Hi luke you've done a fantastic job on the mig mate it looks awesome. Regarding eduard decals. what I've seen about them is you apply the decals over a gloss coat, then leave them for 24 hours, then peel them off. i think that's why people struggle with using them they are not leaving them long enough. cheers Gary 🇬🇧
Hi Luke, it was a pleasure to meet you today at the (re)start of my modeling adventure, looking forward to the airbrush tutorial when I take the plunge! By the way, Hannants is a great recommendation; luckily, it's fairly local. Dan
Lovely, exotic MiG 21, very nicely made. The 21's shape lends itself to a quirky scheme, I think..... a little mini-series on 'different' Fishbeds, Bisons and Mongols would be interesting; You're the bloke to do it! 😉
Mig 21 was always my favorite Soviet fighter. I think I can understand the blue/green camo, a green island surrounded by a blue ocean? Quite attractive. Anyway, nice build as always. High standard as always.
Great build as usual @machmodels . Just a suggestion for future aircraft builds; try using Mr Hobby 101 or Tamiya X-19 SMOKE for post shading. It’s a clear browny black that isn’t as saturated as flat black. So you’ll get a subtle shading effect. Something else that you could try for jet exhaust or any worn metallic surface; Mr Metal Color 212 - Iron, 213 - Stainless & 214 - Dark Iron. These are buffable metallic paints; so apply either by hairy-stick or airbrush - leave it to dry then with a soft cloth rub till you have a realistic used metallic shine. I’ve uploaded a video on my channel that you can watch to see how easy & effective this technique is.
Thank you for letting me know! Unfortunately I have tried it before and I’ve never completely got on with it, so I’ll probably stick to my own methods for now! But thanks again!
Nice work again Luke, the Mig looks great, as for peeling the decals I haven't used the new ones yet but can see an advantage to removing the outer layer, they look more natural.
Great looking MiG, a nice colour scheme different from its usual bare metal finish. Those missiles are the 'R-3S' by the way. Keep up the amazing work and excited for what's next!
Thank you Brian! Bare metal isn’t my favourite so I jumped at the idea of having a “coloured” one. Thanks for correcting me on those missiles… too many letters and numbers!🤣👌🏻
Great job as always. The MiG-21 interior colour has received much discussion. Unfortunately Eduard’s release had them direct modellers to use H45 Emerald Green which is too green. I’ll come back to H45. I have found AK Real Colors RC206 Russian Cockpit Turquoise is spot on as a colour choice and have used this in all but one of the MiG-21s I have built. The other (my first MiG-21) was a 50/50 mix of H46 Emerald Green and H25 Sky Blue which produces a colour almost identical to RC206. As you find in your build, these kits are great to build and like me, you’ll probably build more. There are so many interesting marking choices across their boxings and then of course there are the after market decal sheets. You could fill a room with MiG-21s.
Thank you for such an insightful comment! When I inevitably go back and build another one of these, I’ll come straight to this comment! Thanks again!👌🏻
Great high standard of work. The Eduard decals are getting better. I tend peel off the big one but leave the film on the stencil. VMS Satin varnish makes the film disappear. On the whole I don’t like them.
MM - Great video, I haven’t had an opportunity to use the Eduard decals but they look super once you’ve peeled off the backing paper, BTW good luck with your adventure at Hannants 😂
Great job! I try not to muck around with Eduard decals if I can help it. If you have overlapping decals, it can be a nightmare. I try to shop new decals - usually from Hannants - if I can.
Hi, I’ve been watching your channel for some time now and recently visited Hannats in London and was going to speak to you but you were busy introducing a couple of young lads to the airbrushing world. Just wanted to ask a quick question. When you are mixing paint with thinners ready to spray, how do you measure out the amount of paint and of thinners? And how do you ensure you have enough paint/thinners that you will use?
Thank you very much for keeping up with the channel! So a good tool to have is dropper bottles, these make sure you have an exact amount of paint, also I use a little scoop and a Pipette to get around about the right region. However most of it is just feel and experience, I know it’s a bit of a bad answer but it is the truth!
Wow,this is What I was looking for,a Mig.For Russian interiors I decided to get pale blue green, but now looking at it,it might be too bright, but I will see when I get a Russian aircraft, maybe I might have to go to Hannants tommorow,as for £37 that Mig is Beautiful. Thanks mate!
“Russian interiors” were not all the same colour. The emerald green or turquoise was common in many MiGs (Mr Color C391, AK RC206 (old) or RC980 (new), Model Air 71.331, etc.), whereas many Sukhoi aircraft had a blue-grey colour (e.g. Mr Color C392), and many older jets had grey cockpits. Check references specific to the aircraft. In any event, many hobby paint manufacturers are now producing colours supposedly representative of Soviet/Russian paint used in various applications, just as we have become accustomed to FS, RAL, RLM, and BSC colours for western military subjects. The accuracy of said interpretations is subject to debate. 😂
As that previous comment suggests, maybe the Eduard callouts aren’t very accurate! Thank you very much, and I’m at Hannants all day today so come have a chat!👌🏻😉
Nice job on that Mig and good video. Furthermore I have a question, do you dilute vms varnish with something?? I find it bit thick for airbrush. Thank you.
Thank you very much! I personally like to dilute the VMS down about 20/30% using their own VMS acrylic 2.0 thinner. Then I’ll spray it at 2 bar through a 0.3 nozzle👌🏻
Good evening my friend, the Mig came out perfectly, you have done a excellent job on this very iconic fighter, now for that question to Peel or not to Peel? I think I would peel, as by all accounts the decals look very much like painted on details., Best regards from Australia.
Got to ask, why don't you mix your own oil washes, it's so much cheaper. And more satisfying as you put the effort in. Love your work mate, but I cannot bring myself to build a Russian aircraft
Good question! To be honest, I just really like the ease of use of the bottle and I know exactly what tone I’m getting out of the bottle. Thank you for the comment, but why can’t you do a Russian?👌🏻

Have you considered instead of rushing through builds like you do to put out more videos more often, trying to spend more time on the models and raise the finished quality of work? I notice quite often you have badly aligned parts, as well as poor quality of cleanup where you blame the kit for it instead of just putting care and attention into the model.
A valid comment, however, I would love you to be a little more specific as to what areas are so bad on this build. On previous builds, I definitely understand the areas which have gone wrong but I thought this one was better. Would love to see some of your models as well, to see what I’m striving for😄😉

Great video. Live the way it turned out.

Thanks for the demo at hannants 😊

Great high standard of work. The Eduard decals are getting better. I tend peel off the big one but leave the film on the stencil. VMS Satin varnish makes the film disappear. On the whole I don’t like them.
Regarding vms i cant get a great gloss coat, and struggles through the airbrush straight from the bottle. Can i thin with x20a, mr hobby slf or iso?
@@xWILZTAxwhat pressure are you airbrushing at?
@@cfranko1860 i normally go high for varnish around 25-30 psi
VMS seemingly does hide lots of carrier film so that’s a very efficient solution! Thanks for the comment👌🏻

As for areas on this build, more time spent during assembly to file, fit, fill, and rescribe areas where necessary would have elevated it further.
