- Another video kind of demonstrating how I use Smooth-On Flex Foam IT 15 for my Robocop Midsection. Halloween is coming and I'm working hard to make my suit fully wearable for the day while my wife and I pass out candy to the kids. I go into some detail of how I use the material for my particular mold. It might help some of you for any of your future projects! Thanks for watching!

I worked selling house paint for 8 or so years of my life and spent a lot of that mixing and matching colors by eye. One day someone brought in black paint (never had to match black in 6 years of working.) I started by just adding tons of black pigment but it wasn't dark enough. I can't remember all the different pigments that I added, but I know blue, green and possibly magenta and yellow oxide. Look in to how painters (artist) mix their pigments and achieve dark colors, even black, using a color wheel and some color theory. Not sure if this would do the trick, but it may be worth studying. You could always test it by mixing small batches of pigment, painting them on a surface, then using something like a hair dryer to help dry them (pigment will typically darken when it's dried.)
That's great advice, thank you for sharing your experience. I'll definitely look into that. I painted the midsection and it came out perfect but testing pigments would be interesting.

Hey man, great work on the suit and your videos are have been greatly informative. I’m working on a Batsuit and am utilizing both Flex Foam it 15 and Vytaflex 40. Quick question I’ve done two test castings with the urethane foam and I keep getting rough surface, nothing smooth like that mid piece you pulled. My only guess is that I made a mold of a 3D printed belt buckle and I’m thinking the print lines created little cavities for air to accumulate. I didn’t use filler on the print because I wanted to test how much fine detail would be captured in the Rebound 25 silicone. Did you have this issue and how did you get such a smooth finish?

looking verry good so far..robocop..expecialy proportion wise and making it look right..is hard..and peter weller wasnt the biggest guy but his proportions where perfect..the chest and legs are the hardest to get right..but yours is looking awesome..cant wait to see the full thing on ya
Thank man I agree. The proportions on this suit are much better then other suits I've seen also. Especially my first suit when I look at it now it does look out of proportion.

Glad I found your channel. I’m doing something similar for a build. I wanted to know how long do you brush the product on the edges? Is there a point where the material has set enough that you stop?
Hey I'm glad you found it! For the first detail coat of silicone I brush just enough everywhere to make sure I capture all the details. Once I get full coverage of all the detail, I come back with a couple thicker coats to finish everything. With Dragon Skin 10 silicone I used..you have a pot life of 8 mins to get everything brushed on until the materials starts to thicken, so I try to get everything covered within that time but even when it starts to harden slightly you can still brush the material. You'll know when it's time to stop brushing. I hope that helps out!

@@offearth3dSorry about that I confused this with my recent molding video. Pretty much same concept expect your pot life is 2 mins. I always try to keep the material moving until it starts to set up. It will take a couple coats in your high spots to get coverage in some areas. You'll have to work fast and it might take a few coats in certain problem areas!

Smooth On does have distributors in Europe (Germany, France) you might want to hit them up and see what they have. It would probably be cheaper shipping then from the US.
Are you willing to sell copies of that foam midsection? Do you also have any other forms of social media? I am working out getting the pieces sliced and what not. An wouldn't mind having someone I could talk to about some of these parts I already can't figure out where they go.

Are you able to share the files you used to make the suit?
Yes sir. They are made by DarthAsen and the Robocop files can be purchased on Cults3D or Turbosquid or CGtrader.

Its pretty tough urethane foam. Still works today.
can this stuff be sanded?
No I don't think so.
