  • Part 2: • Elemental Gauge Theory...
Also known as Gauge Unit Theory, we tackle this very dense and elaborate system that dictates the behavior of all Elemental Reactions in the Genshin Impact universe.
    Attack GUs: genshin-impact.fandom.com/wik...
    Simultaneous Reaction Priorities: genshin-impact.fandom.com/wik...
We also explore how this system ties into some of the stronger team comps in the game that utilize popular characters such as Hu Tao, Yelan, Raiden, and Nahida.

An overwhelming majority of people on the ICD video seemed to be interested in learning more about Elemental Gauge Theory, so here's my attempt at explaining it. I seem to be saying this more and more these days, but sorry this is another REALLY long one - the topic itself is very dense, so I think content that attempts to cover it naturally tends to be longer. As complicated as the topic is, I hope that I was able to explain it in a way that's somewhat easy to digest and make the entire thing a bit more approachable.

As a former dev this brings joy to my heart, it is 99.9% completely explained : one thing that is forgotten is that there is a 0.2s delay between these gauges. Reactions had to be limited in order to reduce server strain + stress if multiple people would cause reactions with 0 second delay (indefinitely) would cause the host to crash. So these timers were added to reduce the stress.

Games are easier to develop nowadays and they need less and less man-power with all these new tools / assets and so on, however if its a triple A game with graphical fidelity that's when things change but genshin ? Meh 2 - 3 people are usually enough for the basic background counters and reactions and timers. Dev's just follow the architect or the project lead/specifications (documentation) of a specific feature and the dev just creates it , i seen people blame the wrong people the gacha wasn't our ideea its only the leader we Dev's just follow our documentation and make it happen we only say the impact of our code other than that people should stop bashing devs...

Simultaneous auras with reaction priority is also why Fridge/Hyperfridge teams are a thing. Dendro + Cryo can both be auras at the same time. When hydro is applied on the target with both, freeze gets the priority first, and thanks to the aura tax and the fact that freeze's coefficient is 1, if your cryo and hydro sources are the same gauge, the cryo will "shield" some of the dendro aura but let a little hydro leak through, which lets less hydro react with the underlying dendro. This can let you squeeze an extra bloom core out of the same amount of dendro application.

    • @mileskittman
      @mileskittman Год назад +6

Tis actually not so complicated. Short form is that you can control who in a party triggers a reaction. It will always be whoever applies less of their element, so that is the character who should be more heavily built, probably.
Xingqui with Yelan results in overwhelming Hydro application, making it very unlikely that either of them will be the one to trigger the reactions, and ensuring a stable Aura of Hydro on the target. Therefore, whichever Pyro unit is with them will be the one to trigger the reactions.
Inversely, as I tried to run before I ran into Gauge Theory, Kokomi/Yanfei/Noelle/Jean, as Yanfei applies Pyro only on field, and does so relatively quickly, a majority of the Vaporize triggers ended up being Kokomi's jellyfish, which is rather unsatisfying in its effectiveness. Trading Noelle for Xingqui solves that problem and allows Yanfei to trigger all the Vaporize reactions.

This is the clearest and easiest to understand explanation of Elemental Gauge Theory I've ever seen.
However, you are missing a few things.
Frozen and Hydro (or Cyro) aura can also co-exist when you trigger Freeze and then apply Hydro (or Cyro) to the Frozen enemy, which can be used to set up a double swirl. Also as other comments have mentioned, Frozen/Cyro and Dendro aura can co-exist, which is the main mechanic of Fridge team.
Another thing that might not be very useful but you can break elemental shield/armor with pure DMG (no reaction) as long as the DMG dealt is not the same element as the shield/armor, however, you need A LOT of DMG to break it. (usually 5x HP of the enemy who has the shield)

That bar really helps in understanding the theory
I used to read the theory but it took me a while to understand what's written there, especially in regard of mutilple aura reactions
I'd like to see what you left here explained in future video

Great job at teaching/explaining, which is challenging to do and takes a lot of work. Thanks for helping us understand the game mechanics better.

I've read the concept of gauge theory before but didn't fully understand it. Your video helped a lot to visualise what the theories actually mean. Looking forward to the next one!

your guides are entertaining, and make it easy to learn these things! i heard about the "gauge unit" thing and i tried looking it up but couldn't understand it, however this sort of visual learning makes it really easy to understand

I learn so much when it's on video, more than when I read about it. I would honestly love it if you did some more of these where you talk about the topics mentioned at the end of the video or about anything else really, also personally I don't mind how long the videos are.
