i am 70 and remember decades ago i was the only one , the only one at the Maritime College listening to the Mahavishnu Orchestra , it was for me heaven and slowly at the Academy and onboard the vessels one by one i got more people into John McLaughlin an absolute master !!
0:17 love the old school roadie plugging in John's axe. Reckon he's seen it all lol. You know ur in experienced hands. Shout out to the road crew and production crew who keep the show going. P.S. Gr8 bass solo! ty
I think he plays through a real amp here and not the digital emulations he used on stage for years. The tone is so much better and does justice to his incredible musicianship.
Thank ( insert preferred deity ) that John is still here, as so many have gone. Their music will always be here ( unless all the hardware melts!) but always in our hearts and minds.😎💞🎸
John is the elder statesman and No.1 player of all time... he helped Jeff and Jimmy (and maybe Eric, too) with their early playing and without him this holy trinity would never have happened.
@@javiceres John even mentions it on his website. He owns a white strat and said it reminds him of the one he gave to Jeff Beck in the mid 70s. Jeff played a les paul (oxblood) prior to that. I've read it from other sources too
Wow! Greatest rhythm pair I've heard in a long time. Anika Nilles drumming killing it and Rhonda Smith taking bass journeys that blow my mind . JM is a master of fusion. Great choice!!!!!
Killer playing. Like the original master Jeff Back would have demanded, performed with tons of space allowing each musician to show their true abilities. Miles would have been knocked out.
John McLaughlin Is A Powerful Influence ,When I Was 15 I Heard This Great Creative Talent Was The One To Learn About Technique And Perception From ,He Was The First Great Influence On Me On Learning About Playing And Practice.
killer crushing at 81 years old, my favorite guitarist! Rhonda Smith is awesome and thank you Jeff Beck - greatest rock guitarist for me- I mean guitarist!
I should of spoke of when John came on stage, It was glorious.Jeff just destroyed the hall, everyone was mesmerized. John comes out and ask"s everyone for moment of silence To Pray. Unbelievably a third of the audience leaves.Better seats avail .What a mistake. The M.O. crushed it.52 years ago and he still kills it. Im going to take a moment to pray. T.Y. John and Jeff, PEACE
It’s always a good sign when you see someone actually “plug in” in todays day and age! Tone is usually very important to that player! Thank you Mr. McLaughlin 🙏
Seeing Rhonda and Anika really hurts, I saw them with Jeff in DC a few months before we lost him. The longer he’s gone the more it hurts. Thank you ladies for a great concert with Jeff!
I wondered how this particular song would go - got chills from the start... I think I need to check and see if that bass player has any solo stuff out there, been watching her jam with Mr. Beck for awhile, she's impressive.
John is the most respected guitarist by Jeff Beck. Not one of the most.for Jeff, the most of the most. During the interview after releasing Blow by brow, when Jeff was asked about John, Jeff stopped the question and said “I can’t play as John!” It showed perfect respect for John.
John McLaughlin and Derek Trucks were a class apart during this tribute concert in my opinion , the remainder , with best intention I have to say , can only dream about being in the same ball park as Jeff Beck , just saying .
The Master paying tribute to the Master. McLaughlin is 81 years old and still mind blowing. We miss you Jeff.

The bass player and drummer are absolutely killin' it!
Best of this tribute, by a man of 80 who played with Miles Davis……deep respect John
Jeff once said "John McLaughlin is the greatest guitar player in the World" RIP Mr. Beck
Yes he did!
And Jeff Beck had a cogent point. John is an incredible musician. The Mahavishnu Orchestra was my favorite band to see live.
@@dunebillyofswanbeach4294 Yes...they were great. My buddies couldn't handle what they were playing. lol

That tour was seminal.
This song captured the essence of a Jeff Beck tribute to perfection,as Jeff always raved about John McLaughlin and what a absolute power force he is!
Who’s the master of all guitar styles? You know, you know!
Who ?

JM’s tone is just so good here. He rarely plays with this much gain and I wish he would more often. Such a great tribute.

I have great respect for John M. Anyone who can jam with jazz, flamenco, Indian musicians, etc and fit right in is truly gifted.
SO TRUE!
Rhonda, Anika and John pulled this off amazingly well! Great effort
Nothing wrong with all the Erics, Johnnys, Ronnys, Rods, Billys, all the Ladys and Choirs. But this trio is it!
81 years old ...incredible
That was amazing, Rhonda and Anika were fantastic
John wrote this song, Jeff covered it. Such a fitting tribute
And that bass solo. Damn. Let's just say the 3-way level of musicianship here is out of this world.
Such a legend! Jeff would have loved this above everything else
finally someone besides trucks ripping it. awesome
Really the one who truly is worthy of Beck's tribute. Definitely showed Jeff alternative musical directions.
I´ve saw John lots of times also with Shakti. Great times Great times. Beck said John is the best.I´m blown out.
John is the elder statesman and No.1 player of all time... he helped Jeff and Jimmy (and maybe Eric, too) with their early playing and without him this holy trinity would never have happened.
To say nothing of the huge number of jazz guitarists for whom he opened doors. Coryell, Metheny, Abercrombie, Stern, Holdsworth ….
John even gifted JB the white strat which is on wired's album cover

It was a great night, my wife got tickets for my 70th birthday, it was just amazing to be entertained by so many all time greats, loved every minute.

Jeff knew a good thing!

Hard to argue with that. Class act.
Agreed!! Saw him and Shakti 40+ years ago in Seattle… pure magic!!!
This is damn good. Who is the drummer?
@xwirth thanks 😊
Great Mahavishnu Orchestra tune from Inner Mounting Flame released in 1971.
I've been into JM since Bird Of Fire LP Absolutely one of the best guitarist I've seen live at least 6-7 times never disappointed ❤
Brilliant performance by all the musicians.
masterpiece !! executed by accomplished musicians, written by a genius !! Rhonda is brilliant as is the drummer Anika !!
That's what clean living can do for you
Check out the tune "Django", which Jeff Beck played with John Mclaughlin's The Promise album.
Amazing music, another level, the highest level.John’s touch comes from God.

The way he plays in and out with Anika and Rhonda summarises why his band was called the (Mahavishnu) Orchestra.
That Funkmaster on bass is other-worldly 💯❤

The last survivor of the Graham Bond Organization.
Great stuff. I'm sure there is a reason but it would have been nice to see Jan Hammer at this. He played with both Jeff and John.
