I saw the Two tone tour down in Brighton Top Rank suit back in 1979 i too was 16, specials, Madness and selector. It was a great gig, and almost no one in the audience. Maybe only about 100 people. Those were the days!
RIP to JB, the best ska drummer ever, and Rico. How I miss the Specials. As audience members, we use to lose 5 kilos just watching Neville run around the stage during the entire set.
At 58, remember these tunes well! times were simpler in my youth [ or so i thought, well done maggie for fcuking it all up, nothings changed, 45 years later ] 😎😎😎😎😎
@@gjingodjango Not really, Britain was already fucked by '79 thanks to the 74-79 Labour clowns. All anyone could do was pull something from the wreckage.
Long live Jerry Dammers! He founded 2 Tone Records, & could The Specials have been as raucous without that keyboard. Not to mention Jerry's involvement in 2 tone & anti-apartheid activism. Still listening here in Canada.
A) sensational, there was a period of maybe 6 months when they were PERFECT B) 1979 half way up the M1 we stopped in a service station and all the Specials were in there buying burgers and milk shakes. They were vaguely menacing!
I saw the firstly supporting The Clash as the Coventry Automatics, then at The Nashville in West ken saw then, supported by Madness, who left straight after their set to do their own headline gig at The Dublin.
The problem with music today "Back in my day" is you don't have this anymore. Good music by an actual band. Isn't the whole thing about creating music that's good, fun, (sometimes aggressive), and poignant to everyday life. Not the constant dribble in everything radio?
Little division? So the Brixton riots, the Nazi boneheads in their thousands, the sus laws, and the signs 'no dogs, no blacks, no Irish' were all just demonstrations of blissful unity? It must be because I was young then, that I completely misinterpreted these occurrences. edit : I was in New Cross the other day, and came across the New Cross Massacre memorial. Another reminder of, as you claim, how little division there was, perhaps?
If you have a good sound system, turn Rudy up to neighbour complaint volume level, stand in the middle of the room and try to stand completely still until the cops arrive.
Weren't we lucky back then?
Definitely
100%
Weren't we just
So right dude 😊

Totally agree with your choices! I had a cassette mix of JD, Crass, UK Subs, and Stiff Little Fingers ❤
RIP Terry.
What a fantastic band. The tunes, the musicianship, the message, the lyrics. And they're from Coventry!
Excelente video. The Specials forever 🎉🎉🎉
I missed my chance to see these guys, but I did see The Beat!
they sound AMAZING LIVE!
They were fantastic no doubt....
RIP to JB, the best ska drummer ever, and Rico. How I miss the Specials. As audience members, we use to lose 5 kilos just watching Neville run around the stage during the entire set.
Don't forget we lost Terry Hall back in 2022!
Madness, Selector and so on - brilliant - but nothing more genuine than the Specials
1979 the best 😎😊
I saw them back then and it was one of the best concerts ever! So much fun.
Great tunes. Great drumming!
Nails that 2 and 4
As much as I like the late 70s British SKA. The original Jamaican artists are always going to be my favorites.
Agree ,but without 2tone we never would have known the originals!!! 2tone was a revolution!!❤
They are all original just different
What a gem! So fun to watch! Time to put some of the good old records on the turntable tonight and dance!
Sheer sheer beauty and genius
Makes you look back with rose-tinted glasses.
But the '70s were a pretty grim time.
fantastic
VERY SPECIAL ❤
Timeless tunes......love them
Thanks for the upload!
Welcome Dave, post some more tomorrow.
This is so good...thanks for the memories...LARGE
Niteclub one of best songs ever made!
Brings back memories from my college days. I still have the album. Sadly never saw them perform, though.

Best ska band ever!
Have you ever listened to the original Jamaican artist? They are thee best.
Saw that triple header at De Montfort Hall, Leicester. The Specials were special and Madness just Mad. What a great time it was indeed❤
Remember watching this when it was broadcast and was completely blown away
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
God I loved the Specials!! Still got a framed 'Specials' LP on my wall..

Rico! Love love love
What a BAND,
I remember getting a dj to play to ‘to much to young’ at a wedding outside Warwick back 78/79….. just to get people to dance
The Specials r very cool 😎
Outstanding! 🔥🔥🔥

Aahhh Annie nightingale absolutely a legend!!! RIP 😢
Yeah the good old days i was 16 in 1979
We saw a few years ago ( probably a lot longer) in Bournemouth, we're 4 old rockers so not our bag you might think, but absolutely amazing gig !
I was 10 when I heard this, we all got black ties and overnight become ‘Rude Boys’. Their first two albums are masterpieces!
God speed, Terry.
Original lineup Linville and Terry rip😢
That snare!!!

Still cant get any old people who watch death in paradise to believe a message to you rudy was the original....maybe one day

My God RICO RODRÍGUEZ and CHRIS CUTTLER. ❤❤
Terry Hall rapping
I love you
Back then there was little division between races, we all got on and shared all , music to be one of them.... "They" couldn't have that could they?
Little division? So the Brixton riots, the Nazi boneheads in their thousands, the sus laws, and the signs 'no dogs, no blacks, no Irish' were all just demonstrations of blissful unity?
