Akarsh Rastogi, Yes, I am familiar and have the album. Perhaps I should have said, Miles named this acid fueled jam on this premiere fusion lp. Fusion on!

John McLaughlin, Chick Corea, Victor Wooten, and Lenny White, live at the Blue Note. What an incredible album this might have made! I'm envious of every person in that audience.
Love Lenny White but for some reason I’m not enjoying his mediocre input of this particular performance. There’s too much emphasis on a 4/4 beat, barely breaking up and highlighting the irregular time signature which makes ‘You Know You Know’ what it is. After all, he was the main man with Return To Forever all those years back and a prominent figure in the fusion movement!
Saw him do this on his first Mahavishnu tour. Wearing all white. ...Billy Cobham, Jan Hammer, Jerry Goodman, Rick Laird. Sitting first row. We didn't know what hit us. Some couldn't keep up and walked out. The rest of us just sat there in stunned awe. Tremendous talent.
They were a band of virtuoso's being driven by a great band leader and guitarist with a vision. Awesome and ahead of its time. Even by today's standards
Saw him twice at Woolsey Hall, 1973-74. I STILL haven't gotten over it, 50 years later! Just when we couldn't comprehend any more blazing riffs, they played Lotus on Irish Streams. Magical. The first time, they had to stop after two encores . . . John came out to apologize because Billy Cobham was totally cramped. If you haven't checked out Spectrum, Billy's solo effort, please do so.
John McLaughlin was a shredding guitar monster before shredders were invented. He was shredding way back in the early 70s along with Allan Holdsworth during his Soft Machine day's and Jan Akkerman during his Focus days. These were the real guitar giants of their day.
Yes, agree in regards to shredding before shredders were invented. I seen McLaughlin as a kid in the '70's in Australia, I was awestruck!! So much light and shade in his playing!
Thanks for including Akkerman! I rediscovered him recently. Funny, I discovered "Inner Mounting Flame" , also Allan when he played with Tony William's, especially the tune "Fred". I was the 1st to buy these albums when they came out, and no one I knew was even interested. We were all young Rockers. But, I am and was a guitar player.

I was ring-side at the Blue Note, NYC for this show w. dear friends Joe & Anne in 2016. Blue-Note had booked Chick for a month for his 75th b-day. He got to play with different combinations of musicians he had worked with over his long, amazing career. To see Chick & John McLaughlin together, supported by the great Victor Wooten on bass and bad-ass Lenny White on drums was a spectacular treat I'll always remember. Chick had been there at the beginning of Miles Davis' new electric sound, beginning in Feb. 1969 with "In a Silent Way" and later that year, Aug. 1969 with the ground-breaking, "Bitches Brew." So many great young musicians played on those dates. By 1972, when Chick contributed to the hyper-kinetic jazz-funk classic, "On the Corner", he was already off on his own as a leader in "Return to Forever". Along w. other Miles alumni, Joe Zawinul & Wayne Shorter in "Weather Report", John McLaughlin's Mahavishnu Orchestra; Herbie Hancock's "Mwandishi", a new form of high-propellent fusion jazz was explored that lit up the firmament. In 2008, Chick & John joined forces again in the "5 Peace Band". Playing each other's compositions they were supported by the best of the next-gen players - Christian McBride on bass, Kenny Garrett on sax, and monster percussionist, Vinnie Coluiata. ruclips.net/video/Culg50fKK8E/видео.html. Great thanks and blessings to Chick Corea, whose innovative originality both in playing, composing, recording & band leading set the bar for all who aspire to greatness in music and in life.
I grew up with these guys...I have been listening to them since when I was barely a teenager... them...Billy Cobham...Carlos Santana...Narada Michael Walden....now I am in the sixties...
A tune as ordinary as your ring tone on a calling bell, on your alarm or the hourly chime on a clock...but these geniuses' turned it into a breathtakingly divine music...Thank you John for the music
Exactly. The two blokes above me can leave their jaws slacked open but actually the melody to You Know You Know is a very inconspicuous one. I believe McLaughlin noodled the melody one day and wrote the form knowing how much room for improvisation it allowed. Simple and beautiful
My reaction watching this: -cool! It's John Mclaughlin live. -damn Victor Wooten is there too. -oh shit! Is that Chick Corea on the piano? -wait! LENNY WHITE WAS ON THE DRUMS ALL ALONG?!
I saw John on his final tour while on vacation in Fla. It was amazing to see and hear John play with the fire and energy when I first saw him in the early 70s with the Mahivishna Orchestra with Billy Cobham on drums! Hearing him play is a mind altering experience for those who appreciate a technical and expressive guitarist. A true legend.
I was there that night - a night I will never forget as every piece they played was just as memorable -- an incredible feeling to say the least and great quality of sound!
Oh man, the musical genius assembled on that stage ... and how funny it is to see Return to Forever band members Chick Corea and Lenny White play a Mahavishnu Orchestra piece with John.
Remember: Chick and Lenny have a special bond with John since they were all in the core band on the Bitches Brew recordings. That is deep -- and throw in Victor Wooten who looks so tickled to be playing with guys he's admired so much.
Victor Wooten is in heaven here.😊. I walked in to Mahavishnu Orchestra late at DAR Constitution Hall in 1974 with this song playing having never heard of them. Froze me in my tracks. 7:30 show. When it ended bought tickets to 10:30 show with a little lysergic intervening.... Got to watch John play a little pinball before One Truth Band show in small club/bar in Atlanta 10 years later. Also got to see Shakti in CA. Also saw all of Apocalypse performed at DAR.. The audience wouldn't leave without an encore but John came out and said that's all we know so they repeated a song to everyone's delight.

The John McLaughlin Quartet played this song as an encore to their performance at the Bridgewater Hall, Manchester, UK this week. It was a fitting end to one of the best concerts that I've ever attended.
