A favorite drive on mine. There's a pull out just south of Bruceport where the view, on a sunny day, is spectacular. 19:40, that's a beautiful old school house. WSP patrols this stretch of 101 very well, and there's often a patrol car stationed here watching for speeders.
About 5 years ago, I was driving into South Bend just east of where you were talking about, and someone crossed the centerline and made an illegal pass around me. (it was solid double yellow, so you weren't supposed to pass there) I was happy to see that just a half mile up the road, he was pulled over by a cop!!!!
The views of the mouth of the Columbia River are so cool to see as you cross the bridge. It's one bridge over troubled water to me. I know you have a previous video of that same drive across the bridge and you included Billboard's #1 pop single of 1970, "Bridge Over Troubled Water" by Simon and Garfunkel as the only song of the soundtrack of that previous video.
been there so many times. I love being on the road. it's a good therapy. the PNW is simply amazing. I live there and I don't see myself living elsewhere in the country.
Welcome to US 101 route in Washington State! Can't wait for the rest of the drive in the state- esp the final part of it which becomes a freeway for the 1st time since being in CA.
33:52 I'm a few years younger than your grandpa, but I think of my two grandsons and hope I can have the same relationship with them as you have with your grandpa. There are places I'd love to take them and show them; they're not quite old enough to help with the driving yet but hopefully I can put a few trips like this together with my grandsons. Treasure that relationship; there's not many around who do like you have.
Thanks for the drive. U.S. 101 in Washington has always been a great mystery. Isn't Aberdeen the cutoff/shortcut to Olympia? The rest of 101 is only for those who really want to go that way. Can't wait to see it.
14:00 Geography (geology) at that point has _everything_ to do with why US-101 has to wind around so much in that location. Much of the hills on the north bank of the Columbia River are basalt lava flows that poured out from eastern Washington 16 million years ago -- along with a few near-trench magmas -- and piled up along the banks of the river. It is very rugged and topographically difficult to engineer a highway to cut _across_ that pile of basalt, so instead they went _around_ it.

My dad and I did that drive in the other direction this summer and last. So I can definitely appreciate the value in doing this with someone you love!
Another excellent video. Watching your videos is like going on vacation. Bravo 👏🏻👨🏼🚒
Thank you!

Thank you James!
I’ve driven 101 in Washington from Aberdeen around the Olympic Peninsula to Olympia. Gorgeous scenery in this one. Thanks for the Nirvana trivia!

It is shorter to take US-12 from Aberdeen to I-5 then north to Olympia yes.
i actually did this trip last saturday, but at the end of the day, headed east to hit I5 South and head home to Portland.
It is a place I will likely never get to and is pleasant to see. Thanks.
Thanks for watching!

Interesting to think that such a major road link (the Astoria Bridge) is newer than my parents.
Crazy to think!
Is that the former toll booth at 2:13 in the video?
A more scenic route (and shorter) is turning right from the Astoria bridge,
Yeah, this video was more focused on US-101 though.
Spokane house was established in 1810
RUclips obviously know where my marriage started, began and ended in. wtf bruh 😂
Daniel Bryan baby
roundabout.
Short circuit bridge.
Okay! It's a scenic drive but not at Sonic speed 😮. Oregon native. ["'Vicarious Traveler'" Copyright 3/12/80]
