Nice, good info, understandably presented. Been making knives for going on three decades, and when i started there was a major lack of intro info for beginners. Good to see a patient, well paced video to walk people through
Yes i know. Been wanting to get into knife making since i was a kid. but it wasn't until recently there was enough information to help me feel comfortable. Even now theres not a lot for absolute beginners like me. Thanks for the comment my friend 🙂
I am a 73 year old USMC, RVN Veteran and I want to start making knives. I subbed to you a few weeks ago and really enjoy how you succinctly describe the process and let me know when you make a mistake ~!~ I am gathering my equipment and tools and plan on making a DIY 2X72 belt sander. I don't plan on selling knives, I just want to make them for the fun of it. Thanks so much for your willingness to share your expertise.
Thank you for your service my friend!🙏 good luck with the grinder build. They are definitely worth it! Thanks for taking the time to watch my videos and for the sub. It's always appreciated!
G-flex is the best epoxy I've ever used. I have tons of experience with fiberglass repair among other various repairs and it is the toughest epoxy on the market in my opinion. You could glue a tractor to a ceiling with that stuff. Expensive but worth it.
I’ve been watching DIY knife making videos for a couple of years now. Slow to take the plunge because of the cost and having limited space to dedicate to the work. But your videos have cinched it for me. Thanks for the inspiration.
Alex. Thank you. I have spent a ton of cash trying to find a good hunting/camp knife. I came to the realization that I just needed to make my own. Watched a few “forged in fire” episodes. Decided it would cost a second Mortage. Decided I would find an affordable way. Found your channel and now I’m pretty sure I can do this. Anyways the wife told me not to burn down the house. But I just wanted to say thank you.
Haha yeah it can get expensive! It doesn’t have to be though. And angle grinder is cheap and will speed things along. Other then that files are all you need....and some patience 😀
It's fun to watch you increase your knowledge and branch out to more complicated areas, can't wait to see your video on getting a hamon on your blade. Great job
Hopefully ill be upgrading my tools here soon and can start doing more involved/ larger projects. Finding the time to do videos as of late is tough though. I may miss a couple uploads this summer but when I get back into making videos there will definitely be a lot of new stuff in the works😀 Thanks for watching and the comment!
I really liked the new knife that was meant to look old. Good useful knife. I always liked drop points for gutting and skinning and its hefty enough for a lot of uses. Might I suggest bois d'arc, desert iron wood, or mesquite for handle scales. They're hard enough to take a polish. Also, J.B. weld for glue. It will bond anything, will stand extreme heat and isn't bothered much by moisture.
Old vid. It is interesting to me that of all the knifemaking/bushcraft channels I've perused, This style of knife keeps popping up. It resembles the Camillus Becker Campanion. It also resembles the Wilkinson Type D survival knife & the MOD survival knife. Nice work!
This reminds me of the time my grandmother purchased a shelf thinking it was an antique, and the makers facebook information was on a sticker on the bottom. it is interesting how some people (myself included) often try to make objects look older than they are.
Nice job. That’s exactly the type of knife I enjoy making. The only thing I didn’t care for was the look of the flat grind being eaten out by the vinegar. The shape of the knife and the scales were awesome!!! I’ll be watching this video several more times. Thanks
Cutting out the paper template with a pocket knife. Priceless. Us mortal craftsmen go to the box of razor blades. And the end tests are still impressive. How you beat on all your time and effort, makes me sweat and it not even my "time or effort". :) Maybe splitting a bullet with one of your blades is in the future? I bet .22 plinkster would help! Thanks again for the craftsmen lesson.
Haha I try not to think about how much time and effort go into these when using them. 😰 But they are made to be used otherwise what’s the point lol. Bullet splitting would be cool but not sure how I’d record it🤔 Thanks for the comment my friend 😀
You can make knives out of old lawn mower blades. I knew of a man who made knives for New PBR riders. He used old lawn mower blades. Not sure how many PBR riders he did it for but every time they stopped in town he made sure they each got one of his handmade knives. Very well built too. Was gonna go learn the trade at his shop but he passed away before i got a chance.
Great content love your channel, ive just begun knifemaking and I attribute it largely to finding your videos which made me realize you can make great knives with minimal equipment. So thank you
Once again great job looks terrific .As you know vinegar is a power full agent on steel ,even cleaning a old knife that I found in the mountains all rusted up ,took the handle of laid it in some vinegar and just watched it on and of for about an hour mazing watching the rust to float of some settled to the bottom of the dish while some just floated away . Needs to be watched though it just never stops eating away .Happy Trails
For sure. Ive used vinegar on old rusted axes and its worked very well. I was surprised it ate into the steel the way it did though. Although thats exactly what I wanted so no harm done😀
It sure feels like that was longer than 4 years ago!!! Anyways I love watching these older videos to note the progress. Well the algorithms actually suggested this one. Maybe AI wants me to pick back up knife making. I can just now get back to my belt grinder. It’s been buried with crap in my shop
I’m really impressed with you explaining what you do and why you do it. I’m starting to get into knife making myself and getting a lot of good content and ideas from you. Thank you for keeping your projects simplified in instructions and good luck on future endeavors. P. S. I really enjoy your channel!
Hi Alex. I watch as many of your videos as time permits and always come away with the same thought: you make me sick.... not in a bad way, just that everything you teach/demonstrate adds something to my list of things I’d like to do. Sadly I lack the time and probably your level of skill that’s obvious on you vids. Oh well, I guess I’ll have to wait until I retire - or quit my job to do enjoyable projects! Keep up the excellent work & record as much as possible. The things you teach are outstanding!!
Haha. I know what you mean. I watch a lot of other channels and think the same about their projects as well. Thanks for the comment and thanks for taking thee time to watch. Its always appreciated!
Great video. I am a machinist, I have two 6 inch calipers, one for measuring and one for scribing. The scribing caliper is beat up and I don't trust it to measure parts anymore.
it's crazy what the vinegar did to that blade and I really like your epoxy mixing plate..three strips of duct tape. I usually use aluminum foil but I think I like your ability to make use out the things around you..lots of fun to watch.
Nice work, I usually eyeball things also.ive only made 1 knife so far I'm still working on getting my hands on a belt grinder and a few other things. But I will be making knives soon. Thanks
Thanks for the knife idea, I have the steel but don't know what design to make. I make a knife from scrap steel anyway, at least I know that it's carbon steel. Good job on putting an old look on the knife.👍👍👍
Thanks my friend! I’ll be slowing down on the videos this summ as I’m super busy. Once things calm down though I’ll be back and hopefully better then ever😀 Again thanks for the kind words!
Good vid. As you have wooden floorboards why not drill a few holes (metal or pvc pipe lined or not) so you can drop in a temporary stopper-peg or two to prevent your belt sanders, jig-saws or whatever from wandering around while you work?... love your vids dude.
Another awesome knife. You are getting better all the time. There is no substitution for experience. I love the patina and aged look. Keep up the great projects. I can't wait to see what's next! Have a great week!👍
You did a great job. Keep up the good work, and yeah I seriously doubt anyone is going to get an exact 50/50 ratio on the epoxy. And definitely can’t tell through a little video.
If you want an old looking knife, Id suggest using oak wood for the handle, aside from just being asolid quality wood, in my experience it tends to turn to a kind of darker grey color pretty quickly which really helps with the aged, worn look.
Badass talent. Building a forge as we "speak" myself. Always wanted to do this, now it is time to shine baby. Watched a few of your videos and I like what you do man. Awesome work
I’m glad you actually tested the blade. Too many smiths just show the making to finished process without proving performance. Well done.
I use small rare-earth magnets to hold the pattern on the steel before tracing with a Sharpie. You might give it a try.
big brain moves
Bad news Bears

I'd keep the belt grinder & repair it. Once fixed, sell it to someone just starting out. Recycling & paying it forward all in one fell swoop..
Xxxxxxxxxx
I have a strong appreciation for high saber grind on knives, this is a beautiful knife.
G-flex is the best epoxy I've ever used. I have tons of experience with fiberglass repair among other various repairs and it is the toughest epoxy on the market in my opinion. You could glue a tractor to a ceiling with that stuff. Expensive but worth it.
This is my favorite knife you've made. Looking forward to more like this. Thanks so much!
Finished my knife and have been trying to figure out how to finish the handle. Out comes the torch! Thanks
I’ve been watching DIY knife making videos for a couple of years now. Slow to take the plunge because of the cost and having limited space to dedicate to the work. But your videos have cinched it for me. Thanks for the inspiration.
thanke you for makeing them. its allways a pleasure to see or re see , soft human flesh, molding hard iron

So I’ve made a few now with the forge you show how to make doing it using your tips. Just want to say thank you.
Drinking game- drink every time he says “belt”
...hiccup...
Nelson Diaz burp
if you do the math in all videos together he either says knife or belt the most.
well than we would be off our ass every time we went on RUclips
Congrats. We all have alcohol poisoning
Watching this makes the prices of knives seem much more reasonable. Thanks.
That's the knife for the outdoorman.I like it.
The burnt handle fits the Finish perfectly nice nice great job

Like the quench lines on your blade nice build
You definitely make this look so easy.
haha, I try, but its definitely NOT easy for me😀

Good job. similar to a knife I made 20 plus years ago.
Great content love your channel, ive just begun knifemaking and I attribute it largely to finding your videos which made me realize you can make great knives with minimal equipment. So thank you

Superb Alex 👍👍👍👍.love from India 🇮🇳
Very nice knife excellent craftsmanship! Your right the more you do certain step's the better you get!

The best explanation for knife making. Great video
Thanks for watching! I really appreciate it!
Nice job Alex, my grandson and I are about to start making knives so this helps
I like that you use bar stock metal to make this knife. This looks a lot easer than pounding on molten metal to for hours.
Great effort. I'm in the process of making one. if it turns our half as good i'll be happy.
That knife came out Beautifull Alex
Thanks for the education, now I'm going to make my 3rd knife. I really learned a lot.
Same
Not alot of stupid music or shenanigans great build very informative. You just got a new subscriber 👍👍👍
Awesome video. Beginning to end. Good job!
Thank you for this video and thank you for not being verbose! Very helpful. Subscribed.
Great video and finished knife.

That was a pretty cool knife you build right there. Thinking about getting into it myself. Thanks for the video

Thanks for the inspiration. That is a beautiful knife. I appreciate you taking the time to show it to us...
you made it seem so easy in this video!
great build and video to match. your channel has been building popularity for a good reason
Thanks my friend 👊
Awesome job! I really like the old worn beat up, marked up look of the blade!
Looks awesome, I’d be proud to own that.
it's crazy what the vinegar did to that blade and I really like your epoxy mixing plate..three strips of duct tape. I usually use aluminum foil but I think I like your ability to make use out the things around you..lots of fun to watch.
What a great looking knife. Good video!

Very nice video and very nice knife, I need to get back to knife making.
You really are excellent at this! Beautiful work and very well explained! 👍👍👍
Superb craftsmanship... kudos.
Thank you! And thanks for watching, I really appreciate it!
Cheers
That came out great! Kinda looks like an old knife that was restored! I like it!
Thanks! yeah it does, thats exactly what I wanted so I guess it worked out😀 Thanks for watching my friend!
OUTDOORS55 ya gotta love it when a plan comes together!
I did that same vinegar bath on an old axe head and it had very similar striation/scratches on the face of the axe head. Very nice knife
Thanks! That was great!!
Thanks for the knife idea, I have the steel but don't know what design to make. I make a knife from scrap steel anyway, at least I know that it's carbon steel. Good job on putting an old look on the knife.👍👍👍
Im terrible with designs. I try to design in a manner that matches my tools so theres not a lot of hand filing/ sanding to do😂 Thanks my friend!
Fantastic work keep it up, and smashing out the videos , one of the best channels on you tube, down to earth and no BS 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks my friend! I’ll be slowing down on the videos this summ as I’m super busy. Once things calm down though I’ll be back and hopefully better then ever😀 Again thanks for the kind words!
Thank you for your instruction and videos. I very much appreciate them.
Nicely done young man, great video!!!
Thank you🙏
Great work sir.keep it going.
Thank you my friend 😀
Sweet knife great video the orange and hickory combo look awesome
Thanks! I agree it does look nice. Subtle, but nice 👍
Fantastic knife and a great look!!!!!!!!!!
I want to give this a try.
Nicely done. Thanks for sharing.
Good vid.

Great knife built. Scales and knife look great!
Thanks my friend! And thanks for stopping by👍
Nice form and perfect lenght. I like it!
Thanks my friend!
VERY NICE😀😁
Beautiful!
Thanks!
Great job!
bk2 shape! very nice blade sir!
Another awesome knife. You are getting better all the time. There is no substitution for experience. I love the patina and aged look. Keep up the great projects. I can't wait to see what's next! Have a great week!👍
Thanks my friend!
I love that knife my brother! Great video!!
Thanks my friend!
You did a great job.
Keep up the good work, and yeah I seriously doubt anyone is going to get an exact 50/50 ratio on the epoxy. And definitely can’t tell through a little video.
Very Nice! JAKE.
I really enjoy the commentary and basic hand tools are really relatable, please keep up the Fantastic work. 👏💎👍
Nice one, some good work done there.
Thanks my friend!👊
If you want an old looking knife, Id suggest using oak wood for the handle, aside from just being asolid quality wood, in my experience it tends to turn to a kind of darker grey color pretty quickly which really helps with the aged, worn look.
Awesome man. Really great work
Beautiful knife 👍👍
That is one Good looking blade! I really liked that sort of modified drop point you put on it.
Thanks!
Lots of good tips in this that I haven't heard in other videos. Thanks for that! Great video
Thanks my friend 👊
That was an awesome build, Good job. I enjoyed watching it! Thank you and God Bless...
Badass talent. Building a forge as we "speak" myself. Always wanted to do this, now it is time to shine baby. Watched a few of your videos and I like what you do man. Awesome work
I like all you vids. Very helpfully. In fact I just bought the turn box sharpener. Works Awsome. Thanks for your tutorials. Keep it up.
Badass knife....wow....nice
As always gr8 job amigo !!!
Thanks my friend!
Really well.done.
Beautiful
