This time we take a look at WWE Smackdown! vs Raw for PS2, the first Smackdown vs Raw game in the series. While the game played similarly to the popular "Here Comes The Pain", although SD vs Raw did add some new gameplay mechanics; these included stare-downs, pushing contests and other mini-games that could take place before and during matches. Season mode and creation modes also got a few changes and updates, though some of Smackdown vs Raw's new additions weren't very well received.
The roster included new legends such as Bret Hart, Andre The Giant and Brutus Beefcake while many favourites returned from the main roster including The Undertaker, Shawn Michaels, John Cena and Kane.
Imagine being torrie Wilson's kid and playing this game 💀
Imagine being Torrie Wilson's grandchild bro... It's only a matter of time 😮
We're entering the era of WWE games with absolutely legendary soundtracks.
A lot of songs that I listened to this day were from this series soundtrack.
Smackdown vs Raw 2009 is what got me into metal
Divorced dad rock 😂
SVR til SVR 2010 soundtracks slap.
Man, I remember holding the game cover and reading the manual back to back whilst waiting to get home to play this masterpiece
Same!! That cover is classic
I had some of the most fun ive ever had with video games on this game.. royal rumble with friends at sleepovers was so fun
I got this game alongside with Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 on the PlayStation 2 on Christmas Day '04 when I was in my early teenage years during my middle school days.
No masterpiece this was tho lol
@@wingedhussar1453 it was
Can we just take a minute to appreciate how good the PS2 was as a console. The graphics and gameplay whether it's this or here comes the pain is crazy good for a second generation playstation!
Not going to take a whole minute, no. But yeah it was good
Especially gran turismo 4
@DragonyZombie2000 you will take that minute
Ps2 2004-2008 was console gaming at its peak - game and graphic combination wise
@JBC02 yeah. Hardware wise it was inferior to both xbox and Nintendo GameCube but still gave the most out of it which is why it's still so beloved till this day
This game is 20 years old right now. And I cannot believe everyone still like the Smackdown Vs. Raw game series after the most successful WWE Smackdown! Here Comes the Pain videogame on the PS2 from 2003. I got this game back in Christmas Day '04, alongside with Dragon Ball Z: Budokai 3 on the PlayStation 2 console system when I was in my early teenage years in the 2000s decade.
I have Shut yout mouth, but only played it once for fun. Racist how dark they Make Mark Henry in all the old games.
Ok bot
@@MC_BRASS "only played it once for fun" as opposed to what?
I'm honestly trying to remember if this was the Smackdown vs Raw game that gave me one of my most memorable wrestling game moment. The look of horror in Rey Mysterio's eyes as Andre the Giant performed a 619 and West Coast Pop on him.
I used to do this, except with Big Show.
@@fergalstackstreams If memory serves on of the challenge matches in one of the early Smackdown vs Raw games was one on one between Rey and Andre with the AI set on max difficulty and the player controlling Rey. The AI Andre loved copying the 619. I can't remember how many times I tried that match before succeeding, or how many times I watched friends try it.
@@roguerifter9724holy, bringing back memories. That was a tough one
@@fergalstackstreamsI did the 619 as Show during the Royal Rumble. I laughed my ass off.
After acquiring Torrie's services, he was renamed the UnderTakeHer.
Hahaha hahaha no
Bro I was like in the 4th grade playing the story mode as John Cena, when she pulled you into that shower I became a man at 10
“Do you take this woman?”
“As often as possible.”
😂 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽
After stealing peoples underwear he was called the undie taker
I loved the Divas in the main menu screens. I always used the Raw theme because I had a big crush on Trish back then.
We know what you was doing
@@tatsupazuzu did t we all haha
they need to bring that back
Sable ❤❤❤
It's the only reason why I DON'T want to go back to play these games. This isn't about crushes. They were objectifying women. And yes. They were also doing it to themselves, it doesn't matter, it's gross and sad that all women were rated as 60 rated wrestlers that only wrestled in their underwear, dancing on the menus for men, it's just wrong
another nostalgia filled game for me, i remember the adverts all over the TV with Powerman 5000 plastered all over them, got me sooooo hyped!
The memorable aspect of the game for me was the storyline with the women characters in season mode. I always played the SVR Season modes with created character,as it made more sense to play them than having wrestlers feel out of character as it felt in this game with Taker in places.
Something I think future SVR games were better at with the addition of player characters being voiced and better storylines written.
But I truly love the soundtrack for this one and the future ones, hearing FireFly on main menu never got old. Believe they used a fair bit of it for Day of Reckoning too.
"It's not the Undertaker's fault he's such a studmuffin" 😂 Your season mode walk-through was hilarious
This game came out right before my parents gifted me a ps2 along with this game for my birthday. It was the first wrestling game I had on a different console other than my gamecube......and man did I love this game as much as I loved Day of Reckoning 2 which stands as my all time favorite!
Day of reckoning 2 is so underrated. For a Nintendo exclusive it sure was the best looking wrestling game to date imo
Smackdown vs. Raw was my first introduction to WWE. After playing the game, I knew that I loved wrestling and I’ve been hooked on it ever since. This was a nice trip down memory lane.
I remember skipping school to stay home and play this game, so many memories
It was weird how it didn't have victory scenes for most matches, or titantrons for the legends. Honestly a one month delay would've done this game wonders.
Yes I never understood why this game never had victory motions
Honestly I'd rather they had skipped this year and just worked on svr2006 for 2 years.the game would have ben amazing .svr was no replayabitly and shallow
The soundtrack with this game was totally awesome and I love it plus the tradition of us doing the Royal Rumble I think started with this game.
This game also improved the Royal Rumble w/ the new "Ring-Out" meter.
Smackdown Vs Raw 06 was my return to wrestling games after a several year hiatus at the time. Very much looking forward to the next video!
The best part about the original SmackDown versus Raw game was the fact that you could have the menu screen set up as either the Raw or SmackDown theme. I always felt that was a nice touch that should’ve made its return in future WWE games and even when they introduced ECW you could’ve had that as an option.
Agree
And have Stacy Keibler, Torrie, Sable or Trish dancing in the menu
I recently replayed the SVR series and this one is underrated imo. Probably just felt lackluster coming off of HTCP
Hctp just has a more iconic roster but game play wise the svr games sans like 08,09,10 I'd take over hctp imo
@@thetruth619fulthats an incredibly bold take but i can respect it.
@@thetruth619fulI like em all more than 2k lol
The roster has no chance to compete
couldnt have put it better actually. still the best SVR for me
Zebrahead's Alone was hand down one of the best songs from this game and gets me hyped every time.
Falling apart was even more hype imo
Bring the Noise, When worlds collide, Falling Apart, Alone & The Angle
Just replayed 2007 on emulator and I enjoyed the hell out of it man. Some of these wrestling games never age I swear
That’s the best wrestling game ever made imo.
Same as me I still enjoy SVR 07
Forgot to mention this was the last original wrestling game. Every game after has just been an improvement of SVR formula
Even tho the game that came before this (Here comes the pain) was a better game, the 1st SVR game will forever hold a special place in my heart, as it was the 1st wrestling game I ever played. This game also had an amazing soundtrack & is most likely the reason I still listen to Breaking Benjamin to this day. 🤘
Smackdown vs Raw series was definitely one my favorites wrestling games. Since this was the first time i actually started wrestling, so yeah pretty cool.
To me, it was pretty cool when setting up your own events, they’d do little promo packages for the main event of that show. Which always added a dope touch to the game for me
I like how John Cena and Randy Orton were the focal points of this game as the future because they both lived up to it
I remember I couldn't get the game because I wasn't old enough so my mum went into Argos with the money that I saved I had happy memories with this game thank you for review it 👊
The soundtrack is a thing of beauty
This game is amazing i absolute love the soundtrack for this game the trailer is amazing the match types are awesome the season mode is so much fun the women's roster is lacking sucks that Lita wasn't in this game awesome video glad i still have this game on the Ps2 the entrances are great.
Short story about this game. Every spring and/or summer my cousins and I would go visit my grandmother in Ohio. Every time we visited, she would let us rent a couple games from Blockbuster while we’re there. I didn’t play this game until the spring or summer of 2005 (I can’t remember). I picked this game up and if my memory serves me correct, the first match I was Kane and one of my cousins were Kurt Angle. Throughout that visit I was so hooked to this game that when it was time for us to head back home in Michigan, I packed it in my book bag and like an hour after I got home she called asking where the game was so she can return it. I acted like I accidentally packed it and she had to pay Blockbuster $50. I still have the game but could never find the blockbuster case that it came in. I was 10 years old.
They need to put back the interactive stuff throughout the matches. And should be in longer ppv matches so it don’t get redundant. It should be spots that they be having in showcase modes. They also need crawling and reaching for the ropes in the games and holding on while ref counts. More heel and face actions. Grabbing tights to make pin escape tougher and building momentum faster for face and making them no sell.
Can't wait for the next one... SvR 2006 is my all time favorite wrestling game... yes, even over HCtP.
And I've been playing them since "Superstars" in the arcade!
“Undertaker’s like later losers, I’ve got a women’s dressing room I need to be in.” 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This along with HCTP were my go to games on the PS2, which I found the easiest to play.
This game is my personal favorite, the story mode where it culminates in you wrestling for the undisputed Champion title and both belts was amazing.
Oh my gawd! It's SmackDown! vs. RAW - Sports Entertainment will never be the same!
They should have added Lita,Miss Jackie,Gail Kim,Carlito,Nidia, and Dawn Marie in this game
As you cover wrestling games, would you be interested in doing a video covering the WWF Collectible Card Game, Raw Deal? I used the play the hell out of that game and I'd be interested in seeing what you felt of the game, if the wrestler's abilities and cards fitted their personalities, and how the game captured the feel of the attitude era and ruthless aggression wrestling eras. Anyway, another awesome video and I'm here for the long haul.
Fun Fact: the lead singer of Power Powerman 5000
Spider One is Rob Zombies' younger brother.
Charlie Haas went from “let go in peace” to “rest in peace” real quick
I will say the first trailer/opening sequence was my absolute fav out of all the games. It still gets me excited especially with last night on earth song by powerman 5000 playing. It also had one of the best soundtracks of any wrestling game!
Not as good as HCTP but acceptable. SvR 2006 was the next good SvR game. The season mode was very fun and the roster was very stacked. I still recommend it because is nostalgic.
And gm mode
I played this game so much and hardly played season modes or any of that stuff haha... it was just a million royal rumbles and i was already amazed that you could do any type of fight like steel cage, triple threat, ladder match all that
That intro was LEGENDARY!!!
I’ll put this as a top 5 wwe game,it was hard to top the OG,06-07 was better but the graphics, mechanics and soundtrack made SVR the great game that it was
this was my second video game I ever played, my first was Just Bring It, and oh my God I have such a soft spot for this game. 2004 is a good year to me so I love the roster despite the fact certain members aren’t there. I’m in love with the presentation though, the menus and the story revolving around the brand split is so great. I really wish I could’ve played the online mode.
and oh my lord the soundtrack is ICONIC to me, it’s so well rounded and memorable and it definitely helped shape my taste in music growing up
I remember playing it right after Benoit died and I was like five years old, I was never allowed to play as him again by my parents and he was all over the career mode in SVR, so I remember having to play the SummerSlam Eliminaton Chamber match with him, Orton, Shawn, Kane and Triple H on mute at like 6:00 AM one morning in fear that someone would see me playing against him lmao
The first SmackDown vs raw game is amazing
Noticed that after winning the characters dont celebrate and all we see is the wrestler's theme and characters standing in their stances.😂😂
This game has so much innuendo.
You meet a diva in a tile you get
Back rubs from em and more😂
You had me 😂 rolling on this one, brother. Good stuff.👍🏽
The intro had me feeling like I was a kid again! I remember I would turn the tv off for like 30 seconds waiting for the shower scene to pass so my parents didn’t see😂This was awesome to remember, thank you sir for the trip down memory lane!
This has the best "stored finisher" sound effect. The logo flash when a finisher is performed is cool. Also legend undertaker
Old Smackdown and WWE games were kinda good. 🐐
Only just realised its Vince McMahons face on the cover, thought it was some random guy for years 😂
Brings back memories of me & my friend watching the trailer with John cena & Randy orton for this game. We lost are minds watching & spoke about all the things we thought would be in the game. Good times man !!!
This game WAS my childhood. Many fond memories of all my buddies crowded around a CRT TV screaming at the screen. Starwars Battlefront, WRC Rally, Driver 2 all came second to this game. I've still got the soundtrack burned into my head.
I played this game so much that at some point I went full career mode with Chavo Guerrero and went undefeated lol
Still play this on PS2 the most . One of my all time favourite games ever. The create a wrestler mode makes everything so much more interesting
I remember going to my relatives house playing this, man I miss the mid/late 2000s.
“The first thing you notice…”😂
Whats even shocking that STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN WAS NOT AN UNLOCKABLE SUPERSTAR
The menus and music made this game worth a try.
Man this was my childhood..
THQ did a much better job than 2k the original svsr, 2006,2007,2009 and 2011 were the best games in my opinion but 2007 was special for me.. it was the best from all of them.. the gameplay was nearly perfect.. the control you had was just insane.. these games were such great games.. and 2k destroyed everything
It was suppose to be "WWE SmackDown! vs. RAW 2005"
Oh ! This one brings lots of nostalgic memories for me I also play this with my cousin too. 👍👍 And again I spend lots of time with the season mode and create a wrestler . I enjoy playing this one
Graphic upgraded a lil from the previous … but it was overall a demotion from HCTP unfortunately 😭
Roster wise should’ve included : Test, Steiner, Goldberg, Lesnar, Nunzio, stamboli, Conway, Grenier, Noble… that’s all I think of as of now…
SmackDown here comes the pain is the best one ever 💯 🔥
The way taker walked with torrie 😂😂😂😂
The Angle - Core … NUFF SAID
Played this at a mates house, picked it up a short while later, became my introduction to wrestling and have been a fan ever since
This is my favorite wrestling game next to Here Comes the Pain,
This was the first wrestling game i've seen in person at a friend's house.
He was always playing it doing every single thing
12:22 it was nice to see the Undertaker with the whole deadman entrance after years of biker Taker.
Ill admit the divas on the menus screen is what i love about this game😂😂
I loved this game. It was also my berry first wrestling game.
Great game, but man its awkward if mom or grandma walk in and see the dancing divas on every menu. Making them wonder if your playing a stripper game.
This game also came in a collection
Pack as well.
I met a guy who worked at THQ back in the day as a junior level programmer. The original plan was call is SmackDown! Resurrection with The Undertaker being on the cover. If you recall, this was several months after he came back as The Phenom.
Playing the first SVR game 🎮 takes me back to my high school days 😢.
This was one of my first PS3 games. The music was very memorable, powerman, zebrahead, muddle of Mudd, etc.
@guyincognito6582my mistake, it was so long ago. I had both consoles that I forgot which one I was playing it on, I swear it was PS3
I'd really love to see you continue to play out the rest of the story mode ! These videos are amazing I love the comments
Awesome.
Content that never stops being entertaining.
Another enjoyable video. Beat line throughout was “coach thinks it’s a good idea for me to take part in a tornado tag match but I think coach can go f*** himself” 😂
I completely forgot Kurt angle was Smackdown GM back in the day
I remember seeing *The Undertaker* on Smackdown circa 06' as a kid. Got this game right after, and the rest is history.
In terms of fighting gameplay . Best of all time
SvR was a decent game but it's not as good as HCTP before it, or 06 after it. I think removing the free roaming backstage fighting during matches was the biggest blow. Some of the Early match mechanics were a good idea although maybe not executed the best, the Clean/Dirty mechanics isn't really that great and Post WM XX 2004 WWE isn't really remembered very fondly by most so not too many people are going to praise this roster.
Can't wait for the Smackdown vs Raw 2006 review I absolutely loved that game 🔥
This was my first wrestling game. So many hours in it.
So many childhood memories!
I remember playing this on the good ol PS2. These games were definitely a big part of my childhood.
My first exposure to wwe games was SVR 2006.
Smackdown vs Raw 2006 and 2007 were my favorite games growing up. I loved No Mercy and Here Comes The Pain as well when I was younger just button mashing controllers. But SvR 2006-07 were the first games where I was at an age to understand the games and wrestling fully. THQ and Yukes made *extremely* fun games, which is weird when you see how Fight Forever came to be. It's fun, just feels uncomplete overall.
This is the svr game with no post match winning animation.
This one has a special place in my heart. This is one of the first games I got when I got my fat ps2 for Christmas
I loved Here Comes the Pain so much, that I bought this game at launch. I played for a few hours and was so disappointed in the gameplay that I returned the game to Gamestop for my traded HCtP copy, minus $20 overall. I didn't buy another wrestling game at launch since...
I love the Smackdown versus Raw Games you seem kind of nitpicky
Here Comes The Pain will forever be the GOAT
Svr 06>>>>
💯
The only wrestler you can't play as in the season mode is Kurt Angle because he's the Smackdown GM in season mode.
“Stud muffin Undertaker” 😂😂😂
