It warms your heart and affirms your feelings towards whatever is being shared. That's why I watch these.

      A better way to describe metal...good metal at least, is emotion. Sometimes that emotion is anger and aggression, yes. Ok, a lot of times it is. But then there are those times when it isn't so representative of the darker side of human feelings, but is rather something else. Something almost...I don't know, is magical too much of a word to use?

    "Nothing Else Matters" would probably evoke similar emotions. Missing his girlfriend while on tour, Hetfield was talking to her on the phone and was one hand strumming the E minor chords while he talked. He later turned it into a song in which he never intended to be released as he had written it for himself. Lars (drummer) heard it and convinced Hetfield to release it on their next album. One of their "milder" songs but very powerful.

    • @Siorse
      @Siorse 6 лет назад

      Just to be pedantic, not E minor chord, just the open strings. I imagine he had his left hand holding the phone while idly plucking the open strings with his right, hence creating the opening of Nothing else matters.

    • @kushmush8714
      @kushmush8714 6 лет назад +2

      The open strings that he was strumming (E, B and G) are the notes in an E minor chord, in other words an E minor arpeggio. So he's not wrong in saying Hetfield was strumming an E minor chord, it's just that it was arpeggiated.

    As some have mentioned, Cliff Burton, the band's bass player wrote this song. I don't know how good you are at picking out bass from guitar, but right after the part where you got choked up Cliff's basslines start going a little crazy and he starts playing very melodic riffs that sometimes break into the same octive range that the guitar is playing. So, it tends to get covered up by and mixes in with the guitar work.
    I recommend checking out this video with an isolated bass line. This fellow does a pretty good job. At 5:38, the guitar and bass interweave in a harmony before splitting back off for some more solo licks. I feel like this really shows the genius that was Cliff.
    ruclips.net/video/xm6p8g83BvM/видео.html
    *This breaks me up 33 years after the first time I heard it, because Cliff was one of the reasons I learned to play bass, and hearing this makes me feel connected with his spirit. I know you feel that, by your reaction.

    Orion is the name of a constellation that symbols a man with a bow and arrow which means hunter. In eastern culture the astrologs call it "jabbar" and orion got it's name from there. It means TYRANT or oppressor. And if you listen deeply you will find out that it shows the story between the OPPRESSOR and the OPPRESSED. and the ending part is just the endless battle in between.

    RIP Cliff. "Call of the Ktulu" was magic to the ears. I had no friends as a pre-teen other than my guitar., I spent weeks learning that "Ktulu" in my room , I would literally sleep to Ride The Lightning lol. Keep up the great work with an open mind to music :)

    • @haildiscord
      @haildiscord 6 лет назад +2

      +Joseph Miller I think what stuck in my head is not only the moments I spent learning to try and master it, the sound and feel of the masterpiece, but the emotion put into it. I will always think Megadeth a bigger challenge that would piss me off with hand cramps :P
      The greatest is when I actually *DID* learn the song , years later upon meeting my daughter's Mom. They were a music friendly group. Her younger brother loved guitar. We used to play around on that 6 stringed acoustic love. I slowly taught him to play "Call of the Ktulu".
      He finally got it . He was the little brother that I never had.
      He died of cancer a few years ago, taken from this globe WAY too young and too soon leaving a little one behind :(
      This song means much to me not only because I was that long haired dude that had no girlfriend sitting in my room jamming out pretending I was a rockstar in front of the other kids that would make fun of me , but being able to share that art to a fellow metal head that I saw a lot of me in.

    I cried a long with you Pink, and I've heard this track probably thousands of times at this point. The emotion is too hard to deny here. Metal can be some of the most beautiful music ever, when done right. You said it right when you called it a masterpiece, which it is. Metallica were already great, but what made them OUTSTANDING at the time, was the influence of Cliff Burton, his bass and his writing (RIP Cliff). The guy was a pure genius and was a big reason Metallica stood out so much. Not taking anything away from the other members but Cliff was incredible. Listen to 3:21 and 10:40 of this video again, as well as that long intro with the droning sound behind the drums. That was ALL bass, and I didn't know that at first when I became a fan back in my early teens. I figured it was some effect on Kirk's guitar. Amazing, and you can hear the classical influence too, it's not just bluesy stuff.
    There's no lyrics, as it's instrumental, yet you can feel an entire story through the music, and visualize it. That's when you know music is speaking to you. Find the video of Orion on youtube, where someone added clips/pics to go along with the song. There's cool moving images of space for example, which fits with the song being called Orion. Still to this day I think Orion is one of the most beautiful things any Metal band has created. The middle section of Master of Puppets the song, gets me as well. That slow part. It makes me think of life, death, Cliff Burton, and it instantly makes me tear up. We lost a true legend at the young age of 24 :(. Thank YOU for all your videos, and this reaction Pink, it was perfect \m/

      Couldn't agree more. I love the way her facial expressions mirror what I felt the first time I heard this phenomenal track. And I love the simple way she reviews it without any pretension, simply a heartfelt celebration of fantastic music. Peace and love, y'all! xx

    World's BEST instrumental. Period.
    Unbelievably great song on a phenomenal album, by an AMAZING band. These guys are geniuses, genii... whatev', with their instruments. They are talking through them. Yes, there is a story being told in this song. Orion is the mighty hunter in greek mythology and this song depicts the aggression and bloodrush of the paleolithic hunter, then the almost serene interlude when he arrives back to the tribe with his spoils, maybe a bit of sexy time, maybe a bit of drama within the tribe, then back out the next day to face the hunt again. A never ending struggle. Part of all of our pre-history.
    With this song, Metallica proves that they understand, music tells a story that mere words just can't say.
    BTW, Cliff Burton's incredible bass intro in "Damage Inc" is sonic perfection. I could drift for the rest of eternity with that bass intro on loop.

      Paul Walsh Nah, it's really really good but imo doesn't have a chance against the Dream Theater stuff (Stream of consciousness, Dance of Eternity).

    I love your reactions in certain point because it reminds me when I was a kid and I heard for the first time that song. Now I'm 38 years old and listen more Black Metal and stuff like that but the earlys metallica's albums turned me into a metalhead and allowed me give the first steps in metal. Regards from Chile - South America.

    Dearest PinkMetalHead, you are such a doll. I'm a middle-aged white guy in my 40s who grew up on Led Zep and Pink Floyd and consider those bands the ones that made me fall in love with music. I've watched you respond to them and now one of, if not the best, metal instrumentals of all time. Every time I see you react I want to just give you the biggest hug and a big kiss on the cheek (very respectfully of course ;-) ) You're so damned beautiful and real. And.... a nurse to boot (a true carer). Rock on beautiful girl and always keep it real. Love.

    Oh yes my queen, one of Metallica's greats, this song doesn't need words to convey message and emotion. I grew up with this music and the whole Master of Puppets really helped me through so much. To see you react to it like that actually makes me quite happy, you wonderful person you. Metal is not all about anger, it speaks to the soul. Love ya Pink and will always watch for more of your vids.

      Ayrton Senna Fan rip cliff, hey but also rip ayrton senna... I know this isn't an f1 topic, but imagine what he could have done if Imola wasn't the last time we'd get to see him alive. Lewis mentions him whenever possible though... Ok, im done.. Woo metallica. Great reaction video. I felt the same first time I heard this. When people not in the know hear the name metallica they tend to think loud, cacophony, nothing but noise, but alot of metallica songs are composed like symphonies. They're brilliant. You should also try out Tool. You won't be disappointed I promise...
