It's amazing how easily one's cell phone hangs them in a criminal case. Murdaugh was a prosecutor, you'd think he would have had a wee bit more forethought. But then again he had been skating along with impunity for so long, that he didn't bother tying every loose end. His sheer arrogance is staggering.

I think Alex grabbed Paul's phone immediately after killing them so that he could delete the tree sapling video because that caused a problem with his missing (blood splattered) clothes and shoes. He probably tried typing in Paul's birth date but Paul was more careful than that. He probably tried using Paul's dead fingertips to open the phone. But he couldn't get the angle right and was starting to panic as he had such a tight timeline to achieve an alibi and get rid of the clothes and gun. So immediately in the cop car after the shooting he's babbling away about trying to do stuff on Paul's phone (explain why there was blood on it when it was in Paul's pocket at the time of shooting). That was a massive red flag. Who starts touching their son's phone when their son's brains have been blown out? Then there was the call to the police where he didn't realise it was being recorded as it was ringing and he was silent and calm and then switched on the fake hysteria the minute the police answered the phone. There were the self admissions 'i did him so bad' telling the police me made a mess of shooting his son. And on the stand he said that while down at the kennels he was 'getting ready to do what I really didn't want to do'. There was other stuff but that's just for starters.

A boyfriend of mine was stabbed repeatedly. That was 35 yrs ago. I can remember where I was sitting, give a pretty good time frame, where he was standing, the exact words the girl said to him, the exact words and movements of myself. I can remember after running to get help grabbing the bloody knife from her hand. I remember the feel of his blood as I helped him to the medical centre next to the night club we both worked out. I remember what I told the Dr what the Dr said to me. I can even tell you the joke I made when he asked me in the back of the ambulance if his dace was still pretty. I remember every thing. How does he not remember what his and Maggie's last words were. How long he slept for, what they talked about during dinner, what happened to his shoes & shirt he was wearing before he went to hos mothers. He forgot to many important details. Before this closing, I was really afraid that it would be hung jury, but after hearing this I was sure it's gonna be guilty. Waters really nailed it. He explained everything from start to finish in a logical and clear way, plugging all the gaps that the defense had tried to create to create uncertainty. Waters was credible and he also proved what he said. Absolutely great work! Yes, and the keywords human nature, common sense, etc. were really, really important. It was important to emphasize to people that they should think. Think about what you know about humanity and life, what makes sense and what doesn't. It was also important that they used the term family annihilator for Alex a little earlier. That's exactly what he is and people understand and believe this case better when the prosecutor referred to that. Many have wondered about the motive etc. and hesitated because of that, but when the prosecutor used this term, the matter became clear, because this is exactly how family annihilators i.e. family murderers work.

Then Alex realized it wasn't a fatal enough shot and shot him again, to make sure finished what he intended in the first place.
