of creating one's own riffs over the chords is real gift.
If you can already see the CAGED arpeggio shapes this is a wonderful lesson for making connections and seeing the surrounding intervals. Doing it with that classic progression is the cherry on top. Thanks, Stitch.
When you did this with simple twist of fate on the patreon Channel it blew my mind. So simple, I started trying this method of soloing, then I loaded up hotel California. So good!!
Dude thanks so much for this awesome lesson. I think this finally opened up the concept of fills between chords for me, which is something I've been working on for forever but it never quite clicked like it did watching this. Epic. Thanks a million.
I just wanted to say that your channel has single handedly made learning and forming my guitar playing 10x better. If I wanna learn something I search it then stitch method after it. Keep up the amazing work man
What is the best order to watch all of his videos. I know chords/ barr chords and my notes pretty well but he has an overwhelming amount of videos here.
@@mikefox2379 go to playlists and look at what kind you're interested in. In there either start with the first video or just watch whichever one you want. If it's something you might think is too "advanced" take literal notes for the future
After following your vids for a couple of years, this made perfect sense. Love this song and now I understand the fills. It's slowly coming together for me, thanks a lot to you.
I'd put off watching this series despite your suggestions in other videos, until now, because quite frankly, I wasn't ready. This is such a great series, and now that my eyes can see, it has opened up the fretboard in ways I hadn't even thought to wish for. I can spent endless hours (days, weeks...) now playing with this lesson alone. I've noticed the C shape seems to be a favorite of yours and it has been a challenge to talk my fingers into it, but I see it happening and I can also see why you like it so much. If I had an income I'd give a large part to you. You deserve it! Rock On and Stay Well!
On my Stichmethod Time Machine journey of solidifying my Cage Chord knowledge this is a brilliant lesson to actually hear and see Cage Chord Tones in action brilliant, I was listening and practicing this lesson and the lightbulbs were flashing, but I am going over the Cage Chord Primer List, thanks Ian, eventually I will be back on your Pateron group,
I don’t comment much on RUclips...but I had to let you know that you did it. You finally got me to understand how to implement the Caged system. I always understood the concept, the shapes and that it was valuable, but it’s never clicked on how to implement it in my playing. Huge thank you.
Your lessons are superb you are presenting guitar and music in a way that really makes sense and is very challenging but with that being said the results are very rewarding thank you very much
Great lesson. I just went into Knopfler mode on my guitar and my workday stress just lifted away. I discovered your never lost technique quite a while ago and now this!
You rock!!! Have learned so much in just a few videos of yours! Love that you don’t edit them out to make it appear that you don’t make mistakes. Thanks man!!! Keep it up!
It was great when you explained the flat 2nd when playing the a arpeggio, I aways thought that note sounded amazing in the fills but I didn't know why.great lesson as always.
@@BeefNEggs057 You're right and in actuality, it never really is put away. I have it permanently out on a multi stand along with my Tele, ES-330, and Yamaha SG1500. But the Strat gets the most playing time, for sure.

Very practical and insightful lesson using chord tones via the CAGED method! On an aside, I want to thank you for bringing me the Jerry Garcia Band. I've listened to Simple Twist of Fate and am currently listening to their rendition of Dear Prudence; I'm blown away. I see the light, Ian, hahah.

Hi Ian! thank you very much for your videos! they are the best videos on RUclips! I saw all your Blues Primer Playlist and they are brilliant!... I have a question- why do Knopfler use the A Major chord tones for the fills between the chords, if the Key is D minor? Thanks in advance!
Looks like Knopfler's 61' Strat. He said that "the pick is a biggest amplifier of all" he used fingerpicking technique instead. This song/sound hit me like lightning when I first heard it. Thanks for the instruction.
@StitchMethod Guitar 6 months waiting for Morning Dew...PLEASE cover how both Jerry and Mayer approach the solo? It's D Mixo into Dorian, but Mayer in particular is into hitting some bluesiness and Jerry slams into those arpeggios. I am too busy with work to sit down and work it all out, so please help us out🙌
Great lesson.. very eye opening. Allman Bros. Jessica uses that C Shape arpeggio linking move to the E shape as well. I struggled with arpeggios until now. Will definitely visit Patreon... Thanks Ian
What is an A Major doing in the key of F / D Minor? Is this something to do with the mysterious world of 'parallel keys' and 'borrowed chords'? Thanks for yet another excellent lesson Mr Stitch.
love special notes!! good caged lesson. Thanks. How the hell am I supposed to get anything done around the house. Now I gotta play this stuff all day long.
He's got a daytime job he's doin alright... well this guy is gonna be late for his daytime job! This is too good a lesson to go to work and leave this material unplayed.. calling in late because.. "I needed 'Stitches'.."
Not selected for the song…. Selected for the moment. A chord is being held for 2 bars at the end of the progression…. So A chord tones on top of the A chord being held.
