    Brings back memories. I flew on the KB-50s, a B-29 fitted with refueling drogues and a J-47 jet engine on each wing. A Frankenstein B-29. Unreliable piece of junk. Sometimes landed with the propeller hanging loose. R-4360 engines were a mess to repair. 56 sparkplugs per engine. Caught 13 on fire just ground testing. The ground crew called me "Sparky". Retired the aircraft the year I was discharged. Great job in making this model - all your models. You are an accomplished artist.

  • @northcoastdyna

    WOW!!! What an amazing build! A suggestion, if I might, you might want to put some chipping and simulated oil stain on the openings where the cowling access covers are removed. In my experience as an aircraft mechanic, these areas wear from fretting and frequent removal. I love your channel! Thanks!

    • @davidharris733
      @davidharris733 2 года назад +2

      Chipping? The B29 came in bare aluminium only, no paint to chip. Stains maybe, but they were expensive birds so they'd be cleaned post ops. IIRC they cost the same as a navy cruiser.

    • @trafficsignalman
      @trafficsignalman 2 года назад +6

      @@davidharris733 The B-29 was around $605,000 per copy in 1944, the Cleveland class cruisers, commissioned in 1942, were $31 million. Amazing aircraft, it was the first to have "flexing" wings, meaning the wing would flex as it developed lift and transitioned to flight.

    • @davidharris733
      @davidharris733 2 года назад +1

      @@trafficsignalman I heard that comparison in a documentary programme. It may have been "The World at War". I didn't bother checking the authenticity, or exactly what class of cruiser was being compared.

    • @trafficsignalman
      @trafficsignalman 2 года назад +1

      @@davidharris733 playing with costs is a fun game, many documentaries like to get the absolutes thrown around to make a bang. No pun intended. I saw The World at War, was pretty good as documentaries go. The B-29 was developed to deliver the nukes from Manhattan Project. The total program cost was $3 billion (1945) which was the most expensive program of the war. The Manhattan Project, which developed Fat Man and Little Boy was only $2 billion. Regardless of the cost or history of the equipment, Plasmo did another great recreation.

    The B-29 is one of my favorite aircraft. I've seen FiFi, one of the only 2 airworthy ones left at airshows twice and I'd gladly go out of my way to do it again.

    You are supremely talented. My grandfather was a Flight Engineer on a B-29 and he was a very detail-oriented man. He would have been thoroughly impressed with your attention to detail on his bird 👍

    I absolutely and unconditionally loved your remarkable job with the B-29 Flying Fortress !!! Congratulations on taking care of so many details which, in the end, will hardly be visible...Thank you for your mastership. Laurent from France

    Wow, what a beast of a kit. What really amazes me is all the improvements from basic lead wire and plastic to resin made tires, bombs and rivets. Just wow 👌

    I did the Revell model back in the 90's for my dad who flew them in the war. Nice job on your model.
