The fact that he did get the Navidson hallway is nothing short of amazing. It's the only "genuine first playthrough" I've seen of someone that got it.
There was another guy who got it but just went straight in thinking it was progress lol
"Shrek is missing" is a sentence that this map somehow makes horrifying
The way the game goes from, "Oh a charming gamer's house made in Doom" to "What kind of shadow realm mindscrew have I walked into" is so well done. 🤣
And yet it still didn’t scare Jared. Nerves of steel on this one
@@pharmcat8484 I mean it's trippy for sure, but it's not really scary. You're still Doomguy.
@@renatocorvaro6924Especially not at the gray house with the dogs. Mostly unkillable orthrus aside, that place was going for pure mindf$&@ over scares, at least in my opinion.
@isenokami7810 wrong its a cerbreus from Blood
Sailor scout may is pretty
41:17 Yeah you laugh when the doggy appears unless you are twitchy like me and blast it in less than half a second... Even in a world where you expect everyone to be out to get you, always confirm your target.
But he ended up killing it anyway. =(
I don't know how, but this is the perfect game for Jared. You would think he would be blind and miss 80% of everything, but somehow he sees right through the design of this game.
Jared seems pretty sharp with games most of the time. From what he and other let’s players/streamers say, it’s the performance aspect and oncoming criticism that make you lose track of information.
@@jeremiah1293 I'm more surprised that he immediately worked out that you need to collect all the items in both the mirror world and the regular world. But maybe chat told him some things...
Wouldn’t be the first time! He forsaw the dangers of the hand thing in Until Dawn as well.
@@DarkDraiHe had chat turned off
@@Xeno_Solarus Yes. However, there were points when he talked to chat.
For the record, this was some of your most entertaining content in recent years, imo. This WAD is great, but I hadn't felt like tackling it myself, so when I saw your upload I immediately watched it. Took a few sittings, but it was worth it.
What a lot of people don't catch is that you are still in the house when you go to different areas. The airport is still the house with the two bathrooms where the bathroom and bedroom is in the original house, the main gate being the living room, restaurant is the kitchen... It's all various mutations of the house's layout.
I think Jared had pretty much the best possible experience with this mod besides playing at the time it was releasing
Turning chat off was the right idea, even if it led to some frustrating fumbling, but that fumbling is kinda the point
I do think he messed up a little, since you’re not supposed to be able to see the map and it sort of ruins some of the whole “Bit” the map was going for, but otherwise I know I’ve seen far worse play throughs, especially where chat interference is concerned
For a guy looking out for secrets, he sure did walk past and miss a metric ton of secrets.
That's our Jared.
57:15 They got me with the Navidson reality...shout out to all my House of Leaves fans...
This is not for you...
I just started reading recently due to this mod haha
watching Jared opening doors over and over again, while I'm having shiny Pokémon PTSD type memories, and both of us freaking out when that 1 special time escapes us... thinking: where did it go?
Non-Euclidian maps are so fun in games haha. Really glad Jared played this. Didn't expect it. But was really fun to watch. And I'm honestly surprised, in a good way, about how long he took to get the best ending. Would have taken me waaaay longer.
It's such a cool touch that all the music and diagetic sound in the mirror world is played backward.
I was impatient and watched the stream VOD of this instead of waiting for this but its a great playthrough! Jared does super well figuring out like 95% of it with no help at all
That's jared for ya, he is really good at figuring out the most cryptic stuff but stumbles at the really obvious things. He just likes to overthink i guess.
My man came in expecting a nice mod, thought he was gonna get jumpscared when the music started it's memery and did not know this turns into a full blown Homage to House of Leaves mixed with ARG without turning into one.
I love that he's actually called "Good Boy" in the code
Oh man, this is going to be a treat :D Seeing someone who hasn't been up to date with all the funky stuff Doom mappers can do nowadays in a creepypasta mod...
Jerd, I hope you and Vlad and your loved ones are doing well! Stay hydrated!
Less than 30 minutes into the video, and I love how observant you are and how you point out stuff that specifically seems off to you in the moment.
I loved seeing the unsettling "real" doors in Doom and "Running from Evil" being just off, but many playthroughs I've seen oddly don't even notice that.
The Pepsi was maddening. Fun play through though, this mod might be contender for my goty
I wasn't expecting an entire movie, not to mention an extended edition, but it's more than welcome!
Vlad cut about 2 hours of wandering. It was a long stream.
I did not realize how long this was. Around the 30 minute mark when he couldn't find the way out of the house after getting the blue skull I was like, "Oh must be the end." Then realized I had another 3.5 hours to go
Am I really going to sit and watch/listen to nearly 4 hours of Jared experiencing a psychological horror custom map for a early 90s FPS game?
Of course I am!
Is it weird that I found the Shrek in this actually kinda scary? For one, he started with a really nasty bootleg face on the daycare wall: something like that would probably cause lasting nightmares for any poor kid who grew up in that place. Then when he actually starts chasing you, he’s covered in shadow; drowns out the dumb meme aspect and leaves you with “this imposing unkillable monster is coming to murder me.”
I cannot thank Vlad enough for putting all this together, and Well done Jared on playing this whole thing! I'd heard stuff but it's neat to see, but I'm not a creepy gamer so I'm glad you did it.
Jared you get props for seeing this one through. It was awesome to see you do it, and vlad only minimally messed up the edits, but you can tell it was where he was getting tired.
RUclips loves to autoplay this when I'm sleeping and has led to some interesting dreams.
Jesus, this was worth it. Thank you for doing this playthrough Jerd, watched the whole thing and enjoyed every single bit of it. You even managed to find the Navidson Hallway really early!! Almost no other blind playthrough I've seen did that!! It's so good to have Vlad and you back, much love to you guys, keep it up, I'll keep watching.
You know, one of the nice things about this channel is that I can experience entire genres that I wouldn't think of trying for myself. I've never been into FPS games, but this was a treat.
You gotta remember that Doom isn't actually generating 3d environments. Impossible geometry is not only possible, but easy in Doom.
It is actually generating 3D environments from 2D blueprints. Most of the tricks used to create impossible geometry is invisible teleports, while some of the more funky cases (like the hallway that leads into where a room should be) are done by using UDMF's portal line action, which sort of works like how Portals work in Portal. It's not that it's "not a real 3D environment", it's just a 3D environment being cleverly warped with portals and teleports.
@@charbomber110 Doom used binary space partitions which are used by most games still. Doom also had a (barely functional) z axis. The z axis did work, it would just heavily limited due to the low cpu power at the time, Doom is actually 3d, it's just scaled down to neaqrly as basic as possible for 386s and 486s
@@Zellio2011doom doesn’t actually have a third dimension at all, it fakes it. It projects a 2d playspace onto a bsp view area. Most source ports change that, turning it into a proper 3d engine, but the doom map format still doesn’t allow true 3d with floors-over-floors, and that has to be done with trickery. Any time you’re able to walk over an area you’re able to walk under, you’re being lied to, one way or another
@@Arkouchie This MF doesn't know about how projectiles work! Laugh at this user!
@@Zellio2011 I'm not sure how this adds to or takes away from my other comment, unless it's for further explaining how DooM's mapping works.
I watched a bunch of randos play this game and not a single one was as thorough or entertaining as you. Thank you, Jared!!! You really brought out the utmost enjoyment for me of this mod with your reactions, your exploration, etc
When Jared killed the bad dog he was so emotional and indecisive. Shows good heart.
Props to Jared for being a little bit more keen to the map than the typical streamer on his first run through.
Most streamers run through it like they havent played a doom map before.
Out of everyone I watched playing this, Jared's the only one that stopped and let the music get real weird during the starting areas.
Good stuff~
I hope Jared does some more looking into this. The story is actually really well done and seeing him dismiss it as "a bunch of theory videos making this way more than it actually is" was kinda sad. Theres a good tragic love story to be found in the supplemental materials.
I think the part I like about this is unlike other horror projects that rely so heavily on the lore to be enjoyed, this project is already enjoyable to anyone who hasn't even read any of the supplemental material. So people can take it as far or as little as they want and can still get equal but different levels of enjoyment. I'd rather take that than some games I've seen where you have to know the lore in order to even begin to enjoy the game lol.
That stairwell with the exit signs is the Doom equivalent of "I'm back in the fucking building AGAIN? OH MY GODDDD".
What an interesting way to tell a story through the framework of a well known game. I like how, despite this having Creepypasta vibes, it wasn't really scary because, as Jared kept saying, you're still Doomguy. And the work that must've gone into making this thing work as smoothly as it did with all the strange twists and turns of the level geometry! Very impressive. Thanks for playing through it, Jared!
Classic Doom/Doom 2 is my all time favorite game. It's always awesome to see a new Wad blow up like this and bring attention to such a legendary game! Whether it brings back people who just haven't played old school Doom in forever, or it brings in a younger generation who never got to experience these classics.
Also Power Pak's video of My House is so well done, highly recommend watching it.
Happiness has to be fought for.
I find it interesting that he didn't notice the first thing wrong: Doom, typically, can't have multiple, overlapping floors, because of how the map engine was designed.
Great! Just finished watching an older playthrough so this came just at the right time! Thanks for years of entertainment Jared (and editor!)
I fell asleep while watching this and had this freaky music playing in my head the entire next day, it kept changing and I didn't know if my recollection was just screwy or what until I came back and watched this again, really tripped me out and this music will haunt my nightmares forever now.
1:51:17
You're seeing a line that causes a visual effect when you walk on it. It's intentional, though I couldn't tell you exactly what its purpose is. That David Does Doom series breaks down ALL of the crazy technical aspects of the map.
The failure to pick up the Pepsi was beyond infuriating.
Indeed it was.
Okay, so the house is noneuclidian. Okay. This is going to be wild.
It was kind of sad seeing Jarod check the map I think. I dunno what settings Jarod has on to see the map but the mod is supposed to disable it entirely and it kinda ruined some fun parts of the geometry.
I believe he has map textures toggled on. I had the same experience since I accidentally left it that way from prior non-myhouse.wad games.
Honestly I thought the same way until I saw that House of Leaves-esque dark labyrinth and realized that _maybe_ it's best to leave it on for that segment... Jared would've been there for longer than he is, I'd wager.
@@nellancasterAgreed, I don’t think there’s a good excuse for not letting you use a map in the labyrinths. Though, whenever a game throws me into a maze like that, I tend to check the map every three seconds.
To be fair, that area doesn’t lead anywhere at all, it’s purely a red herring. So having the map confirm it kind of ruins the element of fear of not knowing where you are and where you’re supposed to go.. or even if you’re ever going to get out.
@@NeatChill When you put it that way, I suppose that is good enough of a reason to have the map turned off.
I still stand by my own opinion (which in itself is based on my personal disdain for running through mazes without a map), but that is a perfectly valid counterargument.
@@nellancaster yeah man we’re all different. I totally check the map every 2 seconds in doom anyway because my sense of direction is awful xD so I get it
This is a genuine work of art on all levels. Story, technical, set up, everything.
Something neat I've gathered from other videos: the house is shaped like the doom keycard graphic and every single area is shaped like the house.
This mod is such a mindtrip and seeing you play it was an absolute treat. I know nothing about the Doom modding community, so this was very interesting to see and to watch.
You're only the second streamer I've seen who's stopped to listen to the music! I *love* that remix on this mod and I'm happy to see someone else recognising it's effect too :)
Just starting the video but wanted to say I've been looking forward to this ever since I caught mid-stream. I am ready for this roller coaster.
That felt like forever to watch, can't imagine how long it took to play and edit into this video. Amazing work. I would never have been able to finish this.
I'm pretty excited to see you go through this dude, hope you had fun :)
Whew that was super awesome to watch. I really enjoyed it. Thank you so much Vlad for powering through the raw footage. This was really great.
You have no idea how glad I am that you played this. I watched this split into 3 days, it was beautiful
i watched a video on this before.. amazing you're actually getting to this before Derek Alexandar (biggest DOOM fan I know)
also, really impressive you managed to finish it! o_O even John Romero didn't see all that you did
Thank you Jared for a VERY enjoyable experience. I don't mind longer videos like this. It's just the chance to really immerse myself in another world for awhile. Also thank you Vlad for editing footage that must have been HELL to do. Take a breather now my guy.
So glad I caught this live. I was the one who had played MtG at my LGS all day and stopped playing to watch this. Was sat in my LGS, organising cards and listening to Jared flail through my earphones. I love this mod and I love this playthrough.
His shandalar series (vanilla and modded) would be great background for a lgs!
Randomised Shandalar is my go-to background noise.
Oh man, found the gas station without seeing the hint. You lucky bastard.
I've watched a dozen streamers run this to full completion and never seen the shadow labyrinth!
It's not a necessary part of the game and it's actually a reference to House of Leaves.
2:13:50 those are fucking langoliers
Well, there are life saving lessons to be learned here. The sludgie machine taught us to not waste valuable resources that our life could depend on later. And the gas station taught us to never let ourselves get surrounded. Waiting inside is bad juju.
the amount of times he comes close to discovering something or picking something up and doesnt is infuriating.
Because I saw Mutahar's video on this a month or so ago, it makes me even more excited for this playthrough
The last two years I've had friends die on August 4th. Which is also my birthday. That Google doc was...weird
Great edit Vlad! This was fantastic watching live.
Looking really healthy man, im glad you are doing well these days, having fun and looking like your really enjoying making content.
Hope you continue to be on the rise.
I've watched so many videos about this thing and find it absolutely fascinating. The creator did SERIOUS behind the scenes work to make the unfiction scan. If anyone has questions (Which is inevitable with this thing) I'd be happy to answer.
What are all the flags that lead to the different endings?
My main question is what IS the story behind the map? And the comment before mine mentioned other endings, was the dog section during the first hour (as of me replying I only watched up to 1:06:48 ) one such ending???
Why is Shrek
@@aarondevack1912That's the "Sale" ending, yeah. So far as the story behind it, well, it really is meant to be interpreted by the individual. I haven't finished watching the video yet but I'll assume Jerd got back to the google doc at some point. That basically puts this down as a "ben drowned" style haunted game/game file. Issue with that is the semi ending that reveals the Creator's obituary page. That throws all kinds of questions into the mix that are never answered which means it's really down to you. I'll give you my story for the game. Thomas and the creator (his name is blanking ATM) are childhood friends. They reunited after college and became lovers, eventually marrying. Tragically, both of them pass away in a house fire. Steven (I think) and Thomas both become ghosts. Thomas is willing to move on to the next life but Steven is not, so much so that he as a ghost doesn't even realize he's dead. He does, however, believe Thomas is dead. The events of the diary go on except with the caveat of Steven being dead. A more living ghost that can appear to living people, thus getting the disk from Thomas' parents. Thomas, in an attempt to get through to Steven, begins to screw with the map. Perhaps he succeeds, perhaps not, but I choose to believe that Steven post-upload finds the secret ending that reveals his own obituary, and finally accepts he is dead and moves on to the next life with his only light in his dark world.
Oh my god! Bahahaha the panic trying to find the shrek door after he picked up the berserk powerup made me belly laugh.
Wow I don’t know what I was expecting but it wasn’t this. Clicked play then saw the runtime and moved to the couch. Very fascinating mod.
finally. best wad and creepiest ever made. a true masterpiece. for real.
Missing all the little things in MyHouse I can understand, but going to the Underhalls and *not* grabbing the SSG? You gotta be kidding me.
1:41:11 Haha, that's bonkers!
3:38:25 Your reaction to the hell you unleashed when you stepped outside was priceless!
This might be my fave Projared video ever
Ho. Lee. Shit. It took me some time to get through, but I'm glad I was here for it! Good job, it was fun to watch.
This was awesome, love the long play videos.
Love your water sound effect which reminded me of a murlock from Warcraft 3
Lol that realty sign. Good stuff. If people like this you should read House of Leaves
Thanks for playing this, it would vanish in my "Not today, later..."-list otherwise.
"I'm sorry Vlad, I'm so, SO sorry!"
"..."
Watching this is just crazy. It nails the horror transitions in ways I never saw DOOM was being capable of. Whoever put that together did a great job there.
This soundtrack is to die for.
Early on, I thought haha a house with bullshit physics. What a fun idea. Kinda reminds me of House of leaves. But they wouldn't because I feel it is not very well known and....I see blue text on the word house... Now wait a single god damn minute. No fucking way. A DARKHALLWAYOMFG. JARED DO NOT. FUCK THIS. Later on. Navidson realty. You mother fucker. I see what you did. But ya know what. Bravo. GG game creator GG.
EDIT: Happy to see other comments saw it. I'm so happy to see that book get a name for itself.
"Our house in the middle of the street."
The Dog! We'll remember you
The frustration of yelling at my screen that you NEED the air from the first vent, knowing you cannot hear me
Wow this was one of the most exciting games I've ever seen someone play. I had no clue what was happening or why, but i couldn't stop watching!!!!!! Whoever made this game is incredible and I can't wait to see more!!!!
For the record Jared, I loved this. Please do mess about more with things like this in the future. I loved your Zelda Doom as well.
Anyone who hasn't played this mod. Play this mod BEFORE you watch anything about it. Or play along, like play, watch Jared get to where your at, play more, repeat. Its so much better to experience on your own, then come back and watch his reactions.
Sorry Jared, I got ya paused and i'm now noticing the length to this one. I'm gonna need some popcorn.
I used to think my school had an interesting layout and wanted to build it as a Quake map just for fun. I never did create the map but I've built it in my head. Sometimes I'll even walk through it in my head. Why? I don't know. I'm bored.
That was fun to watch!!
I love watching Jared so much!
I have been waiting for this to finally release.
Navidson Reality as a nod to House of Leaves was really great.
Jared missed the fake Discord message sound that played 10 minutes after he started the map probably because it got drown out by the combat.
I heard that and had to rewind it to make sure it came from the video and I didn’t miss a message. I didn’t realize it was from the game though. Thought it was more of like an editing/live oopsie
A second discord message fadeout happens at an hour and seven minutes in and he DOES catch it and it freaks him the fuck out, lol
Jared reaction is making me laugh. he like wtf is going on 😆 I'm in doom 2 map 2 Underhalls then back to the house after reaching the exit 😂
1:51:00 I assume that when he moves too high vertically, it's unloading or hiding the room on the other side of the mirror.
I remember playing with a map editor for Rise of the Triad, and I made this dumb level where a lava column pushed me through a hall of lava walls, and I kept dying during testing, so I just put food on the ground, then I pretty much just got bored and never did it again. This mod is the opposite of that.
25 minutes in and already excellent playthrough, and faces!
Thank you Vlad and Jared! I would NEVER have experienced this without you guys.
I was there for most of this stream and saw others play it, it was something alright.
Haunted Houses are pretty rad. :D
