I suppose that's about the same as the Eldar with their Warp Spiders, Fire Dragons and Swooping Hawks whos sculps have not changed since 2nd edition. 35 years old. The big difference though is how easily you can Proxy in those models with stuff from AoS, like Daughter's of Khaine and Crypt Horrors.

The outriders having gaps is due to the push fit design of the models. the parts comprising the 2 halves of the bike have cylindrical pegs that goes inside cylindrical sockets. If you put a lot of glue on either the peg or the socket, it gets trapped inside the socket and compressed by the cylinder. Eventually there's a limit to how much the glue can be compressed so when you set the model down to go build something else, the two halves separate. The easiest fix for this is to trim down or clip off the pegs entirely, leaving no gaps.

@@boredmagala5701 It's only one arm, it doesn't explain it in the instruction booklet, but if you want to build the spanna with a rokkit launcha or big shoota you need to use a spare arm from the ork boyz kit. It's perhaps one of the other reasons GW kept the old ork boyz kit around, since it would doubly suck for lootas and burnas to have a weapon option restricted to an OOP kit. However the upside to the loota/burna kit is that the unit options don't share any parts, so if you get some spare ork bodies, you can make up a whole unit of burnas if you built lootas from the kit or vice versa.

So the Ork Kommandos were the first 40k Model Kit I ever built and they were horrible to put together due to their parts being spread across three different sprues. I had built other plastic models (Gundam) before and this initially put me off 40k a bit. Thankfully other models were not as bad in that regard. However, just recently I had a similar experience with the Night Lords kill team. I understand that the base of them is a regular CSM Legionaries kit, but they also have parts all over the place for individual miniatures, but at least similar parts are grouped together (e.g. all the backpacks are together).
I guess though this could be helped if GW had a sensible numbering scheme on their sprues, where parts were numbered according to location on the sprue, rather than according to when they show up in the instructions.

Ork players and kitbashing seem to go hand in hand generally (al least I do) so the extra work to get a unit doesn't really bother me, it's having to get another old boyz kit if you run out of parts. But the push fit pegs, ffs, they barely fit together dry so forget about putting any glue on them. Or just cut them off and assemble the kit like a normal miniature, it works better. Everyone can say what they will about the old boyz kit but nothing about their assembly made stop and think "Wow, this is shit!"

eldar grav tanks. the falcon is the same kit that originally came out in 1997, it literally doesn't even have all the weapon options the falcon can take in the rules. for both the main body and upper turret, there's a pilot inside a cockpit, and the pilot glues into place and holds the hinge for the clear plastic cockpit glass. the way all these pieces fit together, you basically have to fully paint and varnish everything before you can finish assembling the model fully, because you won't be able to get a brush in there afterward. and then once you do that, the parts will not quite perfectly fit together (because the kit is so old) so you'll end up having to fill some gaps with green stuff or plastic putty, and then you'll need to re paint those areas where you dod that. combine all of that with the fact that it has a million weapon options that you will probably want to magnetize because of the insane rules churn in this game, and the fiddly flight stand it sits on... gorgeous models, but so much work to finish.

Pretty much all of the modern monopose million parts kits are awful. We used to have a simple system for posing and parts, and that was arms, head, body, legs, and extras. Now it's left lower leg, back of torso, head (attached to right arm), right half of jaw, left lower arm, upper hand attached to gun, left hand attached to gun, right leg attached to waist, etc.

You could have numbers 1, 69, and 420 together. But these were different parts for different models - i.e. Head from model A, leg from model C, and some random dangly bit you could optionally glue to model D or G. Some nice flashbacks to my old hobby days with this. Used to LOVE putting together the 20 Catachans you got in the box. Everything being a separate piece did often lead to some odd poses you might have to redo once you see it all together. Would love to see them redone and scaled down slightly similar to what the Cadian range looks like now.
My pet peeves were certainly flying bases. Every landspeeder I had got broken at some point and ended up sitting on the ground. The old ones were crappy and I've never tested the new. Feels like they need to be a tripod design or something to have more contact points and thus more strength? Magnets certainly a good way to go.
Some of my old pet peeves were things like the old metal models not having bases? Things like dreadnoughts etc. where they were just a huge chunk of metal that easily got knocked over... Anything small and pointy was liable to get broken at some point. While metal wasn't fun to work with, characters were certainly nice.

So his inceptors are actually directly standing on the base now cause he got lazy. And our glue is 'concrete glue' melts the two pieces together for a good fit. And now it's not as top heavy cause of that as a strange bonus.

It was clear that they were very new to the concept of digital design; some some components were designed with compensation for the slight angle (necessary for mold release) of mating parts, but others were a flat and awkward butt joint. Plus, joint tolerances were too tight in some places, making assembly harder. Guiding lugs at the base of the wings especially would have aided construction, if they had made just one change.

*_Space Marines Incestors!_* The normal, Assault, and Hell Blasters. They're just so boring, being pushfit. When there was only one sculpt for all 10 soldiers, it was acceptable - suspension of disbelief, or perhaps they were just all standing uniformly. You could have 30 marines all standing the exact same way and that made sense because they're "in formation".
But there's something wrong when you get the same sprinting posture on 5 or 6 guys. They're supposed to be distinct from each other, but that makes the problem _worse._ On top of that, we've had far more dynamic and customisable Tactical Squads since 1998!
And I know that Necron Skorpekh Destroyers, for example, only have three scuplts. But you can make them run "in formation" by making it look like each unit is in part of the same protocol, just at different stages. Either give us open customisation or give us uniformity! I 100% agree about Necron Flayed Ones being one of the worst kits to assemble. I own 12 Outriders across my 3 SM chapters and half of them had those annoying gaps on the top of the bikes.
I don’t own a Dropship but I’m familiar with the difficulty of a vehicle model with opening/closing doors: The Land Raider! The first one I built (Redeemer/Crusader), it took me multiple tries to get the assault ramp doors working. I had to pull the vehicle apart MULTIPLE times to get the mechanism to work properly. Fortunately, I used plastic cement instead of glue so the parts came apart without anything breaking and the cosmetic damage to the plastic was internal and hidden.
Also, magnetizing the Land Raider’s sponson weapons and side panels was challenging. I wish GW included the extra parts to make two pairs of sponson turrets that can be magnetized into the side panels, instead of having to magnetize the guns and side covers. Also, the sponson guns’ swivel function is inconsistent; one is loose and swivels too easily; the other is tight and is difficult to swivel.
I’d also say that ALL repulsor-type Space Marine vehicles are tedious to assemble because of all the parts in their repulsor panels. Tracked vehicles are much easier to assemble and don’t require bases.

Khorne Bloodletters absolutely suck as well.
You need to glue both legs and the torso together seperately which can cause massive gaps in such small models

The Metal Land speeders were a pain due to being top heavy & was kind of a loose loose at times if you either glued it to the base or having it placed on the stand

Flight stands have always been my bane. I would like to know what joker thought a Fire Prism with heavy metal bits on the top of the model could fit well and be supported by a tiny plastic peg. All my recent builds use aftermarket clear acrylic rods and magnets.

Noise Marines - They startes out as the only cult unit that was just an upgrade sprue for the regular CSM more than 20 years ago. Today they have that same upgrade sprue as Finecast, split into two seperate packs, for an old CSM box that is no longer available while the miniatures in the new box are too big 😢

I just got done building my first Trukk the other day. It is equal parts fun and frustrating to put together due to how much of the model doesn't quite fit together like it probably should. Half the model is also barely held together with small amounts of glue so that I can take the thing apart at a future point to paint it.
I also was about ready to punch the designer of the Kommandos sprue in the face for the absolutely atrocious layout of all the pieces back when I was building them. It would have cost GW nothing to renumber everything more sensibly before sending the plans off to get the mold made.

It actually fits together pretty perfectly... that said, I would be really careful when you are trying to detach and reattach. Those trukks do not appreciate being handled. Period. Signed, Orks player with 4 of them. P.S. I would take photos at every angle of it assembled before you start taking it apart so that you know exactly how it looked in the "Before" & where existing gaps were so that you don't get too frustrated trying to put it back together again. P.P.S. the ladders are a PITA to re-glue. Good luck!

Death Jester. His back piece required a lot of pressure to get it to click into place. I swore it was going to break… everyone online seemed to have the same issue, some even having snapped the part.

The worst mold line I’ve seen since getting back into the hobby 4 years ago were on the Tau pathfinder kill team. After building modern kits going back to an older kit was rough. GW really has improved their quality over the years.

Bit of a deep cut memory here, but nothing will ever beat a Warhammer Fantasy game, and seeing a proud Slann Mage-Priest being taken into battle on top of two cigarette boxes, his Saurus bearers flanking their new nicotine-chariot.
My friend had tried ungodly amounts of superglue, but the internet was only just becoming a thing, and we had barely heard of pinning.
It was actually a decent model though for the times.
It was around then of course that we also got the original Abandon the No-Handed.

The one thing I run into are where they decide the spru should go. I don’t mind sanding the nubbin but my lord some kits you can’t even fit the slimmest of flush cutters in to snip them. The worst is delicate pieces on push to fit sprus. I get that they are made to be removed without cutters but often times this is impossible without cutting at least one nubbin free.

Myphitic blight hauler, it's push together kit and it never fits together properly. Ended up removing the pegs and glue it together as it was easier

Tip for flight stands that works well for me at least-cut down the flight stand and have the flying model with both feet on the ground and the flight stand at the back-this gives you a sort of tripod mount and makes them a lot sturdier at the expense of having to have them be mid-landing. That said I'm not sad that they're starting to be replaced.

All those kits where most of the weapons you can use aren't even in the box. I know they are kinda trying to remedy that in a very halfassed way by adapting the rules to certain kits, but in many cases it just would't work and would RUIN those units. Some examples: Drukhari Scourges who only have one of each weapon. Havocs who only have two and just one Reaper Chaincannon. Chaos Legionaries who don't have Lascannons and Reaper Chaincannons in their box AT ALL, although the Kill Team at least has one Reaper Chaincannon now. And despite the changes to Crisis Suits, you STILL can't build a full Sunforge unit and only mixed weapon Fireknifes/Starscythes units with what's in the box. I'm currently updating my CSM army with a couple of more Legionaries and the amount of proxying I have to do...oh boy...
Buildingwise, old Kroot Hounds were a nightmare. Those sprues were so bad, it almost felt like you actually had to cut the rough shape of the hound out of a block of resin.

I still find it really sad in a weird way, that they seem to be going with less and less wargear options for minis. Like the Cadian Shock Troops are pretty nice on paper, but if they had changed the builds a bit more and allow backpacks to be separate and throw in another sprue of weapons and maybe alternate legs, you could easily get a Cadian Troops Set so you can make shock troops or infantry based on what you want to do.

My god Paragon Warsuits from the Sisters range is needlessly complicated and really feels like a lot of those tiny ass pieces could just be together on the sprue for less pieces.
