Always check the remants sections as well, there is usually some fur there! And when it comes to cutting, using an exacto or box knife to cut just the backing is also a great trick.

You can use a small ponytail holder sewn on to bottom of Pom Pom instead of yarn. The elastic ponytail holder stretches over the button and makes it easy to remove Pom Pom later.
I bought some pom-poms with loops and couldn't figure out how I was supposed to use them. I have more with snaps so could figure that out. Thank you with the suggestion of how to use the loops.
Wow! That is actually super easy and I love the detachable tip at the end!! I just ordered some pom poms off Wish but this looks like a great option if they don't turn out to be what I thought.
Great tutorial. I have done this, I suggest using strong upholstery type thread so when you pull it to cinch it up it does not break.

This is so helpful! A lot of people don't realize that the "faux fur" poms imported from China have often been found to actually be real fur from racoons and other animals. Making your own is a great way to ensure that it actually is faux fur. Will definitely be using in my own knitting!

If you tied your pom pom on behind the button, then it's not very easy to detach for washing. Instead, thread the needle THROUGH the button using opposite holes on the button. Then tie a tight bow. That way all you have to do is untie the bow and pull the pom pom off for washing of the hat.

I always take them off. The faux fur can get gross after washing.
