- The first Blitzball game in the story can be rather difficult, but if you follow these easy steps, you should have no problem winning.

I recently started replaying this game and....holy shit, 33 year old me did not remember this segment -- nor the frustrated rage. 2 days and a whiskey later -- I have my victory thanks to you. May you bask in the knowledge that you have saved countless consoles, controllers, and television sets with your video. I bow in humble gratitude.
There's an easier way than what this video shows. Take tidus and jassu to the bottom of the map and spend the first 5 mins passing back and forth and tidus should grow 2-3 levels as well as jassu and then you'd be able to use jassu to help get 3 easy goals in the 2nd half
Same here...same age basically lol. Am currently stuck on this part again because there is just no way I am letting those Goer pricks crush Wakka's dream. Wakka is a nice guy....and he gets to have fun with Lulu's fun bags every night lmao so that makes him cool shit too.
@@chazrooks4681 that is way safer since if the opposing team happens to score (and most likely they will) you will have to reset if you're going for the first strat
@@rubemevangelista3868 Nope. the one shown here is not the best or safest because there is too many RNG to play with. They might score a goal or they might pass around hence u still need to reset. There also a possibility that they score after you score hence you still need to reset. The leveling up method is much better and safer especially when u have auto save for FFX remastered.
This is mainly because, once you start the match, make sure u get the ball. Else, reset.
Once u win the the 1st ball with Letty, change the setting to manual A.
Then pass the ball to Tidus. Trigger the battle with Abus by using square and take the tackle.
Once he got tackled(he will definitely keep the ball because Abus tackle is too damn low), run to Jassu.
Once reach, pass to Jassu . Once Jassu get the ball pass back to Tidus. Move towards the place where Jassu start in the match each time u pass among the 2. This is mainly because, only Abus will come to tackle if u pass around there. Graav will not come to u if u pass it there.
Once the time end, u will definitely get more than 2 or 3 level. The same with Jassu.
Now, for the second half, make Jassu the midfielder instead of Letty. If you are playing with a version other than remastered, you can tackle Graav by using this, you might or might not won the ball but in case Graav try to breakthrough, chances are, you might win the ball more than not. But If u use remastered version, just reset until u get the 1st ball.
When u get the ball, pass it to letty as soon as the game start. swim near the line and trigger the battle with Abus. U will definitely win it.
Without Jetch Shot
After that, just pull the opposition towards u.
If u swim towards the line but at the side of the opponent, both graav and balgerda will move to u. dont let them reach u, and just pass to tidus.
Move Tidus near the goal and just shoot with sphere shot. u will definitely score as ur shooting will definitely higher than them.
With Jetch Shot
Once u win with Abus, pass to Tidus and make Tidus swim towards the goal. Once you are near enough, just shot with Jetch shot.
*I prefer Sphere shot instead of Jetch Shot because, you might or might not score the 2nd goal with Jetch shot because of the animation, but with Sphere shot, It is more likely than not for you to score 2 or even 3 Goals. You might also opt to score with normal shot if you get high enough level.
*You can also can use the time wasting method while using this method because, you have a higher possibility winning the ball by tackling Graav as Jassu has a higher attack.
Never understood how Graav was stronger in every way then Tidus was back when I played the game when clearly Tidus was a superstar already his stats should’ve been light years better then everyone on either team.

This minigame have serious issues with the mechanics and it just lacks a lot. No wonder Wakka quitting blitzball because of how bullshit it was.
It's not, the game is stacked heavily against you in the beginning by design to give that "underdog" feeling, the second you recruit players, it becomes a cakewalk.

@@sekaikage I think it's less the mechanics, and more the stats they give you because it makes it unplayable unless you do some weird jank like this video shows, but if you actually have decent stats the mini game is actually pretty fun

You can't skip scenes but it is really easy to win. Just get the Jecht Shot and be careful. Not more.

@@fawkurface46 I actually beat them like an hour after I replied to this. It really is all about hiding behind your goalie and then making sure jecht shot is equipped for the second half. Try to get tidus as close to the goal as possible without having more than 2 defenders on you unless you have 3 and can break 1 leaving 2, then use jecht shot. If it’s just 2 defenders choose “no break”, shoot, jecht shot. I can post the video of me doing it on my channel if you want. I’m not gonna lie, it’s a stars align kinda thing, but You can do it though for sure

Don’t be an idiot and bring the whole team with you. Instead lure them away from Tidus first.
Most of my shots are 1v1. Most of my engagements are 1v1. Even in the first half you have a better than 50% chance of a successful breakthrough when dribbling and engaging the top defender.
Basically you want to breakthrough high energy Vs low attack
You want to pass high pass Vs low block.
If you get the ball lure them towards your net and buy time for Tidus to get close to the net. Then pass it to him before any defender gets close enough to engage. Then charge and try to break through and take shot. With 11shot and 8 save you will score if close enough and if not you probably have 50% chance of score.
I will never forget leaving the entire Blitzball game on auto instead of manual and actually having my team crush The Luca Goers. I remember saving over my file 10x literally in a row afterwards knowing I was finally out of this accursed tournament.
From this minigame, I realized square enix does not want player wins the game. This minigame is harder than beating final fantasy 7,8,9 last boss, if you ask me

Are you comparing fighting a boss after 50+hours and completely mastering the games mechanics, and a fun minigame that is optional and is thrown at you in the first hour of the game to which you have absolutely no preparation for? Also a winnable match if you use your head, and jecht shot.
FF7,8,9 final bosses are super easy so that's not saying much.
I've only wanted to win that match so the Aurochs finally win a Tournament. Not because I like Blitzball!

I like Blitzball, but this match is rigged. Sometimes the goers have 9 on Atack and you have 11 on Endurance and they still can take the ball from you and you can't get the ball unless you have at least 3 players attacking the one with the ball

Its actually easy because the AI is dumb and the luca goers have low atk stat. would be harder to win against the al bed or the guado team. Ronso team is so slow you can literally run circles around them. Im pretty sure I could do a better guide than this lol

I was 14 when I played this game for the first time. I managed to get a score of 2 - 2 thanks to Tiuds and Datt then Wakka came in and scored the 3 - 2. I repeated the match so. Many. Fucking. Times! watching the damn cutscene again and again but I already liked Wakka too much and I couldn't let this assholes win and ruin his dream. It felt so good watching the cutscene where he thumbs up to Tidus... I'm 26 now, oh the memories...

You are not supposed to win, however it is possible.
I finished FFX 8 times, and I only lost in my first playthrough as a kid. All you need is the jecht shot, then keep them from scoring. Wish there was more incentive to win though!

Blitzball would've been tolerable if leveling up actually made you better. But since opponents level with you, there's really never any change in difficulty.
This needs a skip option if you go back to load or just make it where you can equip shot off the bat

What a shame that they put so much focus on the offense of this game that they completely forgot the defensive strategy of "doing nothing has no penalties"
I learned that in the first half you can't really score at all. Just keep passing around the ball especially to Tidus, so you guys can level up. Try not to let them score more than 2 goals or 1 goal preferably. I was down 0-2, but came back and won 3-2 in overtime thanks to Tidus' Jecht shot and Wakka's venom shot. It's funny the Auroch's are weak in the first half, but strong in the second half
I made goals in both half times in multiple play troughs, it's not that hard.
Just get close enough and do the jekkt special or later when waaka shows up his shot.
You'll always get 1 or 2 but you can easily do 4 as well
you can score for sure in first half 100% normal shot with tidus without jeckt shot but its hard to keep your defense without receiving goal after
I scored the 1st goal after the 1st run with Tidus......you can do it.
The game is glitchy AF and poorly designed.
After 18 years I finally won my first blitzball game. I just did auto mode and somehow blind luck wakka in overtime managed to shoot a goal successfully for a 1-0 win.

Revenge comes later when you recruit top players and own blitzball. Thing is, the Luca Goers are not as good then. The team to be careful with is Al Bhed Psyches.
Charles Faherty they ain’t nothing without nimrook. And they can still be nothing with him if he has the gamble skill ( at least I think that’s the one that randomized stats potentially ruining him.
@@ultimaterecoil1136 Al Bhed is the hardest in early because of nimrock, but once u get few lvls to spam jetch shot and recruited some good def it's still easy, run around and tidus will goal

Ironically it's the Kilika Beast Players that end up being the best players to recruit at high level (they suck at low level) while al bhed psychs are good mid level, funnily enough the luca goers suck at high level.

Pro tips: the circle around you is also the vicinity of where they connect to you. To have a free pass or shot they have to be out of the ⭕️ circle around your triangle on the map. Use this to position and pass safely. If two or more enter your circle you will generally be stuck. Always keep it moving. Another thing not mentioned is don’t switch coverage types. Just keep it on manual A and normal coverage. This confused me initially the most and is not mentioned often. And finally make sure to exploit the enemy bottom two. They are much weaker. Esspecially the dark skin one Babu or whatever his name is can be brushed off if he’s alone. Jassu can pass well but the key is to get the ball to Jassu, break Babu, then go towards the final bottom guy and feint back to pull him closer and off tidus so he has a clean circle. Then break and pass to tidus or pass if you faked hard enough and try to have that be the main attack plan. The guys at the top of the field are the stars on their side while the bottom two are exploitable.

- 3 fully capable able bodied defenders block Graav's path and all three make make a kick at Graav.
- Despite Graav having one leg, zero eyes in his head and only index fingers on his hands, he manages to elude the three defenders.
- Graav, faces the wrong way and his jaw has now fallen off, he launches a kick, hurling the ball towards the audience along with his gangrenous foot.
- The audience shriek and panic as this rogue Blitzball thunders towards them at a merciless speed.
- The ball for whatever reason, swerves backwards. Interweaving all off the Aurocs who fail to even attempt to intercept the ball.
-and the ball is in the back of the opponents net!
- What tremendous fun this is for the player at home!
- Everyone will love this fucking sport and attempting it over and over again to the point of total frustration.
- I'm really in the mood for some FFX... Wait, that's the one with the Blitzball. Nah, I'll just play Russian Roulette with a grenade instead.
I used a similar trick back in the day. I seem to remember always going behind my own gate, then the opposing team members would all gather on my side of the field. Pass the ball to whoever is closer to the center and rush for the goal as the opposite team tries to catch up. Got through the entire season doing this. Wonder if the same tactic works in the remaster.
After all these years I finally won the game.
It didn't go exactly as planned (won 1-0 in OT) but I couldn't have done it without you!

I followed some steps in the video, but my game turned out differently. In the first half i actually didn’t score at all. Second half I score early with first couple steps, but broke through the 2nd defender (I wasn’t as close as possible when I scored the Jecht shot) 1-0. they scored 1-1, then I ended up scoring again with Tidus (normal shot) mid 2nd half, and it showed him do a cool celebration for like 10 seconds. The Goers then score in the just before the game went into overtime at 2-2. Overtime starts and I end up scoring the game winner with Wakka after repeating the first couple of steps, and then actually breaking through 2 defenders and scoring to win 3-2!!!!!
They fucking scored in the last second I've never been so angry omfg !
What always pissed me off was how they could steal the ball from, even if your En stat is higher than their At stat.
Later when you play enough Blitzball you 10-0 every other team. Blitz-off, shoot, score, repeat.
Also there is a bug in the game when you control the ball and sit in your own goal the opposing team doesn't come after you.
Score once and then sit on the ball. Thank Yevon for no shot clock. lol
I think they may have fix this bug. I tried that with the remastered edition and it didn’t work. I had to resign so just losing because I’m not gonna drive myself crazy doing it

Doesn't work in the HD remaster, you can't sit in the goals. Guess I have to deal with their blatantly cheating bullshit by sitting through the same 10 minute cutscene until my shitty players catch a lucky break.
Sitting behind Keepa worked for me just the other day
This doesn't help when the AI cheat. I had 10 endurance the one person i was blocking had 3 attack, then the second attacked even though they should have been blocking my pass not attacking. Plus i had a clear shot with tidus and two blockers appear even though there were non even remotely near me. I had two blockers and only one blocker took 0 from the shoot, so it went in...had the other block done what it was coded to do, it would have failed.
I finally got a goal, then when wakka joined, they got the ball first and scored a goal and some how got 2 points???? WTF???? 2 POINTS???!!!!!!!!???????? HOW?

wow this strat was so good. I actually wasnt able to camp the goal in the second half cuz they kept getting to me, but i got tons of passes to burn the timer anyways! Thanks for the vid!

I won this game on my first try when I was 7 but it took me over 20 attempts to do it again. I somehow got it to 0-0 and went to overtime, where wakka scored the winning goal

It's rng. But this will work with pretty minimal rng compared to other strategies. You can even see in the video the guy gets lucky when Botta one shots Bickson with a good roll. They would have scored. He got really lucky

Woah! look at keepas legs go! Fun fact: if you put keepa up front as striker he’ll do horribly because his stats are low. However if you are stubborn and keep him there he can get to have the best SHT stat in the game. I think he exceeds every other player in that regard.
I have a totally different method that makes it several times easier to win. It does rely on rng slightly, but not for leveling. Tidus and Datto are your best shooters in this game so you have to rely on them. Basically you get the ball to either of them and rush to the goal by staying at the edge of their side of the pool. Shake off the weaker tacklers first, and then as you get closer to the goal tank one of the stronger tacklers. If you make it through the second block get a little closer to the goal and then shoot. The closer you are, the better your chance of scoring

Yeah I try to do this on the HD version and they either 3-man block Tidus or they shoot from halfway across the field and still outscore me 2-1 every single time. Bullshit mechanics, a shoot stat of 3 still scores when it reaches the 5-score catch of the goalie, yet my normal shots get caught with a higher shoot stat.

Thank you so much for this tutorial! Although it didnt exactly go as planned in my part. Resetted 2 times. And in my 3rd try after Wakka rejoins, Graav would go all the way through the back of our goalie many times though fortunately i forgot the name has higher endurance, and I would repeat on dribbling each time he comes for until the end.
You can just win playing keep away and score with Wakka's venom shot. You don't need Tidus to win. It is easier though.

Got it in my first try. I was about to lose hope since graav tackled me while I was waiting behind the goal at 4:53 remaining in 2nd half. and every possible action would make me lose possession. Thankfully time ran out just before they could score. wheeeww. hahahahaha 0-1 just as you showed. Thank you so much :D
Worked perfectly, thank you so much. Just in case, I don't know for sure but I think you have to do the ball kicking minigame on the boat before arriving in Luca successfully to get the Jecht Shot.
I did exactly this. Only problem was they actually scored after I scored with Tides jecht shot.
I actually won the first Blitz game once through careful reading on the mini-game manual. It looks like a mess, but actually quite understandable and easy. Try to predict the enemy movement and do your best to have only one enemy blocking your path at each time to conserve all point energy.
Breaking and dribbling 1 guy is always superior to having to deal with 2 blockers.

I finally did it guys! Beat them 2-1! I put tidus on their goalie (then wakka if you go into overtime) and put your Ld and Rd on Abus and Bickson. This was the only time I've been able to beat them! Hope it helps someone else!.
There should have been optional things to do at this part of the game instead of forcing you to play. Same with 9 and the card game.
I know lots of people hated Blitzball-- not me! I loved it more than anyone who played the game. I never used this tactic but managed to win anyway. And I played it a ton throughout the game. It got too easy to win every game with 10+ goals, so I would switch out good players for bad ones just to keep it challenging. Most underrated minigame ever, and it could have been even better with some adjustments to the programming.

I got it for my birthday. It was the first RPG I really enjoyed as a kid; I got better than my brother! This first game and the Bevelle cloister of trials I always needed help with though. 😂 My dad is wonderful at math and loves Blitzball so I may have him over this weekend to relive the glory days if I can’t crack this. 😅

Finally after all this years...feels good to finally win .
When on offense, pass to the bottom right player (when looking at the radar) Swim along the bottom towards the enemy goal. You will encounter their front player just over halfway. Either break to them or pass past them to Tidus who should be about 3/4 to the enemy goal already. With Tidus, move as far as you can toward the goal, while avoiding having 3 enemies in the encounter. 2 or less is perfectly fine with Jecht shot. In this match, Jecht shot should score every time with 2 or less defenders. For stats, If you have 10 pass on your opponent has 5 block, their actual block can't be any higher than 1.5 times their block stat (they would be able to block as high as 7, or as low as 2). Same with any stat. The goalie having 8 catch, can stop as high as a 12 sht if it's extremely lucky. Anything higher than a 12 will score every time.

it's legit, but the "9 times out of 10" bullshit is needless and just makes people feel shitty when rng screws them over. which it is much more likely to do than let you win this
damn, I wish id known this years ago, I tried so many times to out score them as a kid, reloading saves over and over again
even doing this method it took me 50+ tries of exiting and reloading my save playing on the PS2 and rewatching all the cutscenes to finally win the game :P

I managed to score once during the first half through SOME kinda luck, but the Goers went and 1-upped on me at scoring 2 points in the last minute in of first half
then with Wakks it made things possible, but like they really do give you "bottom of the barrel" points to work with x. x

I lost this match the very first time I played FF10 like 17 years ago. Then I replayed it about 7 years ago and won on the first try. Now I'm about to play it for the 3rd time and I'm hoping I can win again in 1 try. Wish me luck!

I KEEP GETTING 4 PEOPLE ON ME and my EN is so low and their AT is so fucking high that breaking won’t do shit.
BlackSilhouette hug the walls of the pool that way you only get a max of two people attacking you at once. Going down the center is suicide unless you have someone with not only high endurance to take tackles but with tackle slip to boot to dodge them. Two luring away people to then pass to tidus and get him past the offense means he gets a straight ride to the enemies defense and if you know how to dodge the players you should be able to get right next to the goal before jecht shot which will take out both members of the defense. I have literally never had trouble with this usually only taking at max one retry because defense didn’t stop them from scoring.
BlackSilhouette you should literally never have 4 people attacking you at once unless you are horrible at blitzball or are just trying to show off how overpowered one of your players is to a friend that even the entire enemy team cannot stop them from scoring. You just suck.
Having the jecht shot is a MUST!!
I either (1) can't manage to get hold of the ball at the start of the first half and they score straight away; or (2) manage to get the Jecht shot for the second half and get jumped by 2 or 3 people at the goal, and then Wakka comes on. FFS
just play manual and use letty from middle head left field as you go in balgerda will chase you bait her when she gets passed by tidus pass the ball to him by now abus will be the one guarding you letty's EN is enough to break pass abus. pass it to tidus and head straight to the goal then use sphere shot easy. If you have completed the jecht shot mini game once you get the ball pass it to tidus graav and balgerda will be the one chasing him they will be denied by the jecht shot and easy goal for you.
I love blitzball, it played all the time after every chapter in the game. But I never thought of starting a new game to try and beat the goers the first time around. Neat
This is so damn stupid. Whoever was sitting in the meeting and had this awful idea for this blitzball needs to be beat to a pulp. Fed a Phoenix Down and beat again by each member in the meeting room.
3step:
1. Learn jecth schoot before the tournament start
2. Grind exp for tidus as first half by just short pass with nearest member
3. Equip jecth shoot and lure enemy into back row then long pass to tidus, move tidus as closest to the enemy goal post then use jecth shoot
Grinding doesn't seem to be necessary. As far as I can tell, Tidus is one EXP away from level , so all he needs is one pass and he's golden.

This match is easily winnable even the legitimate way as long as you do the tutorial and understand the mechanics of the game.
I adopted a fully offensive strategy focused on passing back and forth while no enemies are nearby until the ball gets to Tidus. Then I rush the enemy goal, break through a person and shoot.
I scored once with normal shot in the first half, and another time with jecht shot in the second half. Finally I used Wakka and kept firing venom shot until I scored a third for a final score of 3-1~
BS its RNGesus. The Goers can quite literally score every time they touch the ball if their AI isn't goofing all over the place. Whether you win or not is based on how often the AI chooses to shoot.
@@andthekneesofbees That is just not true, there are only two players on the Goers capable of scoring against keepa, both of whom have low endurance versus defenders like Jassu who have high attack. Especially in the second half, if you have the ball, you need to literally try to not score when Tidus has Jecht shot.

Beginning at 13 minutes in this video you see me playing the game on my first try with no cheating tactics, I am always fully attacking them and scored three goals, one with a normal shot by Tidus, one with Jecht shot, and one with Wakka!

Not a bad strat. This first game is the hardest. But a lot of frequent stops and careful monitoring of the minimap-ie pulling players away, should make this game doable in most cases with decent luck

Then i make a draw with the Venom Shot of Wakka and win in Overtime. First time of my life that i win a Bliztball game !
I recently played this first game in a playthrough and managed to get a goal with Tidus and then Wakka too! 2-0!
I tried doing this but then walks came in first thing and I somehow won legitimately on overtime. Also I got extremely lucky on my third try because I got an autosave right as the game started. Took me about 15 tries. Honestly even though I wanted to tear someone's eyes out it was kind of fun and satisfying.
Saw the title and immediately went to USE JECHT SHOT

This is actually the worst tip possible as it play a lot around RNG. Its better to use Leveling method as its more solid and safer.
