    Yes it's kind of a common theme with them. The gothic sound. But in reality those guys were really funny. They kind of poke fun of that whole genre with their lyrics and stuff. Black number 1 is a song about a Gothic chick who dyes her hair black to fit in to the gothic scene LOL. And unfortunately the lead singer Peter Steele has passed away years ago.

    • @Acidbather
      @Acidbather 7 лет назад +5

      Enslaved by Vegetables I've always thought it kind of funny that so many people reference this song as being such an amazing gothic song when they were really kind of poking fun at the concept and just ran with it.

    I miss him so much. Type 0 was always a favorite. I could make you a list a mile long to check out as far as live performances etc. Peter was a complex guy, but I knew him for awhile and always kind to me. Sarcastic/self deprecating humor that was off the chain. Major loss not just personally, but to music and the world. Anyway, please do check out more of their music. I have my favorites, but some are quite long and probably wouldn't do well as a reaction video. I'm sure those commenting will give you good advice on what to react to. Please do give them a proper listen, because they did some beautiful music together.

    May Peter Steele rest in peace. He was such a beautiful soul. Struggled with clinical depression his whole life. Loved too much. Hurt too much. He left some truly gorgeous music behind. PLEASE go back and listen to their entire discography. The man will steal your heart I swear. He was a true poet and artist and a huge influence on me...

    They are quite gothic with the dark vampiric and romanticism that's prominent in their songs. The lead singer unforunately died in 2010, which was very sad. He's known for his unique baritone voice and vampiric effect in general with the eye rolling and due to his tall stature (he was 6ft 7). A lot of the songs he wrote about addiction, loss of loved ones, and romance and it really all comes together nicely to fit the gothic aesthetic of the band. I'd recommend Christian Woman by them where you hear him sing really low notes in the chorus :)

      Harambe the Sweet Prince I heard Christian Woman, back in 1997.
      I lived in Pasadena, CA, back then; that was the very first time, that I've heard of Type- O Negative, & I went to Poo Bah's Record Shop, looking for the album that held that song.
      Slow Bloody Kisses was the name of the album & I've been hooked on them since.
      Okay, Pete Steele was a hardcore badass.
      I've met him, in back of Slim Jim Phantom's Poker Room.
      That night, Type-O had Tairrie B, & her band Manhole, open up for them, but they cancelled at the last minute, because of an emergency, in their immediate family.
      We talked a bit, but he really turned out to be a really cool dude.
      Sad to hear that he passed away, but his haunting style of singing, as well as his dark etheral vocals & lyrics, & his bass playing, will be felt by all of his fans.
      Now I'm going to listen to T.O.N.'s Christian Woman, lol.
      But Petrus "Pete" Steele may be gone...but him & his band will never be forgotten. 🤘✌

    If you can you should do "Love You To Death" - Type O Negative/ They are usually gothic metal (probably the epitome of the sub genre, along with Paradise Lost) but they incorporate all rock genres into the mix. They have covered Neil Young and have toured with Pantera back in the day.

  • @starburstppl
    @starburstppl 7 лет назад +5

    Saw them live! Peter Steele looked like a giant on stage, (standing at 6'8"). As the frontman for Type O Negative, Steele was known for his vampiric affect, towering stature, rich bass-baritone vocals, and a dark, often self-deprecating sense of humor. His lyrics were often intensely personal, dealing with subjects including love, loss, and addiction. Type O Negative was an American gothic metal band formed in Brooklyn, New York in 1989 by Peter Steele (lead vocals, bass), Kenny Hickey (guitar, backing vocals), Josh Silver (keyboards, backing vocals), and Sal Abruscato (drums, percussions), who was later replaced by Johnny Kelly. Their lyrical emphasis on themes of romance, depression, and death resulted in the nickname "The Drab Four." The band went Platinum with 1993's Bloody Kisses, and Gold with 1996's October Rust, and gained a fanbase through seven studio albums, two best-of compilations, and concert DVDs.
    On April 14, 2010, lead vocalist, bassist, and principal songwriter Peter Steele died, reportedly from heart failure brought on by an aortic aneurysm. Members Kenny Hickey and Johnny Kelly stated in a November 2010 interview with French music magazine Rock Hard that the band would not continue. RIP Peter Steele...

    My fav band! Yes they are a dark, tongue-in-cheek band. Sing about society, girlfriend who passed away, suicide, and also have some humorous songs like "I like Goils" because too many men were hitting on him after his playboy spread:) I've listened to them since mid 80s before they were Type O and called Carnivore. I agree w others there are so many amazing songs but this song fully encompasses what Type-O was about. Lord Petrus Thomas Ratajczyk I miss you so much and will never get over your passing. You guys got me through a lot of tough times and am so grateful to have gotten to see you perform twice. Your loving disciple- BD.

    Type O was one of the truly great, underrated bands that came out in the 90s. Their songs have lots of wonderful little contrasts (vocals/rhythms, uptempo/dark & depressing tones, jokey & sarcastic lyrics/insights into the meaning of life and love, etc.) You can listen to this band for 20+ years and still find interesting little gems in their songs. I only saw them live twice, which now seems like not nearly enough. I miss Peter Steele.

    The genius of Type O was SO overlooked. The way they would change the tempo and feel within a single song much the way the Beatles did on the Sergeant Peppers album. And did it WELL! Seemless.
    One song would feel as if they smashed 2,3 or 4 songs into one!

    Type Of Negative put their music over the silent film Nosferatu. I absolutely love it. Found that gem about 15 yrs ago at a flea market near Athens Ga. It's worth a watch if you're into that sort of thing. You can find it on RUclips.
    Got yourself a new sub. Can't wait for more reaction vids from you. Much love 👻

    I understand that this is one of their most popular & defining tracks, but October Rust is one of the best albums ever made by any band, and anyone wanting to really check Type O out should definitely give that album a listen.

    Type O is in the Goth Metal genre. They take their music very seriously (as all bands do), but don't take themselves quite as seriously. Some of their videos are tongue-in-cheek.

    Peter Kelly the drummer plays for many bands including Mettallica I believe.
    The keyboards while still playing in Tomor his EMT/Paramedic licence. Now that unfortunately TON is no longer around due to Peter Steele aka The Green Man death April 14th 2010. The keyboard player is a full time Paramedic in Brooklyn,NYC.
    The remaining members are all married and have children.
    RIP Peter Steele aka The Green Man 💚🖤💚(the green man was for being a park sanitation worker who wore green and kids named him the green man. He was unforgettable even then due to his height. He loved the outdoors, trees, flowers. He was a very hard worker. Didn't like slackers. He didn't quit his job until October Rust was becoming popular !!
    He loved beinbg outside .

    Type O Negative were really into the Beatles, so much so, that they called themselves the Drab Four... They did a medley of Beatles songs on their album "World Falling Down".

    type o negative is more of a Gothic type heavy metal band. Peter Steele was the vocalist and bass player. pretty unique taste and some of their songs have a dark sense of humor. checkout a band called Danzig, preferably their older stuff, kind of similar in style. good track though.

      Yeah I'm not really that familiar with Type O neg, heard maybe one song of theirs, but the singer's vocal style remind me of Danzig

    this song was actually very tongue in cheek. written about an ex of the singer who dyed her hair using 'black number 1' , you can tell the jokeyness of it during the finger snaps at the end, its the theme to the Addams Family

    Type O Negative has a very dark theme all the time. Not always vampire themed, but Peter Steele did pass away. He sang about a lot of topics. But always had that "gothic" feel to his music. His vocal range was incredible (over 4 octaves) 10000000/10 band. Will always be a legend.
