Finding something this beautiful later in life is reassuring, because it makes me sure that there are more beautiful things in this world then I will will ever have time to experience. So I will be joyful till I die.
This is a good example of why JM is, imo, a genius. His chords are otherworldly and his creative and beautiful expressiveness touches something inside me.
Good God! To have been able to experience this epiphany live. All the magical creative artists with complete mastery of their instruments are gradually disappearing.
Oh My God! And we all know that Zawinul wrote In a Silent Way. He also wrote Pharao's Dance, and played on that album - Bitches Brew. MAJOR INFLUENCE ON MUSIC!
Music is indeed the universal language. Zawinul (McLauglin still is …) was indeed a multi -linguist able to speak the language in such a sublime manner few will ever emulate. His articulation was unmatched. He is missed.
What is there to say -just magic and really beautiful-a wonderful memory of two musicians who were important to Miles-the greatest magician of them all.
Excellent- Two of my favourite Musical Masters playing together and doing the classic'In A Silent Way'. R.I.P Miles Davis and Joe Zawinul - Your Music Lives On. May you play your Guitars forever John McLaughlin, GOD Bless.
so fakking beautiful, wow...I have seen and heard a lot of JM in my life and this right here might be my favorite performance by him, sheeesh, so confident and relaxed, just hinting at being frenetic (hahaha)...a cascade of chordal harmonies and they intuit the vibe so well.....if you squint you can see JZ, as an old shepard in the foothills of the Alps, wandering around playing that strange instrument and hitching up his pants....love this
What a superb version of this classic piece. McLaughlin's use of the guitar synthesizer easily ranks as one of the most successful ever, and Joe solos beautifully on the wind controller over John's chords. I love it! ❤❤
+Pas Thomas I understand the points you convey. He is one of my favorites. He is as much a pleasure to watch, and listen to now, as he was the first time I heard him all those years gone by. I think he enjoys playing as much as well. (at least I believe so)
Just stunningly magnificent ! Absurdly crushed chords reach to the heights for something brand new and completely altering. incroyablement magnifique !
Two masters creating music of unspeakable beauty!! If it were humanly possible, I would show this to every person on the planet! The world would instantly become a more peaceful, loving and habitable place for us all.
HAd things a bit backwards when I was 14 yrs. I old. I got into Miles be ause he played with Joh. N Mc. Or so I thought. GreT. Erosion. (VERSSION). THANK YOU FOR POSTI G..
One thing a great jazz musician does is take everything he thinks he knows and throw it out the window. Love of "The Spiritual" search of music all around us keeps growth and beauty at fingertip.
Geez, you could be my doppelgänger. HUGE Yes, Wakey, WR, John McL fan, and love the BB soundtrack, watched it last year. Saw C & N multiple times, as well.
intriguing to hear the voice Joe heard in his head come thru his breath and incomparable clavier dexterity. Obviously, he was catalytic in the presence of both Cannonball and Wayne Shorter, but i must share that Joe once asked me, early in knowing him as he and Ivan's Sales Engineer at Sweetwater (pre2K,) if there was a sample library of Ben Webster's horn. What emanates from Joe in this context is a fusion of Ben and Wayne, in tone and inflection, with a rekindling of Joe's original ax technique on the accordion (the controller has a keyboard layout, in lieu of woodwind fingerings, á la melodica.) Aching beauty emerges from both these prodigious voices in Miles' cohort who pioneered the transformation of jazz into world fusion, melding a slew of cultural and technological threads into finest tapestry of sensorial delight.
Joe and Wayne started out together, amongst the first things they did together, was "In a silent way." The last thing they did together was "in a silent way." Just 10 days before Joe died.
McLaughlin is using his Photon MIDI controller - you can see it in the rack. I still have mine. It was a good idea at the time but it has been surpassed by newer tech. Great stuff.
Hmmm....I'm thinking.............. Men like these have made the most fresh, exquisite, technically, and passionate, perfect , heart rendering music since Coltrane!! Women too....They all, in memoirs, and interviews, acknowledge Mr. Coltrane, as we all should!!!
Quiet audience? Surprised the camera has not panned on at least the front row...until the end. Strange but very welcome since the focus remains appropriately on Joe and John.
Speaking about chords, dear Oliver K, I think I can clearly hear FLAMENCO CHORDS in JML's wonderful playing, which weren't there before crossing with inmortal Paco de Lucía. He even smiles at playing them...
John was asked to be in Weather Report by either Zawinul or Shorter when they were forming but John had to say no because Miles Davis had just told McLaughlin it was time for him to leave the nest and form his own band-the Mahavishnu Orchestra.
and to think they both played on the miles davis version all those years ago... zawinul doesn't sound lost, he just has a meandering kind of melodic style, like how he moseys around the stage. think of brown street, dream clock, night passage... some of his gestures sound like he's thinking, "what would wayne say about this?"
Finding something this beautiful later in life is reassuring, because it makes me sure that there are more beautiful things in this world then I will will ever have time to experience. So I will be joyful till I die.
So well said

The other Allan Holdsworth 😎
Such versatile and creative musicians.
What feeling souls!
I LOVE this - it is perfection. Zawinul playing the wind controller is a beautiful match for McLaughlin.
Joe makes it sound like a soprano sax a la Wayne Shorter who played on the original I think....
A genius of harmony ❤ he sets the mood and John rides on it perfectly Oh my... what delight!
I’m just so freaking happy right now!
Good God! To have been able to experience this epiphany live. All the magical creative artists with complete mastery of their instruments are gradually disappearing.
New ones will come. Such is the covenant of lifetime.
Oh My God! And we all know that Zawinul wrote In a Silent Way. He also wrote Pharao's Dance, and played on that album - Bitches Brew. MAJOR INFLUENCE ON MUSIC!
Pharoa's Dance absolutely kills me. I love Joe.
one of the greatest albums of all time. the version w/ Miles is totally etherial
Absolutely.
he didn't write shit, fan boy
Yes right ! Joe🙏
Listen to the sound of heaven.
Music is indeed the universal language. Zawinul (McLauglin still is …) was indeed a multi -linguist able to speak the language in such a sublime manner few will ever emulate. His articulation was unmatched. He is missed.

You put it way better than me,yes

What is there to say -just magic and really beautiful-a wonderful memory of two musicians who were important to Miles-the greatest magician of them all.
what a lovely moment in music history
Why did it take me practically a lifetime to discover this piece of music! Beautiful.
Yeah I agree, and it took me three more years than you. Lol
But you did. Count yourself among the fortunate my friend.
Better late than never.😃

the only way it should ever be performed. 2 masters,1 timeless tune. thanks for posting, this is precious.
They are so good that even the usual haters/critics have nothing to say; it is refreshing to say the least

Two real Masters of music!! RIP Joe Zawinul!!
What a truly beautiful piece of music, played by two stunning musicians. Thanks.
I've never seen a wind controller used like this. These two people performed together beautifully...

Absolutely beautiful!
I can't imagine the feeling of listening to this live and in the moment
What a superb version of this classic piece. McLaughlin's use of the guitar synthesizer easily ranks as one of the most successful ever, and Joe solos beautifully on the wind controller over John's chords. I love it! ❤❤
best guitarist in history. what an artist.
+Pas Thomas There is no such thing. John is indeed amongst the elite of the world though.
+Human Bein' no, he's the best, there is no question bout that!
+Pas Thomas Sure there is. Just not in YOUR mind. Enjoy his playing in good health. :-)
I speak entirely of technical proficiency,
the ability to play in numerous styles with improvised conviction.
and of course the 'speed of art' :)
+Pas Thomas I understand the points you convey. He is one of my favorites. He is as much a pleasure to watch, and listen to now, as he was the first time I heard him all those years gone by. I think he enjoys playing as much as well. (at least I believe so)
Masters!! These 2 can play anything with anybody and it instantly becomes a classic.

One thing a great jazz musician does is take everything he thinks he knows and throw it out the window. Love of "The Spiritual" search of music all around us keeps growth and beauty at fingertip.
Most beautiful :)
thank you .
Wow!!! Amazing!!
I see this piece not as music, but as a perspective of the world, an ethereal image of the union of the souls.
But this is what music can be, do not doubt the greatness of art.
Stellar !
Du godeste - hvilke musikere.

Amazing stuff right here

Be sure to have some tissues handy...😢
Inspiring Choices for the Lost and Found.
Wonderful....
Now that really is “soul” music.
Gorgeous tranquility
Two icons !!!!
Absolutely astonishing
Miss you Joe…….
Wonderful
Feel free and delicate. 5 stars.
Magic Joe... ❤
What is Jazz ..going to do without likes of John ...Al Di Meola .Pat Metheny..in years to come..true pioneers..of Jazz..and Fusion
Rosenwinkel, Heckselman just to name a few ...
Brilliant, exquisite, beautiful. A tune by Miles I think. This made me tear up ... Joe, Miles we miss you deeply.
written by Joe Zawinul
Magic.
Dude just ripped this out while looking like he was strumming sitting at a campfire.
McLaughlin is using his Photon MIDI controller - you can see it in the rack. I still have mine. It was a good idea at the time but it has been surpassed by newer tech. Great stuff.
@2:50 to @3:02 the line communicated and the harmony continued. goose bumps
Brillant!
Zawinul's musical brings us to a different galaxie and McLaughlin is a wonderfull complementary from our galaxie. ✌
Hmmm....I'm thinking..............
Men like these have made the most fresh, exquisite, technically, and passionate, perfect , heart rendering music since Coltrane!! Women too....They all, in memoirs, and interviews, acknowledge Mr. Coltrane, as we all should!!!
I wish Zawinul's volume had been balanced with McLaughlin's, in this recording.
Otherwise, very nice. Great song done by two great musicians.
It is worth mentioning...John is from Yorkshire,UK
Super
Quiet audience? Surprised the camera has not panned on at least the front row...until the end. Strange but very welcome since the focus remains appropriately on Joe and John.
Qué más les puedo escribir? Si él es el mejor guitarrista del mundo! ¿cuantas veces lo he escrito? John Mac Laughlin. El invencible! sí ó no?
♥️♥️
magic
More than fine
❤
Zawinul playing his custom made Korg Pepe breath controlled synth.
I just...frick...oh my!
Zawinul playing a sample of Wayne Shorter
Speaking about chords, dear Oliver K, I think I can clearly hear FLAMENCO CHORDS in JML's wonderful playing, which weren't there before crossing with inmortal Paco de Lucía. He even smiles at playing them...
АФИГЕННО!
Действительно, как сотворение мира.
When & where recorded ? & why is there not more of this masterful beauty uploaded - best of the best imo
McLaughlin would have been a perfect fit in Weather Report.
maybe, but WR was quite perfect without them too.
John was asked to be in Weather Report by either Zawinul or Shorter when they were forming but John had to say no because Miles Davis had just told McLaughlin it was time for him to leave the nest and form his own band-the Mahavishnu Orchestra.
and to think they both played on the miles davis version all those years ago... zawinul doesn't sound lost, he just has a meandering kind of melodic style, like how he moseys around the stage. think of brown street, dream clock, night passage... some of his gestures sound like he's thinking, "what would wayne say about this?"
hate how at 4:28 Joe's notes are hidden behind the cymbal. What a gem.
