Glorfindel is an elf in Lord of the Rings. He saved Frodo from the ringwraiths the book, but was cut from the movie so Arwen could get some more screen time.
So disappointed in Jared. A true nerd should know this.
Put some respect on an Elf Lord's name, JERD.
The many dwarves all called Thief is probably a Hobbit reference, I'd wager.
I mean the game spelled it Glorfindle.
This^^
Also did not know this existed lol, won the board game as a teenager from cereal giveaway and actually found a nearly full set, box, rules and all at a flea market last year, never gets old. I don't do a ton of comments cause I'm weird and akward, but been fan since the epic top 10 bee videos and have actually discovered a fair few new games over the years thanks again
Thank you!
To this day, I:m trying to talk my friend out of his board game version which he never took the time to learn the rules of as a kid
the best thing about HeroQuest is MORE HEROQUEST
Actually, the best thing about HEROQUEST is EVEN MORE HEROQUEST!
The best thing about HeroQuest is the Browd Soahd!
@@furrymessiah And then I drew Heroic Brew and took home ALL the winnings!
@@otakon17 After all, whose gonna argue?
"The best thing about Hero Quest on dos, is the music. With all the bits and pops. The perfect soundtrack for a heroic hero on thier adventure."
Man, i loved this board game. Had no idea there was a DOS version
I released on a lot of old PC's and also there was supposed to ne NES version of the game.
@@justavivi3386When you "old" do you mean "IBM PC Required" old?
@@Spootington no. Computers like Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, etc.
@@justavivi3386 I had (and still have) an Atari 800XL.
Same. It was probably the coolest board game I got when I was a kid. A shame I used the pieces like toys.
The best thing about HeroQuest is the GARGOYLE!
i myself have started replacing my furniture with heroquest furniture, even my doors!
oh no! mormons
Near the start, where you mentioned the tunes having a beat… that was Golden Brown, by the Stranglers.
I thought the same thing lol
I have this as a boardgame and one add-on. It's from the original release and we still play it with my friends from time to time 😊
Nice, but you should have discarded the expansion, because the only thing that can properly expand HeroQuest is more HeroQuest. (Joke)
Had the board game as a kid! Never played it cause I had no friends, but I LOVED just looking at it. Really cool that there's a DOS game lol
Same here :D
No time like the present! I sure you've made a couple of mates by now!
I used to play with the figurines and create stories.
BRB, gotta pause this and rewatch "Why HeroQuest is so Great" by Bardic Broadcasts again really quick... Need to get my "brode swode" fix..
Don't forget to cast "Fires of Roff", as well. :D
Loved old DoS games, my dad had so many when I was growing up, would always watch him when I got home from school
Hero Quest, what a blast from the past. Even when I didn't know the rules, just paying with the miniatures and board pieces with friends was fun. I still have the boardgame.
They recently reprinted Hero Quest, btw. I just saw a copy when I was in Gamestop the other day.
Also HeroQuest is in the old Warhammer world which why it mentions Chaos and such.
Glad to have to back Vlad hope you enjoyed your time off hands down one of the best editors on youtube
*pushes up glasses* Um, actually, it's babbys first Warhammer Fantasy. :D That's why in the rerelease through Kickstarter, some of the monsters are different. Specifically, there are no Fimir anymore, and the Chaos Warriors and Chaos Warlock are renamed. I don't recall the new names, but I know those three monsters got changed.
It also has a sister game that is babby's first Warhammer 40K: Space Crusade. And there's a computer game version of that too.
What would that have to do with changing monster names? Especially names generic as slapping the word chaos before a job class.
@@gurvmlk Because they have trademarks on the names, presumably. It's also possible that the team in charge of the republishing just didn't want to risk legal action, and changed it as a precaution.
@@y2a1979 Some of those seem to me like very weird names to have copyrighted. But maybe that's also because one of my favorite video games of all time, which has absolutely nothing to do with Warhammer, also has monsters called chaos warriors.
I like this idea, Jerd. Can’t wait to see more. Welcome back, Vlad.
None on my local game stores carry this game for some reason.I want to buy it but not from amazon
Think Glorfindel is the name of an elf in lord of the rings, so just switch 2 letters and is totally diferent.
Welcome back Vlad. WE LOVE YOU
I loved this board game!! Played it all the time as a kid! Later in life we added a bunch of parts from Clue and Legos and garage sales and played it like DnD. I made soooo many new maps and scenarios. Thanks for the memories Jerd!! Great content.
Glad to see this channel active again. It's part of my daily ritual
HEROQUEST IS THE BEST GAME EVER MADE, AND ANYONE WHO SAYS OTHERWISE IS WRONG.
THE BEST THING ABOUT HEROQUEST IS THE MINIATURES, MADE IN THE GLORY DAYS BEFORE GAMES WORKSHOP HAD BEEN DESTROYED FROM WITHIN.
THERE IS NOT AN INCH OF PRETENTIOUS OVERCOMPLEXITY ABOUT THEM. ANY MAN CAN TELL WHAT THEY ARE FROM OVER 500 YARDS AWAY, AND I KNOW THIS BECAUSE I'VE TESTED IT WITH A TEAM OF RUSSIAN, EX-SOVIET SCIENTISTS.
BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T DESTROYED BY IDIOTIC OVERSCULPTING, MANY A YOUNG LAD GOT THEIR START IN MINIATURE PAINTING, MAKING THEIR FIRST DELICATE STEPS WITH THESE FINE FIGURES.
O-oh, nevermind that one; I ruined that one...
BRODE SWODE!
@@SideBurn12 Fire of Roth!
Otherwise
@@darnit16 WRONG!
My brother had this when we were younger and took it with him when he moved out. I was so stoked to find out they rereleased it, and have gotten it and all the expansions since then.
The best thing about Hero Quest is it the ProJared Plays video!
OMG you played the DnD Megadrive game of my childhood (Warriors of the Eternal Sun) and now this! 😂💓💓💓
I remember playing an Amstrad version of this boardgame. Lol
I just picked up a DOS game I used to love as a kid, from a GOG givaway on their main page, that is still running at time of writing for another 20ish hours maybe? Fiendish Freddy's Big Top o' Fun. Thought it worth a mention.
Now back to some ProJared goodness, I missed this on the daily. Stream Vods are fine and all but my afternoon/evening lunch with Jared and Vlad? Can't be beat.
Vlad definitely needed a sling to conquer his foes with mighty rocks!
Glad to have both of you back. Looking forward to more abandonware hijinks!
I used to have the board game back in 1993!! Loved it! I think what they charge for it now is just ridiculous....
Oh hell yeah! I own 3 copies of the original Hero Quest and i got the new Kinkstarter remake to, getting all expansions for it to!
So you've played in Gravity Land, then? :D
@@y2a1979 Its the swedish versions which only got 2 expansions sadly, so nothing super special, still fun to own the old originals ^^
@@y2a1979 Even though Nimzana didn't get the joke, I got you; Nay, I ventured the Fortress o' Peril!
I would actually really like to watch more episodes of this, even if there's no major end-goal, seems like fun and great background noise
I love how they decided that Golden Brown by the Stranglers would be a good fit for HeroQuest
Is that an 8-bit Golden Brown by the Stranglers playing at 13:20?
I remember playing the HeroQuest board game with my cousin and little brother as a kid. This game is awesome.
When I saw the thumbnail, I briefly thought this was the _Dragonstrike_ board game with VHS tape. _Then_ I though this was _Heroscape,_ another board game that's like a simpler variation on D&D.
I love old school games, and ever since the AD&D games and those other d&d games, I've been interested to see more of them
All hail Vlad the Wizard
Hero Quest was my introduction to tabletop RPGs
I wanna see all of HeroQuest, every dungeon fully explored.
If you mean the DOS version, you might.
But I you mean the board game version, it's highly unlikely you'll see everything
>The Dwarf's name is Furcht
This is gonna be another "Subscribe is the Hero of the Party" situation, isn't it?
Your mind has dual purpose, in the base game it's more used for saving throws but in expansions there are spells that will affect it and if it goes down to zero you're effectively incapacitated like with HP.
Man, I don't think you could keep searching for treasure like this. I remember couldn't search in hallways and only one search per room. This is insane, searching every turn. This would have made the game go really slow IRL, not just drawing but recording and seeing as this is played by pre-teens this game wouldn't go very far.
Correct me if I'm wrong, it's been 20 years but in the board game, when someone searches you put a piece down that represents what they found. They should have put that in the game, it would have made it a lot more interesting to play. There was a lot of decorative items to put in the rooms too
THE RETURN OF VLAD WIZARD LET'S GOOOOOOOOOO!
I just rewatched the Warriors of the Eternal Sun playthrough so this is perfect timing for Vlad Wizard to return! Totally love that you're still using that as your edit-in character btw
Well during Warriors of the Eternal Sun, the comments were practically demanding that Wizard Vlad become a mainstay.
I was one of those commenters on at least one video.
Glorfindel was a badazz elf in the Tolkien universe.
The best thing about Hero Quest is Barbarian. Look at the muscularity!
I like female barbarians too. So -well-toned and Amazonian- **bzzrt** *OVERSEXUALISED. BEEP BOOP.*
we had a copy of this, missing a lot of pieces though. I just used it to play a normal D&D game with my cousin and best friend once.
I loved hero quest as a kid. So fun, glad to see this game 😊
This got me into the mood to play some old rpgs like The Summoning or Ultima Underworld.
5:25 "Vlad is now canonically a wizard, and there's nothing you can do about it".
Now, was this Jared declaring this or Vlad reaching through the aether with his magical powers to simply remind everyone?
5:58 I could have sworn the default elfs name was Glorihole when i first saw it
Can't wait for the best thing about HeroQuest; The GAHGOYLE
Holy moly I loved this game growing up me my brother my cousin and my brother’s friends play hero quest every Friday it’s awesome
When I first played this I had to laugh at the default character names; I had already named my Barbarian after Conan, but *Konan* with a K because he's so hardcore!
Glorfindel is an elven prince from *The Lord of the Rings* (his name is misspelled probably to prevent the Tolkien estate from going after Gremlin). He is Legolas' brother and generally AWESOME; soloing a Balrog in the olden days and taking on the Ring Wraiths so Frodo and the Fellowship could escape. In the Peter Jackson movie, he doesn't appear so that a *woman* (Arwen) could take on the Wraiths instead and be an empowered girl boss.
Glorfindel isn't his brother lmfao. The balrog fight you mentioned happened thousands of years before legolas was even born.
@@dddgaming885 Your nerdiness made me look up Glorfindel lol. You're right; I was misinformed and Glorfindel is apparently actually older than Legolas' father Thranduil. Glorfindel apparently also appears a couple of times in the Peter Jackson trilogy but has no speaking parts. The rest of my previous comment remains true (I did say *the olden days* after all!)
Good to have you back Vlad. Hope the holiday was nice and chill.
EA is trying to charge for some of these abandoned games. They’ve taken some of the abandon ware and offered it through their EA Pro subscription. Probably hoping people won’t realize these games are free.
Honestly this unlocked an OLD memory for me. My mom tried to get me and my brother to play heroquest after my dad broke up with her. She got so pissed that a 3 & 5 year old didn't get it 😅
I played it back then on Amiga. Played it a lot!
Never played this game, or the apparent board game, but this music is making me feel nostalgic.
This'll be a great series, It came from dos.
My uncles had this board game and I guess it’s where I technically got into Warhammer Fantasy
I own the original board game. Found it at a yard sale for $5. It was complete with nothing punched out. Still play it when I can.
dude. if it was not punched out that would of been worth like 500-1000 dollers depending on the box's condition.
I'm very sad I missed the DOS stream, looking forward to more of these videos.
"I used to be a hero like you, but then I got hit in the leg with a crossbow bolt."
Played the board game with my 6 years old nephew last christmas. It was my first time playing it and we had a blast.
Thanks for this Jared and Vlad, good to see you.
I f*ing love this!!!!
I played this so so SO much!!
It was only later when i got My hands on the board game version
Wait there's a DOS version of this? What!?
I remember being obsessed with this game in my preteen years lol.
It's funny he said the elf was closest to rogue when it's actually the dwarf in this game
i like the idea of this. i love DOS games but i hate playing them. but love watching someone else play them.
Five years into the future, Jared announces to us all, the arrival of his first-born son:
Glorfindle Knabenbauer
Twenty years into the future young Glorf resents his father for his poor choice of given name. It was then Jared revealed “Your name was taken from a DOS abandonware game that was a port of a tabletop board game from 1989. Glorfindle remained unimpressed and resentful.
I really need to get a copy of the board game again. My childhood copy was destroyed. Never played it right, I was young and my sister had no interest. Had a lot of fun messing with it myself and planted the seed that became my love of rpgs later
to fix glitching graphics and sound you probably need to play with the emulated clock speed a bit. vanilla dosbox's defaults are not very good
damn i love hero quest so much
cheers
Yes, adjust the cpu cycles up or down to find the sweet spot where the sound doesn't crackle. Try ctrl+F11 to lower and ctrl+F12 to raise the amount of cycles. You should be able to see a print out of the change in the DOSbox console window or whatever it's called, that opens along side the game.
Some of this music sounds a bit familiar. I definitely heard golden brown in there 13:30
I had this as a kid. No idea what happened to it, but I still have a few of the dice for some reason
I still use 3d furnitures for my D&D games
For the record the fire spells you used don't roll dice in the game. They deal a set amount of damage and then they are used up for the rest of the quest.
If I remember right the Dwarf was the closest to a thief in the board game since he was the best at disarming traps and the only one who could do it without tools? It's been a while.
Somehow i knew this wasn't going to be about Quest for Glory (originally called Hero's Quest in it's first installment)
Not complaining tho! Could never have enough DOS games on the channel
I always had fun thinking about how insanely easy other Sierra adventures would be if Devon Aidendale was the protagonist.
I loved the board game! I still have my original copy! There is also an unreleased version for NES!!!!
Welcome back Vlad! Hope you had a good vacation.
as Pushing Up Roses said : DOS is boss.
Never knew there was a DOS game for hero quest.
My group made heavy use of the surprisingly nice minis for our dnd games
I had this as a kid, it was my favourite board game.
the boardgame version, that is.
DOS era games? Dude, I'm so ready.
Gateway drug to AD&D for me.
Shits lit. Love me some old abandonware. You should do a GOG showcase some time!
Love dos games and still play them via dosbox. Romance of the three kingdoms 3 is one of my favorite strategy/historical simulator for dos.
Was it added in post, or is that a legit AdLib version of Golden Brown by the Stranglers???
THE BEST THING ABOUT HERO QUEST IS THE HERO QUEST DOS GAME
just can't wait until you play the dos box games.
This was pretty cool! Already excited for the next Game ^^
Woah! my Dad had this game when I was a kid and I used to love playing with it
i had this game, though no friends to play it with. still own the game though.. i used the mini's to paint up and used the cards for ideas. (i own two of its, expansion packs?) yeah, it was an interesting take on dnd board game..
My parents had the Hero Quest board game.
They never played it, though.
This game looks fun! A simple lil rpg crawler for some chill time.
Will he use his broadsword, or fire of wrath? Only Rogar the Barbarian and Zargon know for sure.
are you playing this in a web browser? i find web emulators to be kindof crunchy like that, it's too slow to keep up.
I think Glorfindel is an elf from LoTR
Today It was an awesome episode i suggest to keep them coming
Finally, the king has returned.
Phoning in the BardicBroadcast!
the boys are back. welcome back vlad hope the break was nice.
