An ABSOLUTE masterclass. The very, very end of The Jam Live when Paul was at his peak. Couldn't get better than this, probably the best version of Town Called Malice Live he's ever done. Outstanding.
Just listened to this with headphones. That drumbeat is absolutely killer, and totally spot-on timing wise. Combined with Foxtons baseline, it was an integral part of The Jam's sound. Just timelessly brilliant.
Probably the best live version of this I've ever heard..what a night watching amazing quality old Jam tunes, the best of, live....what more can a man want?? This takes the biscuit for me anyway, for sure. Good stuff 'aceface, awesome stuff in fact!
People commenting here saying they were THERE. Blimey, what I would give to say I have memories like the ones you guys are sharing here. Mod on, fellow Jam fans. ✌🏻️
Uma das melhorea bass lines de todos os tempos! Adoro Paul weller e amo the jam eternamente! Paul um puta letrista e compositor! E essa é a melhor versão.
Songwriter: Paul Weller Lyrics: Better stop dreaming of the quiet life, 'cause it's the one we'll never know And quit running for that runaway bus 'cause those rosy days are few And stop apologizing for the things you've never done 'Cause time is short and life is cruel but it's up to us to change This town called malice Rows and rows of disused milk floats stand dying in the dairy yard And a hundred lonely housewives clutch empty milk bottles to their hearts Hanging out their old love letters on the line to dry It's enough to make you stop believing when tears come fast and furious In a town called malice, yeah Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba Struggle after struggle, year after year The atmosphere's a fine blend of ice, I'm almost stone cold dead In a town called malice, ooh yeah A whole street's belief in Sunday's roast beef Gets dashed against the Co-op To either cut down on beer or the kid's new gear It's a big decision in a town called malice, ooh yeah The ghost of a steam train, echoes down my track It's at the moment bound for nowhere Just going round and round, oh Playground kids and creaking swings Lost laughter in the breeze I could go on for hours and I probably will But I'd sooner put some joy back In this town called malice, yeah In this town called malice, yeah In this town called malice, ooh yeah
Weller did some good stuff after (in particular, the Style Council's first album is great), but he never equaled the best Jam output. Agree with others, probably best they ended when they did. Just remarkable work, remarkable band.
Bruce Foxton, one of the most unrecognised but best British bass players ever. He should be in a hall of fame if he's not already.
+Garryoke100 100% this
Cheers mate
100%
I could listen to him playing bass guitar all day.
Bruce sure rocks that bass guitar. So melodic.
An ABSOLUTE masterclass. The very, very end of The Jam Live when Paul was at his peak. Couldn't get better than this, probably the best version of Town Called Malice Live he's ever done. Outstanding.
Yep, it's awesome
These lads meant something and deserve massive respect .
Still mean something always will today tomorrow always all day
Absolutely!
This has got to be one of the best versions of A Town Called Malice!
Ever;-)
I was about 12 when this was released, straight to number one. Glorious track
40 years ago and the words are still ringing true Weller at his best🙏🏻
If there was one band that would regroup and do a few big gigs at knebworth one last time, the jam would be my choice 👍🏼
what a drummer, Rick Buckler is. his bass patterns and faultless stick work, is quite wonderful
Indeed, self taught too.
@@EM-yk1dw self taught……he’s not exactly buddy rich but he got the job done
@@mrknobchopps Exactly he did the job.
God I remember that night, Fred Perry polo and drain pipe jeans, a night that will always be with me!
That gear you've got on, its leather.
Where was this at?
That's when you still have the fire in your bellies and the talent to match it . Utterly sublime . We all need The Jam .
No mention of Ricks drumming in this ? Absolute awesome 👌
I get chills with that first bass line
I saw them live 38 times. He never missed a beat... absolute class
Just listened to this with headphones. That drumbeat is absolutely killer, and totally spot-on timing wise. Combined with Foxtons baseline, it was an integral part of The Jam's sound. Just timelessly brilliant.

The Jam and their music never ages, it sounds just as good today as it did when they first released it, an all time great band .....

This music takes me back to my youth as the Mod Revival spread eventually to Southern California in the early '80s. Great music!
So fierce and angry, love this performance forever.
English modern art uniting the youth of the time that lasts a lifetime. Pure class.

The Jam were so VERY English.
A jolly tune with bleak lyrics. We know, we are the working classes!!
The best homage to Motown sound. One of The Jam's best songs and my favourite one.
Totally agree on best homage ever to motown
So glad to have seen them "live" just the best night ever.
Saw them live at the Top Rank in Sheffield, I was 15 gave me goosebumps then and still does. The best band ever😎
Wow! A tough song to pull off live but they nailed it! And thank God they caught it live with decent sound and camerawork too.
Probably the best live version of this I've ever heard..what a night watching amazing quality old Jam tunes, the best of, live....what more can a man want?? This takes the biscuit for me anyway, for sure. Good stuff 'aceface, awesome stuff in fact!

Songwriter: Paul Weller
Lyrics:
Better stop dreaming of the quiet life, 'cause it's the one we'll never know
And quit running for that runaway bus 'cause those rosy days are few
And stop apologizing for the things you've never done
'Cause time is short and life is cruel but it's up to us to change
This town called malice
Rows and rows of disused milk floats stand dying in the dairy yard
And a hundred lonely housewives clutch empty milk bottles to their hearts
Hanging out their old love letters on the line to dry
It's enough to make you stop believing when tears come fast and furious
In a town called malice, yeah
Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba
Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba
Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba
Ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba-ba
Struggle after struggle, year after year
The atmosphere's a fine blend of ice, I'm almost stone cold dead
In a town called malice, ooh yeah
A whole street's belief in Sunday's roast beef
Gets dashed against the Co-op
To either cut down on beer or the kid's new gear
It's a big decision in a town called malice, ooh yeah
The ghost of a steam train, echoes down my track
It's at the moment bound for nowhere
Just going round and round, oh
Playground kids and creaking swings
Lost laughter in the breeze
I could go on for hours and I probably will
But I'd sooner put some joy back
In this town called malice, yeah
In this town called malice, yeah
In this town called malice, ooh yeah
Inge Justa van der Helm Strange how people still cant get the message though:-(
Footage makes me teary eye cause I never saw them live
