Shout out to my boy Masafumi Miyamoto for opening up that computer shop and hiring a young man named Hironobu Sakaguchi as a salesclerk. Without that happening, we wouldn't have any of these games-lesser-known or otherwise.
When you said Record Keeper, I got a pain in my heart. So much of my phone time went into tht game. I hope they release it as a full release one day.
Same
They put so much into the gorgeous pixel animations and of recreating every game in the franchise, old and new, and adapting them into a retro 16-bit style. Some of their music remixes were incredible, and honestly the gameplay loop was fairly engaging. Record Keeper is still going over in Japan, so I have no idea why they stopped the global service…
There's always something so satisfying about that Buster Sword slice at the beginning of every video.
After the Intro, I want to make a Quick Guess on what the 7 games could be.
-Final Fantasy Dimensions
-Final Fantasy Dimensions II (I'm cheating a bit I know)
-Final Fantasy Tactics A2: Grimoire of the Rift
-Dirge of Cerberus Lost Episode: Final Fantasy VII
-Final Fantasy Agito
-Uh... World of Final Fantasy Maxima ?
-Dissidia Duodecim Prologus Final Fantasy
Time to watch the video to see how wrong I am.
Edit: 0/7 - Oh well, I tried.
@@I.HEAR.A.SOUND.Yep, completely failed. The title is right, I didn't know any of those titles.
Not sure why you thought A2 was "unknown", that game is pretty well-liked.
@@Infindox the zombie side-quest is one of the best I have ever played.
I remember playing chocobo crystal tower. A lot.
If there’s one thing I found interesting is how half of the games on this list are Chocobo theme games
Dirge of Cerberus is a Masterpiece in my eyes
Never got to play any version except the mobile version that was very much weak tea
It was incredibly fun even if story is a little whack, if only it could get the same treatment as Crisis Core did recently but i doubt it lol
I agree with you @kingslayer2999, and I'm not really a shooter-game person.
Dirge of Cerberus is a shit game with a shit story.
High key need a remake
Dirge of Cerberus' online mode that existed is something I have yet to see anyone talk about in depth
Which is insane because it's actually quite important. At least the story segments are
@@cloudtg462 Canonical online only story content? 💀
@Vulpas Yea, it explains what Weiss and the Tsviets were doing during the original Final Fantasy VII game. And it's only exclusive to JP version of DoC's multi-player
@@cloudtg462 Region exclusive online only story content, bruh lol
I greatly enjoyed FFExplorers on the DS, I thought it seperated itself from your typical MH game pretty well with the ability/magic upgrade system. I hope they come out with another follow up that isn’t a gacha
That Sorbet FF12 game is some really obscure FF12 knowledge. So strange how, of all the characters, they chose Sorbet to star in a crappy spin-off.
sorbet is so hot
I actually played Chocobo Stallion in the early 2000's.
As an English-speaking child, I had no idea what was going on, and never played it even through the completion of any tutorial section. I doubt I even made it to a single race.
After watching this video I kinda want a ff game where your a blue mage and you get to keep and rise ff monsters build habit for them the whole zoo/farming game
@@RS-nh6gf i have played that but I mean I was looking kinda like monster hunter story's style. where you build a monster habit then you can go out and catch said type of monster and rise it. Maybe more like monster rancher. But focus on ff monsters
Another great video as always!
Love the content!
Great video!
The double-t in “Chokotto” contains a glottal stop, which sound does exist in English and so shouldn’t be difficult to imitate.
Can you make a top 7 final fantasy minigames video?
I played Final Fantasy explorers Force! It was good and fun, and I miss it sometimes; but yes the gatcha aspect was horrible and debilitating if you didn't pull. : /
I'm more of a FF nerd than my brother, but for some reason, he was weirdly excited about Explorers when he found it. So much so that he got me a copy (thinking "oh he likes FF, so he'll play it with me")... and yeah, it was insanely barebones. But looking at the Explorers Force, it did look much better and have more depth to it. Pity it was heavily gacha'd. They could have had something to rival Monster Hunters if they weren't so bloody greedy.
@@SolstaceWinters I feel the same way, I even thought similarly about monster hunter. I was so sad cuz the shutdown notice came FAST. I was like bruh you JUST released it! Bit then they did the same with First Soldier so it's like .... If it doesn't print money RIGHT NOW they toss it in the trash. So tired of capitalism ruining gaming
The final fantasy digital card game is the only one I knew of 😊
Have you guys heard of a little game called Final Fantasy VII
Any good?
I already knew all these existed (because I read Legacy of the Crystal 😊)
Was great to see video footage!
What was that one shown near the opening that looked like a game boy Chocobo game? It had Chocobo walking around a forest village with other chocobos sitting around, then another clip that looked like a human character being controlled in the same game.
5:13 I mean Dragon Quest games have gotten away with recycled assets since 1987. Not saying they all use recycled assets of course, just the ones with similar graphic quality.
Wait, World Wide Words wasn't a web game? They had what could have possibly been the only web game to do a "Super Title 64 Advance" and include "WWW" in the name like KH 3D Dream Drop Distance (which had TWO 3Ds in the name) !
Did you used to run a website in the 90s? I feel like it was on angelfire
Man I don't know why but I still wanna play World of Final Fantasy. Still need to get through, you know, every other Final Fantasy before it. But still I liked how indie that one looked.
Got whiplash seeing my sarcastic Chocobo gp review on here.
Seeing that Tower defense game reminded me that i had actually played it. I think i remember it being a bit difficult and never beating it. It also reminded me of my first ever mobile "game" download on an old flip phone i had. I say "game" because it was barely one. It was some Chocobo themed game where it had 4 different mini games or so.i think like 3 of them were basically just guessing random things to win and one might have been math based. I remember feeling pretty unhappy with it
kinda sad that u only accept a Creditcard on your Site to purchase the book.
I remember seeing the opening title cutescene for the first Chocobo Mystery Dungeon on Tech Tv/G4 years ago.
Greetings from Finland!
Square has a really bad habit of assuming that many games they put low effort into are going to make big bucks. They should probably do a bit more market research to confirm what will actually work for their audiences.
I mean, when you look some of the garbage that gets released nowadays to some degree of success, it makes sense to assume that minimum effort can lead to big bucks. The problem is people only expect that from games made by a single person, or the like. Not a legendary company like Square. So when Square tries the same thing, it will never be as well received because people expect better from them.
Chocobo crystal tower i did try. But i do remember there was another ff game on facebook. Somekind of card based rpg that allowed you to upgrade and pick your own teams. Not sure if it was a lwgit df game. It went down quite fast i believe.
You were right, I really didn't know any of those 7 games.
I sunk so many hours into Brave Exvius, but I made one fatal error: when signing up, I used "log in with Facebook." So when I deleted Facebook about two years later, it also meant I lost my whole account. I had Katy and Ariana, as well as a bunch of limited event characters. It was such a fun game to play but I'm still reeling from that mistake!
There was a mini-game that, I believe, may have originated on the black and white WonderSwan. I never had one of those but recall it was ported to Windows and had a tie in to one of the main games and allowed you to gain (IIRC) a Ribbon - the most powerful item. It feels like it would be around FF7 or FF8. Basically it was a chocobo that just wandered around in given directions until it found treasure. Or am I completely misremembering it? A lot of water has passed under my bridge since those days! I don't think it was a tie in with the console versions that I started playing from X onwards, or with Chronicles on the Gamecube. 🤔
Yeah that was Chocobo World! It was for 8 and I think it even let you get special GFs.
@@rond6135 I knew I wasn't imagining it. At my age everything feels like a Mandela Effect. 😂
Chocobo World. It was for FF8 and it was released for the Japanese exclusive PocketStation. It was essentially a memory card that could also download tiny games from games that supported it. It was basically the PS1 equivalent to the Dreamcast's VMU if you know what that is. I think the PC port (PC specifically, not the Steam version) added it as a feature.
The PC version came with a standalone EXE that ran a PC port of Chocobo World and you could use it's features to obtain the 2 (or 3 if you by playing it strengten boco itself) extra item-based GFs (moogle, healing [like Cait Sith's moogle dance in FF7] and moomba, single fire attack)
On PSX you can get these items by cheat codes, they are still there - just not accessible by play
Speaking of WonderSwan
There was a Chocobo game thare too. Hataraku Chocobo (Working Chocobo, kinda a Harvest Moon of FF...), one of the first standalone Chocobo Games.
The latest thing that could be added to obscure FF is the FFXIV Tabletop RPG
When I was an early teen I ordered a mod chip for my PS1 just so I could buy and play Chocobo Stallion. I had no idea what I was doing while I played, but I had it.
0:18 Dragon Quest: "This is BULLSHIT! We got ROBBED!"
Final Fantasy explorer was my introduction to the franchise.
I think was the first ever game with "Final Fantasy" I owned
I was there on one of the first few Digital Card game streams and i was actually interested in it, of course it being a mobile game means that not only did it not get ported but it's essentially lost to the void now. The mobile aspect of square is my least favorite part about the company. So many lost little gems. Final Fantasy Explorers as well. We need a mainline console version of the series.
8:08 omg i remember the championships and stuff around it. It wasnt as popular as pokemon but it was honestly fun as i tried it too. Along with their other mobile card game that was i think similar to it. Before it just vanished. And i think it was that, that overshadowed the original.
Please correct me as i think it was named heavansward or something. There was like a tutorial on it and everything and it was only on tablets. Dunno about phones. I really wish i remember as i do not have access to my email that had it (very very old gmail)
I'm interested in the TTRPG
I want Crystal Guardians with a big budget! Would be awesome!
so many of those games are Chocobo themed.
Looks like you could’ve done a Chocobo side game video by itself haha
Shout out to Kingdom Hearts Union X for completing the story it wanted to tell and going offline afterwards.
I know you meant offline. I was surprised they made that move and I'm very grateful for that. I just wish they kept and adapted the gameplay like they did with Dark Road.
@@KainDrake yes, thank you. True, just convert the gameplay to match Dark Roads then make the game offline only. That would’ve been nice. Now we wait for the missing game. Lol
They should do a Physical Triple Triad Card game.
Hey there, thanks for the comment! Square actually did produce a physical version of Triple Triad, but it was unfortunately never released outside of Japan. :( ~Darryl
@@FinalFantasyUnion oh wow I did not know that. Just looked it up and they have some cards online. I think I found my next collectible ❤️
Only knew about Dive II Hunt out of these, haha.
So this title may not be as obscure as the others, but did anyone else play Crystal Chronicles The Crystal Bearers on Wii? I played it years and years ago shortly after it came out but haven't noticed anyone mentioning it since then.
if we include Bravely Default as it is TECHNICALLY a Spiritual successor to "the 4 heroes of light", it had a Browser based sequel called Bravely Default: Praying Brage that was set 200 years atter the first game
You why some people don't know about these games? Chaos! He did this. Let's kill him.
Sure! Got a plan on how to do that?
Fair title, I didn't actually know about any of these games.
There is a boardgame based of the mini-cacpot mini-game found in FFXIV. Best played with 4 people as it is reather predictable with only 2.
6:00 More like monoply than Itadaki Street? Because I've seen that comparison with Itadaki Street even though it's basically _nothing_ like Monoply,
Seriously, just because it's a board game that's not like Mario Party doesn't make it "like Monopoly"
So a Final Fantasy version of The Typing Of The Dead.
We get it, you don’t like “Ever Crisis”😂
We need a sequel to this video, therss over 100 ff titles if you count the mobile games and wsird obscure ones
I miss Record Keeper, but not enough to play Global :(
Love the thumbnail i have a copy of this game but i have never tried it yet..
Growing up, I dreamed of playing every Final Fantasy game all the way through and 100% complete all side content. It's now become impossible to do so in my lifetime.
It is possible. Just play the ones made by sakaguchi. The ones made by Enix are not worth it.
That card game kinda looks like the one in rebirth that they showed
So many games that only existed for a brief moment in time, its a bit of shame. Like i actually kinda liked the tower defence game even though it wasnt all that good or anything.
A little sad there are no zip up hoodies on the storefront
I actually very much enjoyed Final Fantasy Explorers
So pretty much every final fantasy games only released in Japan and closed before they got to the west
Kinda surprised FF knights of the crystals didnt make it to the list. Im pretty sure nobody heard about this game
Yeeeeeah, i played that game for a short while. Stopped and when i tried yo play some time later it had been already shut down...
Yeah, consider myself a hard core FF fan, and haven’t heard of any of these!
MAYBE Didnt Know Existed would have been a more accurate title for most people.
I play FFBE for the record.
RIP Shaly
I actually like FF: Explorers. I get it was sort of repetitive, but so is Monster Hunter.
TYhought Mystic Quest would be around
If anything this seems like a reminder that Square Enix has tackled the mobile market really hard and failed most of the time... That card game looks really cool tho
Bright 🍬 😀🤘🏼
does anybody else know about salsitas chips
This video is basically a PSA telling you to never spend any money on SE mobile games because they'll be cancelled after 6 months
16:21 I think I still got that lying around. It's a great game if you're both a fan of Final Fantasy and Monster Hunter.
_sniff_ D-don't mention Record Keeper. My wounds are still fresh. Game went full Japanese servers-only. So weh. Played the game F2P for like 6 years, and got was unceremoniously dumped for not making them as much money as the JP players were.
So from what I'm to get from this video is that Square Enix has no idea how to manage mobile games and half the time they shut down within the first year because of extremely stupid microtransaction shit.
I mean it's tragic, in a way, as I absolutely grew to love "The First Soldier" and I hate battle royale games for the most part but what finally got me to give up is that I did not want to have to spend 200 to 500 dollars every month just to get the skins I wanted because it was all literally gambling when it came to SKINS.
You mean 7 cash grabs that's better lie forgoten?
RIP Record Keeper.
They really should have made it a stand alone like they did with Dimensions. What a waste.
This video really puts into perspective how Square is its own worst enemy. I'm pissed to this day about Explorers Force. It was basically a FF-themed Monster Hunter game. It had all the potential to be a hit. But no, they just had to fuck it up with gatcha shit and a mobile exclusive release. Un-fucking-believable.
I always end up switching off these videos when they devolve into talking about online games and mobile games. I really wish Square had stuck to making good games and not shovelware for phones.
"7 shameless cash grabs you didn't know Square-Enix had released"
The main reason to not have heard of a FF game seems to be breeding
Brave Exvius only has 48 million downloads? That's pretty meh for a gacha game, but it's still one of Square Enix's biggest money maker.
Maybe stop telling people what they do or do not know
@RS-nh6gf Don't worry; I could tell.
These are so weak.....
I knew those existed lol and, like many of the spin off games and mobile games, they are garbage.
Hello
