Pretty generous of you. I have Pocket 2 and also contemplating to get Pocket 3. I can still use P2 for simultaneous recording in different angles. I’m no pro but that’s what I see from other vloggers. They even have 6 cameras for one video recording. Pocket 3 is better I think as compared with Canon V10 for its gimbal features. V10 is shaky when you walk while recording.
One great thing to add-on about the new battery handle is: the pocket 3 will use the power from the battery handle first. Meaning you can technically plugin the handle, then unplug and charge the handle (with a powerbank maybe), then repeat to get 'infinite power' to continue shooting video until the memory card is full.
I see this as a bad, not futureproof and NOT sustainable system, as with modern headphones and their charging cases. The devices battery is harmed the most by always charging from like 95 to 100% and keeping there (while used...) and in general charging a battery with a battery (with a battery,....) is... nonsense. If there would be (easily user) replacable LiIon cells inside, why not, but this glued batteries in probably not possible to open cases... nope, not for me at all as a electrical engineer who love to replace, maintain, upgrade and repair his own devices for longer usability
@@harrison00xXx that is a very good point. I stopped buying laptops because of how fast the batteries go bust with 8-hours a day of heavy use (mostly video and audio work). It used to be that you could just take out the battery when doing desktop work, which honestly is at least 80% of what most of us do.
@@Herfinnur Funnily enough - At laptops i really liked this move towards integrated battery packs, at least when it was done properly as for example apple did with using ANY free space for another size of battery pack and combine all those packs into a single, huge >70 Wh battery in a compact notebook. Thats also a nice advantage to have on my 16" M1 Pro Macbook, 99Wh battery combined with efficient ARM hardware, i can run this notebook for 4-15 hours depending on the usecase. The main component which really drains the battery the fastest... display. With my 100Wh USB-C powerbank i can basically double the MacBooks runtime (never needed yet). But yeah, on the new M1 MacBooks, i would not be against a removable battery either since i dont care if the notebook lasts 10 or 8 hours, both is industry leading and "long enough".

Thats really true for all of my windows notebooks i ever had and still have such as my 17" HP Omen with RTX 2080. Except for one, a cheap Acer for school once, but this notebook was horrendous on battery: slow and lasting for 40-100 minutes.... A typical MacBook should be used more on battery than on AC/desktop. Still, some users have the MacBooks for real 24/7 on AC, thats really a shame to see such a device built for mobility and battery usage to get the battery destroyed with desktop/AC usage only. I personally have on my 16" M1 Pro, built beginning 2021 soon 400 charging cycles and a already slowly degrading battery at about 86-88% health, its used heavily both, on TV or desktop setup via AC or mobile usage either standalone or combined with iPad as 2nd screen. its like 25% TV, 25% desktop on AC and on battery on the go 50% usage. But as a MacBook user since 2009 (2009, 2010 and 2021 model) i have to say as well: We typically even try to avoid the charging brick to take with us, that was since ever the "magic" of MacBooks, they were usable fast on battery, and lasted much longer than windows notebooks.
Nice, thanks for the side by sides. So far I have yet to see enough to see the differences. I got the Pocket 1 and did not see any reason to upgrade. But the P3 looks interesting. But with that said, the 10bit is overrated as it always is if its not 4:2:2. All 10 bit does in 4:2:0 is reduce color banding.
Exactly. However, I found the normal color profile to be quite good and with just a slight amount of the saturation it looks pretty nice. The log footage be color graded very nicely to look however, you want.
blowing out the exposure for foreground over background is not increased dynamic range. Those first shots just exposed for the face and completely blew out the mountinas behind. You can see the detail in the Osmo 2 shots.
are you sure? I can see more of everything in the pocket 3 video compared to the pocket 2. look at the glacier snow in the mountains behind me in those shots...
1, Can the mimo app controll the pocket 3 via a usbC cable? 2. Can the mimo app direct the camera via physically pointing the phone in the direction youd like to record?
Thanks for the in-depth video! Very helpful. By any chance, how is the Camera zoom quality? I've had the Pocket 2 and love it. But I wasn't sure if it was simply a digital zoom? It always looked pretty good when it was bright and sunny out, but I guess the quality does degrade a bit when you view it on the computer. It's way more noticeable when it's any bit darker, and then of course it's all pretty bad when it's decently dark, to very dark. I'm definitely going to pick up the Pocket 3, once we pay off our Sony A7IV, and FX30, lol. Sucks the Pocket 2 mic isn't compatible, but I guess that means I can just keep using my Pocket 2 as an extra camera for our weddings 🤙 Hopefully the new mic has a bit better range, but beyond that I haven't had any complaints with the quality on my Pocket 2 mic.
I have the pocket 2 but it was slow to start up and get going. How much faster is the Pocket 3. It would be cool to see it. I love the Pocket 2 so I ordered the Pocket 3. Also we need to see how the Pocket 3 and Action 4 play together.

I was looking at getting an insta360 link for a webcam but im wondering if I should get one of these dji pocket 2 or 3 instead. at least then i can take it out and use it to make videos. Is there a Native webcam mode with pocket 2? i know there is on the new pocket 3, but any advice would be great, thanks!
The only let down for me is the size of pocket 3. 😢 the reason why I want this is because I'm too shy to record video in public places, that's why I want something small, something doesn't attract too much attention and they don't see the huge screen. So I guess I will go for Pocket 2.
Great comparison Jake! The pocket 3 image quality looks way closer to micro Four Thirds than it has any right to for its size! Alaska looks beautiful. I live on the other side of the planet but maybe one day I’ll visit the state.
Supplementary comment, Jake. Mine arrived this morning, so I went out and shot with it immediately. WOW, this camera is incredible! The dynamic range is amazing, the skin tones are REAL, the resolution is fabulous, and the ease of use makes me lament my R6 MKII’s myriad controls (which I used alongside the Pocket 3 today, plus the DJI Action 4). The wireless mic is great (32-bit, yay!!), and the in-body mics are sensational. This is my new go-to b-roll, in-car, and walk & talk camera.
@@JakeSloan So much better than I expected. I think I’ll be using this for most of my in-car, walk & talk, and b-roll footage from now on. It’s dynamic range in harsh, high-contrast conditions is better than the iPhone 14 Pro, and it displays none of that crazy skin toning or colour shifting. I’m completely in love with it.
This is a fringe case use, but I was wondering how it would fare as a webcam/livestream camera. Can it track you while using it as a webcam? I was wondering if it could follow me in the kitchen while making food or something while livestreaming :)
I did a live stream with this one but I wasn't able to get tracking to work with it, however someone told me you can, I just haven't been able to test it yet

Excellent Review! I really like that you compared the two side by side so that I can see if the P3 is better than the P2 that I have been using. Now I know what the differences are and that the 3 is a much-needed improvement starting with eh 1 in. sensor.

Like all others - the newest is better. How about the colour science in the new one looks blown out and it’s way too big to pocket anymore! No worth the upgrade.
Not really about the 1inch sensor, its about the bigger pixels. This is first time when you have a sensor that makes sense, its 4k sensor and not some ridiculous 64MP sensor with tiny pixels.
FYI Active track does work in webcam mode. If you double click the joystick it will start tracking in selfie mode or triple clock for front face mode. Not sure why you can’t click on the screen or why it doesn’t just auto start active track.
Definitely like the video of the 2 way better than the 3. Im not a fan of background blur at all, its a horrible effect that is WAY over used. I like seeing the detail in the background and i like 1080p way better than 4k. The 3 was so digital looking, like over processed and fake and for me that means I dont like it or want it. Some obvious likes on the 3, the playback monitor size and the wide angle add on, other than that, the 2 definitely fits what i like much better and i can buy one used for less rhan 200 bucks vs the 600 for the 3. Something I've wondered about is, maybe oddly (or maybe it's be mentioned somewhere before - sorry to be redundant, if so), you often wear a red jacket when outdoors, a color that I would think helps with a camera's subject tracking. Have you thought about wearing a more muted color that would be more challenging for a camera? (Maybe a camera isn't relying on color, though?) 👍
the camera relies on contrast for tracking, I tested it in pretty low light without a red jacket and it worked well. The red jacket is for a reason, but it's not tracking. its for scale when I am standing in landscapes using drones
I see the Pocket 2 can receive a signal from two transmitters, can you buy a single dji mic2 transmitter separately, I cant see that option on their website.
interesting: some of the shots at the beginning of the video: i like the POcket2 more... the background is too much blured for me on that shots with the POcket3... the pocket2 has still some blur, so does not look like smartphone-footage..
Thanks my question is how this compares to the Insta360 X3. My DJI pocket 2 was stolen in Aruba in December and since this was not out I replaced it with the X3. I have convinced myself that the x3 is just better. I can do what the Pocket 2 but also do the 360 video in 5K. I also was concerned about breaking the pocket 2... never happened but the only be was to me that I cold shoot and post no editing but with the x3 I have to reframe and edit before I post. Technically that is a benefit because you get everything and pick what you want later but it is an extra step. What I am trying to ask is what is the killer feature here that makes this worth me dropping another $750 no less carrying another camera if I am carrying the Iphone /Galaxy, the insta x3 for 360, the go2 for pov, and a dji drone. its bad enough the go pro has been relegated to a webcam. Is there something here has would make me want to slide this in my pocket compared to any of those? Sub $500 i would have impulse bought it and oh well but when it cost more than the insta x3 that doesn't make sense unless I'm missing something. Thanks

I have Pocket 2 and X3. There is a lot of over lap with the cameras and at first I wasn’t sure if the pocket 2 still had a place for me but there are important differences. Even with the pocket 2 low light is MUCH better then the X3, and you can get high quality stabilized 4K 60 with pocket 2 as well which we can only dream of doing from reframed 360 video from consumer 360 cameras. It’s up to you and your use case but I think both have their advantages in different situations.
To sum it up differences --------------- X3 Pros: - Unique 360 video/3rd person view - Reframe in post/precise camera moves - Water Proof - Removable battery - tripod adapter built in X3 cons: - Low resolution/quality after reframing - Bad in Low light - Still kinda fragile with exposed lenses --------------------- Osmo Pocket series in general Pros - Gimbal stabilized 4K 60 video (4K 120 on pocket 3) - better in low light (even earlier pocket cameras), no weird blurring or stabilization artifacts in low light - (Pocket 3 only) 10 bit video for better color grading - (Pocket 3 only) some shallower depth of field with bigger sensor Pocket series Cons: - No reframe/ 360 - Not waterproof - Very delicate - non removable internal battery - relies heavily on accessories/ adapters like Tripod adapter and no wireless built in on earlier pockets

Which one is more accurate to the human eye? Like when I record or take pictures from my iPhone I found that it didn’t really capture the moment as I see it. Like the lighting is way different
I think the pocket three is personally, but it’s always a challenge to capture something exactly as your eyes see it even with much more expensive pro Level cameras
DJI pocket 4 should have 2 camera. One is main camera and one is zoom camera. Or a point and shot camera in a gimbal. Digital zoom makes lower quality of video.
So what happens if you turn the gimbal sideways? Doe it go into vertical mode like the original pocket? If so, how does it compare to the cropped vertical mode

Great Videos, I have mine ordered. Noticed some of your night shots were from Des Moines! The blue lit up building is visible out of my condo window. Also, question, is the 32bit recording also what is on the video track? Or is the only way to get the 32 bit audio is to access the microphone file after the fact?
Oh, that’s cool! I was there for 24 hours for work and loved every minute. The 32-bit audio is only accessible from the DJ mic. The camera audio is still recording at 24-bit.

Nice review. One question, did they remove the tripod mount from the bottom of the Pocket 3? I really hope they didn't because that was one of the best features(for me at least) on the Pocket 2.
Jake, I saw in another video that the DJI mic system (with trans and 2 receivers also works with the pocket 3. You just need to plug the receiver into the camera and you have two mics. It's available if you need it.
Beware of paid reviews I have a Pocket 2, It will not connect to my phone. My Moto G Stylus 5 G is not on the very small list of Compatable phones. If I can not connect to my phone, This is a steaming Pile of Crap.

No eres honesto. Hablas de las diferencias que tiene para mejor, pero no hablas de las cosas importantes que se pierden con la nueva revisión de la Osmo. En ningún momento has hablado de los botones multi función que tiene la 2. No nos dices que en la 3 hemos perdido botones de acceso rápido duante la grabación como el bloqueo del gimbal, cambio en la palanca entre zoom y giro manual del gimbal, modo foto/vídeo, modos de comportamiento del gimbal (seguimiento, fpv, horizonte fijo), cambio entre el modo normal y selfie, centrado del gimbal... etc. Eso sin contar que tampoco cuentas que esta cámara tiene un micro menos que la 2, o que el rango del gimbal es inferior a la 2... etc.
Sounds like you should do the comparison then… many of those “changes” you mention have zero effect on the end use. Also some of the things you say have not changed at all…
I fiddled with the Pocket 3 today. It's MUCH BIGGER in size. I am still considering. But hey the new extensions diconnect much easier, the old ones you have to really put some force to pull it out.

I had the same question. I asked dji on their support forum and they said yes but Jake says no in this video (at 9:00) but I think we might be able to connect the receiver via usb-c).
You can connect them via USB C. They cannot be wirelessly paired with the pocket 3. But I did test mine out, and when connected be a USB-C, both transmitters send audio to the pocket three no problem.

Ah yea, another stick for people who can't get enough video of them talking to a camera or taking selfies. This won't replace any pros FF camera and lenses they use in their studio. The TikTok crowd should love this one though.
Dude I kind of want this lol. It has great features but I am afraid of it's durability. I go into places where I get liquid thrown at me and sometimes sprayed with oc. My iphone with a case has great protection.
I have used the Pocket 1 and 2, and one main issue I find is that while we are walking and recording, even though this is a gimbal with stabilization, the video still goes up and down with the walking momentum. However, when using the Action 4 action camera, that does not happen. So, what is the use of this product when the Osmo Action 4 can do everything better? For me personally, the size of this product was tempting since the Pocket 2 was very small, but now it's much bigger. So, I don't understand what position this product fits in.
Well... I don’t really like the bokeh. I prefer background with sharp details ...and it’s impossible to change the aperture I guess... I find the pocket 3 over expose the bright zones . There is no more shadow.It looks unreal and not contrasty. Is it possible to underexpose with EV on the pocket 3? I think I will replace my old pocket 2 by a new pocket 2. I dislike the bokeh,the over exposed videos with the flashy snow,the bulkyness of the new one. The pocket 3 must tick all the box to be a trendy new portable cam but after waiting so long for the new one,I am disappointed...
You can choose to under expose by .3.7 or .1 stops or you can also set all the controls manually and have it exposed exactly the way you want it to be.
Nice review... love the shots around the Independence Mine. That said I am wondering how the battery life will differ with the 3 vs the 2, as living here in Fairbanks things get a bit cooler so batteries don't last as long so that's always a big concern of mine.
about 1.5 hours before the battery dies or if you have it connected to external power for MUCH longer, I assume eventually it would shut down due to heat possibly depending on how hot it is where you are filming
All the features are great but i'm curious about your post production workflow. The problem I have is shooting all this footage but just letting it sit when I travel I don't bring a laptop so I'm looking for a true mobile way to produce videos.
I travel a lot and use the iPad Pro 2022 in 11 inches (light and small) with LumaFusion for film editing and Photoshop Mobile for photos. This and a mini pro 3 drone, all this doesn’t take space in my backpack 👍🏻
One of the travel vloggers/vanlifers I watch has also said she only uses her phone (no iPad or laptop at all) with lumafusion to do her entire channel!

no but the phone can connect wirelessly to the gimbal via the mimo app and you can control it that way

You can’t pair it but you can plug in the NBA USB-C, and the audio will go to the pocket 3 from both transmitters no problem
I have the pocket 2 but it was slow to start up and get going. How much faster is the Pocket 3. It would be cool to see it. I love the Pocket 2 so I ordered the Pocket 3. Also we need to see how the Pocket 3 and Action 4 play together.

I was looking at getting an insta360 link for a webcam but im wondering if I should get one of these dji pocket 2 or 3 instead. at least then i can take it out and use it to make videos. Is there a Native webcam mode with pocket 2? i know there is on the new pocket 3, but any advice would be great, thanks!

Most of the footage from the 2 looks better imo the pocket 3 has a overexposed kind of look to it i dont think its a very pleasing image.

The only let down for me is the size of pocket 3. 😢 the reason why I want this is because I'm too shy to record video in public places, that's why I want something small, something doesn't attract too much attention and they don't see the huge screen. So I guess I will go for Pocket 2.

Supplementary comment, Jake. Mine arrived this morning, so I went out and shot with it immediately. WOW, this camera is incredible! The dynamic range is amazing, the skin tones are REAL, the resolution is fabulous, and the ease of use makes me lament my R6 MKII’s myriad controls (which I used alongside the Pocket 3 today, plus the DJI Action 4). The wireless mic is great (32-bit, yay!!), and the in-body mics are sensational. This is my new go-to b-roll, in-car, and walk & talk camera.

It’s dynamic range in harsh, high-contrast conditions is better than the iPhone 14 Pro, and it displays none of that crazy skin toning or colour shifting. I’m completely in love with it.
This is a fringe case use, but I was wondering how it would fare as a webcam/livestream camera. Can it track you while using it as a webcam?

There is no underwater case at the moment, but I hope that somebody create one
Not really about the 1inch sensor, its about the bigger pixels. This is first time when you have a sensor that makes sense, its 4k sensor and not some ridiculous 64MP sensor with tiny pixels.
True. The one inch sensor has more space and they went for larger pixels instead of high mp count.
FYI Active track does work in webcam mode. If you double click the joystick it will start tracking in selfie mode or triple clock for front face mode. Not sure why you can’t click on the screen or why it doesn’t just auto start active track.

Definitely like the video of the 2 way better than the 3. Im not a fan of background blur at all, its a horrible effect that is WAY over used. I like seeing the detail in the background and i like 1080p way better than 4k. The 3 was so digital looking, like over processed and fake and for me that means I dont like it or want it. Some obvious likes on the 3, the playback monitor size and the wide angle add on, other than that, the 2 definitely fits what i like much better and i can buy one used for less rhan 200 bucks vs the 600 for the 3.

Something I've wondered about is, maybe oddly (or maybe it's be mentioned somewhere before - sorry to be redundant, if so), you often wear a red jacket when outdoors, a color that I would think helps with a camera's subject tracking. Have you thought about wearing a more muted color that would be more challenging for a camera? (Maybe a camera isn't relying on color, though?) 👍
the camera relies on contrast for tracking, I tested it in pretty low light without a red jacket and it worked well. The red jacket is for a reason, but it's not tracking. its for scale when I am standing in landscapes using drones

Thanks my question is how this compares to the Insta360 X3. My DJI pocket 2 was stolen in Aruba in December and since this was not out I replaced it with the X3. I have convinced myself that the x3 is just better. I can do what the Pocket 2 but also do the 360 video in 5K. I also was concerned about breaking the pocket 2... never happened but the only be was to me that I cold shoot and post no editing but with the x3 I have to reframe and edit before I post. Technically that is a benefit because you get everything and pick what you want later but it is an extra step. What I am trying to ask is what is the killer feature here that makes this worth me dropping another $750 no less carrying another camera if I am carrying the Iphone /Galaxy, the insta x3 for 360, the go2 for pov, and a dji drone. its bad enough the go pro has been relegated to a webcam. Is there something here has would make me want to slide this in my pocket compared to any of those? Sub $500 i would have impulse bought it and oh well but when it cost more than the insta x3 that doesn't make sense unless I'm missing something. Thanks
I think with what you have already you don't need to get this as well, the x3 is fantastic. The only place this will beat that out is in lower light

I have Pocket 2 and X3. There is a lot of over lap with the cameras and at first I wasn’t sure if the pocket 2 still had a place for me but there are important differences. Even with the pocket 2 low light is MUCH better then the X3, and you can get high quality stabilized 4K 60 with pocket 2 as well which we can only dream of doing from reframed 360 video from consumer 360 cameras. It’s up to you and your use case but I think both have their advantages in different situations.

DJI pocket 4 should have 2 camera. One is main camera and one is zoom camera. Or a point and shot camera in a gimbal. Digital zoom makes lower quality of video.

Also, question, is the 32bit recording also what is on the video track? Or is the only way to get the 32 bit audio is to access the microphone file after the fact?
Oh, that’s cool! I was there for 24 hours for work and loved every minute. The 32-bit audio is only accessible from the DJ mic. The camera audio is still recording at 24-bit.

Nice review. One question, did they remove the tripod mount from the bottom of the Pocket 3? I really hope they didn't because that was one of the best features(for me at least) on the Pocket 2.
they did but you can add a small handle that has a 1/4 20 on it and moves the USB-c port to the rear
When holding a camera is it getting hot in your hands while filming 4k 60fps? Pocket 2 is getting hot for sure

Jake, I saw in another video that the DJI mic system (with trans and 2 receivers also works with the pocket 3. You just need to plug the receiver into the camera and you have two mics. It's available if you need it.

Beware of paid reviews I have a Pocket 2, It will not connect to my phone. My Moto G Stylus 5 G is not on the very small list of Compatable phones. If I can not connect to my phone, This is a steaming Pile of Crap.

No nos dices que en la 3 hemos perdido botones de acceso rápido duante la grabación como el bloqueo del gimbal, cambio en la palanca entre zoom y giro manual del gimbal, modo foto/vídeo, modos de comportamiento del gimbal (seguimiento, fpv, horizonte fijo), cambio entre el modo normal y selfie, centrado del gimbal... etc.
Eso sin contar que tampoco cuentas que esta cámara tiene un micro menos que la 2, o que el rango del gimbal es inferior a la 2... etc.
Sounds like you should do the comparison then… many of those “changes” you mention have zero effect on the end use. Also some of the things you say have not changed at all…
I fiddled with the Pocket 3 today. It's MUCH BIGGER in size. I am still considering. But hey the new extensions diconnect much easier, the old ones you have to really put some force to pull it out.

the application is the same (dji mimo) and so it works pretty much the same
The background blur on the pocket 3 is that permanent or can you disable it in settings?
it is physics so if you are closer to the camera there will be more blur farther away and it will be less or disappear completely

I had the same question. I asked dji on their support forum and they said yes but Jake says no in this video (at 9:00) but I think we might be able to connect the receiver via usb-c).
You can connect them via USB C. They cannot be wirelessly paired with the pocket 3. But I did test mine out, and when connected be a USB-C, both transmitters send audio to the pocket three no problem.

I have used the Pocket 1 and 2, and one main issue I find is that while we are walking and recording, even though this is a gimbal with stabilization, the video still goes up and down with the walking momentum. However, when using the Action 4 action camera, that does not happen. So, what is the use of this product when the Osmo Action 4 can do everything better? For me personally, the size of this product was tempting since the Pocket 2 was very small, but now it's much bigger. So, I don't understand what position this product fits in.

The pocket 3 must tick all the box to be a trendy new portable cam but after waiting so long for the new one,I am disappointed...
You can choose to under expose by .3.7 or .1 stops or you can also set all the controls manually and have it exposed exactly the way you want it to be.
I have the original Pocket (1?). It's a piece of crap. Never really used it.

Nice review... love the shots around the Independence Mine. That said I am wondering how the battery life will differ with the 3 vs the 2, as living here in Fairbanks things get a bit cooler so batteries don't last as long so that's always a big concern of mine.
the battery life on the pocket 3 is much better than the pocket 2 but in our cold weather it will definitely suffer
On the new gadget, the detail is worse. the image for some reason is not sharp. It is lighter, but it seems that it is not 4 k
it's because we now have sharpness control and I have lowered mine to be more natural not the over sharpened look of the pocket 2

about 1.5 hours before the battery dies or if you have it connected to external power for MUCH longer, I assume eventually it would shut down due to heat possibly depending on how hot it is where you are filming

All the features are great but i'm curious about your post production workflow. The problem I have is shooting all this footage but just letting it sit when I travel I don't bring a laptop so I'm looking for a true mobile way to produce videos.
for this I did almost no editing (color grading etc) just clipped the video to the moments I wanted and it was good to go
I travel a lot and use the iPad Pro 2022 in 11 inches (light and small) with LumaFusion for film editing and Photoshop Mobile for photos. This and a mini pro 3 drone, all this doesn’t take space in my backpack 👍🏻
