I've been an Aesop Rock fan for 6 years now and listened to all his work. This is hands down his best work. I would go as far as this might be the best underground/hip-hop album I've heard. Great job guys.
@@MarshallWolfMiller I couldn't choose. Tobacco's beats are just so wild. Acid King is straight from another dimension both instrumentally and lyrically.
The bowling alley represents Hip Hop, and it closing represents Hollywood values ruining it. They spend the whole album doing a fundraiser concert, the same way they are building an underground Hip Hop movement, just to realize they raised just $211 and that it has been closed since 1995. Popular Hip Hop has been ruined since 1995. The $211 represents the small fan base they have. That seems far-fetched, but that's just my take.
It's just the fact it became mainstream because of the influx of money and people; like every damn great thing unchecked capitalism takes advantage of. I'd say the killings of Tupac and Biggie were far more costly, in terms of real cultural significance. P.S. I'm not anti-capitalism but I'm just acknowledging one of its faults.

@@cepukon I gotta say - the extra points farming doesn't make alotta sense to me. There's a time-bonus at the end of the level decreasing by 100 points every second. That means if you're not farming > 100 points/s, you're losing out on points. Counting over a 10 second period (-1000 from the bonus), I count him getting 700-800 points from jumping barrels, for a net gain of -200 points, and this doesn't count if you get bad RNG where DK just throws barrels straight to the bottom. So why does he do this at the end of every level? Am I missing something?

I'll give it a try, this albums got that street level, that hood level, that morning motivation level, that noon lunch break burn some herb level, that get me thru the motha fukn day level and the shit u wanna hear at the end of the day when u fukn level! Level I wanna b on n e how!
what about the "real music" level?
Personally responsible for bringing this to my local town whenever I drive around, in a town full of tek heads and Nikki Minaj fans
Reckless, stressed, & super weird with heavy heads as souveniers
This made my day. I woke up, made coffee and half asleep checked my subs to find this gem. Thanks Ian and Rob, bought the CD. Love y'all.
Ok been listening for two days now, love the new album. Know who I slept on? Rob Sonic. Dude's dope, and what Aes and him have done here is pure food for hip hop's soul. Have to mention Wiz is on point as well. Can I pre-order the album after this one now :)??
sup doom lol
Patricio87 Happy to be on the food chain at all.
wow, Viktor himself. what up wit a molemen reunion ?
DOOM is all caps! :(
Rob stepped up his game a lot.
The story had me on the edge of my seat the whole time and that final twist at the end really shook everything
I couldn't believe this showed up in my email this morning, but it is my birthday so I'm not questioning it. Thanks RSE/Aesop. I'm happy to pay for this on Bandcamp or Amazon.
Happy bday dude =D
Happy birthday dude! I saw this in my what to watch and was like "no way..rhymesayers never seizes to amaze me"!
Aes.... I've valued you as a person, an artist, since jacksonville FL after years of identifying with a prior reddit AMA. After askin' you in jacksonville to respect my time of day. You done folded your arms, small venus
I can't get enough of Picture Day. What a bassline.
Dollywood is high key one of the greatest things I've heard in a very long time.
Right? Love the funky time signature.
OHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH really good album.
I think Aes is even better with Rob. DOPE album! I'll have this on repeat all day.
They complement each other's styles so well. They're the perfect rap duo
Never realized how hard Donkey Kong was. This is impressive.
Especially the farming of extra points at the top of each level. I'd be hustling up that ladder asap
This album is an absolute classic. Unfortunately, it doesn't receive mainstream attention because of the different style, but Aes and Rob are some of the most skilled rhymers of all time.
I like every single track on this album.
I put headphones on to listen to this album. I was supposed to eat dinner an hour ago. FUCK this albums incredible.
This album owns so hard.
Here in 2020 and well this sounds like it dropped in 2020... ahead of its time!
I failed all basic training but I spent a couple groundhog days with a changeling...nice!
To me Aes always shines in a collab, you can appreciate his punchy style when you contrast him against someone syrupy like Rob or Homeboy Sand
fun fact: the amazing jonathan was a comedian. His act was he would do magic tricks like a normal magician that would go horribly wrong because he's the amazing jonathan
Dollywood:
[Verse 1: Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic]
Ollie on a dime, Dollywood elite
Posse in effect, poppy in his tea
Dotty I'm a rebel, cut away the pattern
Coffee on the dash, Muppets Take Manhattan
Circulate the pest, faded corpse paint
Old tanooki suit, Gang of Four tape
Gold Bazooka Tooth, eerie audio
Don't go in the light, here's Bobby, go
Platinum half a ton, milli magnum
Silly, rabid, dumb, trick the pinky ring
Campers, pack a gun, run you ragged from
Trouble as it comes, Mr. fifty winks
City bully brawl, if he could he'd call
Whitney's wooden hall home for holiday
Lizzy, thinning hair, is he sitting there
Dizzy pigeon stare, shit is commonplace
[Chorus: Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic]
Happy to be on the food chain at all
Happy to be on the food chain at all
Happy to be on the food chain at all
Happy to be on the food chain at all
[Verse 2: Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic]
Appetite of ten, hoodie on his mop
Racing RC Cars, rubicon across
Baby, party hard, copy, understood
(How are you today?) Jolly fucking good
Treading water in a dying industry
Covering his face, hiding in the wings
Born to hammer nails, bang a leader up
Die anonymous, face the Beelzebub
Razor on the edge, pray you stop instead
Save your honest men money's medicine
Let your flag fly, rep your half pride
Temper's bad, implied once he's jettisoned
Get him to the Greek, I bet he wouldn't eat
Heavy pudding cream sitting on a dock
Feather, hair and beard, whether they appeared
Never shed a tear, shit is none o'clock
[Chorus: Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic]
Happy to be on the food chain at all
Happy to be on the food chain at all
Happy to be on the food chain at all
Happy to be on the food chain at all
[Verse 3: Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic]
Circling a drain, eye a lion's share
Fighting evil art, lions, tigers, bears
Violent sea of sharks, baddies vaporize
Do not stare into the glassy manga eyes
Gangly overbite, city folk amok
Taketh no shits, giveth no fucks
Little green men, pull a killer card
Fire in the sky, vultures in the yard
Autodiner blitz, borders on the fritz
Mortars, comets, sticks, stone a minor threat
Pour the pot of piss, sorting on a whiff
War of opposite and open sinuses
Time release remain, I can see the rain
Why believe in vain, climb the Benny Hill
Live, at least today, spy the thief invade
Find the cheapest way to cry when Kenny's killed
[Chorus: Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic]
Happy to be on the food chain at all
Happy to be on the food chain at all
Happy to be on the food chain at all
Happy to be on the food chain at all
[Skit: Aesop Rock, Rob Sonic, All]
Save the alley, Save the alley

Fundraiser concert for the bowling alley over on Main
Tell your fiends
Yo listen its a fundraiser concert for the bowling alley over on Main
Yeah yeah yeah
It's a fundraiser concert
Fundraiser Concert!
They should be touring with Run the Jewels!! Honestly… what ever happened between Aes and El? This could've been one of the greatest underground hip-hop tours ever.
ShellacSoup ... Ideological differences. You can't tell from the difference in their styles since?
ShellacSoup I love RTJ but they're pointlessly negative and talk a lot of breeze whereas Aes is always building and doing something different, or weirder, or more personal... RTJ has stuck to that immature underdog fuck the world kind of style. Aes is growing up. They're selling schlock to kiddies...
Those two are worlds apart
Cx Mu Curious to this. Can you elaborate? :)
@@goat3779 Aes and El were previously signed to the same label "Definitive Jux", in "Daylight" Aes even shouts him out the song "Bracket Basher"
"And if I should die before I wake
Give my ASR to El and bury me with my mistakes
"
Also in "One of Four" the hidden track from the same album where he thanks the people who helped him overcome his mental breakdown at the time he cites El-P as one of those four people
"JAIME, I killed the robots and I'm sorry
Broke down in front of you, embarrassed
But you lent a heart and hand that only you could
You're one of my best friends and yes I'd take that bullet for you
That's my word, which is about all I have left"
After that rumor has it that after their close friend, Camu Tao died, Aesop got mad at El-P for attempting to profit off of Camu's death since El-P did use his death as a loose concept for his album, Cancer 4 Cure, no sauce tho.
!! All Hail, Hail Mary Mallon !! The combination of Aesop Rock & Rob Sonic is out of this Galaxy!!! .. this is incredible!! PLEASE DO MORE MUSIC TOGETHER!! Also please come to South Africa!!
This was a very prophetic album.
like half of this album came up on Aesop Rock pandora and I loved them so now I'm checking it out
I dont normally like rap but my late buddy fucking loved this album. It thumps.
Aes cannot disappoint. Rob is dope as well. This 2nd HMM album is awesome as you can put in a playlist with the first album and shuffle it all up, and it all goes together fine
happy to be on the food chain at all
picture day is bars, wish it was longer than a minute
who else thinks there should be a musical with this album as the soundtrack about saving a bowling ally
DO 'AT SHIT
This might be my fave hip hop album of all time, how do people sleep on it
Still
Dope
In 2017!!!!
Imagine if they did a song with RTJ
ezBio shit.. Still dope in 2027..
El-P left or dissolved Definitive Jux, his label that all his homies were signed to, and created RTJ with Killer Mike. So there's some beef between Aes and El-P.
Listen to Dorks with that thought in mind, and its the sickest diss track ever made 🤘
Still love em both 👊👈
trueeeee!!!!! Johnathan reminded me of the flow out of sight
Aesop and el p dont get along anymore. dont forget el p produced aes' first couple albums
@@dabbstermcdabberton2126 I think they might on better terms now (hopefully). A few weeks ago Aes name dropped El-P when asked about his fave rappers on Instagram
Dope ass album. Bumped this daily back in high school, cant believe its been so long. I remember when these two still teased HMM3
Nice surprise in my email this morning thanks ! About to send some smoke up while I listen to this gem.
Man, even though I picked this up on Bandcamp I appreciate the stream on here, helps to show it off to friends. This is one of my favorites, Aesop and Rob are awesome. Keep up the great work you two :)
I'm devastated about the bowling alley.
Rhymesayers Entertainment Just saw HMM with DJ Abilities in Birmingham: Ultra Dope.
I knew Aes and Rob would bring it, but DJ Abilities blew my mind. I wish I could have seen Eyedea and Abilities, but I was stoked for the Bestiary show to bring me as close as I'll ever get. Great Show, Give my props to Homeboy Sandman and DJ Sosa. That was my first time hearing their material, and they got the crowd going like no one else could have.
Krill is my SHIT...when that beat hits half way through that track..OMG.
I like how you can see him barely moving around in the reflection of the screen
bro youre a legend 4 years later and I've just noticed this hahaha
Following him from the Anticon days, I really love reading the comments about people just discovering Aes...but you'll never find all the releases.
