I know it's just an ad for McDonald's but the fact that they just dumped the rom while the other actual game titans are trying to destroy game preservation is baffling
Of course they would dump the rom, would you you spread the game for free aadvertise other way? Its not like they make GB cartridges or game boys anymore...
This game is goofy af. But you know what's not? Ten years with Jared. Glad to be able to hang with you, man. Looking forward to as many years as content creating makes you happy for.
Hey Jared! You said, "when's the last time they busted out Mayor McCheese?" Mildly interesting: McDonald's doesn't bust out Mayor McCheese because they're legally banned from using him. In 1977 McDonald's was sued over Mayor McCheese looking too much like the costume TV character H.R. Pufnstuf. McDonald's lost.
It's always WHO is Grimace (a dork), or WHAT is Grimace (the avatar of an ice cream/slushy brain freeze), but never HOW is grimace? No I'm not asking how he feels, I'm asking what dark rituals they did to summon him.
Why would they do this? Because its freaking awesome to do so. Even if the game sucks the fact that you can do stuff like this is great and gives new life to retired old systems.
I just got McDonald's, opened up the bag to see "Grimace's Birthday" on my nugget box, clicked on RUclips, and saw Grimace's Birthday on a ProJared video. And somehow the next 22 minutes were even weirder.
We live in the era of GB Studio too, where just about anyone could whip together a Game Boy game. Why Mickey D's decided to get someone to make them a GB game, let alone have the stones to post its ROM online to use on "totally legit" Game Boy, is beyond me. But seems like Arby's has to pony up on its pop culture act. :p ...also, Grimace on a skateboard in a video game vaguely reminds me of Sunday Funday.
This would have 100% been a happy meal toy or some special sale back in the day, and it would have sold well and become a collector's item CIB. ESPECIALLY since there's apparently 2 revisions, the second cleaning up the glitches at the ending.
Jared's Grimace impression is a lot better than I was expecting. EDIT: Grimace is not a tastebud. Filming in McDonaldland is a social media account run by a former production guy and he debunked this rumor.
@@KaedeLanyo no that's... that's actually the most cogent thing ever said on the subject of the grimace. look, I can't throw stones, I once had a naked lady burst out of a cake and then declare she's actually a cake nymph, who needs to find a new cake to live in. i drew her hair to look like frosting! then she found like, a cupcake, and that was somehow good enough. I actually wanted to try the Grimace Shake, but none of the places I normally shop at in-person have a McDonald's nearby. I tried to order delivery, but you could only get the shake in a meal, and all of the meals were goddamn $22. Fuck that.
I fail to understand the point of a game having any McDonald's characters if it doesn't include Ronald. But I do say even that makes more sense than being perplexed by using arrows for movement, seeing as they're literally directional keys.

I like to think being given the task of animating Grimace hitting a wastebin and absolutely slamming face onto concrete was a once in a lifetime experience that someone was genuinely delighted to receive.
