Astoria has to be one of the most beautiful highlights of the Oregon Coast. One, is the position of where it's located as a major shiippng destination right at the top of the coast before going into Washington That bridge over the Columbia is iconic, I haven't seen any other like it.! You really showed Astoria in the most accurate way, capturing it's true essence with some fantastic footage. it looks like some of which is from your side cams.. Great descriptions and museum features...I can"t wait to see the rest of the summer series.
Your travel through Oregon is another for the record books. That blimp hanger in last week’s video immense. It reminded me of a military base I was one which had a large building similar but it would have fit inside the building you listed. Yes, Astoria has a lot to offer with both museums and the history that was persevered. Enjoy your trip into Washington State. I have friends who live in that state up north from where you will be visiting. Equal bridge height is The Chesapeake Bay Bridge. That bridge used to give me the willies going across.
Great vlog❤️ always love the museums ❤️ great scenery ❤️ Astoria is a cool place 😎 I remember when they use to pump gas at every station. I had not been use to that since I was a kid 😁 hope you have a Happy Halloween 🎃 👻
The blue boat backing into the dock is Triumph II, a launch service vessel. They take inspectors out to the ships at anchor in the river, once successfully inspected they can proceed up river if a pier space is available
I have crossed the bar many times and have had some real hair raising times. I never told my wife about the adventures then a Portland news cast started with a picture of the bar and stated the Graveyard of the Pacific. She freaked a little. Everytime we went out we saw a Coast Guard rescue. Thanks for the trip and memories.
My husband was Navy and served 1959-1960 in Astoria. I’m wondering at the area of the museum is where the base was. I’m really enjoying your time in Astoria.
Russ, I'm not a fan of canned salmon either. On the other hand, I love smoked salmon--I got some in Astoria from Josephson's Smokehouse and it was delicious 🙂So, now you're headed east along the Columbia River...it should be a lot of fun!
Boy this video tugged on my ❤. I've been to Astoria once & went to that museum with my mom & sister. Its sad to look @ it now & think last time i was there, my mom was alive. Sigh! 😢
I once forgot Oregon had attendants coming into Medford after just coming down off siskiyou pass, I touched the forbidden gas handle and boy did the attendant let me have it. "You ain't in California anymore", he barked. It startled me big time. I still thought Oregon's policy was kind of cool but even many locals hated it. I once worked as a gas station attendant as a teenager but never barked at anyone, lol. The Astoria-megler bridge is one of the most beautiful bridges anywhere in our opinion. Unlike cali and other states where bridge tolls will go into perpetuity and continue raising rates, the Astoria bridge was paid off early and became free in 93. Good on Oregon. Cheers. 👍
I lived in Astoria some of those abandoned piers were the foundations for Bumblebee Tuna before it burned down. And the Main Road is actually backfill the river used to reach the edges of the hill before Astoria boomed. There's a lot of history in that town YT would probably delete if I mentioned it here.
We must have just missed you...we were there about the same time meeting up with my sister and BL who were taking a cruise and debarked at the museum pier. They live in Minnesota.
Astoria Oregon Kind of just a Littls bit reminds me of Duluth Minnesota I live in Minnesota and visit Duluth I really want too visit Astoria though it is Beautiful. And goonies town haha.
i hate watching museums , i just want you to keep on trucking and show us beauty of america natural beauty . oregon is so beautiful .it does nt need artificial beauty such as museums .
When that big quake happens & that huge tsunami comes...God be with all those people! I rather live in AZ 🏜 anyday than Central Oregon 🤧🥶❄️⛈️. Getting older & painful bones don't like the fall & long winters. Funny i didnt like the bridge either cuz I'm afraid of heights. Luv the Redwoods, its like another world those huge trees
Oregan is supposed to be really beautiful , the nature , the geography , next year God willing you should start in new Mexico, you say always that new Mexico is one of your favourite , start at the border, see how far you get up to north east , upstate new York , new Hampshire , Vermont , all new England , could be there God willing for the fall colours in Vermont and new England , be beautiful ,
Astoria will be forever associated in my mind with the old film 'Kindergarten Cop"
Don't forget Goonies!

Strange to see the Swedish flag in Astoria. 😅
What traffic?
I gotta say, I don't like the map popping up and blocking the view. I wish it was smaller and off to the side a bit. Love the museum visits
At 15:54 you can see the Goonies House and the school from Kindergarten Cop!
The Nordic Park is a tribute to the Nordic people who migrated to, settled and built Astoria.

The movie Kindergarten Cop was filmed there.

Not impressed with this area of Oregon. Pretty rundown. Glad you saved us the trip.
