    I'm currently testing this C200 model too, i've been in the C220 and i'd recommend that over this petrol model. Damn good vehicle overall. Looks great, drives well and i'm a complete sucker for the ambient lighting!

    Hi Ciro the C-class is an impressive car, but the prices are going through the roof in SA. The C200 petrol has 150kw and 300nm and you have quoted the C220d power and torque of 147kw/440nm. I have a E200 with 9G Tronic and the gearbox is superb. Very smooth to drive.

    I genuinely love this new Mercedes-Benz C-Class , it really levelled up from the previous generation model especially when it comes to the interior, that ambient lighting is simply class leading 🔥

  • @SDav21
    @SDav21 Год назад +7

    It looks beautiful. Drives nice. But it's a no from me. I know 2 people who bought one and it was at Mercedes for months because the car would continuously disconnect from android auto stopping all music and navigation. It happens constantly making you miss turns etc. For R1 million navigation should've been standard. And if they wanted us to rely on android auto or apple car play then that should work flawlessly. Months at Merc and they couldn't even fix it. They gave the car back and bought a BMW.
    Also, the entire lower half of the dash and doors is hard hard plastic whereas all previous models were soft touch. Unacceptable at this price point. Material and build quality is not great.

    • @kagoya15
      @kagoya15 Год назад +1

      I agree with you. I honestly feel the price point of Mercedes is no longer worth what you’re getting. At that price point, many things should come standard in a car that’s considered a luxury brand. I have driven Mercedes since 2005, and as a person who is well versed with this brand, I just don’t see the point of spending money on this brand anymore. The materials used in the interior are not as refined or as luxe as they used to be. So much hard plastic. The handling feels great, I won’t take that away from Benz, but the materials used to build the body are so light, it honestly doesn’t feel the same. Also, the highly technologically spec’d cars also leads to so many issues, that when one thing doesn’t work, it’s a domino effect, and you have no option but to wait for months sometimes( without your car) , while waiting for a solution. For the first time since 2005, I’m looking at other brands. I saw a 2019 GLA with 20 000km, being sold for R999 999.00 at a Mercedes’ dealership. No AMG package. I’m not sure what extras that vehicle had , but that price for a GLA that’s second hand ? I was shocked.

    • @zuksontheline
      @zuksontheline Год назад

      The cheap plastic on the lower half of the dash and door cards is not funny but funny how all these reviews just make it a minor thing. I wonder how many w205 Owen switched to w206.

    • @SDav21
      @SDav21 Год назад +2

      @@kagoya15 Exactly. We've also had a few Mercedes over the years including a W124 E Class, a W203 and W204 C Class, W211 and W212 E Class. All models after these were so poorly made. I went to test drive the new E Class to replace my 2014. After driving it, I decided to keep mine. The new ones feels frail, brittle and cheap. Models with a few thousand kilometres already have interior wear that looks like triple the kms and the paintwork is terrible. You can see and feel the cost cutting. The feeling of solidity and the long lasting quality just isn't present anymore. I have also decided to skip Mercedes going forward and I am now looking at other brands. They just don't offer anything over mainstream brands at their prices anymore. In the past you paid for that solid feel, great quality, attention to details and great powertrains. Now they don't offer anything over and above despite the high price.
      And yes, I sat in a GLA and had a highly specced GLB on long term loan. The GLB was R1.2 million as equipped and the quality is simply bad for that price. The Chery Tiggo 8 Pro has higher quality material and build quality and even the Chery's switches feel of higher quality with better clicks and things are better dampened. This is really sad for Mercedes. They only rely on their name now.

    • @SDav21
      @SDav21 Год назад +1

      @@zuksontheline Exactly. I also find it funny how they ignore it. I was an avid avid Mercedes fan and was so loyal to the brand. Their recent offerings leave a lot to be desired. Honestly. There's mainstream brands selling similar cars at far lower price points. Most people haven't experienced the older Mercedes in detail and don't know enough to understand how they used to be. So now this rubbish they put out is accepted.

    • @kagoya15
      @kagoya15 Год назад

      @@SDav21 I know exactly what you mean. My plan was to trade in my 2015 ML for a GLE. I took the GLE for a test drive, and was shocked at the R1.5 million price tag for an entry level GLE , (that still needs extras) and didn't feel like it was worth that amount. And as you rightfully said, it doesn't feel luxe at all. Anyone buying these cars is really just paying for the memory of a brand that no longer embodies what it started off as. I test drove the Cherry Tiggo 8Pro, and was really amazed by how sturdy it felt, but also how it comes packed with so much at no extra cost. The prices of these cars in general have really skyrocketed to ridiculous levels in my opinion, but I feel some luxury brands are just taking people's money 🤑 because of their name. So many of the mainstream brands have improved the features quite a bit, it no longer makes sense to pay such an exorbitant amount for a name at the end of the day. I would much rather spend that R1,5 million on property tbh

    @calamari7862 Год назад +12

    I've owned one of these for the past 3 months and agree that it's a fantastic upgrade from the W205, however it has a array of tech issues such as front camera not working pulling into a parking, the main screen used to go blank once in a while, the stop/start function acted up for a week or so and then fixed itself somehow and once the car completely locked me out of it and refused to open citing a auxiliary battery failure, constant Android auto disconnections... these issues could probably be resolved with a software update but kind of disappointing these bugs weren't ironed out at factory - at least the ambient lighting is good

    • @rofhiwamuthivha3159

Ive been driving a c250 w204 Edition C for 9 years now and I’m looking to buy a new car but i am split between staying w/ Benz and getting this new iteration or jumping off to BMW to the new x3 and I think what’s been consistent in my research is Mercedes is great to look at but with minor issues that are absolutely unacceptable when you factor in the cost where as with BMW the quality is second to none across price range/ segments.

  • @SDav21

    There's more cost cutting here than the previous one though lol. Much more hard plastic. And all systems don't work as well either.

    The W205 is in such demand currently due to the new C-Class costing the price of a small apartment. Under ridiculous pricing at R1 million +. No reasonable person will upgrade hence so few pre-owned certified W205’s.
    The W206 is a recipe for disaster with the entire centre consol being a giant computer, IPad. I can’t imagine the repair on one of those or the time in the workshop even under motor plan.

      I'm 100% with you I'm a merc fan but the previous model looks better you can't compare this model with 3 series. Bmw 3 series looks way better.

    1 mil for a C-class. Last time I checked you could get a brand new Range rover evoque for 1.2 mil. If that's the kinda money you want to spend on new car then might aswell go for the Rover. But I suppose some people prefer sedans

    • @m2ngwa89
      @m2ngwa89 Год назад +4

      I wouldn't spend R1.2 mil on a Evoque which is the size of a Tiguan when I can spend less and still get a reasonably priced sized SUV like the Tiguan or Kia Sportage

    Not for me thanks! A million bucks for a C class?🤫 It looks too low for South African roads. And a fuel consumption worse than a SUV? When I drive around in town in my budget Suzuki Swift 1.2 AMT I also do not hear engine noise and I do not know what gear I am in. And I get a fuel consumption half of the Merc and the car costs a quarter of the Merc.

    on small engines diesel is the way to go. petrol just doesn't have enough low end torque to be comfortable and a luxury car. that said the only bad quality on my 205 is the leather from the seats and sorry but altough the car looks great no V8 or even a 6 cilinder make it lose all it's prestige and that screen can be amazing but i want buttons! and on the first models many people have issues with the screen going black meaning you don't have airco, heating seats, nothing... i hope the upcoming CLE will have the V8 because i don't need a car the size of an E class

    Pushing a button to activate your 360 degree camera when youre trying to park is such a hardship😂. Its nice, are the steering wheel buttons touch sensitive? That wasnt the best.. But,its not a bad luxury car overall, if i was of that financial fortitude i would probably take it over the Audi and BMW just for the luxury in tech it provides.

    Given that the Mercedes 600 Grosser was compared to Rolls-Royce, more expensive than Rolls-Royce and still sold in greater numbers than Rolls-Royce, there is absolutely no way Mercedes has its groove back.

    I beg to differ on a number of points- I had the W205 and I now have the newest C220d and the quality of materials are about the same. The current model also has squeaky, plasticky parts and they have certainly cut more cost in the latest version compared to the previous model. The newest model is supposed to be slightly larger but in fact it feels more cramped, at lest from the driver’s seat. Also, the older W205 design objectively looks better. Current model looks bland and from the front you will struggle to different it from the A class. The worst part is the rear, the W205 lights looks far better in the day and the night time.
    The colourful big screen and gauge cluster of the new model does look more fancy than the W205 but the touch screen and touch sensitive buttons on the steering has been very frustrating to use at times.
    The driving dynamics of the new C class is better than the previous generation and is a little more comfortable.
    The sad thing is that the competition is not much better, the 3 series is plain ugly but drives better and the A4 has a better screwed together interior but sadly the interior so so boooooring!

      Really? Perhaps we don't see the same. The old generation wasn't bad but interms of design it doesn't come close to the new. I agree in terms of material though, more or less the same, but looks I disagree.

    I had one of these.
    Poor interior quality and rattles and squeaks all over. Door cards etc.
    MBUX was a nightmare with software upgrades every month. Centre screen blanked on few occasions. ABS module broke after 10days after delivery. Took more than a month to fix.
    The interior lights and ambient stuff unnecessary.
    Not worth R1million.
