  • Last week I brought home a fairly solid Swinger that had been forgotten under a car cover for 14 years and needs a LOT of TLC.

I posted on another one of your videos. 74 Scamp.
All of them starting at 75 sucked because of the pollution stuff. But now they are all good!
I drove a 69 Dart Custom 270 2dr ht for 10 years. Bought it with 110k for $50 from a local garage. Car had NO rust! It was like brand new! Needed an engine. Put an engine in it and ran it to 247K when it died due to an accident. Someone ran a stop sign and I hit em at 50 mph. That car never broke a torsion bar or a shackle. Best car I ever owned!

Tyler, like you, I have an appreciation for the in-line 6 cylinder cars. They have adequate acceleration for many people. There are some performance upgrades available for the slant-6. I appreciate their economy and the extra space under the hood for servicing. I would love to find an early to mid 70s Dart or Valiant with slant-6, factory AC and automatic transmission. I don't have a problem with manual windows and door locks. I grew up with them. Keep up the good work!

I’m convinced vinyl tops were introduced to save money on bodywork and paint. Underneath you will find unpainted sloppy Bondo on all the body seams.

One of the last questionable cars I purchased had the AC lines ripped out because it stopped working, and also the rear wiper arm removed because the washer didn't work!! The wiper did but it just wouldn't wash the rear screen due to a faulty pump, so the logical solution of course was to remove the working wiper and do away with the whole thing. Some people are nuts!!

Green was huge in that era for cars. I had a 1972 Ford LTD in that color.

Not a bad looking Dart Swinger. When I started selling Mopars in 1975 we had a few of these that were leftover 75 models going into 1976. I recall one in particular that was a light green car with 318. Not overly equipped except for radio, AC and Auto trans. It was the last 75 we sold new.

Neat! This one had a Scheduled Build Date of September 19, 1975, which should have put it into '76 production, but was actually assembled August 29th.

Did you guys ever get a Dart Lite? I heard that this special car had a Duster/Dart Sport body, 4 speed overdrive, and got phenomenal mileage. It was supposed to be the among the last of the iconic A Bodies prior to full ramp-up of the Aspen/Volare.

  • @jamespn

Looks like a high trim level Dart with A/C, vinyl roof and light package, body side moldings, full wheel covers, remote mirror deluxe vinyl interior and steering wheel, Metallic browns and greens were common on these 70s A bodies. The parcel shelf was butchered up, too bad you don’t have a speaker board parcel shelf cover in green.

Hi Tyler! Im glad this car is in your possession. It is in the right place. That fuel miser light is really cool, and not Dex Cool. I guess these folks used unleaded gasoline if the cat is still installed. That green color was very popular in the 70s on cars and major appliances, etc.

    • @MisterMikeTexas

In that shade? I thought avocado was the most popular green in the 70s.

Love that color green! Those later 1973-76 A bodies are basically the same vehicles as the earlier ones they just don’t have street cred with low factory net hp. ratings and fat crash bumpers. Kind of like how late second gen. Camaros got no love until recently. Same thing is happening with these now! I think this car is a good candidate to revive and preserve on. As far as getting parts I think 74-76 may use same bumpers so better than one year only 1973 A body bumpers (like my 73’Duster, Dart-Val stuff too maybe?) . Only issue might be the lack of parts cars with all of these new millionaire RUclips car hoarders in the Tenn Valley area hoarding up all of the 70’s stuff. There’s at least one of them has at least 50 cars parked on the back 40. Never seen him finish a project either but always sucking up more cars with that RUclips money and doing videos dragging them around the property. Wish the internet was around when I was 25😄! Who knows maybe ole Dexcool will need some parts from you one day, bet he would find a way to get in touch with you if he needed something.

I like the green . I remember them stick on clocks , there was one on the 74 Duster I have .. as a kid I remember going to swimming lessons in it . As for what you sold and paid for the cars.. I have no idea. 15 years ago I’d say it was a 500$ car.. but now.. maybe 3k .

My parents has a 1973 Pinto hatchback that didn't have a seat belt interlock but did have a seat belt warning buzzer. If you got in the car and didn't buckle your seat belt a light on the dash would come on along with an annoying buzzer that wouldn't go off until you buckled your belt or the buzzer burned out. Our way around that was to buckle the seat belt across the empty seat so when you sat down the car thought you were strapped in.
My guess is 4K for the Dart and 12K for the Plymouth.

  • @MisterMikeTexas

My dad bought a new 74 Nova. The first thing he did was have the dealer disable that seat belt interlock.

Not bad. I like the rant about the A/C. Its kinda not common to find an older vehicle like that with factory AC....but yea, rip it out....haha! I hate when people do that.

If they leave the ac compressor it’s there taunting them that their ac doesn’t work. If they remove it then they just don’t have ac.

I think that you got a good car. All older cars have "issues", you just have to decide if you can put up with them. I think the only thing keeping the spare tire in the trunk is the Jesus Saves plate. I would guess that you paid $5800 for the Swinger.

    • @timothykeith1367

I bought a '73 Swinger with no motor for $400 - but the front frame rails are damaged - been straightened. Has V8 k-frame and curiously a Ford 8 inch rear axle, at first glance looks like an 8 3/4. No rust, last registered in 1982. I saw the Dylon McCool video of replacing rear frame rails on a Challenger, but other than its obviously been repaired I think the front frame rails are safe, it just won't sell for a great price if I put it back on the road. I have a slant six k-frame, might use that, but with a v8 the resale price would be greater. One of the inner fenders is rippled, but I can replace that.

Just kidding. I've seen that type of thing countless times on the internet.

I think you paid 5k for the 75 and sold the 68 for 7k. You're not the First person who I've heard say Dylan isn't that nice to deal with, I think you're not a 20 something and not mainstream enough for him, even though your channel has been around forever, and you are clearly not looking for a handout lol

You are exactly right. I don't begrudge anyone who wants to be a RUclips Star, but it's not for me. I've made my disdain for corporate sponsorships and merchandise-hawking plain. Being a RUclips Star is a JOB. You don't get to slack off on posting videos or make videos about peeling the foam off of seat frames, lest you have a DROP in views. It sounds a bit selfish, but what I do with cars is for my own entertainment first, then hopefully you guys get entertained. I got an enjoyable phone call with someone ended abruptly because "Dylan was calling", but that's ok. Everyone needs a hero I guess.

@@TylersNeighborhoodGarage - That’s what it all used to be about, Tyler. No one really did RUclips for the fame or exposure; it was a hobby of ordinary people making random videos and interacting with people with similar interests.
      And it was fun.
Virtually all of that is gone now. RUclips bowed to corporate interests and the algorithm actively discriminates against regular content creators. If anyone disagrees, post a video and watch how quickly it disappears from the search function.
Never heard of this DexCool guy, but if his Chevelle video is any indicator, he’s a corny wannabe comedian like most RUclipsrs these days who focuses the attention on himself almost as much as the car/topic at hand. No, thanks.
Maybe your style of video-making isn’t as popular anymore (according to a horribly altered algorithm at least), and you and I have had our disagreements, but I’ll be here watching you and other “regular” folks until this site is no more.

@@TylersNeighborhoodGarage When the channels start "flexing" and saying I spent 100k on this, or look what I bought.. bragging and such that's when I turn off, the whole I'm better than you attitude is offputting. I have tried over and over to get into Cleetus, and I can't, same with WhistlinDiesel. They spend half the video trying to sell Ball shavers and get other people to do the work for them, and lost the way their channels started. I have been subscribed to your channel since probably the beginning, I'm always entertained, and you have lost more knowledge on Mopars then I've learned. I used to love Derek at VGG yet lately he is going down the same route, don't care much for his freedom factory videos and he's pushing the sponsorships as well, albeit he is known as being a great guy and easy to talk to and deal with unlike some of the others.
I know I met David Freiburger 2x and Finnegan and Dulcich once each at events and they were super down to earth, and although they have become quite famous they were more than happy to sign anything and talk to anyone that wanted to talk
