Until recently Could not get over Chick Corea's passing. Went to see Thundercat ... he provided much needed closure by acknowledging his death and paying tribute.
I got to see Chick at The Blue Note with the quartet:Chick, Michael Brecker, Eddie Gomez, Steve Gadd; next night the trio: Chick, Avishai Cohen, Jeff Ballard . This was November 2001, a month after the tragedy. The energy was amazing, as anyone who has seen Chick live knows. However, with the 911 tragedy looming thick in everyone's spirit, it was an especially bittersweet experience. I am extremely grateful to have seen these extraordinary artists. Peace to Chick and Mike. 🙏Your music shaped the way I see the world in so many wonderful ways.♥️
What brilliant control mr wooten has, I would be all over that open pocket with my 4 strings, bravo Victor!! such a groove you help control!! maneuver perhaps.
& what of Chick? How could you write your comment without including Chick? I will tell you how they do it// or how the poster did it// you simply create a title without using the letters that when in a specific sequence comprise their names.
You guys sure drop each other in it. Simply the best CC solo AND JM solo in one pot. Drum and bass out of sight keepin it tight. Love from Fylde Coast. Come and Play Lytham Green Festival some time. PLEASE! 2:28 three eyed shark hiding in the piano.
Visions Of An Inner Mounting Apocalypse. Привет из России/Советского Союза😅
Gosh, I just like this tune, always have. Looked up the time signature, a lot of dissension among postings, but it's an interestingly accented 4/4, or 8/4, or whatever, nice rhythmic arrangement anyway you look at it (or listen).
The original was in 4/4, the "head" being a 3-3-2 clave pattern across two bars, followed by a break of 4 bars. In this version, the last bar of the 4-bar break is made 3/4 instead of 4/4.
@@vittorioolivieri1841 The first 9 notes of the head almost sound like it, but if you listen to the drumming accents, that 9th note lands on the first beat of the 3rd bar.
My goodness, all that unbelievable talent on stage...and a tiny stage at that, and this was the best that they could come up with? I know John is an amazing talent. His flamingo work is straight out of the universe somewhere. But I just could never really wrap my head around a lot, really most of his work. And I love prog rock. Live it, played it(no money in it)but Mclaughlin just is, most of the time, maybe just to good for my tastes. Chick and Return To Forever, Electrik Band w/ Weckl, Frank Gambale-- THE maestro shredder! et al. Jan Hammer, all the greats. But Mahavishnu is just over my head most of the time. Very demanding on the ear with very few melodic restatatives. Maybe I am showing my musical immaturity and I bow to you all that love him. You are probably equally as good players yourselves. For if you like it and understand it, chances are that you are the 2% of musicians that are truly phenomenal players who are every bit one with their craft. To those, I do very much bow.
Chick always looks like he's doing physics or chemistry when he's thinking about the next riff. "sulphuric acid? a liter? H2O? ammonia? a kilo of sodium ? mix? stir? heat? A quote from Red Baron? PLUTONIUM?!!??"
tomxchao Mmm, same doubt but i don't think so, John grabbed the mic quickly to tease Chick for failing at the end of the song (i was at that one too!!)

From whats in the comments it appears this is a McLaughlin tune and I like those descending arpeggios. I get the feeling this was an impromptu jam because the music is very loose. Id love to see Wooten cut loose with Corea or McLaughlin. They both always play with great bassist. With Lenny White on drums Victor was the jr member of the club.
Mahavishnu was way godlike to me 1970-74 then the guitar trio - yow. Took me decades to get slow. Weirdly, I was just listening to "Between Nothingness and Eternity" an hour ago.
@@craigdamage Yes, but whoever is drumming probably said, NO to the drum-ripping thing Billy does at the ending of the song. I think if John had ripped more on the guitar with some oooomph (O.D. pedal maybe), you might not miss Billy so much, maybe? maybe not.........
@@barebarekun161 fyi people are hating on Lenny here cause he clearly doesn't know the tune, Chicks face makes it obvious at one point. Drummers gotta know the tune too!
To slow i think, and I miss the "Phaser" that he did on the original Mahavishnu Orchestra. Saying that, I saw him in 1976 in Oslo with one of the first "SHAKTI" concert's. And I was sitting beside Jan Garbarek Terje Rypdal and other Norwegian Jazz... And we all just were sitting there as 😮 this! 😅
This is amazing. Thanks for posting. John doesn't have dates to play America in the near future, as far as I can tell....anyone know different? Hope so.
OMG one can only imagine what that evening was like , bloody hell from an English Man that knows Johns music , tears to the eyes bless .
Seeing Chick and John playing together is musical heaven.
Leaders of the two most progressive fusion bands
Clearly John and Victor are enjoying themselves immensely and Chick will be deeply missed.

God I love Chick Corea! They mess the time up at one point and Chick looks up with a smile on his face...love it.
I was there - it was an amazing show. Chick will never be imitated.
I know John can play like 45 million notes a second but its so cool to see him just groovin' like this too
As he ages, he distills more and i love it.
Most great musicians follow this course.
John’s playing is so rich. He’s a true improviser.
The drummers is also behaving himself...who is it?
Yes, yes, and YES!!!! Good to hear him hold back a bit, maybe like on Bitches Brew. No?
Chick Vic - thankfully I can count because you keep dropping a beat...
My #1 favorite tune from my first two Mahavishnu albums pirated from Khan Market, New Delhi, March 1987.
Thanks for posting, made me smile, and lately that’s hard to do.
Amazing that I find this version! I have the Birds of Fire first LP and a live LP with meeting of the spirits! But this version with Chick Corea!

Through a wrench in my rock and roll, changed everything for the good
Got to see this tribute the last night I believe they also did The Smile of the Beyond and Gail sang it. A very special nite eched in my heart.

Spectacular!
The best band I ever saw was Return to Forever, in London, 1972, at Ronnie Scott's. I went five times in two weeks.
Killer I saw them in 75!
A small glimpse of what should have been a "meeting of the spirits" Of Return to Forever and Mahavishnu Orchestra.
Mr Wootten looks like he is really enjoying himself :) so groovy .

They're letting the groove take them where they wanna go.
Just saw this...John quoting Miles at 3:16 ..too good.. love the laugh of recognition.
Lenny White plays the drums.
The best should have added Cobham double fusion dtums
RIP Chick ❤️🙏🏾
FYI, at the time of this recording (2017), John hadn’t been “Mahavishnu” for about 35 years or so …
The sound is quite good at this gig as well as the primitive recording
People playing with Chick Corea always smile.
As Chich himself. Much missed.
To be fair, Victor Wooten always smiles.
If you don't like this song, you know, you just don't know this song...This came out 51 years ago and was done here just as it was performed then.
The groove!
