my father worked on voodoo during these years :D i graduated hs in 02/03 and remember the year before this :) Dago Red were very close to us with Hovey Machine :) thank you for uploading, my dad passed in 2008 aug 8th and as an only child this was one of the coolest things we did together!!! I feel very special to work reno pit races for multiple years and y2k was one to remember LUL looking forward to next video :D
I got to see this airplane in person when it landed at the old St.George airport. Dad let us see it even though we had to be places, because as he said "they're never gonna see something like this again" I've remembered this airplane ever since.
I was there in 1982 when Dago made her debut and blew away the rest of the field. The Budweiser Super Corsair was there too. Then Strega the next year, Tsunami didn't come along until later in the decade. A real shame to think none of them exist anymore except for The "Witch". Dago was disassembled and is stored in pieces at this time AFAIK and the others lost in crashes.
I will be amazed if the races take well in New Mexico. I know I won't be there. Too far and too little out there. Reno survived all these years due to cheap hotels and gambling casinos. All the other that tried (Mojave, Phoenix, etc) failed. And with the best planes going away due to age, increasing value and cost of maintaining them, the end for unlimited racing was coming anyway.
I did a tail number look up on Dago Red and it came back to the address of what looked like a scrap yard on google maps in a town named Kerman Ca, which is only about 20 miles from where I live. I have been thinking about taking a drive out there to see if they have any insight on the plane. I hope that, that great plane has not been scrapped.
Aaron Morita No, she got mixed up in a divorce mess and ended up being taken by the bank, and after that whole mess, one of her former crew members bought her (or what’s left of her) and is slowly rebuilding.

When I was a kid my dad had an RC Dago Red made by EZ and it was that airplane that started my obsession with aviation. Amazing video!
