      I disagree, I’ve noticed Eduard have plateaued, I’m currently working on this kit and it’s irritating in places and plagued with eduards seam problems.
      Their sprue attachment method is aggravating too .The last Eduard kit I built was the Wildcat and that had problems with the engine mounting and with one of my kits a bad fit for the propeller which had nothing to do with builder incompetence, it made me wonder how a new modeller would cope .
      The saving grace is if you can persevere they build into great models .
      This particular P51B has a join along the cowling as per the original but it ends up being too pronounced and will need slight filling . Also there is an annoying seam on the bottom of the scoop .
      I may try one of the Arma Hobby Mustangs albeit in 1/72 and if it’s better I’ll hope for a 1/48 version .
      In the meantime, it’s back to sorting the rear fuselage seam and restoring the lost lovely rivet detail .

      @@Mors_Inimicis problems must be on your side because their FM-2 I've built last time came together so niceley that I actually forgot that it is an Eduard kit... Looks like this P-51 is even better. I agree though that Eduard kits do require some modeling skills because of the pe and delicate plastic parts. Tamiya offers more robust design in certain areas.

    • @Mors_Inimicis
      @Mors_Inimicis 6 месяцев назад

      @@pauka13 With the Wildcat there is nothing the builder can do wrong . The prop fit isn’t secure , I even double checked the instructions but the hole on the prop is too big.
      Their P51B is really nice ( the canopy fit on both is superb) but again the propeller is loose without any outside interference from the builder .

      Closer? Eduard passed them up a long time ago. Tamiya is pure hype, their toys look like toys, nice but toys regardless. They did do well finally adding some PE to their kits, now I wonder who they stole that idea from?

    Nice build, Invasion stripes were painted last minute as to not be discovered by scout planes or spies, this was done with buckets of paint and brushes, mops, brooms whatever they had. Too many times I see folks taping them off for crispness but there's no need, just brush them on like the real deals for a very authentic look. Great video!

    I don't know about you but Eduard are fast becoming my go-to kit manufacturer. Superb detail, lots of part options for different marks (Spitfire MV for example, lots of optional bits mmmmmmm!) I have just built the 1:72 scale Spitfire MKIXc, easily the best I have come across in this scale, amazing surface detail and parts with optional exhausts, cannon barrels, undercarriage legs and so on. The instructions are very nicely produced, clear and well drawn (I am an art-worker who produces instructions for kit companies including occasionally Airfix), the only weakish area are the decals, too much varnish, ie too wide a margin of over-print (again, I produce decal sheet artwork for the industry, tight is right!). Another Eduard kit in the stash is the FW190A-8/R2, what an incredible tooling, it has the armour plate around the cockpit, extra armour glass panels for the canopy sides, optional props, cowl guns and more, all for only £11.99 from Hannants, outstanding value for money (and it's a profi-pack kit too, don't know how they do it for the money. Very much enjoying your build, always a good way to see exactly what the potential buyer is in for, thanks for your efforts.

      Everything I can 100% agree on in that, such superb value for top of the line kits. The decals I am coming to get along with much more now days, seemingly practise does make perfect with them! Many thanks for the comment👌🏻

    A really enjoyable video 👍🏻
    Just finished the first of the Eduard Dual combo and I’m very happy with the result.
    The canopy fit on both is superb and the best I have ever encountered.
    The decals largely behaved apart from a couple requiring judicious touch ups , I did cheat and paint the stars and bars though.
    The only gripes were around the prop fit , if you don’t want to glue it on the prop doesn’t sit flush and can droop slightly. I solved it by wrapping masking tape around the prop stem .
    I
    Some of the sprue attachments were irritating and I do experience problems mating surfaces like fuselages and wings on Eduard subjects.
    That all said , I love this kit and want to build more and it is THE 1/48 P51B to build now . The Tamiya example is still a good example after all these years and good for new modellers but Eduards B is now Number 1.

    I used some of the decals on my Accurate Miniatures P-51B, built as a primer to going into Eduard's, and also left the carrier film on. The only place I've noticed it appears obvious is on the roundel on the invasion stripes. Part of that is my fault for not outlining it, but... Meh. They still look really good and adhered to all the detail quite nicely with Tamiya mark fit strong.
    Haven't gotten my varnish on them yet, so I'm hopeful the carrier film won't be obvious on the finished project.
    And goes without saying: Nice 'Stang! Dallas Darling turned out great.

    Just noticed in your painting technique - the surface detial on Eduard kits is very fine, do you find that the multiple layers you apply smother the details? I noticed myself that, especially on the diddy little 1:72 scale kits, it's best to use very thin paint and not too many layers as the lovely rivet detail can quickly vanish under all that paint. And personally, I am not a fan of the current fad of pre-shading before spraying on the main cammo colour, I always think it looks too generic. I prefer to basically paint the kit as more or less 'factory finish' then use fine pastel powder and brush that into the surface panel lines etc. I then use a little ball of blue-tac to lift off random areas of the powder which looks exactly like the dirty surface a real aircraft would accumulate over time, then spray a light coat of varnish to fix it. Just my preference, we all have our own thing I know!

      Yes sometimes I do think one or two of the details get a little softer, however, when I’m doing the fine work my paint is so thin and at such a low PSI I don’t feel it makes much difference. As you say each to their own, and I really enjoy the fading and different tones of the paint through my own method! But I’m sure your method gives equally as good results👌🏻😉

      Thank you! The exhaust manifolds were painted in Mr Colours Burnt Iron, which seemingly now looks very much like the bare plastic! I assure you there is paint on them. The prop was chipped with some water colour pencils which you can hopefully see in the head on view😁👌🏻

    Did you test how the landing gear covers fit on the wheel wells for in-flight display?

      @@machmodels Well darn, not being able to easily do flaps up is a problem for me. I like to display planes in flight with a pilot. I love eduards other kits. I will have to see how hard it is to do flaps up.

    Thanks.

      Great to hear! In short, beer? Lots of it? Other than that, have you thought about trying to use 3D decals, they usually remove a lot of the tiny details?

    great work but I'm still puzzled why work is put into "modulating" and highlighting wing panels that were not visable?

    • @machmodels
      @machmodels  5 месяцев назад

      Thank you and yes I do understand the concern here, I was unaware of the issue of having a laminar flow wing so the modulation is perhaps a little inaccurate in this regard. Thank you for letting me know!

    Im newish to scale modelling and about to start a Tamiya De Havilland Mosquito kit. It’s my first aircraft build with a detailed cockpit and after some advice/tips
    Do you generally assemble the entire cockpit/subassemblies first and then prime/paint or do you divide it up and assemble after painting?
    And do you use a primer on everything or just large surfaces e.g wings and body etc?

    • @machmodels
      @machmodels  8 месяцев назад +1

      I think the more you model the more you understand how you like to work, for me however I try to assemble as much of the cockpit as I can before I start to paint and when possible I’ll prime most parts.
      That being said it definitely changes a lot between models, if you watch other videos on the channel I might alter my approach👌🏻☺️

    Invasion stripes - I believe they were painted on the actual aircraft with alkali based paint which was NOT weather proof so your use of masking fluid was a good ruse, left a nice rough edge, looks great. Also, when the invasion bands were painted at the start of the invasion period, they were hurridly applied by hand, generally brushed on (ugh!), this left a very rough demarcation between the black and white. It looks ugly and it looks amateurish if you do it on the kit to be honest, just a point to note for authenticity (not sure if Squadron Leaders got them done properly at some point, one has to have standards!)

    • @machmodels
      @machmodels  5 месяцев назад

      Thank you for letting me know! I did have some base understanding of them but I really don’t know a good technique to get them on yet without looking childish as you’ve mentioned! Perhaps oils could work

    If you please allow me a tiny bit of wisesh&tting: would it not be better to mask and paint the insignia and lettering? 😎 No offence, just asking.

    The real challenge of building this kit would be removing all the rivet detail as it is not at all visible on the actual aircraft.

      I used to have this issue! Having a good primer always helped a lot, if you can use lacquers that helps a lot as well! Another trick is putting the masking tape on your hand and ripping it off to get rid of the tackiness!😁
