This is from ITVs "Revolver" with Peter Cook as the reluctant MC/Club Owner who introduced bands in the style of "Ive never heard of 'em but you might like it..." It was a class show and all bands performed totally live
massive part of my growing up at school , had the fish tail parker, boating shoes and blazer, fred perry top and stay pressed chinos... Ow and freezer bags full of evo stick .... good times
Took me years to realise how much Weller was influenced by Village Green Preservation Society: the escalating riff during Steam Powered Train is in A Bomb In Wardour Street, and Johnny Thunders surely influenced part of In The Crowd. Totally inspired influence.
Seen them in Dublin 1978 all Mod Cons Tour ! Never see the likes again ! Fair play to the Jam for coming over to Ireland back then with what was going on up in the North of Ireland ! Hat,s off to them
@fifthof so right, centre of the world for all the cast offs from other countries,if I won the lottery I would buy lighthouse and helicopter, fuk you lot
They did an ace cover of the Small Face's Get Yourself Together, on 'Extras', plus the Motown classic Move on Up, and then there's Heatwave, on one of their early albums 🤓
The 3rd album by The Jam, "All Mod Cons" was much better than the previous efforts and featured this great cover of a song by The Kinks and is a pun on the band's association with the Mod revival.
Wondering about the photo of Peter Cook in the background? This clip is from the brilliant, but shortlived T.V. program, Revolver, which he hosted in 1978, in the character of a dodgy, surly, owner/manager of a club.
Thanks for that heads up!. I was wondering how Peter Cook was getting a look in (but he was everywhere at his peak). I imagine he was great in that role. I am off to research the program.
@Girls on film That was why I forgot it. I was 19 then and don't ever remember getting back from the pub on a Saturday night in those days. I suppose I must though.
It was my first proper album that I bought...(I dont include 'Midnight Hustle' compilation..lol) i was about 10... Played it in front room with my parents about....then Mr Clean comes on with the lyrics 'if I get the chance i'll fuck up your life '..... Record turned off and returned to rumbelows and my dad swapped it for Wings greatest hits....i was gutted but I got a decent story out of it and to be honest ... I think I'd listen to wings more these days...lol

Paul Weller should have never left this band. Mick Jones should have never abandoned Joe Strummer. Fergal Sharkey should've never left the Undertones. JJ should've never had it out with Hugh Cornwell. Stupid egos and drugs left us hanging and none of them were ever the same again.
Why dont we have music like this today instead of the boring rubbish we do have. Im fed up listening to male and female singers going on about relationship break ups.

I remember that show. It was different for the time. It came on late, 11 o'clock ish.
Great!!
My name will always be remembered
😂 good shout.
One of the very best power trios in rock, ever. Really wish I was smart and lucky enough to have discovered them in my impressionable youth.
You wish you were smart like David Watts
massive part of my growing up at school , had the fish tail parker, boating shoes and blazer, fred perry top and stay pressed chinos... Ow and freezer bags full of evo stick .... good times
This was one of my highschool bands, along with Devo and the Kinks
I was lucky enough to see them live many times. People today have no idea how good they were!
I luckily did discover them in early 78 when living in West London. Changed my life!
A great cover of a Kinks classic!
Took me years to realise how much Weller was influenced by Village Green Preservation Society: the escalating riff during Steam Powered Train is in A Bomb In Wardour Street, and Johnny Thunders surely influenced part of In The Crowd. Totally inspired influence.
Fantastic! Wow, The Jam, such energy and honesty, we won't see the likes of for a long time.
wont see this ever again
in my life time fan since the 70s
Great performance! Bruce Foxton totally looks like David Cassidy in this one. Love it.
He’s always reminded me of Doyle from the PROFESSIONALS,actor Martin Shaw .🇬🇧👍

@@growlerthe2nd712 Yep, and Buckler is Dennis Waterman/Terry McCann off Minder!
Did you ever see Bruce Foxton and David Cassidy in the same room? Just askin'
I always think he looks a fair bit like the Irish snooker player Ken Doherty.
Damn shame they weren't that big in the US. Thank you Robert for turning me onto them via Snap back in '86 on cassette :)
The crowd are amazing in this!
Yes🤔 look like a genius fan club. God this f fantastic up the jam
These guys touch my soul every time.
What's that about Jimmy Savile?
@@margin606 He said soul, not hole.
This is one of my favorites , when most of my 18 yr old contemporaries were listening to disco still 1977/8
The days of Punk Rock and New Wave were great days.
Awesome clip
The robot dancing at the end is fantastic. I keep replaying them. Looks like Paul Weller is doing it at the beginning.
fantastic Cover.
i feel very happy to see the kids having fun in the crowd...
#thejam #mods #punks #skinheads

All time fave band. Timeless. Fuckin brilliant x

Les Kinks grands créateurs et inventeurs du Rock .
⭐⭐⭐⭐
Those of us coming of age in the late 70s were lucky with the soundtrack of our lives.
England is such a beautiful and healing place- I would give my life to protect that sacred place x
And....what about it today? 19 July, 2018?
@fifthof so right, centre of the world for all the cast offs from other countries,if I won the lottery I would buy lighthouse and helicopter, fuk you lot

Many people have done just that Lou
@@tigertruckerman I must live in a lighthouse because somebody keeps phoning me wife and asking "is the coast clear?"
They done the Kinks proud here,Jam never done other bands songs

最高の3人!カッコいい!洗練されてる!

Love the Jam! They were my teenage years and an inspiration for everything after. Great cover of the Kinks number ❤
The 3rd album by The Jam, "All Mod Cons" was much better than the previous efforts and featured this great cover of a song by The Kinks and is a pun on the band's association with the Mod revival.
Robert Middlemiss you may think so but the Mod Revival didn't really happen till after the albums release
All Mod Cons = All Modern Conveniences in British flat for rent ads
Clever pun.
