    I had an uncle who flew the P-51 B , and later the F6D. He said the rubber often wore down on the -D, but it usually wasn't pure wood. He also said the -B floorboard was part of the upper fuel tank, so it was usually the interior color. Either way, your builds are awesome.

I recently had what I thought was a major disaster following a sanding incident with an f35 lighting II and lost some panel lines but looking at reference it was actually better that it happened. Those cracking usually appear after playing the gloss coat over the not fully dry paint underneath.
    Also getting the same effect when you put a heavy gloss coat over the latex kind of paint ( probably vallejo which u use).

    Just watched the section where you're layering on the PE instrument panel with tweezers. I'm on my 6th Eduard kit, and I've found that a small ball of cured liquid mask on the end of a toothpick makes a handy tool for placing small photoetch parts. It's just tacky enough to get it in place and doesn't scratch anything.

    Looks amazing Brett. With regards to the white paint issue you had on the Mustang B flaps… I had a very similar issue on my bare metal Tiger Moth. It happened to yellow acrylic paint for me, it looks like it separates as it drys and results in what looks like cracks. For me, it was caused by applying a gloss clear coat first. Clean forgot I needed to paint some yellow stripes and ended up with an identical issue to you. Could you maybe have had some rogue gloss clear coat on the flaps? Anyway, the pair still make a great addition to your collection. Cheers

    I’d like to see you interview someone from a hobby shop. I am interested in what trends they’ve seen over the years and how the hobby has developed. (That might be a whole show itself.) Maybe they have some funny stories about particular problems hobbyists have brought them, and maybe some interesting solutions to problem hobbyists have shown them.
    It would be also fun to learn something about their business. For example, how the business is different from what they expected. Perhaps ask them what good day looks like and what a bad day looks like.
    Since they are local to you, maybe you could get someone from MRS Hobby Shop.

      Thank you! I'm glad we were able to connect face to face, always happy to stop and chat! As far as gluing onto painted surfaces, in general its frowned upon to do that, but I've found the Tamiya Extra thin I use doesn't have any problem cutting through the acrylic paint. And most of the time, I try not to glue painted surfaces that are supposed to be structural. But overall I don't have an issue using the Tamiya cement on painted surface

    Two Eduard P51s. I think I know a modeller who's a very "Happy Rabbit."
    Hi Brett. They are both lovely but in my mind P51s should be Silver, I know a lot of them (especially R.A.F.) did wear Camo however, my head still tells me they should be silver and wearing American markings. I guess it's down to what imagery you grew up with.
    As for the crinkly white stripes, sorry my old Mucker, haven't got a clue. If it really offends you all I can think of is a very fine sanding stick and make them all look severely faded. Very weird!

    Very Nice builds. I think the white paint cracks are from the under paint not being 100% cured. I’m guessing that cuz I’m doing a base desert diorama for my P-40 that has ground cracks and I read up on how to make crackle paint. But after research I decided to just buy crackle paint at Walmart for under $10.....great video as usual.

    I’m in two minds about coloured photoetch or 3d decals. They look awesome and really improve the detail but I’m questioning myself as to whether it’s actually modelling? What do you think Brett?

    • @HammerheadModelMaking
      @HammerheadModelMaking  Месяц назад

      So, here are my thoughts on the matter. This hobby should be one that is enjoyed by the modeler. If someone gets pleasure out of trying to hand paint every dial and switch on an instrument panel, then all the more power to them. If someone else is going to struggle and get frustrated trying to do the same, and pre colored PE is available, and that provides them less frustration, then go for it. As long has both people are happy with the outcome, then they are both equally valid experiences. I don’t think color photo etch or 3D decals is cheating or “not modeling”. It’s just another tool in the tool belt a modeler can use.

    • @karlcrawford-fz8tz
      @karlcrawford-fz8tz Месяц назад

    Two incredible builds!! I love them! There is one tiny tiny tiny critique and it's really more about Eduard than you, the cut 101 decal. I am sure that was the way it looked on the real aircraft. But on the kit it looks like it was ripped during application. I know it wasn't but it does look that way. Shame on Eduard. That being said next time maybe you can paint it. It may look more realistic. Regardless these two kits are stunning and as always you continue to inspire me. Great work. Full transparency, I am a mediocre builder at best. You are way better at this than I am so take my critique with a grain of salt.

That said, I can certainly understand your frustration and anger and I had a similar reaction at the onset of the Russian invasion of Ukraine. But in my life personally, I am going to try to focus on being a positive force to those around me and those in my community as best I can, continue to share this amazing hobby with others and hope that in the end kindness and empathy will win out over hate and bigotry. If you feel the need to unsubscribe then I wish you the best of luck in your endeavors.
