I remember it was a suffering hot summer, and I'm a winter person. The "good" time of year rolled around for me again, and it was that year's first snow, on a mellow hour of the evening, nonetheless. I had achieved my wheels back after not being able to afford a car for four years. Then I broke the ungodly 9 month long sober barrier. I took a nice cold cruise and rolled myself a giant. Then this "Fryerstarter" song broke into the speakers and I reflected about how I had just landed a secure job, had friends on my side, and how grateful I was about my new partner. I was instantly a child again and I felt as if everything bad in my life never happened. It was heaven on earth. Just me, the snow, the secluded shores of MD, and my victory.

I know he's been making music for a LOOONG time, but I only first found out about and started listening to Aes in 2008 when someone at my high school passed away in a car accident. Following his death, I checked out his MySpace page (popular at the time) and he had Aesop's "None Shall Pass" as his profile song. Immediately fell in love with Aes then, but after the release of Skelethon I'm convinced he's the greatest rapper alive. Whether it's flow, lyrical content, or production, his all around style is fresh and vibrant. I've listened to this record so many times I've memorized nearly all of the lyrics to every song on this LP and I still come back for more. So, so, so good. I can't wait for his newest full album.

I think this song completely redefined what I am willing to call GREAT art anymore.
Full roller-coaster ride from the opening tone swells... nostalgic familial comfort, to looming suspense, through sheer terror, to wet-eyed joyous relief at the words "good dog". Every time. It's like visual art for the ears. He took 2 minutes to do what Darren Aronofsky needed 90 minutes to build up to with "Pi" or "Requiem", but then landed it with a happy ending.
Similarly (minus any happy ending), "Fumes" final line "no she didn't, yes she did" can hit me the same way sometimes.

Aesop grows on you, the more you listen the more you will tune into his genius lyrics, though you'll probably only give him a chance for his incredible flow if you aren't a fan of decrypting music. After a while you start tuning into the connections and understanding the song bit by bit, line by line, untill you can begin to patch the lines together. At first it sounds completely random, but they are not random, i assure you.

First time I encountered Aes, I didn't like hip-hop. I related it to "artists" like lil wayne or gucci mane. I thought hip-hop was some overly corrupt branch of the music industry, much like alt rock or pop, where "artists" didn't write their own music or lyrics.
Aesop, the first time I listened to him, was very jarring. So much so that I didn't like it. (labor days). Then I checked out The impossible kid and I fucking loved it. I listened to that album exclusively for over a month. Day in, day out. Then I started listening to his earlier work like none shall pass and labor days, I still found it a bit jarring, but I kept on listening to it, cause I knew the dude had fucking talent.
I guess this sort of music is like jazz, where as you really need to understand the art before you can appreciate it, let alone love it.
Aes' music introduced me to a whole new spectrum of music, and I'll forever appreciate him for that. Keep at it, Aes. You're kind of a hero of mine.

I am the only one who loves the drums on this album? From their dirty sound, to how complicated and multi-structured the percussions are? Of course, all those small beeping keyboards sometimes popping up are cool as hell.
I love how flexible Aesop can be with his production.

What each song is actually about for those who don't get what he's saying or are too lazy to do some research:
1.Leisureforce - Living the life as a recluse, pretty much staying at home all day with your cat taking a nap or playing videogames.
2.ZZZ Top - The life of 3 different teenagers growing through life and finding out what they like. The first kid writes Zoso in his desk, meaning he a fan of rock. The second kid writes Zulu, he's a fan of rap and the third one Zeros meaning he's a fan of punk rock.
3.Cycles to Gehenna - Gehenna is a place at Jerusalem where they dump trash, dead bodies and other nasty ass shit like that. It's also the place where Jesus described as the Lake of Fire when the Apocalypse happens and the Devil gets burned. The song itself it's about a dude riding a motorcycle too fast and crashing and dying, hence the "Gehenna"
4.Zero Dark Thirty - That one goddamn time in life where you grow up and realize your an adult and has to deal with shit by yourself. The song rapid-pace is to resemble how everything changes really fast.
5.Fryestarter - An allusion to the Christian heaven, but actually being about a donut shop at San Francisco, CA owned by Bob. When Aes moved from NY to CA, the shop was one of the most comfortable places for him to hang out cause it hit home and was really "New York-ish"
6.Ruby '81 - The story about a Beagle dog saving a kid from drowning back in July 4th, 1981 during a family pool party.
7/8.Crows 1 & 2 - Songs about graveyards, a physical to "re-encountering" with your dead friends in this dark place that gets haunted at night.
9.Racing Stripes - Aes gets philosophical about getting a bad haircut.
10.1,000 O'Clock - When you wake up one day and feel tired of the routine and says "Fuck this shit" and wanna do something different with your life after everything gets boring.
11.Homemade Mummy - After your cat/pet dies, this is the best guide for you to mummify it at home and use it as a Halloween feature at your house, yay! Yea.. that's it basically. And its also about following your heart, and not your brain.
12.Grace - A song about how much Aes fucking hated vegetables, (specially green beans) as a kid and never wanted to eat them.
13.Saturn Missiles - What goes on in the mind of a kid daily and what he/she listens to it everyday from their parents when they do shit they ain't allowed to, it narrates from the beginning until the end of the childhood, when the kid becomes interested in.. other things. Saturn could be a vagina/dick and the Missile the aim for it.
14.Tetra - This is Aes official shit-talking song. It's basically a braggadocious track about how dope he is at rapping and how other rappers can't fuck with him or his bars. He goes in, dayum. ON ANOTHER NOTE, the whole song is a double entendre, could also be viewed from a depressed sociopath teenager who just broke up with his girlfriend and it's ready to kill somebody or in the worst case, kill himself.
15.Gopher Guts - An introspecting song about Aes' relationship with other people, such as his family members. He thinks that just because you may have a blood bond with somebody, it doesn't mean you have an emotional one, hence the mention of his mom on the first verse. He also speaks on how sometimes in his life he was asshole for people who cared for him and just wanted to help him but he always seemed to push 'em away somehow.
    Hope that helps yo

Well for Gopher Guts its a bit more in depth, the three snakes, frogs, etc throughout the song represent his brothers and him self (or all young people). The animals are disliked, disgusting creatures and are taken, told they are amazing then thrown into the real world without any real preparation for it. People only realize the flaw of this after its too late hence the "oh" after each chorus.
