My 11 year old son has just finished his first solo model, a 1/72 unmarked P51d . A very good first solo! So we watched this video together today and now he wants a second P51d and try to emulate some of your techniques. I think you have inspired my son more than I could ever have! Thank you David for your uploads, best amongst the best on RUclips.

I'm with you on that!... except that I don't have a cold beer... and I do have a wife and kids... and they're at home now, but at least I can sit and enjoy one of David's videos.
I had to pick my jaw of the floor after watching this. I found myself saying "OMG!" repeatedly as David added a new detail, e.g., the wires in the landing gear, the antenna, the invasion stripes, the cockpit details, the wheel wells, the weathering. I don't think there is another person on Planet Earth who can build a model like PLASMO. Genius.
Just a tip with clear parts: if you want a finer polish you can use toothpaste. It has a slight amount of grit in it which is probably finer than anything you can find in polishing compound. I've used it many times on acrylic pieces that I've made. With a buffing wheel it does an amazing job!
Have you ever tried using bicarb of soda? The reason I ask is that I've heard of people using it for oral care as it is even less abrasive than many toothpastes.
I just got done building the same plane but smaller and I did a paint job they would use for shows and I always love coming here to watch plasmo build the same plane but paint it better
Amazing work as always. Couple things 1) those drop tanks were never re-used or taken back to base. they are made from paper and the fuel started eating at the glue the moment it was put in. If they have to abort, they still dropped tanks and it was against regs to land with them. 2) ETO mustangs used the SCR 522 radio set that did not have use and antenna wire. Only MTO/PTO mustangs did. Loved the build! Can't wait until mine arrives!
Seth, as much of a WWII airplane buff as I am, I did not know that about it being against regs to bring the the tanks back. Thank you for that! Of course I knew about the paper tanks.
James Davey The smaller 75 gallon tanks with the teardrop shape were certainly metal. This kit’s tanks represent 108 gallon paper tanks with clear silver doped surfaces. Saved some weight and strategic resources.
Everytime I watch your videos I am really amazed by your skills and how you put the bar to another level. And everytime I am just thinking that I am not a modeller but just gluing plastic parts together....

I really like how you captured the weathering effect chipping the acrylic flat over the natural metal - the tonal difference is very realistic IMO. When you sprayed the layer of Mr Hobby H20 what was it thinned with ? also when you chipped this back with a tooth pick was it done dry or did you use alcohol or acrylic thinner to help loosen the H20 Clear flat to chip easier? I really like the finish you achieved esp the NMF and its subtle weathering - very hard to pull off and you nailed it! Those oil streaks are also on point! Stunning model as always David thanks for sharing can't wait to get mine to build (will be building several)
