One awesome detail that I only recently caught: Emily is only snarky/rude to people she views as coworkers/competition - any time we see her interact with outside people, she's actually VERY nice. When she bumps into someone on the street, she immediately apologizes in a really kind and sincere tone, and when a nurse brings her lunch in the hospital, she says "thank you" with the sweetest smile. :)
Exactly. I saw this movie in my 20s. Back then I thought her friends were justified. I feel like maturing is realizing Andy’s friends and boyfriend were actually toxic as hell.
Nate, the true villain of "The Devil Wears Prada". I knew there was a reason I liked you two. Nate is the absolute worst and doesn't deserve Andy. I will die on this hill.
Her female friend as well is awful. She accepts a 2k purse and then immediately takes Andie's phone and looks insulted when she's called an A-hole. Then complained later that she doesn't understand who Andie is growing into
True tale: Both Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep attended Vassar College. Anne attended but did not graduate from Vassar. Instead she transferred to NYU to do a program better suited for her interests. Meryl, on the other hand, did graduate and was in my class (1971) as well as in my dormitory for the first two years. I think that she spent junior year at Williams College (common for juniors at VC then to spend a semester or two on exchange elsewhere). I saw her at our 25th Reunion in 1996 and had a brief chat with her. Our class is very proud.
1.) I had barely started the video and I knew we were on the same page when Wes's reaction to seeing Nate for the first time was, "Boo." Nate (and the friends) are the true villains of this movie. 2.) Fun Fact- the cerulean blue scene was written after Meryl Streep asked for a scene that showed that Miranda was really good at her job and should be taken seriously- and not just viewed as an evil boss. 3.) Fun Fact Part 2- Gisele Bundchen only agreed to be in this movie if her character was NOT a model. 4.) Possibly unpopular opinion because this movie isn't as "serious" as some of her other movies, but I think this is Emily Blunt's best role. She has given so many amazing performances, but there is just something so incredible in what she created here.
The Andy make-over scene is one of my favorite movie moments ever. And Emily has the best subtle character arc. I just love how she’s supposed to come off as an evil character, but as the years ago by, you realize she really got the shortest end of the stick not getting to go to Paris when she wanted to go way more than Andy. And in contrast, Andy is portrayed to be the helpless faun in a world of selfish people, but in the end she became just as selfish as the very people she accused of being selfish. Like even knowing how much Emily wanted to go to Paris, Andy still made the decision to throw Emily under the bus because “she had no choice”. Like no girl, you did. You always had a choice.
I like to think the ending hinted verrrry subtly that Nate might be closer to on the outs than we thought. How? With the clothes Andy is wearing. No, she's not wearing designer clothes anymore, but she's not wearing her old clothes either. Because THAT'S the real impression the job left on her: finally understanding the importance in putting some effort into your appearance, even if it's only for yourself.
Couple of fun facts - Miranda Priestly was based off of Anna Wintour. The scene were Emily says, "i'[m hearing this but I want to hear this" (accompanied by the hand-talking gesture) was taken from a parent saying this to her child and Emily Blunt loved it and used it in the movie. =D
It seems that Emily was always tough on Andy, but in fact, what she did was guiding and helping, ensuring that Andy could grow and stay, which also ensured that the Paris dream could truly come true for herself.
Here's how good Streep is in this film: before they started filming, she told Hathaway she was perfect for the role, and that it would be the nicest thing she'd ever say to her. She stayed in character on and off set for most of their time filming.
The pursing of the lips is WHY she moved up the preview! She KNEW it was going to be a catastrophe. We see her looking right at it in the sketch book right when Andy walks in.
If a someone plainly tells you her “No,” and their judgement is impaired, that’s your cue to pause and gather more information, at the very least, before proceeding.
This probably won't surprise you: most of the designer clothes seen in the film are real. It's one of the most expensively costumed movies ever made. The designers mentioned in this movie all donated pieces for them to use.
Emily is delusional for thinking that Andy would refuse to go to Paris and possibly get fired, they're just coworkers at the end of the day. It's not like Andy backstabbed her. Andy's boyfriend is immature, she needs the job and there's nothing wrong with being ambitious. That scene when they take her phone and clown her shows how they feel about her. Miranda is awful, but sometimes you gotta endure people like that, but only until you move up. She denied Nigel that opportunity because she's probably planning for him to take over after her.
You know why the assistants all end up the same way? Because they all treat the job the same way. Like it's just a stepping stone towards the career they actually want. So she takes a chance with Andi because she thought she'd be the one to be okay with the job. And lo and behold, she's treating it the same as everyone else. Just there to do the job, not trying to suck up to her because of her reputation.
i work in fashion- i worked at a small brand waaay back, and that old boss would bark commands at me and i'm like "b*tch you're no Miranda!" lol. Love your vids! Happy Pride month! 💖💖🏳🌈
OMG, it's like Christmas, I am so thrilled you guys are reacting to this! (HAPPY SIGH) And I am so glad you guys immediately recognize what trashy hypocrites Andie's boyfriend and friends are. Ugh. Hate them. First off, Andie made a DEAL with her BF and people in her life that she would stick it out at Runway for a year because of the benefits to her career, no matter how hard it was. Instead, they didn't support her at all and immediately judged her in hilariously hypocritical ways. Her BF is a CHEF in NEW YORK. Why is he HOME all the time? Why is he constantly passive-aggressively judging her clothes then saying she sold her soul for shoes? There is NOTHING wrong with Andie awakening to a love of fashion as an art form and as a form of self-expression. I hate him so much. And hate her friends even more. How many times do you think Andie gave them freebies like that? I used to be a magazine editor and I can tell you she did it DOZENS of times. Thousands of dollars worth given her position at Runway. And they mock her and try to get her FIRED. Ugh. Hate her friends. Hate her BF. Love Andie. And while Miranda and Emily are not always good people, and I do get tired of all the body-shaming -- they are true to themselves. They never lie to themselves or to Andie. Meanwhile, I just want Nigel to be my best friend. Hugs -- you guys are the best. AND HAPPY PRIDE!
Just in case someone else hasn't commented with the answer....yes, all the exterior shots showing NYC were filmed on location in Manhattan. And they're all the real places they appear to be in the movie - except the (former) McGraw-Hill building on Sixth Ave. That was re-named the Elias-Clarke building....using CGI I assume. (The building is now known by its address only since ownership has changed.)
Just to be clear (and simultaneously confusing :) the OTHER McGraw-Hill building - the green skyscraper on W 42nd St near the Port Authority - is still called the McGraw-Hill building.
Even today i would DIE for Andys job . Sure, its a lot of hard work and putting your personal life to the side, but it comes with so much growth in a very very competitive field, awesome oportunities and it pretty much opens the door for jobs one would never get in the traditional way. She was VERY lucky and didnt see it
For most of the scenes in the office, Emily can be seen running around, because she thought it would be true to her character to always be moving around doing something.
For me personally, this movie is the Citizen Kane for the gays. It is to be spoken with reverence. A masterpiece and a revolution. Ugly Betty and Confessions of a Shopaholic tried to copy it, but TDWP is still the best.
IMO the only reason some people say Meryl is too "technical" is because she's SO good that the difference in her onscreen persona from one character to the next is so stark. That noticeable difference is perceived as being "overly technical" by some. But if you look at her performances as if you're seeing her on screen for the first time, you'd likely say to yourself, "Wow, that woman is a great actress - she really made me FEEL the inner life of her character." And you wouldn't notice any "technical stuff" - i.e. specific mannerisms, accent, vocal cadence, etc - because you'd think it was mostly just how she is in real life. So it might be said that Meryl Streep is sometimes too good.....for her own good.🙂
Miranda and Andy did the same thing; they both saved their jobs. And I’ll die on this hill: The real villains were Andy’s friends and her garbage boyfriend. 😂🏳️🌈
When Nigel barges in and interrupts Andy's interview - after he says his line - I always imagine Gwyneth Paltrow wearing a feathered headdress standing in the middle of an empty stage in Vegas.
Even though Emily got the karma coming to her, I did feel bad for her because Emily actually WANTED and dreamed of going to Paris, it was more than an occupation and it was her life, while Andy was just doing this because it is a very useful job to egt to another job she would actually want.
The real villain of the story is her boyfriend 💯 She only needed a year and he hated her boss, how she dressed & grew as a person. Her friends are kinda ehh too, not very supportive & judgmental
I agree, Andy was not getting any luck getting a job as a writer for a long time and she only needed 1-2 years in this role to get a break. He should have been more supportive!
People forget Andy and her friends are early, 20-year-olds during this time. Andy did not research the job she applied for. Her friends and boyfriend did not support her despite the fact that if she stuck it out for 12 months, almost any job would open up for her. Emily and everyone else at runway had multiple opportunities to sabotage Andy but didn't, and I think that says a lot.
I know people feel really strongly about certain characters in this movie, but the truth is, no one is completely innocent and no one is entirely a villain. And I think that's the point.
Hey! I share a bday with Anne Hathaway and I just learned that I share a bday with you too!! Nov 12 baby!!!!🎉🎉🎉 Party on From one Scorpio to another!!!😊
Friend groups that are fun and sarcastic are amazing! Like picking on the clothes she wore in the beginning, just a fun way to be snarky. Love you both! But my friend group plays like this. And we have been friends for 30 years +💙 and thank you about the JK Rowling comment! I am appalled by her! How dare she!
We have both been watching AHS live every year since it started! And you are very right, as our cat is literally named Lana Winters lol. Wish we could watch Asylum again for the first time, it’s a masterpiece 😭
I thought I was the only one who ever noticed this :D
I love this! Great detail.
Andy's friend was quick to take that bag but acts like she's a moral saint when she saw her talking to blonde guy
Exactly. I saw this movie in my 20s. Back then I thought her friends were justified. I feel like maturing is realizing Andy’s friends and boyfriend were actually toxic as hell.
@@allieren You need more maturing, Andy was a bad girlfiend and friend too....
Nate, the true villain of "The Devil Wears Prada". I knew there was a reason I liked you two. Nate is the absolute worst and doesn't deserve Andy. I will die on this hill.
The actor that plays him agrees with you
Her female friend as well is awful. She accepts a 2k purse and then immediately takes Andie's phone and looks insulted when she's called an A-hole. Then complained later that she doesn't understand who Andie is growing into
I feel like the friends in general are the real villains
Me realizing Nate is the true villain of this story 😮 The unsupportive gaslighter! Andy doesn’t need either of them!
I'm so glad someone sees it!!! I've never understood why ppl liked him
True tale: Both Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep attended Vassar College. Anne attended but did not graduate from Vassar. Instead she transferred to NYU to do a program better suited for her interests. What is Vassar Collège ?
"Let's study her coffee acting" I know exactly what you mean by that 🤣
It's kind of iconic that you also have a blue sweater on when Miranda says you pick out that lumpy blue sweater! lol
He wore it as an homage!!
my comfort movie
The sound of Miranda's razr closing is music to my ears. Can we bring back dramatically closing a flip phone to end a call
“Is that the”
“The Devil Wears Prada as the first Petty Pumpkins pride month video? Yeah, it is.”
HAPPY PRIDE!!!!!!!! 🏳️🌈🏳️🌈
To prep for the role, Anne Hathaway worked as an assistant at an auction house for a week.
The original line was "Everybody wants to be me." But Merryl thought it was too self centered.
12:44 It’s the clutching of the invisible pears when Miranda called out that lumpy blue sweater for me 😂😂😂
1.) I had barely started the video and I knew we were on the same page when Wes's reaction to seeing Nate for the first time was, "Boo." Nate (and the friends) are the true villains of this movie.
2.) Fun Fact- the cerulean blue scene was written after Meryl Streep asked for a scene that showed that Miranda was really good at her job and should be taken seriously- and not just viewed as an evil boss.

4.) Possibly unpopular opinion because this movie isn't as "serious" as some of her other movies, but I think this is Emily Blunt's best role. She has given so many amazing performances, but there is just something so incredible in what she created here.
I heard John Krasinski say in an interview that it was Emily’s role in this movie that made him attracted to her and he hadn’t even met her yet.
Happy Pride!!!!! Can't wait to celebrate with y'all with one of the most iconic films ever made! 🏳🌈😋
"not even the lovely bones could ruin him" LOLLL I agree though, i love him
I like to think the ending hinted verrrry subtly that Nate might be closer to on the outs than we thought.
How? With the clothes Andy is wearing. No, she's not wearing designer clothes anymore, but she's not wearing her old clothes either.

Here's how good Streep is in this film: before they started filming, she told Hathaway she was perfect for the role, and that it would be the nicest thing she'd ever say to her. She stayed in character on and off set for most of their time filming.
At the end of the movie, Emily is wearing a variation of the outfit Miranda put together.
Merryl donated her characters entire wardrobe to charity.
The direction Nigel was given for his reaction: pretend like he was nominated for an Oscar, and someone else's name got called.
You two should watch Brokeback Mountain for pride month *and* Anne Hathaway🥰
YES YES YES
When Miranda talks to Andi about Paris, Andis Chanel necklace has Paris charms on it
Omg I didn’t realize in the belt scene the actress holding the belts is in once upon a time. Yassss
Zelena, one of my favorite characters in that show.
Miranda's movie role was originally written for Glen Close, but she turned it down, cause she didn't want to be typecast.
I can totally see her in this role! So clearly!!!
Meryl Streep is spectacular as Miranda but I have no doubt Glen Close would have been too!
This probably won't surprise you: most of the designer clothes seen in the film are real. It's one of the most expensively costumed movies ever made.
The designers mentioned in this movie all donated pieces for them to use.
The woman that wrote the film also co created Crazy Ex Girlfriend.
And the first draft of the screenplay of Cruella.
Emily is delusional for thinking that Andy would refuse to go to Paris and possibly get fired, they're just coworkers at the end of the day. It's not like Andy backstabbed her. The prop HP book was auctioned for 586 bucks, and the proceeds went to the charity Dress for Success.
Oh my. You two are going to have so much fun with this movie.
OMG, it's like Christmas, I am so thrilled you guys are reacting to this! (HAPPY SIGH) And I am so glad you guys immediately recognize what trashy hypocrites Andie's boyfriend and friends are. Ugh. Omgggg Yass Anne Hathaway and Meryl Streep!! Two queens on the screen! Thank you for reacting ❤❤ happy pride month queens
Hated the end, hated the boyfriend and friends. But it’s a 20 years old movie what can we do.
Just in case someone else hasn't commented with the answer....yes, all the exterior shots showing NYC were filmed on location in Manhattan. 29:50 Cheese cubes, MOM? You still live with your mom? How charming!
Girl he's talking about when he used to live with his mom as a teenager
I always thought this was like a female version of Devil’s Advocate before I watched it in High School 😅
Emily's friend is a real Brazilian fashion model. Her one stipulation for being in the movie was that she did not want to be a model.
Oh you KNOW you need to react to both Legally Blonde movies. Loved the reaction, this is such a classic (despite the fatphobia)
Hermes is Miranda's trademark. She's always wearing a white Hermes scarf somewhere on her person.
In case you're wondering, Emily is wearing the brand Vivienne Westwood
I love people that can actually recognize brands people are wearing! I don’t have it.
Miranda is the reason I support women’s rights AND women’s wrongs.
Ever since this movie came out, I have been trying to find those sunglasses Miranda wore.

happy pride 🏳🌈 can't wait to see what other iconic movies you have lined up for us this month! this was the perfect start
HAPPY PRIDE MONTH ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
When Nigel barges in and interrupts Andy's interview - after he says his line - I always imagine Gwyneth Paltrow wearing a feathered headdress standing in the middle of an empty stage in Vegas.
I forgot how annoying the “friends” were in this movie
Even though Emily got the karma coming to her, I did feel bad for her because Emily actually WANTED and dreamed of going to Paris, it was more than an occupation and it was her life, while Andy was just doing this because it is a very useful job to egt to another job she would actually want.

In real life, Anne Hathaway and Emily Blunt are best friends.
Such a great movie to kick off Pride. Also, every year I kick June off with this little gay Scream adjacent movie called Hellbent. Happy Pride boys 🌈
Gosh Anne Hathaway was my idol when I was a kid esp her being in Ella enchanted that really cemented my love ❤
Happy Pride!!!! 🏳️🌈

Y’all have to react to “Death becomes her” iconic 🔥
Friend groups that are fun and sarcastic are amazing! Like picking on the clothes she wore in the beginning, just a fun way to be snarky. Love you both! But my friend group plays like this. And we have been friends for 30 years +💙 and thank you about the JK Rowling comment! I am appalled by her! How dare she!
I wish I could see you react to Jessica Lange and Sarah Paulson in AHS: Asylum. I feel that you would adore their characters.
We have both been watching AHS live every year since it started! And you are very right, as our cat is literally named Lana Winters lol. Wish we could watch Asylum again for the first time, it’s a masterpiece 😭
TBH I still don't understand what happened with the James Holt thing. I don't know anything about business hahah
Which part ?
10 hours
😍😍😍
Jk Rowling is amazing. ❤
I love you both,
