Thank goodness the cameras were there to capture this 1980 performance by the group. They had just come back from England and you hear how tight they are. Within a few months they would rocket to superstardom.
Very emotional Bisscute well done and yes this song relates to many families today Love your reactions keep up the good work Love from Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
@@Punkbunnymusic that is an excellent question and the same question i have been asking since the late 80's about concert video of so many different bands. it is like pulling teeth to get these bands to release more of their concert video from so many eras and tours. just like this one here, i was only six years of age in 1980 and never went to any of these shows. i would love to see the whole concert on here.
Right before Reagan was elected, a really great period of time, musically and otherwise. Loved the Go Go's during their Garage Band stage, with Margot as the bass player
Seeing one of my favorite bands on the same marquee with another of my favorite bands -- Oingo Boingo -- is so 😎. I wish I could've been there but I was only 6 years old.
Correction: It's not Kathy Valentine on bass, but original founding bassist Margot Olavarria. Later in 1980 she got sick with hepatitis A and the band had a string of sold out shows to do, so auditioned Kathy as a fill-in and she just stayed because she fit in with their move to a more pop sound. Margot wanted to stay more punk.
Thank you for this! Remember seeing you all at The Music Machine (think that was the name of the place) in SoCal before your record deal. Knew you were destined for greatness even then!👍🏻
Nice story: The Go-Go's played a gig at a small club in Indianapolis called Crazy Al's in 1981. Some friends of mine in a local band opened for them and did a Textones cover that they did not realize Kathy Valentine had written. They were mortified and apologized profusely, but Valentine was flattered and loved it.
You can see their punl roots in this before they moved more into mtv pop music mode. Really talented band, i saw them at NYU before they hit it big, really kicked it.
Pretty sure the girl with the big blonde hair and white t-shirt getting thrown around was my sister. We grew up in So Cal and were going to those clubs as teenagers in the late 70’s early 80’s. She would have been 19 at this show.
Nice to see women with actual TALENT and MUSICIANSHIP again instead of that vapid garbage that passes as music today for Gen's Y and Z. Oh to go back to 1981!
This is a really nice looking music video. Is there a full video of the show? I have been to the Whiskey A-go-go once for a Spanish metal band featuring a young good looking female singer. ❤
THE GO-GO'S gets top billing over OINGO BOINGO. Girls stage diving and crowd surfing. A real innocent time. Plus The Surf Punks. Don't tell me that LOS ANGELES did not have the best music scene ever.
Remember when you could ride in the back of a pick-up truck? I saw them at the Greek Theater around 1980, I hooked up with a chick in the parking lot; good old days.
I can’t tell if you’re being sarcastic, but I’m assuming you’re referring to the bass player. You have to remember that the video is from 1980, and that’s their original bassist, Margo Alavarria. I hope I spelled her last name correctly. Anyway, she left around 1980; I can’t remember when in 1980 she left. She was then replaced by Kathy Valentine.

In the Showtime documentary they said playing in front of angry British skinheads trained them to play better 😂
I was there! The Dead Kennedys were the 1st act!
@ Lucky you ! It looks a fun but chaotic show. I’m amazed how Belinda was able to handle guys jumping on stage and trying to take off their pants. Lol
Seriously, it’s the best live performance I’ve seen of them.
See also: The Surfrajettes.
From Urgh! A music war. Love this performance! And to see Oingo Boingo and the Go-Go's on the same marquee, wow!
High value production for 1980. Glad this exists
One of the best I've ever seen! Better than a lot of todayy's.
It came from a life changing movie I saw as a kid.
@@erolcims6664Which was called...???
Very high-def!
@@lemurianchick did you read the description?
That's some top notch camera work for 1980. Absolutely freakin' AWESOME clip. Hope there are more of these in the "vault".
They paid their dues in the punk scene...old school style as well. These days most would walk away than endure.
Alright someone get me a time machine. I miss shows like this when you could randomly get on stage and dive back in.
huh? they still exist
This video shows exactly why they did what they did. Great showmanship, so tight as a band. Awesome.
I love the GO GOS💖
Every video by them is a treasure delivered. Thanks gals.
This is glorious!!!!
Sure brings the memories back. Awesome!
Very emotional Bisscute well done and yes this song relates to many families today

Love from Australia 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
WOW..! So clean & remastered. I love this. Jane Weidlin was so damn cute too.
♡♡♡d this super cool band. Did my curling bar reps to this super cool song...100 to 1000..my legs never looked better. Tx u mucho!!!
WOW Never seen this one before!
They played The Whiskey a Go Go several times in 1980. January 2, March 14, 15, 16, August 8, 17, September 12, 13, and December 31.
I would die to see the entire set of this performance.
You think the Whisky has it? Or the Urgh a music war producer?

The sound is fantastic!!
Back in the day when could cruise around town in the back of a pick up.
Those were the days alright.
That is insanely good!
Fantastic

huh? this girl stagediving in 1980...that's awesome. great quality btw
I still listen to this music.
I fact the other night I listened to this whole album.
Their Greatest Hits loaded in the car.
@ I don’t have a car.
We had some of the most awesomest music ever.
wonderful 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼

Can't wait
Go Gos and Oingo Boingo?! I bet Rodney on the Roq was there that night
I was 7, living on Long Island with my Mom daydreaming about seeing them. Sick times.
Excellent video and sound!
Keep telling people, bucket list performance every effin time.
Such babyfaces but so good.. takes me right back.
I would love to be part of their back stage antics.
That was peak GoGos
Freaking awesome. ❤🤩❤🤩❤
Thank you for this! Remember seeing you all at The Music Machine (think that was the name of the place) in SoCal before your record deal. Knew you were destined for greatness even then!👍🏻
Yes, The Music Machine! I saw the Violent Femmes there in 1984!
Belinda is so cute ❤
Age is a double edged sword....
Sure miss those times
The quality rivals anything present day.
Actually it is better,no.auto tune or lip syncing which is like 95% of all 'live' performances these days
I used to mosh and body surf in my 20s in the 90s. I had no idea people were doing that in the late 70s early 80s. Cool video!
Most 80s thing I've ever seen
It's a shame they couldn't get their shit together and remained a group that would have evolved over the decades. Egos.

Very cute very good tone
Great power pop
Fast times!
I wish Jane & Charlotte would write their autobios like the other members. I read their chapters in John Doe's books and would love to hear more.
Surf Punks!

Loved you Ladies 💫 for many Moons 🌜🤘🏻🎼🌹
URGH A MUSIC WAR
I always liked that subtle growl Belinda had in her singing. You can hear at 0:20 on the "they" of, they don't know.
Jane messes up a chord at 1:26 ! Love it!
Jane Wiedlin is so underrated.
Someone please give me a time machine 😢
Serious babes
So punk. Love it
❤❤❤
Margot's on bass here, yeah? (pre-Kathy Valentine).
oingo boingo! in 1980!
I saw Oingo Boingo in 1980 at The Santa Monice Civic Center opening for XTC!

Who cleaned this footage up? It looks amazing. Thank You. Can we get the rest of URGH! remastered as well? Looking at you, Copeland Bros.
Better than all of the music these days!
And it was all live. No backing tracks.
We god dod bit.
This is a really nice looking music video. Is there a full video of the show?
I have been to the Whiskey A-go-go once for a Spanish metal band featuring a young good looking female singer. ❤
I Love Belinda❤❤❤❤❤
I don't think the Go-Gos had been signed yet. This movie also features Klaus Nomi.
We are not old
Chunky!
Such a great time for the SoCal music scene. And, before Kathy Valentine had joined the band.
A few months before Kathy Valentine joined.
Crowd surfing girl now in her 60’s😂
I KNOW THEM CHIC BAND

Was Jeff Spicoli there?
1:27 LOL
This whole documentary is available on DVD from Warner Archives...does anybody know what a DVD is....lol.
Crowd surfing chick is now in her 60’s and tries to convince her grandkids that she used to be fun.
Um that was body surfing turned sexual assault. They were tearing her shirt even when she got put down.
@@penguin44ca exactly, just a bunch of guys feeling her up.
Punk was assault.
Many of the people in this video, that are still alive, are now collecting social security.
Remember when you could ride in the back of a pick-up truck? I saw them at the Greek Theater around 1980, I hooked up with a chick in the parking lot; good old days.
💄💋❤💥
Oh, that's not a good look for Belinda!
Dude @ 1:43 looks like he’s about take the song’s title a little too far. Thankfully the bouncer made him go-go before he could.
I like the new girl

They should have pulled that girl’s shirt off. Back then you didn’t get in trouble!
She looks like.xuxa
"Punk" 😂😂
Dear every drummer…please don’t set your toms up like that.
Wow she was a tank then!!! Horrid.
I was thinking the same thing, I don't remember her that fat😅
Belinda, marry me
She so heavy then she could marry you and your brother.
Still edible
Dont tell my wife but Im still in love with Belinda shhhhh
Damn she still looks so beautiful 😊
Every time I hear this song I always think of the Jimmy Neutron movie
