I mean the Moomba's helping you escape would make more sense if you made the choice help one of them as Laguna in the past instead of telling the guard his breath smelly. also imagine a boss fight before the time compression were Laguna's team has to fight a sorceress in the past so there's a way they'd end up in the final castle also.
That explains why Laguna's story suddenly stops during FFVIII, sure, you can see him when he's already established and he doesn't want to keep going on adventures anymore, but kinda feels anticlimactic, like it's missing something
90% of the comments about that last bit with Laguna and a lot deeper and expanded version of the FFVIII. Makes sense
I'd love to see a Final Fantasy VIII-2 featuring Laguna as the main character. There's plenty of lore they could expand on.

I really wished they did more with Laguna in FF8, he was one of my favourite characters and could've had a lot of potential. That and I'm pretty gutted that Laguna & Squall never had y'know THAT moment as it's pretty heavily implied that Laguna's his father but its never addressed between them in game, just would've been nice to see 🥺
To me it's clear that FF8 had not enough time for its development. They would show some stuff like the lunar monsters touching down but the effects of it on the world was limited.
EXACTLY what I scrolled down to comment! In my younger days, I was anxious, awful with people, and prone to leg cramps, so I totally resonated with Laguna. :) My only problem with him was he could've been a much better father.
8 should gave been three full length games. Laguna squall and seifer
@Kosename who knows? Maybe one day down the line Square might give 8 the same remake treatment and expand the story. It would be really cool if they kept that idea of whatever happened in Laguna's line (past) affected squalls line, make for insane replayability.

Laguna needs his own game, full of him being adorkable as always. And damn it, he at least better play some catch with Squall, and try (and fail) at giving him advice.
It would be great for Laguna to have his own game..starting out as a rookie and meeting Kiros and Ward and to have the game finish not long after he becomes president
The story of Laguna would be very interesting to see in a future game for sure and see how Squall reacts to his dad`s ways too.
I never understood why 8 never got supplemental material. 7 may have been better objectively speaking but 8 was still massively popular and they could easily have made spin off games or movies about Laguna or even just the sorceress wars in general. But nah let's just get another 20 installments of sephiroth. I hear this time around he wants to cast DOUBLE Meteor.
8 is one Final Fantasy that actually could have sequels and prequels that make sense.
I always thought 10 would've been better off with a prequel than a sequel.

If the FFVIII Remake ever happens (PLEASE!!!), Maybe they can add some of the removed story elements from Laguna! Also, it's reveled Laguna IS Squalls Father. But when they meet in the present, Laguna or anyone never brings it up to them! It's pretty much ignored! It always bothered me! That's another thing I hope they expand in the Remake! That Father & Son connection. Not to mention Final Fantasy VIII is MY favorite FF and RPG of ALL TIME! Again! Still preying for that Remake someday!

90% of comments about Laguna from FFVIII
One piece of content cut that stood out to me was Zack Fair and Vivi in Dissidia NT. I truly believe that had they have been in the game, it would have brought a bit of a resurgence for the game but unfortunately it was too late as Square Enix cut the game’s support in February 2020 when it was discovered they were meant to be the next characters. Little by little I’ve slowly been appreciating the game which is good as it was in the same category as MVC Infinite in terms of fighting games that make me angry, but man those two characters not making it in does hurt especially for my brother loves FF9 so much
Vivi would have been interesting to see in classic Dissidia.
No idea how his moveset would have worked, maybe his "focus" ability would be used to supercharge spells or he would have access to Stiener's Sword Magic for his staff?
I never really played it, but I don't think character selection was close to the main issue with NT.
@@Boyzby Character selection is one of the few areas where NT actually impressed me compared to the PSP games, rather than being extremely dissapointing. That said, I'd have put some more time into it if Zack was playable, while wishing he had been in Duodecim instead
I'm very surprised there was no mention of Final fantasy XV/Versus! There were so many cuts!
Most of what was shown off for Versus XIII were just mock-ups and thus was never actually realized.
@@WhiplashSL Gladio's Versus great sword is in the game files when someone datamined the game including what looks like an "engine dagger", a "polearm", a better version of the Two-handed sword and Force Stealer, Prompto's gun originally had a mini-grenade launcher and some of the swords got their hilts shrunk for some reason.. 🤔 there's even artwork of the Balmung that looked bigger but shrunk in the final game along with Prompto's Calamity having the underbarrel wing looked bigger.

Having never watched the movie, the anime miniseries, or played the DLC, I completed the game and still had no clue what was going on.
I'd love to see an ff8 prequel, set like WAY before the main game.
Digging further into the centra civilization, and why their continent is a wasteland.
And why they built the gardens.
And why they had Odin on deck, just chillin.
tsunami and earthquake hit JP delayed leviathan and titan hence they release king moogle and it became notorious as to what became was the hardest trial fight in post HW patch
I wouldn't mind a separate game just with Laguna and his gang.
I personally would not mind paying to see cut content on disc like movies do, a missed opportunity by game companies to see cut missions, story drafts and maps. I am curious to learn more on the Final Fantasy games, including 9 or 15 for example. Thank you for sharing this video.

I actually watched the Justice League re cut and omg it drags on. I defo can understand why content would get cut. At the same time when you love something it can be hard to imagne that some of it you didn't get to experience. I think have uncut version is the perfect way to please everyone. With video games I can imagine it's far harder to re-add cut content and do a directors cut.
You forgot to mention a cut out scene in OG FF7 Where Sephiroth actually cared for Cloud's well being,cus Cloud ended up feeling a bit sick on his way to Nibelheim which made Sephiroth concerned and he had told Cloud in that scene that he wished he could have brought something to make his sickness go away,and then Sephiroth suggested Cloud to look out the window in hopes that maybe that would make Cloud feel better and that was a really adorable scene between those 2 before Sephiroth became evil,but sadly Square Enix decided to cut out that scene... :/ And showing that scene would have actually given us a lil more depth about Sephiroth's sweet and caring personality before he went crazy and make his downfall even much more tragic and terribly sad :( Also in that cut scene it felt like Sephiroth and Cloud were actually really good friends and did not seem to think of Cloud as just some lowly Shinra Grunt but a comrade in arms. :/
I still don't get why they cut Gladio's original great sword from Versus it could have been easily been added in the final game like make it as the Iron Duke sword rather than reusing the "Two-Handed sword" model which looks already annoying especially when you find out that they shrunk the hilts on the swords and pole arms..
You know what, I just had a crazy idea;
While I do doubt SQEX wants to run 3 concurrent FF MMORPGs, out of all the established worlds (excluding Vana'diel and Eitherys obviously) Ivalice has the most potential to make for a pretty exciting setting.
The only question is, which era? I lean more towards Ramza's era but Vaan's would be the most likely I think due to the presence of airships but also all the geopolitical conflicts;
Remember that the Arcadian Empire is but ONE of many large, warring factions.
I suppose Orience could also work but then you don't get all the cool races.
Or make a new Era for Ivalice.
FFXIV kinda delves into dalmasca a lot as well as the event that happened in Ramzas era.
As the main over-arching story villian is delt with in this recent expansion, it wouldn't be unlikely they plan to send us into dalmasca next expansion given how many times it's mentioned and the fact we've been to parts already.
@@mayleelove4332 No it doesn't. The Dalmasca of 14 is not a part of Ivalice. That whole plotline was written by the same person yes, but they are in no way connected
@@Malacite That is officially correct. That being said, I genuinely think that there's a possibility that Ivalice was the Fifth shard that was rejoined during the First Umbral Calamity.

I didn't realize FFT STILL had missing content :o Minor content lore, BUT STILL! Also I understand the reduction in Laguna's "air time" because I think they wanted to keep the focus on Squall rather than confuse the player with too much of Laguna, BUT I also agree that Laguna's party felt kinda lacking because I remember when the 2 parties met, I wasn't nearly as excited as I think I should've been and thats probably because there was a lack of emotional attachment, especially for Kiros and Ward.
If they do a FFVIII remake someday, I want a whole prequel game dedicated to Laguna
Another fact related to the omission of Leviathan and Titan related to the Fukushima incident I remember on the same time they quickly changed the first opening of the anime Belzebub since the first part looked like a reactor near exploding. The first season must be like 11-12 episodes, but the first opening goes up to ep 7 and then switched to opening 2.
Should include all the cut Laguna content in a FF8 remake.
There is a third mini-game in FFIX on Disk3. You can play with the Nero brothers to guess which one is where.
I still feel like Laguna could have had his own Crisis Core or Dirge of game, but sadly with how polarizing ff8 is (despite the rep a lot as of late) , it probably won't happen.

I really wish FF8 was able to be completed with the Laguna and Ultimecia segments. It's also too bad we never really learned about Ultimecia's past and why she tried to take over the world. I have a feeling it has something to do with SeeD eliminating anyone who has the possibility of becoming a Sorceress. It's also possible her Knight was killed by SeeD, and without their influence, she slowly became evil.
I never knew 13 had some content cut from its final release.
There's a lot try to search for official concept art for XIII, I saw one with the Fal'Cie Diablos with many iterations of him even one with him wielding a guitar.
I see some people below wanting more of Laguna's story, or a remake of FFVIII. I have to add that part of the appeal with these older FF games is what you're left thinking about, not necessarily what you're shown explicitly. Every videogame, especially every FF, has tons of scrapped features and cut content that makes you wonder. Some of my favorite aspects in FFVIII were hinted at to such an extent that huge, well-researched fan theories formed which utilized every scrap of in-game lore. Years later, the creators went back to flat out deny these theories, but the game is so much worse when all the ambiguity left in originally is cleared up retroactively. I don't need to know what shirt Laguna was wearing when he conceived Squall, I just need to know that Laguna might be/ is his father to sell me on his absence having a profound effect on Squall.
Seeing that FF9 jump rope still gives me PTSD.

FF4 had most of its story cut due to the size of the game. Because the dev team never worked on the SNES before you can tell they probably made things bigger than they needed to be. As such they cut about 75% of the story out and restored only 50% of that back into the DS version.

Yeah, some love for Crystal chronicles. I may be they only person that loved that game, but to this day, I wish I could get 3 others to join me in finishing that unrefined gem.
Sitting here watching FF3 from snes just took me back. It made me think when I first played a Final Fantasy game.
I'm 41 so it would of have to of been Final Fantasy 2 for the SNES because the original was of course for the NES. I was 12 yrs old. It was a game changer. Became an exclusive role playing games for SquareSoft guy.
From '92 - '98 SquareSoft made so many incredible games it's kinda crazy if you think about it with Final Fantasy 7 being the masterpiece of the collection.
No, 7 isn't the masterpiece.. that would be final fantasy 9. 7 is overhyped its good but it's nowhere close to being the best at all.

A re-release of FFXIII should surely include the Seventh Ark, and a remake (if that somehow happens in 2030s+) should expand all sorts of areas, including the whole deal with 'arks'. Maintaining some general sense of 'hallway' - since this fits with the theme of 'fate' - but granting some reasonable flexibility when appropriate - to also fit with 'fighting fate'.
I miss Stella. I wish she was part of the final version of FF15
Perhaps it was too trivial to mention but that chest in Calm town in FF7 I could never open always bugged me. It was an age old mystery I recently discovered was just cut content but what exactly? They couldn't just replace it with some gil instead?

Having 1 person hold the chalice while needing 4 gameboy advances linked killed the game for me in Crystal Chronicles, that game deserved to fail miserably

well at least Laguna's bad sides were still perfectly represented if you looked for them. he was very flakey, the shumi tribe who nursed him back to health after one of his many times getting lost(no sense of direction another flaw) said that he tried to teach their evolved form to speak because he believed communication to be important which they said was funny since he sucked at communicating. As shown with Julia he was a shy man at the start and it was probably only the confidence from his night with Julia when he probably fathered Rinoa and a good dose of The Florence Nightingale effect with Raine that led him to start a relationship with her. This is shown all the way in disc 3 when he puts off telling Squall that he's his father. Then obviously... he sucks as a father, Ellone kidnapped while he was the towns protector, squall seemingly forgotten about, possibly never knew about Rinoa possibly being his daughter... but very loving as shown with Ellone.
I personally think 8 deserves more of a remake than 9. I'm in a minority of not really liking the characters of 9, the story is decent, though. But there's so much cut from 8
I don't really care for 9's characters, but I like smallpox more than I like 8's. People talk shit about Vaan, but for my money the only protag that even compared to Squall in awfulness is FemSquall, Lightning. At least she said more than "Whatever." though.
I really hope that SE will remaster the XIII trilogy one day.

Zelda Twilight Princess. It's currently avalible on GameCube, Wii, and Wii U, though a HD switch port along with Windwaker HD has been rumored for years. You can also play the GameCube or Wii version via emulation on Dolphin. I recommend the Wii U version as it improved the QoL significantly, but if you don't have a Wii U and don't want to bet on the game coming to Switch you should stick with the Game Cube version as the Wii version inverts the entire world and forces crappy motion controls.

*everyone commenting on how they want more Laguna if there was a ff8 remake* I feel kinda out of place with how I basically share the same opinion of him as Squall did lol. Laguna just seemed like a gag character, and I feel it wouldn't make sense to have more of his story in context of how we are only seeing parts of his life as Ellone was just trying to find a specific time. ie: trying to get him to not try to save her so he would be there for Raine instead of in Esthar.
In a remake of ff8, I would more prefer to see better fleshing out of the main story and the present day world. More character building (and an accurate translation rather than the kinda lazy job we got) and it would also be nice to retcon their background stories as its kinda a lame twist that they all come from the orphanage.
I share the opinion of him that Cloud of Darkness had in Dissidia 012. He was being an idiot as usual, then got his trademark leg cramp, and she just looked at him with the utmost disgust and seemed offended that her opponent was so pathetic.
I seriously agree. Laguna is so lame to me. Like Kiros and Laguna are funny at first but then that shit just gets old. Laguna says something dumb. Kiros points out how dumb he’s being. Rinse and repeat. Shit makes me snore.
The Laguna story reduction was probably even worse than all that, there is a possibility that what Laguna was going to tell Squall, that he mentions just before the offensive on the enemy base at the end of disc 3, was that he couldn't be with Rinoa, who there are indications of being Laguna's Daughter, Squall's half sister. As well as obviously Squall's own parentage. To keep this short their age difference is exactly the difference between when Laguna was one drunken night with Julia and when he started his romantic relationship with Raine.... past that you have Rinoa's similarity to Laguna and the abruptness of Julia and Calloway getting together right after Julia was probably informed of Laguna's misreported KIA status. Rinoa's fight with Calloway right after julia's death also ended in her starting to use her mother's maiden name and her fight against her home country, suggesting he might have told her he did the gentleman thing and helped her mother out.

Nah, it's the fucking hallways amirite, it's not like jrpgs tend to be more linear compared to... I don't know, The Elder Scrolls? Fallout? which are a completely different playstyle beyond the combat, as well as a distinct scope. 2022 and I still have to explain the difference to some people...
It not like Open Worlds tend to be far more demanding from the very inception of the game, requiring full dedication to make those worth it rather than slapping a huge (and empty) map and call it a day either.
P.D. If you're next coming up with the minigames bullshit, save it, by your own argument of popularity, most people avoid them (hint: jrpg minigames tend to suck).
It's amusing that you're using "content" correctly and strictly here, seeing as how people refer to that word in whole-production contexts. If that practice goes on long enough, your contextual use will shrivel up and become forgotten, and knowing how new generations work, they'll make up a whole new fucking word for the concept.
