    Ok let's get this straight, PREFERRING a specific kind of race just simply because you're more attracted to that, is alot different than weeding out someone or automatically saying no because of their race. Which in my opinion, is racist.

    • @zora99ny
      @zora99ny 7 лет назад +125

      The question is WHY do you prefer a specific race. There are usually unpleasant truths associated with that answer (if you prefer a race other than your own).

      NYCzora Lol because I find English people intriguing and also tend to find blue eyes attractive.. which, just happens to occurr alot in Europeans. Does that mean I automatically reject someone because the color of their skin? Nope. But yeah I just happen to like a specific culture a little more than the rest. Its no different than loving pizza, but just loving pineapple pizza a little more than the rest.

    • @ddalgi-hime-07
      @ddalgi-hime-07 7 лет назад +1

      To me, that's the thing, being physically attracted. My dream guys is white, tall, blonde hair, and blue eyes point blank period. Don't get me wrong, I've actually had crushes on guys who haven't met that criteria, even a black guy once! Back in fifth grade lol he was just really nice. But I know myself and I know that even though I love their personality, I can never look at them and be attracted the same way I would be attracted to another man that did have blonde hair and blue eyes. And that to me is really sad because that person deserves to be with someone that will look at them and think they're the most attractive man in the world and if I can't give that to them then they should be with someone else.

My boyfriend of 3 years is hispanic and i love him and i am happy with him. I see nothing wrong with dating within your race or outside of your race. Just as long as you are happy and in love nothing else will matter.

    I appreciate Phaedra's response. It is refreshing to have a apolitically correct person on the panel. Let's be real, there are individuals (such as myself) who prefer to date/marry within my own race because there are commonalities that we share that if we have children, there won't be any confusion about who we are and what we stand for. Yes, love can be found in other races. But race is not just a color, it is the metaphysical history, traditions, values, culture and experiences that cannot be equally understood and practiced by those outside of it. Go Phaedra!!!!

  • @zora99ny
    @zora99ny 7 лет назад +314

    I hear people talk about "preferences" all the time. But people need to ask themselves *WHY* they prefer a certain race (if it's a race that is not their own). Preferences don't just come from nowhere. They are usually conditioned from a young age, ingrained and associated with prejudices and stereotypes.

    • @Thaleya1
      @Thaleya1 7 лет назад +13

      yeah I think this is a good question. Personally I prefer people who look like me, dark hair, blue eyes and white or tan or mixed skin, why? i don't know..possibly i'm a bit selfcentered or it's just what i grew up around, and that always manifests as beauty if that's what you are around at a young age. we are also biologically incined to prefer certain feauteres to create the most beautiful/successful offspring mixed with our own dna. So it's not just predjudice and stereotypes. If you adopt a child of another race and that child grows up in a not so multicultural environment, that child will most often prefer the looks he/she grew up among. I have an adopted asian friend and he thinks white, blonde and blueyed women are the most gorgeous, which is exactly like his mother looks and many in school.
      I think it's all a mix honestly, biologically, stereotypes and predjudice (race, femininity/masculinity/religion/cultural behaviour ). How we associate things and features with attractive, unattractive, repulsive or just average. we also learn by patterns so if someone of a race treats us badly we might be more caucious even without us knowing abbout it the next time we meet somemone that has the same features. And whatever is culturally praised in what we are raised as will be viewed as more attractive

    • @taviaaaa
      @taviaaaa 7 лет назад +23

      NYCzora thank you. When people say preferences I think height, religion, maybe jobs...to put race as a preference is stupid as hell & people really don't realize it comes from prejudices.

    • @SparklingJuice247
      @SparklingJuice247 7 лет назад +18

      Thaleya1 actually...not in reality. Beauty is a social construct. What you think is beautiful is what you are told is beautiful....and what you believe is ugly you were taught to see as ugly. So if you grow up in a racist society like most of us...tah dah!

    • @Thaleya1
      @Thaleya1 7 лет назад +7

      SparklingJuice247 No that's not entirely true. Biology makes us attracted to women with larger hips, or men with more muscles or a certain weight that increases fertility. subtle attraction that we have in-scripted
      since birth.
      But yes it's in large part a social construct, but you don't have to grow up in a racist society to have a strong preferance, i still am not attracted to pale redhaired men. if i dig deep within myself i think it's because when i was a kid we had an annoying kid in school who had red hair, and later on we had another redhaired child in school and he was so uncomfortably cringy in his mannerisms that you got embarrassed for him every time he entered a room, zero confidence. Maybe that lay the ground for me. cuz i have in no way grown up in a society where red haired people are frownd upon, i've had red hair myself many times.

    • @taviaaaa
      @taviaaaa 7 лет назад +27

      Thaleya1 I'm sorry to disregard your "preferences" but you're speaking from a very privileged standpoint. Minorities, specifically women of color, and especially black women, grow up with very little representation in media outlets. So yes I can grow up around plenty of dark skinned people and see the beauty in them, but whenever I pass by a billboard or see a commercial their is mostly people with Eurocentric features that are being sold as beautiful and it's very conflicting. Things don't have to be blatantly racist to create prejudices, by not being inclusive to a wide range of people creates prejudices on it's own. Basically, it's easy for you to say attraction is based mainly on biology or past experiences when you didn't grow up thinking people with features like yours are inferier to Eurocentric or "white" ones.

  • @Asiacoolie1

    Jeannie obviously is not attracted to asian men. That's why she can't see it from a same race aspect like was Adrienne was saying. If a person wants to filter out race by choosing to date their own race, there is absolutely nothing wrong with that.

  • @vgomez1996
    @vgomez1996 7 лет назад +520

    Attractive men and women come in every color. I don't think race should be a factor at all, that's just my honest opinion. We're all human. If I'm being completely honest, I think the reason people choose to avoid dating others of a certain race is because of stereotypes or racism, two of the stupidest ideas of mankind.

    I haven't dated alot of guys, but my first boyfriend was italian and black. Second was puerto rican and now a white man. He has been the most caring and understanding person Ive ever met. And it has NOTHING to do with race. Ive always connected with black men because thats what I've grown up around. 3 of my close guy friends were. For me, it had to do with personality and what they were able to offer me in a relationship. The men I got close to, Ive seen how they were in relationships and I didnt want to deal with that lol and I never really thought I would be with a white man, but it happened. Jeannie is right. Stuff like that arent planned out. It just happens. But it happened because I knew I didnt care about race. Personalities is what keeps me. Not someones apperance or skin color. Why does it matter to other people? I will never really know. Why does race matter so much? Idk. Ethnicities doesn't divide us human beings. It shows diversity, but race man.. it has caused so much ridiculousness lol and for what? We all bleed red.

      If it's genuine I don't have a problem. I do, however, have a problem with Black men who date outside their race to spite their black Mothers, aunts, cousins, etc. That's not ok and they need to figure whatever wound they have and are trying to pacify. I prefer dating outside my race because like Jeannie said I love learning about other cultures. But Phaedra hit it on the nail...some of us are religious and cultural people and that's important for our identity and how we later want to raise our children. It's also important for how our families will receive the person we date. So glad Phaedra and Loni say the truth of the matter.

      @@user-pp9df6ml6i i dont personally correlate sex to race. Men and women are biologically and factually different. I have ovaries, a man doesn't. I have a host of organs that a man does not have and vice versa. Other than skin tone which still functions the same, humans are the same. So comparing gender to race is insinuating that like sexes, different races are inherently different biologically....which isnt that the same thinking that slave masters used to justify slavery? Skin tone isnt biologically as different as say a penis or vagina. A pale person can get a tan if they so desire to. I get lighter in the winter. All it takes is a change in their environment like sitting on a beach or staying indoors. I cant cause my female body to sprout testicles just by adjusting my physical environment. So i dont see how sex and race can be used in the same example. People can change their gender if they so desire but im yet to meet someone who has the capability to change their race🤔 i can bleach my skin but im still going to be considered black. Hmm....maybe because race is a social construct? I personally believe that humans are actually the same despite race but i guess if you believe that humans are not equal or not the same then i could see why you'd have a racial preference socially or romantically.
      If you are unattracted to darker skin then why not just say that? Why connect a specific race to it if the shade of skin is the only thing you dont prefer? There are other races in the world who posses dark skin other than black people. If you dont like curly hair then why not just say that? You don't have to attach a race to it because there are MANY races who have curly/kinky hair. If you dont like big noses then why not just say that? Plenty of other races have big noses if thats your concern. The fact that people have "race" as a preference essentially points to the idea that they are either leading by stereotypes or prejudice. You can prefer pale skin and blue eyes as physical features without elevating one race above the other....because if you look up the definition of racism... you might find that very idea. I mean i have a friend who is Mexican with very pale skin and piercing blue eyes but because he isnt white you suddenly are no longer attracted to the very same features you said you liked? Sounds a lil sus to me. If a black person says they like dimples, tan skin and dark curly hair and are suddenly turned off because they discover the person is white....uhh how is that not prejudice? If someone said they really want someone with darker skin, big eyes, and thick hair but were suddenly turned off because the person was Indian...what the heck is that then? You can easily prefer particular physical features without RACE being a factor. If race HAS to be a factor then I'd ask myself why.

    • @159753smith
      @159753smith 2 года назад

      Lol there’s so much wrong in this statement. First, yes it’s racist to disqualify someone on the basis of their skin colour (literally in the defn of racism). Secondly, not choosing to date the same sex has nothing to do with anything because that’s partly genetics and wiring of the brain- and no one is born “attracted” to once race. Thirdly, not choosing to date an old person, again is no comparison. You’re so stupid.

      +Tré I don't have a problem with what Tamera said, because ultimately, love is not about your ethnicity. Love is about your feelings, emotions, attraction ect...to that individual person. So no, a human being can not help who they fall in love with or are attracted to. Not to mention every person has a preference. So true unconditional love has nothing to do with race. Sadly the people on this earth have such learned and taught prejudices and judgements, that unless we get honest about it, these issues will never be resolved. People need to be open minded and stop categorizing, generalizing and putting labels on everything and individuals in a box.

    Sometimes, dating a specific race has NOTHING to do with preference. In many parts of the world, it is frowned upon to date someone outside of your own race. Some people believe that it's culturally unacceptable to date someone outside of their own race and their families won't accept it. Hense the race filter on dating apps. But I do agree that this limits meeting someone who you may hit it off with. I personally love men of all types.

    • @kianah544
      @kianah544 7 лет назад

      That's still a preference. The reason WHY you have a preference, is irrelevant. It's still a preference. As long as you have a choice, it's a preference. Yes, it may be considered culturally unacceptable or frowned upon, but it is every individual's choice to adhere to those expectations or not adhere and accept the consequences. There's a documentary called Club Native about Native Americans in Canada. If they date out of their race, they lose all status and are shunned. The documentary follows women who choose to date out anyway and they end up having to leave the reservation because they aren't welcome anymore. A preference is a predisposition, a bias, or an inclination. Dating someone of your own race because it's culturally acceptable is you exercising your predisposition or your bias. Your bias for your own race. This is not a bad thing. It's just a fact.

    I've never dated outside my race, although I've been approached and I'm not against it. For me, it all boils down to whether or not I vibe or have a connection with you as person. And if they happen to not be black, that's fine with me, I'm not going to fight against my natural feelings or attraction just because I have preferences. I always have and always will love my black men tho. And that won't change. There's plenty of diverse beauty in my people and I love that.

    • @lexi219
      @lexi219 7 лет назад +4

      Agreed. Having a racial preference is one thing, but to actively filter out every person who isn't of that race is ignorant and prejudice. Just like I can say I prefer men over 5'10", but then I meet a good man who is 5'9" and refuse to date him because of that criteria. It's understandable to have preferences, but complete rejection over that piece of criteria is just stupid.

    It is my own personal taste and understanding, that measures these things and no one else's. For instance, what could be good looking to me wouldn't be to you, what intelligence is to me isn't the same to you. Those who measure beauty according to the media (or what someone else tells them is attractive), that may very well be the problem, ladies.
    As for race, that never mattered to me nor does culture/background; If I feel that spark, that's all need. I would say, I don't have a type; I can't visualize who I would end up with.
    Regardless, we can't tell people what they should be attracted to, can't judge them for what they aren't attracted to either.

    I mean, I don't know. If someone just isn't attracted to a darker skin color because maybe he doesn't find it pretty and this person wants to only hook up on a dating app -which is obviously only about the attractiveness and the appearance, maybe a tiny little bit about personality too- then I don't know why it should be wrong to say that somebody tanner or somebody brighter, is just not my type. Like it doesn't mean somebody's racist, just because he doesn't find certain things attractive and yeah obviously we shouldn't look at it as all of them, but stereotypes are stereotypes for a reason. Like for example asian people having different looking eyes than white people, you can't say all of them, but the majority of them do have asian eyes and maybe somebody just doesn't find that attractive, so instead of leaving asian in the filter and waiting for the 1 or 2 possibilities that somebody may don't have the things he isn't looking for in the first place, he just leaves it out. And I know racism is a big issue, I agree on that, but not EVERYTHING that has to do with race is automatically racist, because people with different races do look different. And it's okay like that, as long as you don't judge someone's personality or worth by the skin color or culture.

    There's nothing wrong having a preference, you like what you like. But if you have to go around and leave nasty remarks like I don't date such a such because off......, ect I been reading nasty, rude mean remarks like that etc, that means they are not happy with themselves,they are very bitter, because if you have to put your own people of gender down. People who date base off of skin color or race is setting themselves for failure. I date all races, regardless of race,creed, religion, skin color, etc There's beautiful women in all races, beautiful black women, beautiful white women, beautiful asian women, beautiful, hispanic women, beautiful indian women, beautiful african women, beautiful samoan women, etc

    I think it's great that people date outside their race because it exposes that person to a different culture. However I think it's terrible when people downgrade or disrespect their own race to uplift a race that they specifically chose dating or embrace. You can have preferences without pulling down the other options that you rejected. I always thought there was something wrong with person when they did that.....

    I've been told that I am racist (in a joking way supposedly) because I don't like to date men of my own kind anymore, that is Latin men. It's not that I don't like them (I am quite attracted to them) but it's because since I am latina the women in my family have had been married and had kids with latin men and they all cheated on them and that's that main reason why I don't date latin men, sorry not sorry but I don't trust them. I do like me some black men, but my preference is white men. And I will not apologize for it.

    I was talking to my partner recently about this topic: we both were born and raised in England, he lived in a multi cultural city and I lived in a very white populated town/village. I am half Filipino and half white and he is fully Caucasian. Me and my sister were the only Asian people in our school. Essentially, I have only dated maybe two people who are mixed, everyone has been pretty white. But they’re the only people who were around actually. My partner said he only felt attracted to Caucasian people until he was in secondary school, but he recognised this had more to do with not finding the right connection with someone more so than their ethnicity. I feel like by the time my world opened up when I went to university, and gained a broader perspective of different ethnicities and them being attractive. I decided to just stay within what is familiar, mainly because it was challenging for me to grow up in a mixed household, am also culturally process things differently to my mum and that causes miscommunication about beliefs. Anyway, what I’m saying is that maybe if multiculturalism is new to you it can make it a very exciting thing, and you become intrigued about finding a life partner with a new culture. For me, my partner makes me feel at home, he has a northern accent and we have common interests in 20th century Brit culture. I even think it would stress me out if my partner didn’t drink as much tea as me! It feels sad not making one for company, and is just a part of how everyone in the uk socialises. I think I bonded with being British in a household that had mixed views and wasn’t settled in other ways. I think I just want my future children to find more cultural stability than what I had.
