Addressing an oopsie that Vidmilo made in this video:
At around 9:51, I showed a short list of characters that are good for a newer genshin account to pick up for team building flexibility, but I didn't bother to elaborate more on other characters worth considering, or how they roughly compare to one another. Here's a more accurate extension of this list:
Highest flexibility - Nahida, Kazuha, Yelan - These characters can be fit into the vast majority of teams, and will expand team building options the most. Note that this does NOT mean any are necessary to wish for.
High flexibility - Ayato, Raiden, Kokomi - All fit into several archetypes, most of the time work as excellent substitutes for a BiS character in high demand.
Honorable mention - Zhongli - Mentioning him because he can be a comfortable damage to defensive utility exchange in almost any team, but only arguably necessary in teams that have an on fielder doing multiple slow charge shots. If you don't mind the loss in damage, you'll get good use out of him.
Horizontal investment tier - Most 5 star carries / damage dealers (Nilou teams, Xiao, Wanderer, Childe, Alhaitham, Yae, etc. ) - Some of the best options for horizontal investment, but can require specific higher demand characters to work. Some characters need a lot of vertical investment to work at their maximum potential (i.e. constellations, signature weapon), while others like Nilou might like specific teammates to unlock maximum potential (Nahida). Depending on the account's primogem situation, certain carries can be better or worse to go for than others, which I won't get into too much detail on here.
Hopefully this helps understand the reasoning as to why some "unconventional" characters are seen with the 5 stars regarded as the best, sorry for the confusion!

@@charameleos777 Hu tao if you're willing to invest a lot into her teams and maximize her gameplay, otherwise Childe for enabling arguably the best Xiangling vape team. If you're minmaxing, you'd want to pick either Xiangling or Hu tao to focus on.
Neither are necessarily more valuable than the other though, both will provide good value :)

A lot of people are calling him mid.
His value lies not just on easy mobile gameplay or aesthetics or DPS or whatnot; team comp possibilities with him is immense. For someone who hesitates what to do on certain Abyss floors, Ayato is a fail-safe option, therefore high in value.

I'm all about exposing gacha BS, but the Epitomized path was added sometime after a streamer (or two) lost like 7-8 times in a row. Tectone I know lost 7+ in a row to Wolf's Grave stone. So, the Epitomized path is actually a mercy, despite it still being pretty bad.
Agreed, it's good that it prevents scenarios like that! Didn't bother to mention it in the video since it's focused on maximizing accounts with a more limited primogem budget. Definitely better to have epitomized path than to not have it at all.

There was this Chinese Vtuber and I don't remember what weapon he was trying to get on the weapon banner but he kept getting elegy of the end like 10-15 times. This was also before the pity system and I can't seem to find this video clip anymore on RUclips.
As much as it prevents scenarios like that, I would’ve preferred for it to not reset because that’s just a spit in the face for F2P players. I was dumb enough to wish on that banner and lost twice to two weapons I didn’t want. Now is have 2 useless 5 star weapons lying in my inventory.
Just remember: this is a theory. In reality, you can spend your wishes on "pretty good" banner, and get 9 copies of Lions Roar instead of all those sweet Favonius and Sacrificial weapons.

The reality is using craftable weapons and freebie event weapons is not the way to go…

@@tahagmt7518 I notice Genshin gacha tends to getting "stuck" sometimes, when it starts spitting the same item over and over again. What is the chance of getting 3 or 4 copies of Thoma in a row? Still, it happened not once, but three times to me. I currently have C20 Thoma, and I don't even like him. I wanted to get C2 Diona, is all.
I have a few rules for the weapon banner that have helped me a lot as a late game player
1. don't wish unless you would be ok getting both weapons. like, I threw 30 wishes on the key/thousand floating dreams banner cuz I have both nilou and nahida, and if I didn't get I wouldn't have minded getting nahidas signature
2. limit yourself. don't go "I'll pull until I get x weapon or im out of primos." be like "I'll reserve 20-30 wishes for weapon banner and maybe I'll get lucky." personally, I like to throw wishes at weapon banner if I've been saving for a long time but won a 50/50 or know I have a guarantee on character banner
3. assume there's a character banner you'll want soon. ya know, just be smart abt it

Currently I want POLAR STAR BOW. And I am 40 wishes in, still not got it, but I am short on primos. Although I have enough for my next wanted character.
So I want to ask, that if weapon banner changes, does it take away all my 40 wishes ?
I mean currently I only need about 25 more wishes to get a 5 star weapon. But if weapon banner changes, does it restart my pity from 0 wishes?
@@pokemongameryt4383 I don't think so. If I understood correctly, the Epitomized path pity resets every new banner, not a pity for a 5 star in the weapon banner.

Remember that new characters open more playstyle options, whereas weapons just increase your numbers.

Mona with Favonius Codex, Emblem artifact set & good energy recharge stats is an absolute menace and proves she doesn't even need a 5 star weapon
Even the new event catalyst on Wanderer, Klee, Neuvelitte, Yan Fei, Wriothesley and Heizou is an absolute beast of a weapon

I'm a wanderer main and since I got him on his release I was determined to get his weapon on his rerun...but then he go put with kokomi on the banner...her weapon is the worst in game and now I don't know what to do...
My main objective is to make him op but...is it even worth it? It's between going for his weapon, going for his c2, and going for characters like kazuha, kokomi and zhongli which I don't have yet

so, if you're a dedicated wanderer main, then I wouldn't recommend going for his signature weapon. This is because his optimal combo involves using repeated charge attacks for both higher DPS and larger AoE. His signature is still good, but not a very big upgrade like mistsplitter can be for ayaka, for example. The fact that it's paired with the donut makes it even less efficient to go for.
So, if you're certain you want a wanderer upgrade, definitely go for cons instead!
What about characters that really need 4 star or better? Fischl is a good unit on any account, but her 3 star bows are apparently bad on her and everyone recommends Stringless at minimum. I run the Raiden National (Raiden/XQ/Bennett/XL) and Aggravate teams (Keqing/Nahida/Fischl/Zhongli).

I think it would still be wisest to not go for a specific 5* on the weapon banner unless you got 180 wishes, because you never know when you reach that epitomized path.
In my experience if I hadn't saved up that much and then some I wouldn't have gotten Redhorny and be left with two Memories of Guizhong the dusty lady, which yeah, I am gonna use on Wanderer when I get him, but it still would've been a big loss and likely regretted it.
There's one more thing that I think is worth considering when considering weapon banner vs. character banner as well. That being, it's a lot more resin efficient to level weapons to 90 then it is to level a character, their artifacts and their talents. Unless you're dropping primogems on resin refreshes or have some fragiles/transients to spend, you can generally expect maximizing any character you pull that you want to build to take a huge amount of resin, up to about 18 days of resin or so(I think?)without the assistance of already-existing resources(and this is not even considering the needed artifact EXP to level their artifacts), while a 5 star weapon only takes about 2 days of resin in weapon domains to level a 5 star weapon to 90. However, it's also worth considering that to do so takes around 900 Mystic Enhancement Ores, which translates to about 3600 ores from Crystal and Amethyst ore nodes. This is something you can grind out if you're willing(if not, you can make this process far easier by forging any magical ores you pick up; I wouldn't, though), and though it's a bit boring and VERY time consuming, it's still far, far more resin lenient then building characters. I've spent my resin every single day for about 20 months playing this game now, and I STILL don't feel like I have nearly enough resin for artifact domains; reason being, because I tend to focus on building characters much more often. A testament to exactly how much resin it takes to get your characters where they need to be at WL8.

Tbf, the Homa/Aqua banner was insane for those who had both Hu Tao and Yelan. I got lucky and got both weapons with 80 pulls. On the other hand, its hard to justify pulling for mistplitter when the other feature is terrible, thats why I wouldn´t say that mistplitter/unforged banner was great (the 4 stars are not enough to balance the chance of needing do go for full epitomized path). So for me, I only pull if both weapons are at least good.
aqua isnt worth it tho, fav is just similar
@@moritz4026 you're very wrong. Aqua is much better than fav. It's like 20% difference and it grows even higher if you have c1 Yelan. Aqua is also a great bow for other characters, being BiS or close to best option for majority of bow users.

Totally agree, I'm f2p so I had never wished on the weapon banner until homa/aqua because I wanted homa for my zhongli, and I got it on the first try, but part of me wishes I didn't so I could have both weapons. I don't have a bow dps character, so I certainly didn't need it, but I know one day it's gonna come back to bite me. But at the same time, I'm glad I didn't have to waste more primos to get the weapon I was after. Being f2p can be such a catch 22
I pulled for that banner an got Aqua at first try (the weapon that I wanted). It's really useful, considering that I use (or I'm going to use) characters that want that weapon (like Ganyu and Tighnari, and of course Yelan, but even Fischl and Amber)

Weapon banners only make sense if you want to minmax a certain character or team archetype. There is never a case where you would need to have these weapons. If you enjoy vertical investment, then go for it. If you enjoy having different comps and playstyles, getting more characters should be your priority. I'd say newer players should avoid weapon banners completely.
Disagree, to an extent. At some point you will have too many characters to deal with and won’t even use half of the characters you own. I think once an account has ~4 solid team comps they should think about wishing on weapon banner. Just my opinion though.
@@someguywithablueshirt4373yep fair assessment, that’s what im doing for my account as a f20 that started in patch 1.0. However, id recommend most people go for characters still since my experience is that horizontal investment helps way more with content like abyss than 5* weapons

dude thank you for this explanation, i always thought weapon banner odds were about the same except that soft pity started in the 60's instead of the 70's. didn't know the odds of the banner weapons also changed to 50/50 after losing once. this'll help me plenty when budgeting for focalors and her weapon.

This is the definitive weapon banner guide. I will be bookmarking this to share with friends who ask in the future!
A general rule is to avoid wishing on weapon banner for at least a year if you are a new player.
When you do the world fresh and quest, you get a lot of 4 star weapons (some needs to be crafted) and free standard banner wishes will give you 5 star weapons (but at much slower pace).
Also, your world lvl matters. Once you hit ar 45 its time to go farm weapon materials due to be more efficient.
Events also give you 4 star weapons from time to time, but they are not as good as banner weapons (exeption is one weapon, but its gone forever).
Ive only gotten 3 five stars from standard the 3 months ive been playing. Two of which were 5* weapons and only my most recent 5* off standard was a c3 constellation for Keqing, at 83 pity... No joke i went from having no constellation five stars to having a C3 Keqing because my last 3 out of 4 five star pulls were all Keqing. Two of which came off event banner.

@@juice3287 My traveler will never not be anemo. I'm not wasting funds or grinding for each typing every time. That said I do use Nahida, Kuki, Mona, and either Yoimiya or Shenhe as my main team but I've been working on Kaveh and Kirara for a back up dendro team for abyss. They are both mostly built aside from artifact's, but since I don't artifact farm I just need to level the artifacts they do have already.
I use Keqing in abyss along with shenhe Rosaria / Ganyu and either Noelle or Xiangling. The superconduct cryo buffs and the fact my Shenhe and Rosaria are mostly physical makes this team ironically slap. Kirara and Kaveh are for a third team, probably going to use Fischl or Beidou with Candace or Barbara and might just double up on hydro or dendro for fourth slot. Hyperbloom is too good.
I'm legit AR55 running around with a bunch of level 70 characters and teams.
Started in 2.8 and Bennyboy still using that 3 star green ER sword. Gonna craft him a sumeru leaf sword, but it's Xiang's lack of ER that's breaking my rational rotations.
@@samirSch Catch is so unbelievably awful to farm but such a huge upgrade...can just fav on XL with an ER sands too as you often have enough damage with Bennett's buff in all but a few scenarios

I didn't even tough the weapon banner until relatively recently (Raiden's most recent rerun as on June 2023). I was really focused on accumulating characters because for one, I just wanted them, and that's what I felt would lend most value to my teams (getting meta units like Raiden, Yelan, and Ayaka). Finally, I went for Engulfing for Raiden (got it), and have since then bulked up my 5* weapon collection a bit. I purposefully got Mistsplitter for Ayaka, Key for Nilou and Layla, and just recently Thundering for Yoimiya. I got Dreams for Nahida and PJWS for Xiao along the way (also Skyward Pride and two Lost Prayers from the Standard Banner).
My point here being, I definitely feel like the weapons make my characters better, but they're by no means necessary. If I didn't have the characters in the first place or the supports to utilize alongside them, the weapons would do nothing for me. I consider myself quite late game now and I decided weapons were what I wanted to spend my Primos (and a bit of real life money) on. You should almost always prioritize characters you want or will bolster your current DPSes because it's much easier to replace a 5* weapon with a 4* weapon, good artefacts, and good supports than the other way around.

I've only wished on character banners for a year and a half since I started the game and when I finally started wishing on the weapon banner for the first time I got all the weapons I was looking forward to get 😭 Ofc this is luck, but I now have ayato's, ayaka's swords, and I hope I'm getting yae's now
Speaking of 5star weapon value - it's important to compare it in real sutiations. In perfect world they are not so valuable, if you keep balance of stats, always playing correct etc. But just simple higher base atk became more valuable if you are often missing your buffs like bennet ult, and higher base is very pleasant in general, it make every your %atk on artifacts better. And last but not least, we don't have such a wide choise of crit 4-star weapons, basically only glitter weapons, battle pass weapons and crit catalyst. And without crit weapon it's more difficult to balance your stats in optimal way.

Very good to know. Iirc, the only time I wished on the weapon banner was during 3.2 when we had the Key and Jade Cutter. I figured I would be fine with either since I pulled Nilou and a few copies of Xiphos would also be nice.
Good video. Made me realize I'm pretty smort. I have never wished for weapon banner but there was one that was impossible to skip. The Raiden Ayato weapon banner. I ended up wishing on it because I have both characters + I needed Akuoumaru for Eula, Sacrificial Fragments and Favonious Lance copies. Insane thing is I ended up getting EVERYTHING I WANTED WITHIN 50 WISHES including both 5 star weapons!!!! Still cant believe it sometimes (I'm a.. from time to time welkin buyer).

The issue with making a video like that is that each weapon's value is highly dependent on the state of a genshin account. Plus, there are already several content creators making videos tailored to specific weapon banners and making weapon tier lists.
I'd suggest zajef77 for banner overviews (from an f2p perspective) and Jello Impact with their tier list to get a general sense of which weapons are good :) obviously their assessments won't always be perfect, but they will certainly help give a jump start for personal evaluation.
The current direction that I'd like to maintain for the channel is to have more timeless and universally applicable information, which is why I won't be doing something like banner/weapon reviews, since new characters and weapons come out all the time.
Thank you for this, I started searching which I shall pull for the 4.1 banners and currently guaranteed for c0 Hu Tao. My scenario is that after I got c0 Hu Tao, I am considering getting Homa or her c1. I have already Xingqiu, Yelan and Zhongli for her. Considering this video, I can't consider myself as a end game player since I just started playing genshin since 3.3 phase 2.
Also, the explanations are clear and convinced me not to waste primos for a weapon that you can't barely unless you are lucky. Especially me as f2p, it is much better to have many support characters rather than weapons you can't use for any character.
I couldn't agree more. Yes, weapons banner is a scam to new players but once you get enough characters, not wishing on it becomes a mistake. Everything in the game has diminishing returns and at certain stage, even getting relatively expensive weapons from the weapons banner is greater addition to the account than pulling for yet another new character.
yep and the more characters you get the more resources and time goes down the drain that should be utilized on your main teams.
I only partially agree with your comment because not pulling weapons being a mistake is only for abyss players. Anyone like me who only focuses on the main game doesn't need them, it's just over kill. My team is wiping out any and all enemies the main game has to offer and they're all using 4 star weapons that are good for them.
5 star weapons are for abyss players, collectors or people who want to push their builds to the max. For anyone who's just hanging about and enjoying the story and gameplay, a 4 star weapon works very well for clearing content easily
I had 60 something pity on my weapon banner and i thought I might aswell try to snipe Aqua Simulacra during Yelan's next rerun and this video really helped me in not doing so.
3/8 is a very low chance and I'd be wasting my EP if i did not get Aqua. Thank you so much for this video it helped a lot in potentially wasting my primogems in the far future for a banner with very little value
i simp for yelan, and thats why i decided to pull for her signature bow. but when i got it, i realized that for abyss its more effective to use favonius or stringless on yelan than just a "stick with crits". so yeah i get that 4* sometimes more useful than 5*
I can really recommend the weapon banner, if there are two good featured weapons (like Homa and Elegy for example). You can only get something bad this way if u lose the 75/25 and this is something that can always happen (like losing 50/50 on the character banner). Following this strategy I got Homa, Elegy, Stonethresher, Jadecutter and more.
