Anyone who says his raps are just big words with no meaning isn't thinking hard enough. This is literature. It forces you to think critically and is open to multiple interpretations.

Why I appreciate Aesop is because he started vastly different from everyone and stayed that way. He took an art, took the pieces apart and put them back together his way, and it resulted in a unique style of vivid storytelling and a lyric book for each song. I can't compare him to anyone else because he's doing his own thing in his own world and I love it.

Aesop's work won't lose it's authenticity the way 70% of solo attention crazed decent artists who abuse their power of word do. It's rappers like Him, Aristotle, Action Bronson and Watsky who need to watch their backs for big stinky hollywood snakes knocking on their door looking to give them hell to pay when they've been real a lot longer in their life than artists like Kanye and Jay-Z have been in comparison, and I'm not just singling them out due to white, polish, detroit and white comparisons. Sickest part about these songs is their story from Aesops perspective as a rapper.
He's stated as hating DayLight and loving NightLight, so my theory is this:
Aesop wrote NightLight as a parody of DayLight, a song he hates to perform, and made it specifically something he knew he'd love performing every single time.

Aesop is such an amazing artist and light years ahead of most so called rappers lol his verses are poetic as fuck and complex enough to have multiple meanings that make you stop and think. I love how intelligent his bars are yet he insists he isn’t as smart or complicated as people seem to think lol the dude is too humble about songs that can only be described as beautiful one of a kind works of art. Yes, yes, y'all, and you don't stop
And keep on, 'til the break of dawn
Slacker bound intimate tabloid headline with a pulse
Shimmy cross the centerfold, enter dead time engulfed
Divvy crumbs for the better souls, when seven deadly stains
Adhere hear the blame to crystal conscience
The result's a low life counting on one hand what he's accomplished
Okay, link me to activism chain, activate street sweep
Plug deteriorating Zen up in pen dragon
I hock spores coursed by the morbid spreading of mad men, alley gospel
Sinking your lincoln-log cabin and Charlie Chaplin waddle
I could, zig, zag, and zig 'em again
Before the badge gleam sparkled in my brick wall windows
Another thick installment of one night in Gotham
Without the wretched 'Houston we have a problem'
Attached to the festive batch of city goblins
Who split holiday freak on a box cut cinema high road bellow
Head gripped watch red bricks turn yellow
Sorta similar to most backbones at camp Icarus
Where all fiddler crabs congregate and get pampered for bickering
Life's not a bitch, life is a beautiful woman
You only call her a bitch 'cause she won't let you get that pussy
Maybe she didn't feel y'all shared any similar interests
Or maybe you're just an asshole who couldn't sweet talk the princess
Kiss the speaker wire, Peter Pacifism peggin' threshold
    Stomach full of halo kibbles
    Wingspan cast black upon vigils
Hear to duck hunt ticker tape vision and pick apart the pixels
I got a friend of polar nature and it's all peace
You and I seek similar stars but can't sit at the same feast
    Metal Captain
This cat is asking if I seen his little lost passions
Told him: "Yeah, but only when I peddled past him"
All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day
Put the pieces back together my way
All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day
Put the pieces back together my way
All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day
Put the pieces back together my way

    Night Light suckas..
Put one up shackle me, not clean logic procreation
I did invent the wheel, in a previous generation
While the triple sixers lassos keep angels roped in the basement
I locate my old halos and pass em out to the pavement
    y'all catch a 30-second flash frame
Dirty cooperative Neptune bloom head-trip split
Fantastic! Fathom the splicing of major league low lifes
With anti hero earthworm mentality (Godzilla!)
I paste my game to zero all completion
See a cretin's still a cretin even speakin' altered moniker
American nightmare lost in the monitor
I'll hold the door open so you can stagger through
Then ten berserk and bread cookies in after you
It's the gutter and I spell it with the 'G' I stole from "Get the fuck up"
Noise crutch stolen wretched refuse of my teaming dumb luck
Still I promise temperance storm breed still bleeding Amish
See the freaks sucked out the bottom dropped 3 bears and a baby in a cottage
    And I can't sleep now
    Yeah, the police'll laugh
You won't be laughing when your covered wagons crash
You won't be laughing when you're hosted by the ghost of Christmas past
You won't be laughing when your blow up doll's
got a headache and won't give up the ass
And I lay my kicks to rest when I'm impressed
So I staple-gun them to my feet
This origami dream is beautiful: pull the tail watch the wings flap
But you really can't do a thing with that
All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day
    Swallow up the pieces
    Spit 'em at your species
Reachin' the city of lost barnacles and leeches
Night-light got me when the daylight went to evening
    Night (Light) Day (Light) x8
I'm pretty sure I got a pulse.. plus
We Shimmy cross the centerfold, and our night light engulfed
Just let me keep the crumbs (Please)
    With seven deadly stains
To hear the plane to crystal conscious
The results a dead-beat trying to make a dollar off a bomb threat (OK)
Lift me to activism chain activate wild-style Pluto orbit
Set a course then push the button
I swallow spores born by the laws of a morbid glutton
I can spot a drunk battalion by the Charlie Chaplin waddle
Zig zag and zig 'em again before they can pull a badge out
    But I lash out
Another thick installment of one night in Gotham like
    "Houston we have a problem"
They're buffing the trains the same days the graffiti writers bomb 'em
Who split how many freaks on box cuts of a high road bellow?
Heads ripped! Watch red bricks turn yellow
I'll try to meet the wizard
But a tailgating tit-man holding an oil can
won't let a hermit crab break in his new shell-toes
Life's not a bitch, life is a beotch
who keeps the villagers circling the marketplace
    out searching for the G-spot
Maybe she didn't feel y'all shared any similar interests
Or maybe you're just an asshole; maybe I'm just an asshole
Kiss the speaker wire, seaming swashbuckler or pagan thresh hold
    Stomach full of diner food
Wings span cast black upon views
Here to help release the rabbit hounds or pick apart your mood
I got this friend of polar nature and it's all peace
When I seek similar stars but can't sit at the same feast
    Metal Captain!
This cat is asking if I've seen his bit of lost passion
I told him: "Yeah" I gave him one last look and smashed him
All I ever wanted was to pick apart the day
    Swallow up the pieces
    Spit 'em at your species
Reachin' the city of lost barnacles and leeches
Night-light got me when the daylight went to evening

Damn first time I've ever heard this. One of the greatest writers/MCs/producer in music. He can do so much of his own music. A true talent.

Could you imagine turning on the radio and hearing this? Sparks flames of anarchy and love in my imagination people helping each other , lovers embrace, a son looking to his father on a warm sunny day the twist of real in each the sweat and grunts of hard work the soldiers kicking your door in the screams of your loved ones spitting out your teeth the feeling of your knuckles cracking against thier face

This song is the meaning of Art, it can be interpreted in so many ways it’s crazy

    • @lonniesharpe9720
      @lonniesharpe9720 3 года назад

Its just random gibberish. Can we just be honest for one second?. If his lyrics weren't just gibberish then everyone would come to a consensus about what he meant.

    • @deviateedits

@@lonniesharpe9720 "gibberish" or not, its still better than all those rappers whose songs consist of nothing but bragging about their money, sex, fame etc. this is art, as it sets the basis for emotion but leaves it to the audience to decipher what exactly the emotions are. Would you not consider a famous painting such as "the garden of earthly delights" art? People have different opinions on its meaning, but its still recognised as art, because why wouldn't it be? An obscure meaning doesn't detract from the overall value of a piece or art.

    • @lonniesharpe9720

@@deviateedits When you look at the Garden of Earthly Delights you can see clear images. Aesop Rock's lyrics are the equivalent of a child who got a new set of felt tip pins and scribbled on the wall with them. His lyrics are not art. They are complete bullshit.

    • @deviateedits
      @deviateedits 3 года назад +6

@@lonniesharpe9720 I don't know about you but I see a fairly clear message in both these songs. "Daylight" is written from the perspective of an idealist who is coming to terms with the way the world works, how fucked up it really is, how he is powerless to change it, never decided that things should be that way, and how his idealism is essentially useless in his situation. "Nightlight" is told from the opposite perspective - someone who sees the world full of opportunities for self gain through exploitation and the expense of others. He is willing to contribute to the "fucked-up-ness" of the world in exchange for self benefit. He's aware that he's an asshole, but not ashamed of it, and utilises his selfish and nonchalant nature to make what he wants out of the world, at any cost. The two songs clash too well together, anyone can see the lyrics are deliberately written and not nonsense as you seem to believe.
I'm not gonna pretend that I understand it all 100%, because I definitely don't (I barely understand 75%) . Its just clear to me that its not simply 'gibberish' or 'random bullshit'. Thought and consideration went into the lyrics, and that alone is enough to prove that its not "complete bullshit" as you say.

    • @lonniesharpe9720
      @lonniesharpe9720 3 года назад

@@deviateedits Yeah, some of his songs do have a message behind them. I don't deny that. However, a large portion of his work makes no sense. My argument for it being gibberish is this. If it wasn't gibberish then people who interpret it would come to similar conclusions about what it means. The fact that nobody can come to any sort of agreement on what a large bulk of his lyrics mean shows that they are just random bullshit.
