If you have the chance to listen the recent "Wembley or Bust" it's actually better than the studio albums - the execution is astonishing. With the benefit of technology that wasn't available 45 years ago - they do the whole thing live - it's absolutely stunning". With a band / orchestra of that size I guess it had to be a venue as big as Wembley to make it worthwhile. And it's definitely worthwhile.

Back when this song came out, I was at my uncle’s house and my cousin was playing this song on a reel to reel tape. Some time after that, I had a chance to choose a tape to get from the Columbia House Record and Tape Club. I thought of this song, but thought it was “Turn to Stop”. I looked through the catalog for albums available in reel format, and came across this album with “Turn to Stone” on it. I took a chance that it was the correct album, and it was. And what a great album it was.
The intro to this song and the first verse really have a strong emotional effect on me. I was in my early teens when it was released. Such a great time to be alive.
I grew up listening to ELO's Time album. Every song fades to the next. It's a story album. It's not a popular album but it's definitely my favorite. My dad has it on record, 8 track. I had it on cassette and CD and now mp3. My brother has it too. It's a family affair. You make me so happy listening to you reacting to them. So cool man!

I never realized until seeing them live how much "Orchestra" was in the Electric Light Orchestra. Many songs use three violins, two violas, a grand piano, as well as several guitars, drums, keyboards, and other typical rock band instruments. Amazing musicians.

Jeff Lynn explained in an interview the name ELO came from "light orchestra" which back in the day in England meant a very small minimal orchestra. He wanted that sound along with electric instruments, so "Electric LIght Orchestra". His music has held up extremely well over the years. Thanks for featuring it on your channel
I used to hear ELO playing on the radio in the '70s as I was commuting back and forth from work and hadn't paid much attention to them. I rediscovered them on RUclips last year and fell in love with them. Jeff Lynne wrote and sang all the songs. I like the live album from Wembly and hadn't heard this version of Turn to Stone before. "Jungle" off the same album is an unappreciated masterpiece. "Shine a Little Love" is probably my all time fave ELO. Lots of other good songs; fantastic production.
I discovered ELO when I was in the 6th grade in 1976. I had this hot youth minister who was in to them. I bought every album out so I could talk with her about music. Love ELO

"Jungle" off the same album is an unappreciated masterpiece. "Shine a Little Love" is probably my all time fave ELO. Lots of other good songs; fantastic production.

I discovered ELO when I was in the 6th grade in 1976. I had this hot youth minister who was in to them. I bought every album out so I could talk with her about music. Love ELO
