Took me years to realise how much Weller was influenced by Village Green Preservation Society: the escalating riff during Steam Powered Train is in A Bomb In Wardour Street, and Johnny Thunders surely influenced part of In The Crowd. Totally inspired influence.
Seen them in Dublin 1978 all Mod Cons Tour ! Never see the likes again ! Fair play to the Jam for coming over to Ireland back then with what was going on up in the North of Ireland ! Hat,s off to them
The 3rd album by The Jam, "All Mod Cons" was much better than the previous efforts and featured this great cover of a song by The Kinks and is a pun on the band's association with the Mod revival.

Wondering about the photo of Peter Cook in the background? This clip is from the brilliant, but shortlived T.V. program, Revolver, which he hosted in 1978, in the character of a dodgy, surly, owner/manager of a club.
Thanks for that heads up!. I was wondering how Peter Cook was getting a look in (but he was everywhere at his peak). I imagine he was great in that role. I am off to research the program.

I was lucky enough to see them live many times. People today have no idea how good they were!
I luckily did discover them in early 78 when living in West London. Changed my life!

All Mod Cons such a classic album & first one i brought / heard when it came out 1978 my 2nd year into punk age 14
